BRIGHTEYED49's SparkPeople Blog BRIGHTEYED49's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community First Day of A New Job I'm so excited! My new job began today. I get free access to a fitness center! I will be working out all the time! Plus, I'm parking kind of far away, so I get a good amount of walking every day as well. And with all the structured time (and food being prohibited at my desk), I won't be mindlessly snacking. I think this will be a great change for my health, not to mention how great it is to have an income!

Best to all the Sparkers out there. Hope you're having an awesome day! Mon, 19 Mar 2012 20:00:57 EST Felt Like Blogging I feel like blogging, although I don't really have anything in particular to say. I suppose I can start by making some observations and posting my latest health/fitness endeavors.

Today was unseasonably warm. I'm worried this summer will be ridiculously hot. I love winter and I missed it this year (it was too warm to be considered winter!). My fiance and I are looking for a place to move into and I think I have a new appreciation for air conditioning as a requirement.

I ... Tue, 13 Mar 2012 18:13:34 EST Back Into That Bikini Challenge: Week Four Blog (February Accomplishments) As part of the "Back Into That Bikini Challenge" for team "Living Healthy in Our 20s," I'm adding a blog post summing up my accomplishments this February. I've accomplished a lot, though not everything I set out to accomplish. And that's how it should be, really. Aim for the stars and hit the moon, right? Better to try and fail and try again than never try at all.

My yoga/Pilates membership was for January only. So in February, I learned how to work out on my own without going to a... Tue, 28 Feb 2012 14:44:17 EST Back Into That Bikini Challenge: Week Three Blog (Goals Update) Well, I'm here to provide an update on the goals I set out in my previous goals blog on January 31st. So I haven't been doing too well! I haven't been purposefully performing each and every goal like I originally wanted to. Nevertheless, I think I may have - less purposefully - achieved some of them to some degree.

Goal 1: Cook completely nutritarian meal once per week.

I haven't been cooking at all. That isn't to say I haven't been EATING at least one completely nutrit... Mon, 20 Feb 2012 10:59:35 EST A Wellness Confessional: Intro & Chapter 1 Hi Sparkers! I've been thinking lately, about myself, my goals, my journey trying to live healthfully. I am so obsessed by the question of how to make myself do what is good for me that I've gone and gotten a master's degree searching for some behavioral/sociological/scientific basis for health behavior change. I'm still obsessed and hoping to get a PhD in public health.

Beyond my education and future career, my obsession with health is selfish. I mean, sure, I'd like to make a dif... Wed, 8 Feb 2012 13:24:12 EST Back Into That Bikini Challenge: Week Two Blog (Valentine's Day) As a part of the Living Healthy in Our 20s team challenge "Back Into That Bikini Challenge," we're supposed to post a blog about how we feel about Valentine's Day.

For me, there's not much to say really. As a kid, my family celebrated by giving each other chocolate / greeting cards and having us kids bring in to school those Valentine's Day cards with candy. I guess there was one time in 7th grade when my then "boyfriend" got me some kind of double pen/pencil thing he thought was c... Mon, 6 Feb 2012 16:05:18 EST Back Into That Bikini Challenge 2/1-2/28 GOALS As part of February's "Back into that bikini challenge" on the Living Healthy In Our 20s team forum, I am writing up a blog entry with my January goals. From what I understand, it's important to make goals specific (exactly what, when, where, with whom, how) and measurable (like a certain number of cardio minutes a certain number of times per week). It's also important to set both short and long-term goals, and to monitor your progress.

So to begin with, I'm going to state my long-... Tue, 31 Jan 2012 13:11:30 EST Moving: To Pittsburgh, On, and (Hopefully) Down the Scale So my fiance and I have moved in with his folks in Pittsburgh. He's liking his job, which keeps him away from the house from about 7 am to 6 pm every weekday. His mom got me a membership at their nearby yoga/Pilates studio. I have unlimited classes for a month.

This morning I went with his mom to "Flow," a combination of yoga and Tai Chi. It's a good class, but I'm young and healthy and should really also be doing something more vigorous. My fiance says we can both do some kind of ... Mon, 9 Jan 2012 12:42:07 EST Eat To Live apple pita Mmm, I just made the most satisfying delicious thing! I toasted a whole wheat pita and spread a little almond butter on it, sprinkled cinnamon on that and topped it with apple slices. Then I cheated a bit and made chai tea, adding unsweetened almond milk (no additional sweetener). It was divine! Homey and warm, sweet with spices, autumnal, just what I wanted!

I love fall. I've already made a soup with an acorn squash, and I've got another one plus a butternut squash. I can't ... Mon, 12 Sep 2011 14:09:43 EST Eat To Live update Okay, so, I've been on Eat To Live (more or less) since my mom's visit on July 16th. I've lost about 15 pounds. I've had some slip ups, at first due to trips out of town and things (I would order salads in restaurants and just let myself eat whatever dressing/croutons/cheese came with it). But then, I had gotten my addiction-symptoms running again, and after getting back I had my mind on this plot to get Chinese food, followed by another trip during which I also ate poorly (it was my siste... Wed, 31 Aug 2011 22:46:29 EST Eat To Live! Last weekend (July 15-17), my mom came down to visit me and my fiance. She's been following Eat To Live for some time now, and asked if it would be fine to continue eating that way during her visit. I have been in the midst of trying to get healthy by revamping my eating habits, so I enthusiastically told her I would do the plan with her for the weekend.

We spent Saturday morning at the farmer's market and the rest of the day making the "anti-cancer" soup from Eat To Live (it is ... Mon, 25 Jul 2011 12:02:53 EST Eating Breakfast I've not always been good in my life about eating breakfast. I think the habit of skipping breakfast really got engrained into me in high school, when I had so much trouble just getting up in time for school that I skipped breakfast altogether. I would be a zombie for the first part of the day, and attributed it to having to get up so early, not skipping breakfast!

It's a habit I still fall into sometimes. If I have somewhere to go in the morning, I might just skip out without e... Thu, 14 Jul 2011 11:13:23 EST Whew! It's been a while... Hello again, everyone. SparkPeople is a great site in that if you disappear for a bit, the emails call you back and you can pick right up again. Today is a good day. I ate the Aldi equivalent of Kashi's GoLean Crunch for breakfast with some skim milk and raspberries. Raspberries are maybe my favorite food in the whole wide world. If only they were ALWAYS in season and weren't so expensive!

So for lunch I think I'll treat myself to a salad and some coffee with skim milk. I'm a... Mon, 11 Jul 2011 12:59:24 EST TA Symposium Today I attended a symposium for graduate students who will be teaching assistants this fall. I will be assisting my adviser in an undergraduate research methods class. I got my fiance to drive me to campus this morning, but after that, I was on my own. What a great day of walking I had! I walked all over campus. I'm optimistic that this fall I'll be doing plenty of walking just to get around between classes, etc.

The only thing I'm worried about is how to eat. I don't have a... Tue, 17 Aug 2010 16:56:09 EST A new day, a new beginning Well I haven't been sticking to any kind of strict plan lately. I still haven't found an effective way to enjoy being with people while refusing to enjoy what food is being offered! Just because my fiance brings home all the extra cake, doesn't mean I have to eat it, right? Wrong.

I have not found a way to feel like I'm really having fun without overindulging in food at parties and other social events. The other issue is that my apartment that I share with my fiance is always f... Mon, 19 Jul 2010 14:01:47 EST Allow me to introduce myself My struggle with weight and living a healthy life began a long time ago. As a child, I remember doctors pointing to charts and saying that I was on the upper side of the average range for weight, and well below the average range for height. Being just an elementary school kid, I figured that meant my weight was on track and my height was all wrong! But I was a happy kid and if I was overweight, I didn't know it.

When I entered jr. high and high school, I began to notice that I ... Wed, 14 Jul 2010 00:50:06 EST
