Unable to do but little exercise, my weight increased to 191.5, as of 1/118. I had enough of that so, I sat down and figured a challenge that very few could accomplish. I phrased it, "The Making the Impossible, Possible Challenge".
And here it is: by 12/31/2018: weigh 145lbs; waist 28; and a fat percentage of 8.

I'm soon to be 73 years old and have never, ever attained those standards. This year I have de... Sat, 27 Jan 2018 08:43:58 EST Interesting So, do you want to cycle a bit faster? If so, what can you add to your bike that would make you go approximately 2 miles per hour faster? I did a test beginning last Saturday. I cycled a relatively flat, but windy course with my daily training wheels. My average per mile was 14.4. Today I ran the same flat, yet windy course. One big difference.....I took off the training wheels and substituted some light aero wheels (Zipp 303's). Results: 16.4 MPH. Considering that I'm still recovering from a... Sat, 13 May 2017 17:08:00 EST Crashed and Burned Was on the tail end of my Sunday ride when suddenly gravel popped up and threw me hard on the ground. Eventually, had to pedal home with one leg. The other leg was useless. Will be out for a while. Wed, 29 Mar 2017 23:15:38 EST I Can't Believe It It's the 8th of the month and I have logged more than half of what the Cycling Team has logged. While I realize that many of you are having weather challenges, many of you are able to cycle year-round, but choose not to or are just not posting it. Surely, we as a Team can do better. Let's get with the program and get on that All-American saddle and make Momma proud. HOOAAA!! Wed, 8 Mar 2017 22:54:46 EST The Month of August Overall, August was an awesome month for me. First off, my cycling was pretty active and culminated with the "Hotter than Hell 100" bike ride. I did the latter at a 17.2 MPH avg. Considering the heat, that's a pretty darned good time for an old beat-up 71 year old. Secondly, my puppy continued to progress in his initial stages of agility training. My other agility dog is into his 2nd year of agility competition and doing real well. On my return trip home from the bike ride, I had an opportuni... Fri, 2 Sep 2016 18:00:46 EST Update Boy it's been a while since I wrote a blog. Life has been hectic, but exciting. Have maintained my cycling, in spite of the high South Texas temperatures. Have been able to orchestrate the training of two dogs in both obedience and agility. As a matter of fact, my older dog (going on 4 years) will be competing this month. The puppy won't be ready until July 2017. By that time, he should be more than ready to kick some serious butt. Home life is super. My gorgeous Cuchi-Cuchi is enjoying her w... Tue, 2 Aug 2016 06:00:40 EST Day #89 Been awfully busy lately working out and fine tuning my dog's agility training in preparation for the past weekend's agility competition. I've hung tough with the exercise regimen and almost as well with the nutrition. The agility competition was terrific. We came in first in 5 events and moved up in 2 categories. I was so proud of my dog. He performed really well. Now, we continue to fine tune and get ready for another agility trial in 4 weeks. On the cycling side, I need to start doing some... Mon, 4 Apr 2016 07:40:37 EST Day #77 All is going well. My dog training is paying off as my puppy is doing brilliantly while attending class. We were the new kids on the block when we joined back in November. Now we are almost leading the pack. My exercise routine continues and my nutritional input is progressing nicely. So, we are focused and on the home stretch of our 100-day challenge. HOOAAA!! Wed, 23 Mar 2016 05:46:12 EST Day #71 All continues to be well on the home front. Did my 4+ hours of exercise, closely followed by a nap with my dogs. The nutrition was within the acceptable and I had a caloric deficit. So, all is good and I continue to stay focused on the target. HOOAAA!! Thu, 17 Mar 2016 06:37:04 EST Day #70 All went as expected yesterday. Did the walking, lifting and cycling for 4+ hours of exercise. Of course, I did take in my afternoon nap. Boy, that does rejuvenate my body. I wake up feeling pretty darned good. On the nutrition side, I was "Spot On", with a caloric deficit. So, I'm really but really proud of myself and my humble accomplishments. Now to continue with success. HOOAAA!! Wed, 16 Mar 2016 06:21:14 EST Day #69 It was a great weekend and a super Monday. We are maintaining our focus and driving hard towards our goal. Yesterday we did over 200 minutes of exercise (walking, lifting cycling, and agility class). Felt just great to get under that almighty shower. The feeling of having physically challenged my body was unexplainable. I believe that after 69 days, it's part of my daily routine. HOOAAA!! Tue, 15 Mar 2016 06:22:51 EST Day #68 Saturdays and Sundays I give the lifting a break and concentrate on training/walking my dogs and doing a long bike ride. The plan for the latter was to do 40 miles. The doggie part went well, but the cycling was better than well. I felt really good and ended up doing 53+ miles. I finished up strong and after the shower, I looked at the scale.....down 2lbs. Very happy with the results. While I realize that the weight loss was mainly water loss, 2lbs is still 2lbs. I'll take it to the bank ever... Sun, 13 Mar 2016 07:33:44 EST Day #67 It was indeed an active day. Racked up over 5 hours of exercise (walking, cycling, lifting, dog training). In addition, was a real good boy on the nutritional side. The result: dropped one more pound to 167. Just going backwards in time, 25+ years. Hanging real tough. Pretty soon, we're going to have to invest in a pretty new wardrobe. Will be going from 38 inch to 33 inch waist pretty soon. There's no telling where all of this will lead to, if I continue on the current trend. Guess hard work... Sat, 12 Mar 2016 07:50:28 EST Day #66 Where there's a will, there is a way. In spite of the rain, we were able to do the outside activities. Just a matter of timing it just right and not minding a bit a wetness. So, we were back to our 3+ hours of exercise. Just love it when you can arrange for things to go exactly as you want them to. HOOAAA!! Fri, 11 Mar 2016 06:19:38 EST Day #66 The weather is just not cooperating. Lots of wind and rain is causing a halt to the cycling. Puppy training has been done indoors. The only daily exercise that hasn't suffered is the lifting. While we need the water, I just wish tat it would pour in the evening and clear out during the day (Wishful thinking). I guess that we'll survive and later be complaining about the lack of rain. Go figure. HOOAAA!! Thu, 10 Mar 2016 06:25:00 EST Day #65 The weekend was incredible. Not only did I do the normal (walk/train dogs and ride bike), but my Honey and I went to our favorite Mexican restaurant and ate a bit, but danced bunches. What a great time. On Monday, however, I woke up with some sort of stomach virus that put me in bed and Le Toilette for most of the day. Today, I thought I was OK and did my normal routine. When I finished, I felt down and pout. So, I'm gonna take it easy until my "Bod" tells me that all is OK. HOOAAA!! Tue, 8 Mar 2016 17:16:52 EST Day #60 It was indeed a historical day for me yesterday. We dipped into the 160's for the first time in 23+ years. Makes me happy for that accomplishment. But, now forward to more challenges. For March we hope to dip into the mid 160's. So, the challenge is up and hopefully, we'll be up to it. The question is: How bad do I really want it?? The answer is: Real Bad. HOOAAA!! Thu, 3 Mar 2016 06:37:36 EST Day #59 About 3 years ago my wife bought me a pair of shorts, size 34. She did it in an attempt at getting me to go from a 36 to a 34. Well, it took 3 years, but I finally am able to wear those "big boys". Proudly, I put them on and showed it to my Cuchi-Cuchi . She was impressed. So impressed that she went out and bought me 2 pair of jeans size........"32". So, now I'm gonna conquer that challenge. Hopefully, it won't take me 3+ years to get there. HOOAAA!! Wed, 2 Mar 2016 07:28:53 EST Day #58 We ended the month nicely, having done our now customary routine (walking training, lifting and cycling) for 4+ hours. Overall, February was a great month. We maintained our focus and met most of our lofty goals. I certainly hope that March turns out as successful. HOOAAA!! Tue, 1 Mar 2016 06:38:39 EST Day #57 Had a wonderful weekend. Spent some quality time with my Honey, trained my dog, walked my dogs, did some cycling, and attended a super 50th wedding anniversary celebration. At the latter, I had some Incredible time rib of beef. The chef asked how many fingers I wanted and I replied "2". What a chunk of meat. Enjoyed it thoroughly. HOOAAA!! Mon, 29 Feb 2016 22:51:18 EST Day #55 We survived another challenging week. We capped off the week with 4+ hours of exercise (walking, training, lifting, and cycling). I was tired, but happy to have done it. Took a nice half hour nap and woke up almost new again. Today we'll skip the lifting, but hopefully ride long. All is good as we finish off the month of February with a bang. HOOAAA!! Sat, 27 Feb 2016 06:12:52 EST Day #54 I frankly don't know what I did, but yesterday's bike ride sure felt good. In spite of some hefty winds, we kicked butt. The cadence was up. The heart beat was up. The watts were up and the speed was way up. All told, between the walk, the training, the lifting, and the cycling, we did 3.5 hours plus of exercise. Sock it to me, Baby. I might just make that lofty weight goal by the end of the month. HOOAAA!! Fri, 26 Feb 2016 06:09:29 EST Day #53 The wind continues to challenge, but we prevailed and did our normal daily routine of: walking, training, cycling, and lifting. The training part is going real well. The puppy is reacting favorable and appears to enjoy conquering the obstacles. On the nutritional front, have to get really disciplined in order to meet our end of month goal. Have to take it easy on the mixed nuts and watch the portions. Shouldn't be much of a problem. HOOAAA!! Thu, 25 Feb 2016 06:19:42 EST Day #52 In spite of the tough winds, we had a great day. We walked, trained, lifted and cycled for a total of over 3 hrs. We appear to be in cruise control as the workouts are now part of our must-do daily routines. I love it. HOOAAA!! Wed, 24 Feb 2016 06:26:56 EST Day #51 Well, after all of that steak eating, it's back to serious work. We walked, cycled and trained the puppy. Additionally, we had our Monday evening class. What I like about the class is that we always come out with a movement that we need to tweak. So, we have something to add to our "to fix" repertoire. The focus is good and we're on the home stretch to meeting our monthly weight goal. HOOAAA!! Tue, 23 Feb 2016 06:36:46 EST Day #50 Had a super b'day weekend. The gang was all there to enjoy with me. Went a bit over board with the food, but what the heck, when a nice and thick Ribeye Prime steak is put in front of you, one must enjoy. Overall, the wife (as usual) went out of her way to make my day special. I'm telling you, "She's a Keepa". HOOAAA!! Mon, 22 Feb 2016 19:37:41 EST Day #48 The weekend has arrived and I'm ready for it. Should be a real challenge. We start off with a 20's b'day party tonight and my b'day celebration tomorrow. There's potential for disaster. But, like the book that I'm reading says, "How Bad Do You Want It". HOOAAA!! Sat, 20 Feb 2016 06:31:26 EST Day #47 Overall, it was a great day. Did my normal exercises (walk/lift/cycle) and trained the pooch. We began a new agility program that is supposed to put us into the next level of competition. For what I paid, it should put us No. 1 in the world (LOL). On the nutritional side, we went up slightly, but significantly lower than the recommended calories. I looked into the mirror and saw a six-pack an,d some mighty large guns. Going to have to hire some security folks to keep the women away while at t... Fri, 19 Feb 2016 06:24:45 EST Day #46 "We are cooking with grease". All systems were on yesterday. We walked, lifted, trained, and cycled. 3+ hours of cardio. Feeling mighty good. Would you believe that my 34-inch shorts are starting to feel loose? I guess it's part of the payoff for busting butt. What's super is that I've maintained a caloric deficit almost daily. I'm staying focused and working hard. HOOAAA!! Thu, 18 Feb 2016 06:19:48 EST Day #45 So, I didn't feel like exercising yesterday and vowed to work through it. And through it I did. Exercised for over 3 hours (walk, lift, cycle) and more importantly, had a large caloric deficit. So, I'm back ready, willing and able to continue on my journey towards a healthier me. HOOAAA!! Wed, 17 Feb 2016 06:22:48 EST Day #44 Ever have a day where you just don't want to do anything?? That's just where I a right now. The only way that I know to overcome this feeling is to work right through it. And that'd exactly what I'm doing right now. Too often I've allowed myself to just slide off the goal and have to start over again. Well, I am just not going to allow that. Just for the hell of it, I'm going to work super extra hard to regain the drive and focus. HOOAAA!! Tue, 16 Feb 2016 06:16:09 EST Day #43 Yesterday was an off day for dog training and cycling. So, we just limited the exercise to a long dog walk. However, Valentine's Day crept in with its chocolate challenges that I thoroughly lost. But, we're back into the program today, ready for the final 2 weeks of the month. The goal is under 170lbs and with a bit of focus, we should be there. HOOAAA!! Mon, 15 Feb 2016 06:23:10 EST Day #41 It was a very nice day. The temperatures climbed into the 70's so, the weather was ideal for a nice bike ride. Also walked/trained the dogs and lifted. Felt nice and rested after having skipped the bike ride on Thursday. Looking forward to today's long ride. HOOAAA!! Sat, 13 Feb 2016 06:41:48 EST Day #40 Yesterday was a tough day. Prior to walking the dogs, I did some house cleaning (washing, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, toilet cleaning, and dusting). After walking the dogs and doing some agility training, I was beat and didn't do my cycling nor my lifting. Considering the hours I've put into my exercises, I will not beat myself up, but rather continue on today. HOOAAA!! Fri, 12 Feb 2016 06:13:32 EST Day #39 Yesterday was another great day. Exercised for 4+ hours and did some stuff around the house. After all that exercise, I sure slept like a toddler. This has been a great run so far. I've maintained the exercise regimen, but more importantly, maintained healthy nutritional habits. Last time I was this healthy was over 24 years ago. Hard work surely pays off. HOOAAA!! Thu, 11 Feb 2016 05:26:35 EST Day #38 Who loves you, Baby?? After dropping another pound, I love me very much. Did my 3+ hours of exercise, including, walk/cycle/train the dogs/lift. It just gets better and better. What an incredible year this is starting to be. And by the way, I dropped another pound. As I look in the mirror, I'm starting to see the formation of a six-pack. At early 71 years young, that's not supposed to happen. But, happening it is. And by the way, I dropped another pound (LOL). HOOAAA!! Wed, 10 Feb 2016 06:16:19 EST Day #37 It was indeed another wonderful day. We trained the pooch 3X plus attended the weekly Monday evening class. He sure was sharp last night. We walked both dogs for 2.6 miles, lifted for 40+ minutes and cycled for 2+ hours. Not a bad day of exercise. On the nutritional side, we stayed under the caloric guidelines. If all days were like that, I'd be one helluva happy camper. HOOAAA!! Tue, 9 Feb 2016 06:17:01 EST Day #36 It was an exciting weekend. It started Friday with the dog agility competition and the latter ended yesterday. I am so very proud of my Aussie dog. In spite of my many handling blunders, he performed brilliantly. We entered 9 events and we finished: 1st 3 times, 2nd 2 times, and 3d 2 times. In only 2 events did we not place and that was because of my blunders. I hope to patch those up so that next competition, we do even better. Next competition won't be until early April so, we have time to... Mon, 8 Feb 2016 06:33:01 EST Day #33 We are doing so good. I can't recall going this long without a major collapse. Yesterday we did what we've been doing, walking/training/cycling. It's been an average of 3+ hours of exercise. This, of course, affords me the extra calories that the body needs to repair and recover. This weekend will be a big test because the doggie and I will be in a three day agility competition that ends this Sunday. This means that the exercise will be limited to some walking. The temptations will be there t... Fri, 5 Feb 2016 06:08:12 EST Day #32 We are "cooking with grease". It was an incredible day yesterday. Not only did I cycle, walk, and train my dogs, I also swept/vacuumed?mopped/washed/clean bathrooms. Very proud of myself. To top it all off, I stayed under my caloric goals. HOOAAA!! Thu, 4 Feb 2016 06:52:13 EST Day #31 It had been a while but, after my exercises, I mowed/fertilized/ killed some weeds. Frankly, it was invigorating. As result, my nap was a bit longer. It was a good day. HOOAAA!! Wed, 3 Feb 2016 06:48:50 EST Day #30 It was a good day. Walked, trained, and cycled. Getting ready for this weekend's dog agility competition.Hoping to pick up some ribbons. On the nutritional side, all went well. I went under my nutritional goal. All systems appear to be under control. It's gonna be a great month. I can feel it. HOOAAA!! Tue, 2 Feb 2016 06:19:49 EST Day #29 Well, January is over and have to award myself the "Sticking With It" commendation. I was 95% with the program. Lost inches and weight, but most importantly, kept the focus. For February, we want to keep up the motivation and seek to be healthier. HOOAAA!! Mon, 1 Feb 2016 08:04:56 EST Day #28 It's been 4 weeks since I started this craziness and am really doing very well. Yesterday was a great day. The day ended up being in the 70's and all was just right. I've been slowly but surely adding some jogging to my walks. Yesterday it was half walk and half jog. And when I say jog, trust me, it's real slow. Nonetheless, it's the first time in many years that I've done any type of jogging. At one time I was an avid runner, but my knees just couldn't take it. Now, I'm being careful and it... Sun, 31 Jan 2016 06:39:05 EST Day #27 Sock it to me Baby!! All systems were go yesterday. I even dropped another pound (171). One more pound lost and I will be going back in times to '92. At that time I was a trim, good-looking Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, wearing a Green Beret. While I won't be wearing my beret, it sure will feel good to be where I once was.
Anyway, we exercised vigorously yesterday with a nice 46-minute walk/jog, almost 2-hour bike ride, 45-minute lift session, and 20+ minutes of training my agility do... Sat, 30 Jan 2016 06:36:56 EST Day #26 Another great day under my belt. Did my daily exercises (walk, bike. lift) and was careful with my intake. Result was another day of caloric deficit. I guess that after a while, like exercise, nutrition becomes a habit. Sure makes life easier and healthier. HOOAAA!! Fri, 29 Jan 2016 06:28:40 EST Day #25 It was indeed a good day, in spite of the cold and the wind. I changed a little bit of my walking routine by jogging some of the time. First time jogging in a long time. Hope to continue to expand the jogging time. Anyway, the dogs and I walked and trained, I lifted some weights, and did my cycling. I noticed that my Aussie wanted a fourth training session so, we went out and did it without the chicken. I guess my going overboard with the praises is encouraging him. Anyway, it was a great day... Thu, 28 Jan 2016 06:26:48 EST Day #24 It was a limited day due to the constant rain. However, in spite of the rain, I still cycled for 1+ hours, walked the dogs, and trained the dog. Nutritionally, I did well and the weight lifting went as scheduled. Overall, a good day. HOOAAA!! Wed, 27 Jan 2016 06:42:09 EST Day #23 It was another great day. Walked, lifted, rode my bike, and told my Honey that I loved her. Does it get any better? The day was beautiful, so I went for all the marbles. Exercised for 3+ hours and ate smartly. The dog and I went to our weekly agility class and were totally humbled. We have been into agility for 2 years and the folks that train with us have been at it for 5+ years. But, I have vowed to be at their level before the end of this year. My competitive juices are flowing. HOOAAA!! Tue, 26 Jan 2016 05:58:58 EST Day #22 Yesterday was a slack day and boy did I ever abuse myself. Way too many chocolate chip cookies. Anyway, I owed myself a bit of a break. Today we're back on course and ready for some challenging exercising. HOOAAA!! Mon, 25 Jan 2016 07:53:17 EST
