BLBH16's SparkPeople Blog BLBH16's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community How can I add more protein to my diet? I always seem to be low the recommended amount of protein. It is a struggle to find ways to increase the protein without going over on the calorie side. For a long time I was fixing a protein drink for breakfast every day that had 26 grams of protein in it - Muscle Milk brand but I have not had it for a week now and cannot get the needed protein. Even with the Muscle Milk I would be low on the protein side. I just do not know what to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Be... Sat, 26 Jan 2013 13:32:49 EST I'm back... My last blog post was almost 2 years ago. I was excited about starting the Perfect Workout system gym. Well, I did and still go there. I have firmed up but still have not lost weight. In fact I have gained about 5 pounds. Some may be increased muscles and some due to my doctor taking me off the mild diuretic I had been taking. So now, with another New Year approaching I have decided to start Sparking again.

I must be the most disorganized person ever. I know what I need t... Sat, 29 Dec 2012 20:25:20 EST I can't wait till January 21st! I'm so excited 224 I just made an appointment to try a new workout system that has just opened a salon near my home. It is the slow weight training method of building strength and muscles. The appointment is for a One on One Personal Seminar to teach you about the system. You will experience the slow-motion strength training in 5 different exercises. I have a treadmill, an elliptical machine, and weights upstairs but never seem to get around to using them. I do Pilates for 50 ... Sat, 15 Jan 2011 17:41:30 EST Lose 15.5 pounds Another reason to drink your water! I just read about a study from Virginia Tech University in Prevention Magazine that said, "15.5 = the number of pounds that dieters lost over 3 months when they drank 2 cups of water BEFORE meals, a 44% increase in weight loss, compared with those who didn't. Kicking off a meal with water shrinks your appetite, so you consume fewer calorie, say researchers."

194 194 BEFORE each meal works 91
Mon, 29 Nov 2010 12:57:27 EST I cannot believe I did it. We are having left overs for dinner tonight and I was browsing in the fridge to see what was there when I spotted about 1/2 cup of pasta sauce in a small bowl. I took it out, popped it in the microwave and heated it up. A minute or so later I caught myself sitting on the coffee table watching TV and eating it. All of a sudden I thought, "What the heck am I doing?" Eating without thinking and not really liking it 39 It just happened and I cannot believe that I did it. When it... Fri, 19 Nov 2010 20:14:09 EST I'm getting discouraged My three month's anniversary with SP is approaching and I have lost a measly 2 pounds. Every day I start our well but by the end of the day I have gone off the path. My original goal in August was to lose 10 pounds by January. I definitely am not going to be able to meet that goal and I am so disappointed in myself. Like diets I tried before, I start out well and then fizzle out after a couple of weeks. Or we go on a trip and I eat too much. Or I don't exercise like I promise myself I w... Sun, 14 Nov 2010 13:13:16 EST Does your body like a certain weight? Since I started SP in August I've lost 2 pounds, gained 4 and now am back to my original weight so in essence I'm really starting over. I do feel empowered because this past week I have started working on developing a habit of exercise. So far I have done very well and I'm proud of myself. 224 Now I need to tackle the eating. I stay pretty much in line with the calories but probably not the right foods so this week I will also try to do better on my diet. I think then my weight... Sun, 31 Oct 2010 17:07:31 EST Week two will be better Today I started week two of my promise to make exercising a habit by doing it 3 times a week for 6 weeks. Originally I was going to do it for 10 minutes 3 times a week. Since that was so easy to do I decided to do it for 15-20 minutes 3 times a week. This is always in addition to my two 50 minute Pilates classes. Today I walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes 315 Sun, 31 Oct 2010 16:56:52 EST One week down.. After I post this I am going upstairs and do my strength training. It will be the third time this week I have done either walking or strength training in addition to my two Pilates sessions. My goal is to do this for six weeks to hopefully make it a habit. I've walked two days so today is weights 23 Sat, 30 Oct 2010 17:35:56 EST Twice this week 424 I committed to walk or do strength training 3 times a week in addition to my 2 Pilates classes. Yesterday I did the second walk 224 Tonight we are having dinner guests and I have not found time to exercise yet but it's OK because I can do it tomorrow. I want to plan a strength training routine through SP Fitness information. I am feeling in control 252 Fri, 29 Oct 2010 19:11:44 EST I did it today! 249 This was the first day of my new habit... I did Pilates yesterday for 50 minutes, and today walked on the treadmill 231 for 12 minutes (that's 2 more than I promised!). So now I just have to walk at least 10 minutes twice more this week to honor my commitment 41 . I can do it, one day at a time! Tue, 26 Oct 2010 19:27:12 EST My new habit -- I hope... I am having trouble getting in my exercise 39 I always seem to put it off and then forget about it or don't have time to do it. I go to a Pilates class twice a week 104 so get 100 minutes of good hard exercise then but can't seem to get going other days. I have decided to try something new that I will call "Ten Minutes at a Time". I will walk on the treadmill, walk outside, or do a strength training exercise for 10 minutes at least three other days a week. I'm hopin... Mon, 25 Oct 2010 17:37:38 EST I think Ive got it! Ever since I started Sparking I have had a hard time drinking 8 glasses of water a day. I would start out great in the morning and then forget about it and just have some water at meals OR I would force myself to drink several glasses late in the afternoon. That meant I either was not getting in all the water OR I was up several times at night going to the bathroom because I had drunk so much so late 234

Yesterday I remembered that I had bought a bottle for water that h... Fri, 8 Oct 2010 19:07:10 EST I slipped a little but I'm back on track... We just returned home from two weeks visiting our daughter and son-in-law in New Mexico for 8 days, my sister and husband in Sedona, and 4 days of driving (2 each way). Meals at our daughter's were catch as catch can with no thought beforehand about what to have. That girl is so busy between taking care of her horses and working she hardly has time to sit down. Needless to say it was impossible to follow SP meal plan and the scale shows an upward tick 39 It was also difficult to... Wed, 6 Oct 2010 11:28:35 EST I was surprised... 30 I was happily surprised when I stepped on the scale this morning because it says I have lost a pound since Monday - 6 days. I've been drinking a protein drink every day this week and have also added to my exercise. Hmmm I wonder if that has anything to do with it? I know I should not be so focused on the scale but whenever it shows a downward movement it motivates me more and more so I will keep it up. 334

315 Sun, 19 Sep 2010 15:27:57 EST Today has been great! Today has been so much fun 30 We moved into our house two months ago and today was the first time I have had friends over. My ladies group met here this morning. I decided volunteer to have the meeting here because I knew it would give me a shove to get more unpacking and "settling in" done. We had started to become comfortable with what we had unpacked so far and almost stopped unpacking 39
So anyway, I got the dining room table cleaned off, put on a tablecloth ... Thu, 16 Sep 2010 18:31:04 EST It's a relief to get it over... I had my stress echo-cardiogram yesterday afternoon and the doctor said my results were normal 224 First they did an echo at my resting heart rate and then, with all kinds of leads attached to my chest, I got on a treadmill and first walked slowly at a steep incline and then they kept increasing the speed until my heart rate got up to about 120 and I was really out of breath. Then I laid down again and they did another echo while my heart was beating really fast. It was not a ple... Sat, 11 Sep 2010 13:00:29 EST Why does life get in the way of weight loss? I started SP about August 23rd and did really well for the first week, had lost almost a pound and then from about August 29 until Labor Day it was one party after another or another dinner, lunch, or even breakfast out, and I ended up gaining a couple of pounds. Now today after 4 days on the program I am down almost a pound. I'm not going to enter a new weight until Sunday when it will be a week since I really started following the program. Then next week on Wednesday we are going on a tr... Fri, 10 Sep 2010 14:51:39 EST I'm worried about tomorrow... I'm worried about a doctor's appointment I have tomorrow. It is for a Stress Echo. I had a more comprehensive stress test about 5 years ago and I hated it. I'm not really worried about the results because I had had many just plain Echocardiograms and they haven't shown changes but I'm still afraid. Anyway, I'll report my results tomorrow. Hopefully they'll give me a preliminary result right after the test. 39 Thu, 9 Sep 2010 13:33:17 EST I finally did it... I finally went for a walk today after telling myself I needed to do it for months. I joined a friend who walks regularly and walked with her for over an hour. I was surprised to learn that I could keep up with her pretty well although I had to stop to get my breath when we were walking up a lot of stairs. We walked along from the parking lot until we came to some stairs leading down to the beach and a path next to the ocean, then along the path until we came to the stairs that led back up.... Sat, 4 Sep 2010 16:45:46 EST Pilates starts tomorrow! My Pilates class starts up again tomorrow! I'm so glad because I have not exercised since they stopped for summer in mid July. We also moved in mid July so I have been very busy unpacking and getting settled and have not done my exercises. We still have a lot of unpacking to do but at least I will do my Pilates. The class meets twice a week for an hour.

I've let it happen over and over -- not taking time for myself 234 Not making time for ME 39 That is on... Sun, 22 Aug 2010 16:49:43 EST I'm glad we went for frozen yogurt yesterday even though it was cheating! We went to get frozen yogurt yesterday and were eating it at a table outside. I looked up and saw a really tall black man across the way and thought it looked like Magic Johnson. As a big LA Laker fan, it was so exciting 198 because Magic is the reason I started watching basketball. After finishing our yogurt we walked toward Magic on our way to the car and talked briefly with him and his wife! It made my day and I am so glad I cheated 30 Sun, 22 Aug 2010 15:35:39 EST
