BRANDNEWBUFFY's SparkPeople Blog BRANDNEWBUFFY's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Week 2 of half marathon training Well week 1 one is in the books! It was so hot last week, with excessive heat warnings most days. I mean you know it's gonna be hot if it's already 80 degrees at 5:30am! But I made it through & am thankful I could run in the morning when it was just hot, not ungodly hot ;) In addition to the 4 runs, I got in 2 ST sessions and a Zumba class. This morning's run was very different than last Mondays run. It was a cool 65 degrees and running in it felt great! I have another crazy busy week at wor... Mon, 24 Jul 2017 19:52:05 EST Let the Training begin! This morning I ran my first training run for my 3rd half marathon of the year. I know, who is this girl and what has she done with Buffy. This year marks 7 year since I ran my first half and I have never looked back! There have been years where I have hurt myself and couldn't complete a race I've signed up for but each time I lick my wounds and pick myself back up and try again. This is the first year that I've done 2 half marathons and I'm going for lucky number 3! Lucky in the hopes that I ... Mon, 17 Jul 2017 21:57:05 EST PR Half Marathon!!! Sunday I ran my first half marathon since I injured myself last year training for one. So for the record I have training for 7 half marathons and now have completed 5. It still sounds crazy for me to say that I run half marathons. My last half was my worst by far. It was 2 years ago and I did not train properly. I just moved, got a new job with very crazy hours and I let my training go by the way side.... Tue, 18 Oct 2016 21:36:48 EST You are too smart to be standing in your own way! You are way too smart to be the only thing standing in your way. Make smart choices, don't let yourself sabotage yourself because you don't feel good enough. You are good enough to attain whatever goals you set for yourself. You have the power to do whatever you put your mind to. Sun, 10 Jan 2016 10:37:57 EST I am my problem, but also my solution I tend to try to take responsibility for whatever situation I find myself in but I also admit I sometimes find my self excusing things because of things outside myself. I need to remember that I am my problem AND my solution. I am the one who is responsible for any choice I make. I'm the one that can change my behavior and my thought process. I can't always control what happens to me but I can control ... Thu, 31 Dec 2015 12:40:09 EST Love yourself enough... I saw this on Pinterest a while back and it really spoke to me. As a person who has struggled with self esteem issues and emotional eating I needed this reminder & thought I'd share in case anyone else needed this reminder too! Sun, 27 Dec 2015 11:00:01 EST Another year almost done! I can't believe that 2015 is almost over! It's been quite the year with plenty of ups and plenty of downs. I'm definitely ready to see what will happen in 2016 and the adventures I'll have. Mon, 21 Dec 2015 20:12:20 EST Back at it! Again Hi guys! It's been far too long since I've been on spark and it's time to rectify that. New month, new start.

Lots have changed. I started the new job August 11th and I love it! Absolutely love it! I moved to Des Moines from Ames a week after I started the new job. I was living with my now ex and since we broke up I needed to move anyway so the timing was perfect. So I've been trying to settle in the new job, the move and being single again. It's been hard but really rewarding to ... Sun, 2 Nov 2014 09:46:41 EST Exciting news... 1. I start training for my 4th half marathon today. It is in October and I'm excited to get the training started

2. I got a new job!!!!! YAY!!!! On August 11th I start at Hamilton's funeral home in Des Moines as their Grief Academy Coordinator! We will do support groups, plan events, do trainings for professionals and all kinds of stuff. I am thrilled and so excited and it is truly a dream come true for me.

So with all this transition I'm glad to have a training plan fo... Mon, 21 Jul 2014 11:16:49 EST Update... Hey guys! How goes it? Good I hope.

Thought I should check in quick with an update.

Went to DC the end of May beginning of June and had such a great time. It was so fun seeing all the monuments, museums, history and spending time with some good friends. I got to see my spark friend Manasa (saasha17) so that was really great. All in all it was a wonderful trip.

Still 5lbs down so that is good. Have been focusing the last few weeks on better eating so we're get... Tue, 17 Jun 2014 10:58:05 EST Day 23, I guess Howdy Sparkpeeps! How goes it? Good I hope!

I guess I'm on day 23 but it seems like it has been a lot longer then that. I'm down 5lbs but it has flucuated and I need to keep better track so I can see what is going on there. I have been doing super great with the Vitamin D (seriously the gummies make all the difference for me). Working out I have done pretty well and pretty consistent so that is good. It's the food that hasn't been great consistently. Always my issue. I had to quite... Tue, 20 May 2014 11:36:36 EST Day 8 Hi guys! Hope everyone had a weekend! Mine was really fun. The wedding was super fun on Friday. Then we spent Saturday with Andrew's family and drove the 3 hours back. Man was Drake happy to see me! Then Sunday we cleaned the apartment and that night I took my mom to Mama Mia for her birthday. We loved it! It was so good and the actors were amazing!

I did ok with food over the weekend, definitely could have been better though. But it could have been worse too. I did get my 5 days o... Mon, 5 May 2014 20:54:43 EST Day 4 Happy Thursday!

Yesterday ended pretty well. The green tea however did NOT do a good enough in the caffiene department and after having a slight head ache all morning I caved and had some coffee at lunch (which made it hard to go to sleep that night, whoops). Had a lot of fun at Zumba and kept my food in line so all in all it was a good day.

Today has gone pretty well too. I woke up early for a workout even though at first I hit my snooze. I was pretty impressed. My foo... Thu, 1 May 2014 16:36:56 EST Day 3 Yesterday went ok. I was a little disappointed in a job prospect that didn't turn out quite as I wanted so I was pretty bummed. Something may still come out of it so I don't want to jinx it but I was not in a super stellar mood last night. So it seemed like a good night to drink two glasses of wine and eat some croutons. But I tracked them all and didn't go over significantly (just ate into my flex points). So there's that. But aside from that I did pretty well on the fruits/veggies for each ... Wed, 30 Apr 2014 10:26:00 EST Day 2 So my awesome friend Manasa (SAASHA17) had a brilliant idea. She suggested that I keep myself motivated with every pound I lose that I donate a dollar to a charity in honor of Meowshine. It's perfect and exactly what I'll need to keep this momentum up. Not only will I let myself down but also knowing that this is on the line will keep me on the straight and narrow. She knows me so well :)

Day 1 went well. I ate 27 points (my allotted for the day, no extra). I went to Zumba which of... Tue, 29 Apr 2014 10:37:03 EST Time to get back at it. Again. How annoying I am an emotional eater. I know this. I sometimes can have a reign on it and sometimes I just can’t seem to get enough footing to stop it. It sucks and I’m sick of the cycle.

Since Meow got sick last year it was all I could do to keep my wits about me. I was constantly worried and would much rather sit on my couch snuggling him then working out. And besides not being consistent on my workouts I would eat terribly. Absolutely terribly. After Meow died in January there was a period o... Mon, 28 Apr 2014 10:37:44 EST My newest nephew Oliver is here! I know I'm partial but seriously how cute is he? Ok once you see the pictures you might just agree. Hope already said she loved him and that she thinks he loves her too. She is still got to get a hang of being gentle but she'll get there.

Look at that face!

My sister Jessica holding her newest baby

Proud Auntie here!
<im... Fri, 14 Feb 2014 10:19:18 EST Making some progress So my official weigh in is on Mondays but I like to weigh in on Friday morning to see where I am in hopes that it will help keep me in check for the weekend. I was so happy to see the scale move down some more; I'm down 7 pounds so far! I can tell a difference of what I had been doing (in my mind it wasn't that bad...sorry mind but you were sadly mistaken) and what I am doing now. So I'm not surprised that there are changes happening. For one my water intake was not going like it should, and... Fri, 7 Feb 2014 11:51:56 EST Here we go again... I decided to join Weight Watchers again. I had joined WW years ago and that is initially how I lost most of my weight. They changed some of their stuff around so I decided to give it a go. I have been emotionally eating and gaining and gaining weight so it was really time to do something. I'm tired of feeling bad about myself, on top of everything else I'm dealing with right now. WW is simple and I need simple in my life. So I joined.

Saturday was the anniversary dinner with my fr... Tue, 28 Jan 2014 09:57:14 EST Mail day brings me some comfort Look what I got today in the mail! I was so excited!

I badly needed it to come and it felt like I waited FOREVER for it (it actually didn't take that long but felt like it did). It's perfect and I may never take it off.

I had a real rough night last night and finally got the mail and had some very thoughtful cards from some very thoughtful people. I am a lucky girl to have the friends that I do and it he... Fri, 24 Jan 2014 12:33:35 EST Checking in Just wanted to check in and say hi. I'm still here...just been lurking mostly.

Today is 2 weeks since Meow died. Seems like forever ago for some reason. The days seem to drag on and it is really really hard being at home without him. I just keep expecting to see him and he's not there.

The vet called and went over the autopsy with me. The poor thing had pancreatic and liver cancer that we didn't know about. He also had kidney, thyroid and heart disease. The vet said tha... Thu, 23 Jan 2014 10:46:12 EST One of the hardest decisions of my life Last Thursday, right before our trip, I had to make the most heartbreaking decision. I had to put my beloved Meow to sleep. My heart is completely broken but I know it was the best decision for him. We were actually supposed to leave for Mexico on Thursday but our flight was delayed and it set us back a day. Now I know it was best so I would be there when Meow needed me the most. And I would never have forgiven myself if I was gone. I got to say my goodbyes to him and I got to hold him as he ... Thu, 16 Jan 2014 10:50:54 EST The Workout Plan Hey guys! How's everyone doing this fine Monday morning? Good I hope. I got lots of energy after catching up on sleep this weekend AND getting up early to workout. Had a nice relaxing weekend which was nice. I haven't had one of those in quite a while.

So we talked about operation Mexico and I wanted to share that finally figured out workouts. This week is the start of working this phase of the plan. Unfortunately because I didn't have this figured out and was so busy last week my ... Mon, 4 Nov 2013 10:26:10 EST Happy Halloween!!! My Halloween Costume today...

Meow's costume :)

Hope everyone has a fun day! Thu, 31 Oct 2013 11:26:25 EST Day 2 of Operation Mexico So yesterday was good too. My food was really good...until dinner. I had a protein shake after I worked out, went and ran a ton of errands (seriously I have never been so productive in an hour in my life) and then came home and had a bowl of popcorn. Not exactly the healthiest of dinners but I was still at the 1400 range for the day so it could be worse. I'll take the improvement in the small steps because I know that will help to make these changes habits again. Also I stepped on the scale t... Fri, 25 Oct 2013 10:08:28 EST Day 1 of Operation Mexico So yesterday went pretty well. I ended up eating 1400 calories which I am happy with. I said no to a lot I normally would have eaten so it was a good day. I even told Andrew no more eating out (he is a real bad food pusher) and that I wanted to lose weight before Mexico. He said he wanted to lose 10 lbs himself (which is just crazy talk because he is so cute and perfect but who am I to stand in the way of someones goal). Anyways hopefully with him on board it will make it easier but if not I'... Thu, 24 Oct 2013 10:22:58 EST Time to lose some weight y'all! So I just ran my 3rd half-marathon (YAY!). The problem with half-marathon training is you run a lot and then you eat a lot to keep up all the running. And if you are trying to lose weight (as I am) it can get really frustrating.

Anywho now that that is all over it is time to get serious about losing some weight. I'm going to Mexico in January so now seems like a great time to kick it into gear. This will be my last big trip for a while (I've started the process of paying off all m... Wed, 23 Oct 2013 12:27:06 EST 3rd Half-Marathon Recap! Can I tell you how excited I am to have that done? Real excited. I know that's bad grammar and what not but I don't care. I was ready to be done running for a while and ready to have this race under my belt. The race went well. I forgot my garmin so I had no idea how fast I was running or my timing or anything. I think that helped to just run where I felt comfortable and enjoy the race. It went by fairly fast and I was thrilled that I finished in 2 hours and 18 minutes! I thought for sure I w... Mon, 21 Oct 2013 10:48:02 EST Random Ramblings Hey Kids! How's it going? Good I hope.

Can you believe it is baby Hope's 3rd birthday?! She had a birthday party on Sunday but wasn't feeling the best but we still managed to have lots of fun. Can I tell you how she just melts my heart? I was squatting down, talking to her and she put her cute little hands on each side of my face, looked at me and kissed me. Her birthday party happened to be the 3 year anniversary of my divorce but no one else had realized it. She was pretty owly a... Wed, 2 Oct 2013 10:48:29 EST Tuesday 9/17 So I tweaked my knee Saturday when I fell down a hill. I iced it through out the day yesterday and then switched to a heating pad last night. This morning I actually felt a little better so I brought my heating pad to work so I could continue to do that today.

This morning was yoga. I have the BL Yoga DVD and it is a real like/dislike kind of thing I have going on with it. It is so hard but it feels so good to get that nice stretch. I still have modify quite a bit because of my wr... Tue, 17 Sep 2013 10:57:55 EST Weekend roundup I can't believe that I haven't blogged since the beginning of August. That is just craziness to me.

Lately I have been in a super funk. Work has been hellacious. I have been running my butt off. But not literally because I eat all the freaking time because of all the running so I am not losing weight (which is frustrating but whatever). Things have just been so up in the air and so much stuff to figure out. I'm exhausted.

But the end of last week things started to change... Mon, 16 Sep 2013 11:03:34 EST Anyone up for a diet bet?
I started another dietbet if anyone would like to play along. $10 to play, if you lose 4% over 28 days you get the pot (or if more than one wins you get it split between the winners).

It starts this Wednesday! Great way to stay motivated through the end of the summer :)
Come play with us! Mon, 5 Aug 2013 09:41:07 EST 1st training run done! Howdy my wonderful Sparkfriends! How are you guys doin today? Good I hope. Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend.

This weekend was the first Amanda the Panda day camp (grief camp for kids and adults) and it was so great. I worked with the 4th and 5th graders. There was only 3 girls in our group so it was just me and one other leader (Mark). I was a little nervous about how it would go with just the two of us and how I would do but it was awesome. Our girls were sweet and fun and we ... Mon, 22 Jul 2013 11:02:37 EST Need moving tips/how to get animals to get along... I'm sorry I have been so MIA but I have been crazy busy. Oh wait that is all of us :) I'm moving next week! I'm getting super excited but dang is it a lot of work! It's been good sorting through stuff and figuring out what to get rid of. It's been quite the task though too.

Any tips to make it easier? We are getting to move in early so we can move little bits at a time and then have help over the weekend to move the big stuff. Also I think that makes it easier because I don't nece... Wed, 17 Jul 2013 11:30:02 EST Busy bee... I *may* be burning the candles at both ends. Between the jewelry stuff and work I have been so freaking busy. At least I also have been getting my workouts in (for the most part) so that is good. I at least need that to keep me sane :) Food has been ok but not great. Seems like the story of my life lately though.

At the end of this month I move so I really have to get stuff cleaned up and packed so I have to put some of that other stuff to the side (mostly the jewelry stuff making ... Mon, 8 Jul 2013 12:28:13 EST Happy Monday (with jewelry pics) Hello my wonderful spark friends! How goes it? Good I hope. At least for a Monday. Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend. I was in with a cold but it gave me a chance to make more jewelry so it was at least kind of productive. Spent Sunday with my pops so that was good too. I'm also down two pounds so far in my dietbet so that is great. All in all things are going pretty good around here.

The jewelry stuff is going really good. I'm going to do the Farmer's Market again this Saturday... Mon, 17 Jun 2013 15:06:39 EST Diet Bet Challenge Hey guys and gals...
Just wanted to remind anyone who might want to join my diet bet, here is the link.

It's 10 bucks to get in and if you lose 4% of your body weight to win (and split the pot with whoever else does too). For me last time it was 5lbs in 28 days so definitely doable. It starts on Monday and the final weigh in is July 8th.

Come play with me!

Thu, 6 Jun 2013 11:48:24 EST Diet bet challenge? So I decided to start a challenge...anyone game?

Basically you pay $10 to bet that you can lose 4% of your body weight in 28 days. The last game I played, that was 5 pounds for me. Whoever loses 4% gets to split the pot. It kept me really motivated and on track last time and I'm thinking it would be fun to start a game. I did not quite reach my goal but want to give it another shot. Just so you guys know you don't have to shar... Tue, 4 Jun 2013 12:06:37 EST Photo weekend Recap Happy Monday, sparkfriends! Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend. Mine was pretty good. Today’s blog is going to be mostly pictures.

First look at this pin my mom gave me on Sunday. Blast from the past! I look so young. This is me my junior year I think when I played soccer

Ok so Saturday was the Farmer's Market and it went really really well. Here is my set up
<img src="http://photos-ak.spar... Mon, 3 Jun 2013 10:47:00 EST Happy Thursday INDEED! So today has been a really good day. Meowshine had his all day vet visit again today to check how his levels are, see if the dose of insulin is good for him. When I dropped him off they were gonna weigh him and I asked if they could let me know how much he weighs because my boy is a little chunk now. I make Andrew pick him up too to see how heavy he has gotten :) She said he is 9.5 pounds. He was a little under 5 lbs when this all started two months ago. It was really great to hear. Then I go... Thu, 23 May 2013 16:58:18 EST Weekend round up with pics :) Heyyyy! How is everyone doing? Survive the weekend? I managed to. I was in a wedding and it was really fun. Andrew came and we danced and had the best time. He is the best boyfriend I tell you. Here is a few pics.

Andrew and I between the ceremony and reception

The bracelets I made for the bridesmaids to wear

My finally told m... Tue, 21 May 2013 12:21:57 EST Weekend wrap up Well last weekend did not go according to plan. Parts of it really, really sucked but then there were all these other parts that were really, really good. Brace yourself, this is a bumpy ride :)

So the Farmer’s Market was Saturday morning. It sucked. It was really cold and really windy (like the vendor tents kept blowing down because the gust were so freaking strong) and technically I had one non-related, non-friend sale. For $5. We had to hold things down and things kept blowing ... Mon, 13 May 2013 11:09:00 EST Hulu workout and other coffee ramblings Holy moly. I did another of those core fusion workouts on hulu and I’m pretty sure tomorrow I will not be able to walk. This one was a little different, a little less pilates but still crazy hard for how ‘simple’ the movements seem. The first segment was arms and I started using my 5lb weights. I had to put those down quickly and switch to my 3lb. Which seems crazy but when you are doing 20 reps and then the next one continuously it’s bound to heat up those muscles. I should have known bette... Thu, 9 May 2013 11:05:07 EST Week update and pictures! Has it really been a week since I last blogged? Geez, where does the time go?
Well the farmer’s market did not happen because it snowed Thursday and Friday here in Iowa. Crazy, right? But it has all melted and I’m on for this weekend instead so here’s hoping it goes really well. I did get to spend the weekend with the BF and some good friends so it was a really good weekend over all. My food intake was not the greatest but it wasn’t terrible. Although this week I’m up .5 but I’m not lett... Wed, 8 May 2013 09:41:54 EST The bf's back :) Happy girl Happy Wednesday my sparkfriends! How goes it? I hope good.

I have had a fabulous last couple of days. Andrew is back which makes me a happy girl. I got to see him last night and we watched ‘ParaNorman’ which I really enjoyed. I’m finally puppy free and I have to say Meow seems a little happy about that :) Andrew’s dog is about a year old or so and she wants to play with Meow (which he wants no part of). I had Meow blocked off in my room and bathroom most of the time (mostly to keep... Wed, 1 May 2013 10:42:40 EST Weekend recap I’m working on getting some energy but it isn’t quite working. My starbucks energy drink thing needs to kick in stat!

I hope everyone had a good weekend! Mine was pretty good. Friday night was my brother’s girlfriend’s graduation party. I ate before I went so I did not have food there (or cake) and had one beer. I had to drive back home so drinking a bunch wasn’t an option anyway but I was glad that I stuck to the one beer and didn’t eat cake and a bunch of crap I didn’t need. I di... Mon, 29 Apr 2013 10:34:47 EST Happy Friday! Hey Sparkfriends! Happy Friday!
I was up bright and early this morning. I worked out with Mr. Blanks this morning. Today was Celebrity Fit Cardio and its one that always has me sore the next day so I got a really good workout in. Today I’m feeling the Pilates from yesterday. My thighs and core are sore! Definitely will be putting that into my routine. We’ll just say that my core is definitely lacking. So I think that will be good to add strength and flexibility.

I also had to ... Fri, 26 Apr 2013 12:18:11 EST New Pilates Workout this morning. Holy tired legs batman! Seriously I forget how much of a work out pilates and yoga is. It’s important even though it isn’t a big calorie burner because of the muscles you are using and building. I did a new one on my hulu that’s been sitting in my queue forever this morning and it was tough! Their modified was not modified enough for me. I am not super flexible so that caused some issues for me to do what they wanted me to do but I tried and rested when I needed (the arm one was basically a b... Thu, 25 Apr 2013 10:45:07 EST Weekend Recap I was exhausted after this weekend. Physically, emotionally, sleep deprived, but it was amazing. It always is. The kids were great, we had a lot of fun, we worked through some things and I left feeling so happy I could be there to share that time with them. That I could help provide them some comfort and more importantly fun. That I could be there as they connected with their peers suffering a similar loss and to be a catalyst for some healing is amazing and I can’t imagine not doing it. I sh... Tue, 23 Apr 2013 09:55:53 EST Who are you? (in my head that sounds like the Chesire Cat) Ok, I don’t even know who I am anymore *cue over dramatic music here*
This motivation thing is crazy because I haven’t felt it in such a long time so it seems so unlike me (which is probably the really sad part). I mean I’m really grateful but it’s just so weird to me. So this morning I was so tired when my alarm went off, my neck is really hurting from the kink in my neck and my muscles are tense from holding it in a weird way as to not have it hurt more and I so did not want to get up ... Fri, 19 Apr 2013 10:48:49 EST
