BRIDEJEN's SparkPeople Blog BRIDEJEN's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community 14 in 2014 Challenge I'm challenging myself to lose 14 lbs in 2014. My goal date is March 1 since that is 7 weeks from today.

I will do my starting weigh in tomorrow. Fri, 10 Jan 2014 12:19:03 EST Day 3 So today is Day 3 of my Streak. I feel pretty good. I am really trying to give it my all this time. 521

I didn't get as much exercise in as I had hopped but I went for a 2.5 mile walk. I work 12 hr shifts so it's pretty difficult to find time to exercise. Besides the important thing is to do something which I did so 224 .

I am having trouble staying within my calorie limit. I think I will get the hang of it if I keep logging and measuring ev... Tue, 22 Oct 2013 22:31:11 EST Motivation I bought the Spark Solution book as soon as it came out and followed the plan for 2 weeks and lost 10 lbs in those 2 weeks. Of course I gained them back because I went on vacation. That was in July and I still haven't gotten my motivation to start back. I decided not to follow the Solution plan until I use up all of the food in my pantry and freezer. I planned on measuring diligently and tracking everything and staying within my calorie limit. Haven't done it once. I've been guesstimating how... Tue, 22 Oct 2013 00:56:20 EST Spark Solutions Summer Challenge Progress I am so excited about the Spark Solutions Summer Challenge!!! I have to be honest, when I first got the book I was pretty skeptical that it would work but I am on Day 9 of the Summer Challenge and I have lost 10 lbs.

I have never ever in my life lost 10 lbs in a week and a half not even on a crash diet. Best part is, I feel healthy, not hungry at all, more alert and all around better. This is so awesome I can't even explain it.

I have a habit of getting on the scale an... Tue, 2 Jul 2013 21:40:22 EST Off to a Good Start I started the Summer Spark Solution Challenge on Monday. So far it has gone well. I have felt pretty hungry in between meals/snacks but when I eat it is enough food to fill me up. I've been getting hungry about an hour before my next time to eat. I think that is probably good. I'm probably just not used to actually getting very hungry.

The exercising is going ok. I have bad knees so I don't usually do squats and lunges which is the majority of the program's strength workout. I tri... Its hard to work that long, prepare food every day, spend time with my husband, fit in a workout and get enough sleep.

Mon, 24 Jun 2013 08:42:20 EST How Much Everyday Weigh I saw this on someone else's blog site and I thought it could be a great tool and if it's on my blog I can find it easier.

1 pound = a Guinea Pig
1.5 pounds = a dozen Krispy Kreme glazed donuts
2 pounds = a rack of baby back ribs
3 pounds = an average human brain
4 pounds = an ostrich egg
5 pounds = a Chihuahua
6 pounds = a human’s skin
7.5 pounds = an average newborn
8 pounds = a human head
10 pounds= chemical additives an Ame... Sun, 24 Mar 2013 21:23:19 EST Goal Met!!! My short-term goal was to be at 231 by the end of March. Here it is 8 days early and I have met that goal. 248

I am down 8 lbs since January 1. I noticed a difference in the way my clothes felt a few weeks ago but now I am starting to see a difference in the way my clothes look. I also can tell a difference in my strength and how much effort it takes to complete certain tasks.

On the right track and hoping to stay motivated. 244 Sat, 23 Mar 2013 04:15:46 EST Diagnosis: Chondromalacia Patella About 13 years ago I was in a really bad car accident. I broke my femur and had to have a rod put in my leg. I have 2 screws in my knee and 1 in my hip. I have had varying levels of knee pain since then and I thought it was normal because of the rod and screws. Over the past year it has gotten worse and my knee has started cracking nearly every time I bend it or unbend it. At first the cracking didn't hurt it was just annoying. Then it started to hurt. Finally I decided to make an appointment... Wed, 13 Mar 2013 21:20:27 EST Tone Your Abs and Legs With These Hard-Core Moves If you're a beginner, try to do 12 reps and 3 sets of each move along with cardio intervals. Or if you're advanced, try 20 reps and 3 sets to go along with cardio intervals.

Donkey Kick
1. Start on your hands and knees, with your knees directly under your hips and your wrists in line with your shoulders. Keep your back and neck straight and look forward. Shift your weight to your left leg.
2. With your hands still firmly planted on the ground, kick your right leg up an... Tue, 29 Jan 2013 15:29:54 EST Prisoner Squat/Steam Engine/Reverse-Lunge Combo This three-in-one exercise will get your glutes, thighs, and abdominals in top form. The prisoner squat stretches your chest as it works your butt and thighs; the steam engine targets your abs and hip flexors; and the reverse lunge brings the focus back to your lower body. Ready, set, go!
Step 1
Stand with your feet slightly more than hip width apart and place your hands behind your head.

Step 2
Pull your abs in tight and slowly lower yourself into a squat, then r... Tue, 29 Jan 2013 15:27:11 EST Goal Setting My long term goal is to be able to run a marathon. I would like to be able to ride my bike on the bike trails at Arkabutla Lake. Of course, I want to feel good in a bathing suit. I want to feel good in my own skin. More than that I want to feel healthy and alive.

I want to have a healthy BMI which means that I should weigh no more than 167 lbs.

I will achieve this goal by first and foremost eating healthy most of the time. I realize that I will occasionally cave into m... Tue, 29 Jan 2013 15:17:58 EST Rescue Me List Rescue Me

When life throws you curveballs, you can dodge them or let them hit you right between the eyes. Sometimes, though, you don't get a choice. For the moments when you can't avoid them, create a "Rescue Me" list. What kinds of healthy activities make you feel better? How about enjoying a bubble bath, taking a walk, or getting a massage? The next time you're staring down a crisis, reach for the "Rescue Me" list, not a bag of chips.

Taking a walk
Shower <... Tue, 29 Jan 2013 15:04:27 EST Not So Good Today Today hasn't been a good day at all. I woke up with a headache, still tired like I hadn't slept at all and my muscles were sore around my ribs. I don't have any food left in the fridge that's ready to go and I didn't have time to cook so I went to Abbay's to buy dinner for tonight while I'm at work. I didn't look up calories until after I ate it. My dinner alone was almost 1300 calories. I only ate breakfast and dinner so I am still under my calorie limit so its ok. Just need to remember not ... Wed, 26 Sep 2012 22:19:32 EST Moving On 311

Another good day!!!!

I found a workout on SP that was for runners and beginner runners. I decided to try it since my form of exercise is walking (I am doing the walking 5K in 5 weeks plan now and plan to move on to the next level everytime I complete a program). Well.... I am so out of shape I had to modify the beginners' program. But I know I will get stronger the more I do it so I'm not focused on my current lack of strength. My modifications weren't to... Wed, 26 Sep 2012 00:15:37 EST Progress Report So I haven't been doing great on my goals but I think I am getting better. My husband had kidney stones removed last week and I didn't want to leave him home alone so I sat around the house. I should've done some sort of workout but I didn't.

This week is looking much better. I think I feel my energy increasing so maybe my vitamin D deficiency is getting better.

I managed to make 2 casseroles to put in the freezer. They aren't super healthy but they are better than eat... Tue, 25 Sep 2012 05:51:38 EST Goals for the Rest of September So I just decided that I am going to post monthly goals and weekly progress reports.

52 My goal for the rest of September are:

1. Stock my freezer with healthy home-prepared meals so that I will have good healthy food to eat on my workdays. (I work 4-12 hour days so I hate cooking on my work days because I feel like I work, come home, cook, eat, clean kitchen, go to bed, repeat. Its exhausting.)

2. 314 Exercise at least 3 days a week. Ev... Wed, 19 Sep 2012 09:52:56 EST Setting New Goals As I said in my last blog, I'm trying to restart. I don't even remember what my goals were so I'm definitely going to have to set new goals and completely start over.

I'm thinking maybe I should set one month goals for now. It seems that I have a hard time staying focused because something always comes up. Usually I get sick (I'm a very whiny sick person) or an out-of-town trip to see the inlaws which means eating out for every meal everyday (I'm terrible at picking a healthy meal... Tue, 11 Sep 2012 20:34:37 EST Trying to get back on track I've tried and re-started so many times. I am really sick of this so I am trying to do it the Spark-way instead of my way.

A few weeks ago I was craving chocolate chip cookies. I didn't want to ruin my eating so I didn't have any. As it turned out, I ate everything but cookies. A week later I was still craving the cookies.

I was getting the grocery list together and asked my hubby if he wanted anything. He said he wanted ice cream but didn't need it.

At the... Mon, 10 Sep 2012 01:54:27 EST Ugh! I was doing really good. I was working out and eating right. I was moving more at work to counter the sedentary desk job effects. Then I got sick. I had a really bad bacterial infection that took 2 rounds of antibiotics to get rid of. As soon as I felt better from that I was trying to get a jumpstart on my yardsale planning so I cleaned out my garage. I guess I stirred up too much dust and my allergies caused my chest and throat to be sore all over again. I have been fighting that since last ... Wed, 5 Sep 2012 14:56:35 EST Week 1 Summary My first week didn't go as well as I had hoped but it wasn't all a loss.

I went for a walk in the morning and evening on Monday. I did the 30 Day Shred workout on Monday and the SP 10 Minute Workout days 1-3 on Wednesday. I didn't do my yoga or walk on Tuesday or Thursday.

I woke up with a terrible migraine this morning so I didn't go for a walk or do a workout DVD. It hurt so bad I called out sick from work and slept until noon. I felt much better when I woke up at no... Sat, 24 Mar 2012 01:20:15 EST Recommitment My original goal when I joined Sparkpeople was to lose weight before my wedding which was last summer. I was able to lose a little bit of the weight that I wanted to lose before the wedding but not all of it. Since then, I have regained the weight.

I was depressed for most of the year while I was planning my wedding. I wasn't able to fight the depression hard enough to battle my weight loss. I was on anti-depressants but they weren't helping. I thought it must be pre-wedding stres... Sat, 17 Mar 2012 01:34:15 EST My First 5K I signed up for a 5K at church about a month ago. I had great plans to work hard to get myself ready for it but my plans all fell apart. My fiancé got sick and I had to take him to the doctor's a couple of times. Then I picked up a lot of extra shifts at work. Then I was just plain lazy. So I didn't workout hardly at all and I definitely wasn't ready for it. I made myself go anyway with the idea that I would do the best I could. My fiancé went with me. Since he has had a cold this week on top... Sat, 9 Apr 2011 22:40:38 EST I can do this I went to a movie yesterday. There was a preview of a new movie about a teenage girl who learns to surf then gets attacked by a shark. She loses her arm but she still wants to surf. She learned how to surf with one arm.

I have no idea if it is based on a true story or not but it inspired me. The whole time I was watching the preview I kept thinking "if she can surf with one arm I can lose weight."

There are people all over the world who have to overcome so many things. I... Wed, 9 Mar 2011 04:46:39 EST I'm Sorry Dear Me:

I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I have always neglected you. I'm sorry that I didn't take care of you. I'm sorry for filling you with junk food instead of the healthy veggies, fruits and grains that you crave. I'm sorry for smoking all of those years. I'm sorry for sitting on the couch watching boring TV instead of taking you outside, going for a walk or swimming.

I have started trying to take better care of you. I did manage to quit smoking. It has been over a year ... Wed, 16 Feb 2011 21:52:32 EST Feeling Good I have managed to stay on track and I feel great. There were a couple of days that I didn't eat very healthy foods but I was just a little over my calorie budget. I think I did good despite going slightly over. Both days that I went over I had eaten at restaurants. I think I didn't do too bad with my choices. I feel really good about working out too. I haven't missed one yet. Fri, 28 Jan 2011 00:52:50 EST Me Better?!? So I was at the gym last week. I was on the elliptical sweating my butt off and two ladies came in and started to use the elliptical machines beside me. THey were only on the machines for a few minutes before they stopped and walked a few rows over. I was like wow am I sweating that bad??? Then I noticed that they were using the treadmills. After my elliptical time was up, I went through my normal circuit on the weight machines. I was on my last machine, blasting my music in my earbuds to kee...
