BLAKKBIRD's SparkPeople Blog BLAKKBIRD's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Busy day I had a fun tennis lesson at noon, went running this afternoon (sprints) and then my favorite activity, swimming "lesson" with my 5 month old daughter.

Tue, 16 Sep 2014 18:05:15 EST Tennis I signed up for tennis lessons! I've never played tennis before so I'm excited to try it out.
The plan is to run every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and tennis lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the next few weeks.

260 Mon, 8 Sep 2014 18:07:52 EST Let's do this again So much has happened in the last 2 years or so. Most importantly, I'm a mom to a 5 month old baby girl named Emma. She was born on April Fools' Day :)
She's a wonderful baby and I couldn't be happier. I'm on maternity leave and I'm not going back to work until next year.
I didn't gain much weight during my pregnancy and today I'm the same weight as I was before I got pregnant. However, I would like to get in shape! I want to start running again, lose weight and set some goals. So, ... Sun, 7 Sep 2014 13:34:14 EST 2013 - Goal New year. Same goal. :)
To be able to run a 5k in less than 30 minutes. This year I'm gonna make it happen. Hopefully as early as this summer. I've started training

again after taking some time off and my current form is terrible!
I plan to do at least two races. The annual Midnight Run, a 5k race in June (this will be my 3rd time) and a 10k race in August. I'm sure I

will sign up to do more as soon as this year's race schedule becomes clearer. I prefer to r... Wed, 9 Jan 2013 16:57:02 EST September is gone After a long week I finally have my wonderful and supportive boyfriend back from San Francisco. I always do better with my food and exercise when he's around. He motivates me.
The cold I had for over 2 weeks destroyed my September plans but even though I didn't lose any weight in September I didn't gain any weight either. So I figure as long as I continue to log on to SparkPeople I think I'll be fine. That means I need to spin that wheel, answer the trivia questions and check up on my s... Sun, 7 Oct 2012 16:19:16 EST Cold I have a cold. My second cold in two months. Ugh. Yesterday was awful but I'm feeling better today and I plan to go out for a run on Saturday.
My boyfriend is leaving for London tomorrow morning for a 10k race on Saturday. I wish I was going with him. I'm going to miss him until he gets back to me on Monday night.
I'm eating healthy which I think is vital if I want to maintain my weight loss. However, I'm not losing at the moment. I need to step up my game a bit if I want to conti... Thu, 13 Sep 2012 17:40:03 EST Two 5k races this week I ran another 5k race this morning. My boyfriend had signed up for a 10k race and since I was going to run this morning I decided to go with him and sign up for the 5k race for fun. We woke up early and had to drive to a small town in the country, about 40 minutes east from where I live. It was rainy and windy but despite the difficult weather conditions the course was very even with no hills and I managed to finish it in 32m:53s which is a new personal best and a 12 seconds improvement from ... Sat, 1 Sep 2012 12:46:20 EST The 5k Race The weather could've been better. It was cold and windy and I stupidly ate only 2 hours before the race and it was difficult with hills... But! I did it in 33:05 which is a personal best. I'm slowly reaching my goal. Sub 30! Hopefully next year? Thu, 30 Aug 2012 17:46:37 EST The 10k! I finished my 10k in 1:08:30. I'm happy with it since this was my first 10k and my longest run ever. The weather was brilliant, the atmosphere was wonderful. So many people and everyone was having fun. I'm going to participate again next year. For sure. A 5k in June and a 10k in August.
My goal now is to improve my 5k time. I want to reach sub 30. I'm down to 33:43.
My boyfriend ran the half marathon in 1:27:33. A personal best for him. He inspires me. Sat, 18 Aug 2012 15:27:59 EST France France is lovely. So very pretty. I'm staying in Savigny-en-Revermont. Went to Baume-les-Messieurs today.

Sun, 22 Jul 2012 15:20:19 EST 10k and France I ran 8.5 kilometers today (>5 miles). My longest run so far. My 10k race will be on August 18th so I'm confident that I will be able to finish it. I just want to be able to run faster. I haven't set a specific goal for myself yet. It would be awesome if I could finish in less than 70 minutes. Maybe that will be my main goal. Yup.

I'm leaving for France next Saturday with my family. I will be staying in a 200 year old watermill in South Burgundy for a week. Ah, the French countrys... Sun, 15 Jul 2012 13:54:14 EST Hills, sprints and caves Just came back from this week's sprint training. 7x200m sprints with a minutes' rest (walk) between sprints.

This hill is part of my training. Run up and down 7x. Will be 8x next week. And maybe 9x a week later. Hopefully, sprints and hills will increase my endurance and speed.

Hiking last week. Inside a cave. Very pretty. Fri, 6 Jul 2012 14:13:44 EST The Race The race went very well, thank you all for asking!
I am a slow runner and my goal was to run under 35 minutes and I did it in 34:38 so I'm very happy. It was a gorgeous night, the longest day of the year and it's my favorite time of the year as well. My sister ran with me and so many others. This race is very popular and it was a lot of fun and I'm doing it again next year for sure.

<img src="htt... Mon, 25 Jun 2012 16:36:18 EST Plant Based Foods and a 5k Race tomorrow I've been rapidly losing weight and I think it's mostly because I've cut dairy, bread/pasta and sugar from my diet. I eat plant based foods. Lots of veggies and fruits. I drink as much juice as possible. I love my juicer! I'm so happy I bought it, it was such a smart investment. Although, I've been doing good on my diet I haven't exercised as much as I could. I run and I like to ride my bike (I went for 19 mile ride last Sunday to clear my head) but I can and should do better!

My ... Wed, 20 Jun 2012 08:03:05 EST Anniversary Today marks the one year anniversary of the day I quit smoking. I'm the same weight that I was a year ago (maybe a couple of pounds lighter) and even though I gained weight shortly after I quit I did manage to lose it within the year. I'm determined to continue with my weight loss and the fact that I signed up for a 5k in 2 weeks and a 10k in August helps me stay focused. I'm following a training schedule that has me working out 6 days a week. My endurance could be better and I wish I could r... Fri, 8 Jun 2012 05:06:48 EST Appetite, Running My juicing experiment is still going strong and I'm finally losing weight! However, I'm not eating enough although I'm very proud to say that all my choices have been super healthy and nutritious and I haven't touched the bad stuff in a while. Recent and rather unexpected developments in my personal life are to blame for my lack of appetite. I'm feeling anxious but happy. I finished the C25K program so my plan now is to move on to a 10k training program since I signed up for a 10k in August. ... Sat, 26 May 2012 05:46:30 EST Food docs I watched two documentaries about food this past weekend. Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead and Hungry for Change. I highly recommend both. The former is about a man named Joe who suffers from a rare medical condition and goes on a 60 day juice fast while traveling across the USA in an attempt to regain his health. He talks to a lot of people on the way about his mission, food and health issues. Then he meets a morbidly obese man, Phil, at a truck stop in Arizona and they quickly discover they suffer f... Mon, 14 May 2012 08:06:43 EST Bicycle and Juicer! I took my bicycle out for a spin for the first time this year (what the hell have I been doing?). It's been raining non stop today so I was soaking wet when I got back home from an hour bike ride and it was super refreshing!
I bought a juicer (I love getting new kitchen appliances!) and I want to do a little experiment with my diet this month. I'm going to eat one cooked meal (dinner) everyday but make fruit/veggie juices for breakfast and lunch and have fruits/veggies for snacks. I wan... Sat, 12 May 2012 14:15:08 EST No energy left Today has been exhausting. Five meetings in one day and a whole lot of planning, stressing and talking. I was going to do W5D3 and run for 20 min straight but I couldn't. My hip was acting up so I had to slow down and walk a couple of times but I finished and that's what's important. I'm turning in early tonight. Hopefully tomorrow I will have more energy. I need it since I have plenty of calories to burn! Tue, 24 Apr 2012 14:43:54 EST 5k in June, 10k in August I just signed up for a 10k in August! I'm so excited to have something to work for. I have a 5k coming up in June but I haven't signed up for it yet but I did ask my sister to do it with me and she said yes so I'm committed to pull through. Now I've committed myself to do the 10k and I'm looking forward to it. It's a challenge I like to think will help me stay on track. I hope it will. I've been eating junk and exercising less this week and need to get back on track. Beginning this evening wh... Fri, 13 Apr 2012 03:35:15 EST Walk The weather this morning was simply beautiful. It's still a bit cold but it was sunny so the warmth from the sun made all the difference. There was no wind and the air felt fresh and clean from all the rain we have had lately. I was going to exercise at home but decided I wasn't in the mood for a rigorous workout session and decided to go for a walk instead and ended up taking an hour long walk and listened to an audiobook on the way.

<img src=" Mon, 9 Apr 2012 10:41:13 EST C25k - Week 3 Day 2 It was cold outside and I forgot my gloves but I made it and took pictures on the way.

Sun, 8 Apr 2012 10:33:30 EST Cake Pops I know I should not post this. So much sugar, so many calories, so very wrong!

Dinner with the family and my cake pops were a big success. They were up against my sister's cake, a serious competitor as you can see! The main course was really good. Indian themed with a healthy vegetarian option. The kids ate the cake pops and so did the grown ups. My sister-in-law wants me to make some for my nephew's bi... Fri, 6 Apr 2012 19:36:28 EST An Unexpected Race I finished C25k's Week 2 yesterday afternoon and when I got home I immediately received a phone call from someone who had found my cat's collar with his name tag and my phone number on it. My cat had lost his collar a few weeks ago but I always keep a spare collar, bell and name tag to put on him when he loses the one he has on. I was hoping I would find this one eventually because I very often do and it's because someone finds it and just casually puts it near my front door (I love this neig... Thu, 5 Apr 2012 07:18:21 EST Emotional eating This week has not been so great. The worst week I've had this year. I've been feeling so lonely and isolated for some reason. I've been doubting myself a lot lately. Doubting my life choices. Not feeling very hopeful at all. Since I am an emotional eater, I spent the last two days eating all the comfort foods that I could get my hands on. It wasn't pretty. It wasn't until today I managed to stop myself. I haven't resolved the cause of my emotional eating binge yet but I did remember to ask my... Fri, 30 Mar 2012 14:23:19 EST Overweight household So I took the cat to the vet yesterday and apparently he is overweight. He's now on a diet. It's portion control for the both of us but I'm definitely exercising more than him. He's the lazy, cuddly type. He doesn't like to go very far when he goes outside. His hunting skills are nonexistent which is awesome. He once brought me a frozen potato and was very proud of himself.

I'm back to doing C25k. I plan to do a 5k race in June and maybe a 10k in August but I haven't decided yet. ... Sat, 24 Mar 2012 13:11:20 EST Standstill

I know it's shark week for me and I feel like an oversized sponge with raging PMS but I'm not seeing any results on the scale and I haven't for weeks. I can't lie, it's frustrating the hell out of me. I have no clue what to do. I suspect it's my calorie intake, I don't know how much to eat! I do cardio everyday for at least 60 minutes (pure intense cardio, HIIT and Tabata style) and strength training three times a... Sat, 17 Mar 2012 05:26:24 EST Strange week This week has been strangely emotional for me. I found out last Monday that someone I went to university with was recently diagnosed with cancer for the second time in two years. It's stage 4 and it looks pretty grim. She's only 36 years old. She's full of life and leads a very active and healthy life. She is just a very good and positive person. The news knocked the wind out of me for some reason. I guess I didn't realize how much I cared for this person and how motivating she was to me even... Thu, 15 Mar 2012 16:28:11 EST India
Friday over a week ago I had Indian food with my co workers. The food was above average taste-wise at least for a fast food joint but I'm pretty sure it was super fatty and high in calories. My mom came back from India last week and brought spices with her and gave me some. I can't wait to use them. Last night I went out to dinner with my family at an upscale Indian restaurant and the food was excellent. Not sure if the ... Sat, 10 Mar 2012 05:58:55 EST Wake up, wake up! "It's time to get EXTREME baby!"

That's how my day started. No, it was not my significant other. I don't have a significant other. Actually, that line would be weird if I did. It was not the cat. He's the master of the house. It was Chalene Johnson yelling at me on my TV waking up my muscles before I even knew what the hell was going on. I don't know how I made it through the session but it woke me up. I even managed to shower and get dressed and make a protein shake. It was so cre... Wed, 7 Mar 2012 09:21:18 EST Mornings So this week I'm going to challenge myself. I'm going to drag myself out of bed at 6am and work out for an hour before I go to work. No snooze button, no excuses, no mercy.
I managed to follow through this morning. Being semiconscious when I started my workout and not realizing fully what I was about to do helped I think. I'm not gonna lie, I have no idea if I will be able to do this after this week but we´ll see. My plan for this week is to do Chalean Extreme in the mornings (when sche... Mon, 5 Mar 2012 16:28:23 EST Got Motivation? Oh hello stress related back pain! I'm better this morning though, compare to how I was late last night. I'm hopeful the pain will go away soon. It usually does.

I was digging up stuff on this site to help me with my guilt and motivation issues and I struck gold when I came across this six year old gem from Coach Dean (

oard.asp?imboard=31&imparent=1323239
). What a brilliant post. Something I really needed to read. This week h... Fri, 2 Mar 2012 04:28:01 EST Conflict I was having a rough day yesterday both physically and emotionally. I was feeling tired and my body was telling me to rest and I did even though yesterday wasn't a scheduled rest day. I ate stuff I shouldn't have but I know that and I need to move on. I went to bed at 9pm so I got 8 hours of sleep and my body feels so much better this morning but I also feel guilty for not having exercised yesterday. Those conflicting feelings can be so strange and exhausting. It can take up a lot of time and... Wed, 29 Feb 2012 03:28:37 EST Weigh-in Day I had a really good week. I lost 1.2 kg (2.5 lbs)!
I'm delighted and this gives me the boost I needed. I'm back to where I was in March last year which means I have lost the weight I gained when I quit smoking over 8 months ago. 244 This shows that hard work pays off. I was feeling so tired earlier this week and even discouraged but I managed to get some much needed rest on Thursday.
I have to schedule Friday as my rest day next week since I will be spending the evening... Sat, 25 Feb 2012 06:00:09 EST Need to sleep My ankles are really swollen at the moment.

I didn't sleep well last night and I was really tired all day at work. I barely made it through my cardio earlier but I pushed through it and I'm glad I did.

I plan to start ChaLEAN Extreme tomorrow. I wonder if I should invest in heavier weights for this. Weights are expensive so I'm not sure. But I'm excited about doing this program.

I don't know what to say. I'm just tired, tired, tired. I'm going to bed early... Tue, 21 Feb 2012 16:54:58 EST Not a fan of Muffin Tops I bought a new scale this week, the old one was... old and gray and possibly untrustworthy. That may sound like I bought a new scale because the old one was simply stating the fact that I wasn't losing any weight and that drove me crazy. But no, the old one was suspiciously too kind the second week I stepped on it but to be honest, I just wanted a new scale and I wanted it to be white. So there.

The number this week on my new scale compared to last week's number on my old scale do... Sun, 19 Feb 2012 15:00:47 EST Progress Feeling exhausted after a workout but it's a good feeling of exhaustion. Stress free and spent. I'm noticing an increase in my endurance every day which is a good indicator that I'm pushing myself and doing something right. I just have to be careful not to overtrain and burn out. But I do like to get in at least 90 minutes of exercise 6 days a week. It doesn't have to be cardio and strength training, it can also be yoga and pilates.
I need to work on my sleep and I have to stop eating s... Mon, 13 Feb 2012 16:56:23 EST Wait, what? I was going to weigh myself every Saturday from now on although I had my first weigh in last Tuesday. So this morning I stepped on the scale and... I've lost 1.8 kilograms (4 lbs) since Tuesday. Yeah, I don't think so. The scale is totally screwing with me. I think I'm going to wait a week to get a more accurate read on my progress before I get too excited! Sat, 11 Feb 2012 06:54:45 EST Hello world For a computer programmer I believe Hello world is the most proper way to start of this new blog.

I have managed to set up my new spiffy SparkPage! My next mission is to create my visual motivation collage. I think that is one of the most important tools to have on my weight loss journey. Another item on my to-do list is to visit the message board more frequently than I have in the past.

But first, I should eat breakfast and get ready for work. Fri, 10 Feb 2012 03:46:47 EST
