BOE4LIFE's SparkPeople Blog BOE4LIFE's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community The last and the first day... Well today is the end of an era, this is the last day of my military career. Tomorrow I am officially a civilian. I must say it is bitter sweet, I mean a new beginning is a good thing but it kinda feels like goodbye. So many places I have been, people I have met and things I have done that I will never get to see and do. No more Schwarmas in Saudi, no more Bulgogi (BBQ Beef) in Korea and my chances of meeting such a wide variety of people as I had int he military is gone as well. However here... Mon, 30 Apr 2012 11:03:59 EST Been a few days... Alright to catch up on me...

Umm same old same old. Yesterday I helped a neighbor take down a telephone style pole with an alarm on the top. It was umm, not the safest operation but we got it down with no human injuries and minimal damage to the alarm device. We estimated it to be about 35 feet in the air and the device weighing about 100 lbs. Yeah the pole was closer to 45 and the device weighed over 200-250 I could barely move it on my own and after my run ins with trees, well ye... Thu, 26 Apr 2012 11:21:09 EST Lovin life Ahhh life is good. I have not been weighing in and logging all my food and doing everything perfectly lately and for right now I am good with that. The time spent in the 40 acre yard is creating deficit in my calories so I am not concerned. There is also the fact that I have not eaten anything cooked in a microwave in weeks, like 7 of them, reheated yes, cooked no. So the food I am taking in is actually mashed potatoes not processed, we have had pizza like 3 times so I am doing very well. Li... Thu, 19 Apr 2012 09:37:56 EST Pics of where I am and what I have been up to. . Now for the wood pile I have been talking about... here are the sticks I bundled... . Well that is abut all folks. My sinuses have been plugged severely so toda... Mon, 9 Apr 2012 10:03:44 EST Am I the only one? Does anyone else out there have a chore, job,or task that is not enjoyable to the normal person who is not used to doing said task. Ummm clear as mud. Is there anyone else who believes hard physically demanding labor is relaxing and dare I say it therapeutic? Since being here I have shoveled poop, been covered in nasty chainsaw shavings, 7 different types of automotive fluids, sweat, some blood, rain, cold wind, had muddy boots, muddy wet pants and shirts, smashed fingers, arms, legs, backs ... Thu, 5 Apr 2012 20:59:28 EST I am loving this yard work Well today was another day full of yard work. There are branches and twigs abounding in great profusion throughout the property and I have taken on the task of getting it under control. Today I cut up a few larger limbs with a chainsaw that were laying in the yard, some of which were up to 4 inches in diameter so you know what that means, oh yeah chainsaw time. I am really getting the hang of maintaining a chainsaw, sharpening the chain, servicing the oil, and adjusting the tension. Good skil... Thu, 29 Mar 2012 12:48:24 EST YEEEEHAW!!!! CHAINSAW!!! GLORY BE! MACHETE!!!! Oh yeah. I am finding that this duo is nigh unbeatable in the war on fallen trees and limbs. If you have ever used a chainsaw to carve up a fallen tree or branch then you know how enjoyable all those smaller limbs hanging out there like fishing poles in a boat, pointing every which way and snagging everything, blocking access from the main body like hundreds oof lil body guards. What to do? MACHETE! A good 20 inch or so machete with a decent edge (easily achieved with a file) can remove branc... Tue, 27 Mar 2012 07:02:48 EST Guess who I found... Hello fellow Sparkers. You would never guess who I found. Remember that guy who was gung-ho and motivated? Well I found him, turns out he was in Indiana waiting for me. I had missed him as I am sure some of you had. Well he is back.

StressBusters:

We finished the move from Kansas to Indiana and the house we owned in Kansas has a buyer. We are not going to make a lot of money off the sale but we will not have 2 mortgages. So big stress busted.

The trip from Kan... Thu, 22 Mar 2012 10:05:26 EST I am here Greetings, yes, I am still alive but my spark journey has been put on hold. My stress levels are exceptionally high (to the point of being on high blood pressure meds) and I have so much to concentrate on that all things other than retirement, selling my house, out-processing, and training the new guy have been put into a holding pattern. I apologize to all of you for not being here for you however right now I barely have enough for the tasks at hand and I was concerned that I might not have ... Wed, 22 Feb 2012 08:01:04 EST Today I was worth it… Yes, you read it correctly, today I was worth it. Worth what, you may inquire, worth getting out of bed and lacing up my running shoes. I was worth getting out in the chill, worth giving up the sleep, just worth doing it. Yesterday I was worth it and tomorrow, well tomorrow isn’t here yet, is it? Actually I don’t care for that word, tomorrow, it is far too ambiguous, to open ended, too loop hole’ish. Yes I made that word up, it fits. The 2nd of February I will decide yet again if I am worth i... Wed, 1 Feb 2012 08:16:14 EST I seem to have the consistency of pudding... Good morning all. Well I drug my lazy butt out of bed again, something inside made me force myself to get up as well as do some pre-planning the night before. This is a must for me to keep going so it may, scratch that, has to become a regular thing. The route this morning was a different one because I needed a change of scenery however I regret to say that most of the scenery was missed and the run was more of a zombie march but it got done and that is what matters right? The big thing is th... Tue, 31 Jan 2012 08:27:46 EST Changes… Well I am officially over 40 (by a few days) and for some reason I feel aged. This is most assuredly a mental thing exaggerated by my heightened stress levels but it “feels” real. My energy levels are down and my body is kind of achy all the time. Rest assured though I will work through this as well. One very positive note is that I feel mellower; more at ease save for the occasional attack of the blahs and exasperation. If you are a non-smoker then I have no reference but if you are a smoker... Mon, 30 Jan 2012 18:45:47 EST Out of the mouths of babes... Here are a few tidbits of wisdom from kiddos...

On eating too much
"My tummy is full , but my tongues not done yet"

On Anger
"Don't be angry daddy; it's just people"

On enjoyment
"oooo choco"

Familiarity
We asked our daughter where she wanted to go to spend her birthday money when she was around 7. She said she wanted to go to the "Always" store. This threw us for loops. Finally we ended up going to Wal-Mart and asked her if it w... Thu, 26 Jan 2012 20:10:03 EST Last Day Well today is the last day of the 39th day of my life. Tomorrow I turn 40. Holy crap I made it and I am in better shape than a lot of the 40 yr olds I have seen. The military has seen to that but they have also given me the skill sets I require to stay slimmer. I know that not everyone can avoid putting on weight as I am not completely devoid of a minimal understanding of the weight gain process and the factors that can play into it BIG TIME. Illness, injury, medications, genetics, financial,... Wed, 25 Jan 2012 06:42:43 EST So there you are… What do you do? So there you are, standing in front of the food table at a party. Cupcakes, cheesecake, donuts, fudge, mixed nuts, veggie tray, sausage platter, cheese platter, candies, crackers, veggie dips, pigs in blankets, cocktail weenies, shrimp skewers, fruit trays, punch, sodas, water, coffee, tea, meat trays, pita breads, hummus, pickled cucumbers, deviled eggs, spring rolls, egg rolls, meatballs in BBQ sauce, cheese spreads, spinach dips, ranch dressing, ham, French bread, Hawaiian bread, olive tra... Tue, 24 Jan 2012 11:21:46 EST Ok I saw this and just HAD to share Ok this is just too cute if you have little ones. Share this if you like. Sat, 21 Jan 2012 07:36:44 EST Ahhh Friday Alright I have taken the last 2 days off from running. This is ok because my ankle started giving me grief and I know that if it isn't given a chance to recoup then it will set me back further so I made the command decision to give it a rest. I must concede and wear the ankle brace on my runs there may be a need to get a second one as well. That is all good. My strength training plan needs to be rebooted so I can get this shoulder back up to speed. Realistically though the program is coming b... Fri, 20 Jan 2012 10:29:07 EST Time off with THOR God of Thunder...Funny story about a man (me) and his hammer My van has been making noises for a while clunks and the like, I had someone verify that is was shocks and ball joints. The lower ball joint in the front on my van is a little piece, the upper is the whole control arm so extensive, garages call it "labor intensive" aka big pain in the butt. So I bought the tools I needed a strut compressor (a big hoggin clamp to keep the coil spring in check so it doesn't jump out and kick my butt), dumber men have had fingers and noses etc broken and worse w... Thu, 19 Jan 2012 11:03:27 EST I am the only one who can beat me and I can take him. Well I did it again got up and got out. There is something empowering about overcoming the WAHHHH of wanting to sleep in. I am in charge here not that other guy lurking inside that wants to sleep in and eat a half a bag of cheese chips. As of right now I am showing him who is in charge. He is so lazy, I mean seriously lay in bed instead of getting out and doing a run? What are you high? That is how I get my jeans to stop fitting, get winded on the stairs, lack energy all day and just generall... Wed, 18 Jan 2012 08:20:07 EST Tuesday Run (Did Not Sleep In up and dressing at 0445) Alright well I did it again. I drug my tired butt out of bed and went for a run. I used the same 2 mile route until I can get back into the groove again. 19 min 5 second 2 mile, so I am building back up and it is feeling good. There was only one problem this morning, it was chilly 17 F with a 1 F wind chill but once I got going it went really well. I must find my “Ninja “mask to keep from breathing icicles next time. Other than my face my body was fine, I actually broke a sweat. Oh yeah, I p... Tue, 17 Jan 2012 08:12:27 EST What I did on 15 jan 112 Well I had to get out of my house so the realtor could show it so I went and saw some relaxing sights here they are, oh and pics of me...
     <img src="http://p... Sun, 15 Jan 2012 20:45:12 EST Get Up, Dress Up, Show Up… These words of wisdom were shared with me about a year ago through a SP blog. Today I used them as I lay in my warm comfy bed and the alarm clock whispered sweet nothings into my ear, MEEP MEEP MEEP!!! I truly wish I spoke alarm clock as I am sure it is saying “Time to rise you strong, handsome, sexy, talented man”. Yeah, I like to think that and on second thought maybe it is better I don’t speak alarm clock the message may be slightly different than that and I like my translation just fine. ... Fri, 13 Jan 2012 08:28:48 EST I gotta find me again This journey has been one helluva roller coaster. The ups and downs, the losses and gains and all the rest of it. There were highs so high I thought I could take over for Atlas and give his shoulders a break from the weight of the the world. There were lows when I actually wondered if it were all to end would I even be missed. There have been endorphin rushes that made me dizzy and feeling like an addict. There were injuries that took me down to the point where I couldn't carry on and had to ... Tue, 10 Jan 2012 13:32:09 EST I wrote this funny story awhile ago. It is about age and wisdom. Enjoy So there I stood at the edge of what used to be, gazing into what was to come with eyes that had seen so much. As I stood thoughtfully contemplating what I had done and what I was about to undertake a tear came to my eye. It was a tear of triumph, anxiety, joy, wonder, and uncertainty. My prior life had more than prepared me for what lay ahead but it had also taught me not to lunge headlong into the unknown without at least some preparation. As I stood there with the weight of decades past an... Sun, 8 Jan 2012 12:11:51 EST Slow is smooth and smooth is fast..." I heard this for the first time yesterday and it makes sense. Let me define it for you;

Slow is smooth: when we take our time and do things right we don't have to redo things and we can move onto the next project without having to worry about the last one because we know it is done right.

Smooth is fast: By not having to re-work things we save a lot of time that can be used to do new projects which we will do in the same manner and we get more done.

See I tol... Fri, 6 Jan 2012 15:15:07 EST Helping and Insight
It has been a pretty good day today. I have actually helped a few people and received some help from others. I started the day by being asked to scrutinize a tool box for damaged tools and the like, so I spent 3 hours inspecting a tool box. Things were found and the individual corrected them. They asked me because I am good at things like that, you may not be able to tell due to some of my random rants on here but it is a truth.

Many years ago when I was younger and had a ful... Thu, 5 Jan 2012 12:58:27 EST What are you going to do with your bright shiny new slate? This is a question I have been asking myself for the past few days. I am gonna help 1 person everyday, carry a box, hold a door, do some research, help them do their job, do dishes, help push em outta the snow, shovel a sidewalk, run an errand, give em a smile, take on a task for them, help em carry groceries, or anything else I can do to help. 1 person minimum everyday. I am going to try to learn 1 thing per day, no matter how small or from whom. One thing everyday, how to clean something, how... Mon, 2 Jan 2012 11:39:16 EST My wife is a superhero and I love her to pieces. YES! The wife comes home tonight after being in Indiana since before Christmas. I can't wait to give her a hug and a kiss. Then there is the kiddo my lil angel, who is not so little anymore. Seems like she just poofed and got big. Oh yeah and my furbaby. Time spent alone is always welcome, but there is just so long I can rattle around in an empty house. However it was a very successful time as the house looks awesome, but she needs to be home.

I just realized I have not told any ... Fri, 30 Dec 2011 12:57:11 EST Christmas with a scrub brush... Hello there. Well I am back, felt the need to take a breather. Well the holidays went…well. We are trying to sell our house so we can move and I was told on Friday the 23rd of December, that they wanted to do a showing on the 26th of December. No worries right? Well I have this thing that I do that is linked into OCD and I went BERZERK. I had a 4 day weekend YAY me. I really needed it. Ok let me throw in some details; the wife, kiddo and puppy went to Indiana on the 22nd to set up an account... Thu, 29 Dec 2011 09:19:39 EST Foot saga... Good day Sparkers. Well I want to apologize for not being as steadfast as normal but we are busy right now at work. About a month ago I was playing indoor soccer (remember the foot photos?) well that injury never quite healed right and once again we played indoor soccer. I was doing good prior to that if you recall I did the 2 mile run in a respectable time and things looked good. We went to play indoor soccer and about 10 minutes into the game I let the ball have it and it let me have it bac... Fri, 16 Dec 2011 08:09:47 EST Dark cloud Ahhh today is a ... day. I went for a light 20 minute run followed by calisthenics. Things were going well. Then I tried to have some fun and someone got their pnaties in a bunch. I think I am finally done with work. I once said that I couldn't say I don't care and mean it, that is changing. I am tired, getting short tempered, losing the attention to detail I once had the little details are beginning to slip by me and minute mistakes are going unnoticed. My fitness program well it is not goin... Mon, 12 Dec 2011 12:51:39 EST Like, Wow man. Sitting there eating carrots and watching a work out video." ya gotta love people huh? Mon, 5 Dec 2011 15:24:48 EST The kitchen inspires my inner poet. What inspires you? Alright fellow Sparkers, I am glad you liked the post about the weight comparison. I am thinking about maybe trying to get more accurate numbers and reposting a more accurate blog on that as I think I low balled it pretty bad with the 10 lb weight loss number. This weekend was good but not as productive as I needed it to be, but that is neither here nor there.

Ok I am getting back into the kitchen and starting to cook again. I love it, the smells and flavors of the simmering sauce... Mon, 5 Dec 2011 09:49:18 EST Did u know SP has helped over 6 Million people lose 4,501 African Elephants? Yes life is good. The good news is that despite my recent and not so recent injuries I have been able to hold my weight gain off and lose a few pounds thank s to all of you. At work I eat what I bring, saying no to the doughnuts, cakes, pizza, candy bars and sodas are easy. Peer pressure has never really been a problem for me, a friend is something I have never had much need of if that person is attempting to pressure me into something I feel is wrong or don't want to do. Well, it has been a few since my last blog so it is time to post another to let people know where I am. It has been over 3 months since my operation and my shoulder is healing slowly but it is. I have been getting sharp pains from the dumbest things but that is life.
