BILL60's SparkPeople Blog BILL60's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Day #39 Yesterday was another great day. Exercised for 4+ hours and did some stuff around the house. After all that exercise, I sure slept like a toddler. This has been a great run so far. I've maintained the exercise regimen, but more importantly, maintained healthy nutritional habits. Last time I was this healthy was over 24 years ago. Hard work surely pays off. HOOAAA!! Thu, 11 Feb 2016 05:26:35 EST Day #38 Who loves you, Baby?? After dropping another pound, I love me very much. Did my 3+ hours of exercise, including, walk/cycle/train the dogs/lift. It just gets better and better. What an incredible year this is starting to be. And by the way, I dropped another pound. As I look in the mirror, I'm starting to see the formation of a six-pack. At early 71 years young, that's not supposed to happen. But, happening it is. And by the way, I dropped another pound (LOL). HOOAAA!! Wed, 10 Feb 2016 06:16:19 EST Day #37 It was indeed another wonderful day. We trained the pooch 3X plus attended the weekly Monday evening class. He sure was sharp last night. We walked both dogs for 2.6 miles, lifted for 40+ minutes and cycled for 2+ hours. Not a bad day of exercise. On the nutritional side, we stayed under the caloric guidelines. If all days were like that, I'd be one helluva happy camper. HOOAAA!! Tue, 9 Feb 2016 06:17:01 EST Day #36 It was an exciting weekend. It started Friday with the dog agility competition and the latter ended yesterday. I am so very proud of my Aussie dog. In spite of my many handling blunders, he performed brilliantly. We entered 9 events and we finished: 1st 3 times, 2nd 2 times, and 3d 2 times. In only 2 events did we not place and that was because of my blunders. I hope to patch those up so that next competition, we do even better. Next competition won't be until early April so, we have time to... Mon, 8 Feb 2016 06:33:01 EST Day #33 We are doing so good. I can't recall going this long without a major collapse. Yesterday we did what we've been doing, walking/training/cycling. It's been an average of 3+ hours of exercise. This, of course, affords me the extra calories that the body needs to repair and recover. This weekend will be a big test because the doggie and I will be in a three day agility competition that ends this Sunday. This means that the exercise will be limited to some walking. The temptations will be there t... Fri, 5 Feb 2016 06:08:12 EST Day #32 We are "cooking with grease". It was an incredible day yesterday. Not only did I cycle, walk, and train my dogs, I also swept/vacuumed?mopped/washed/clean bathrooms. Very proud of myself. To top it all off, I stayed under my caloric goals. HOOAAA!! Thu, 4 Feb 2016 06:52:13 EST Day #31 It had been a while but, after my exercises, I mowed/fertilized/ killed some weeds. Frankly, it was invigorating. As result, my nap was a bit longer. It was a good day. HOOAAA!! Wed, 3 Feb 2016 06:48:50 EST Day #30 It was a good day. Walked, trained, and cycled. Getting ready for this weekend's dog agility competition.Hoping to pick up some ribbons. On the nutritional side, all went well. I went under my nutritional goal. All systems appear to be under control. It's gonna be a great month. I can feel it. HOOAAA!! Tue, 2 Feb 2016 06:19:49 EST Day #29 Well, January is over and have to award myself the "Sticking With It" commendation. I was 95% with the program. Lost inches and weight, but most importantly, kept the focus. For February, we want to keep up the motivation and seek to be healthier. HOOAAA!! Mon, 1 Feb 2016 08:04:56 EST Day #28 It's been 4 weeks since I started this craziness and am really doing very well. Yesterday was a great day. The day ended up being in the 70's and all was just right. I've been slowly but surely adding some jogging to my walks. Yesterday it was half walk and half jog. And when I say jog, trust me, it's real slow. Nonetheless, it's the first time in many years that I've done any type of jogging. At one time I was an avid runner, but my knees just couldn't take it. Now, I'm being careful and it... Sun, 31 Jan 2016 06:39:05 EST Day #27 Sock it to me Baby!! All systems were go yesterday. I even dropped another pound (171). One more pound lost and I will be going back in times to '92. At that time I was a trim, good-looking Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, wearing a Green Beret. While I won't be wearing my beret, it sure will feel good to be where I once was.
Anyway, we exercised vigorously yesterday with a nice 46-minute walk/jog, almost 2-hour bike ride, 45-minute lift session, and 20+ minutes of training my agility do... Sat, 30 Jan 2016 06:36:56 EST Day #26 Another great day under my belt. Did my daily exercises (walk, bike. lift) and was careful with my intake. Result was another day of caloric deficit. I guess that after a while, like exercise, nutrition becomes a habit. Sure makes life easier and healthier. HOOAAA!! Fri, 29 Jan 2016 06:28:40 EST Day #25 It was indeed a good day, in spite of the cold and the wind. I changed a little bit of my walking routine by jogging some of the time. First time jogging in a long time. Hope to continue to expand the jogging time. Anyway, the dogs and I walked and trained, I lifted some weights, and did my cycling. I noticed that my Aussie wanted a fourth training session so, we went out and did it without the chicken. I guess my going overboard with the praises is encouraging him. Anyway, it was a great day... Thu, 28 Jan 2016 06:26:48 EST Day #24 It was a limited day due to the constant rain. However, in spite of the rain, I still cycled for 1+ hours, walked the dogs, and trained the dog. Nutritionally, I did well and the weight lifting went as scheduled. Overall, a good day. HOOAAA!! Wed, 27 Jan 2016 06:42:09 EST Day #23 It was another great day. Walked, lifted, rode my bike, and told my Honey that I loved her. Does it get any better? The day was beautiful, so I went for all the marbles. Exercised for 3+ hours and ate smartly. The dog and I went to our weekly agility class and were totally humbled. We have been into agility for 2 years and the folks that train with us have been at it for 5+ years. But, I have vowed to be at their level before the end of this year. My competitive juices are flowing. HOOAAA!! Tue, 26 Jan 2016 05:58:58 EST Day #22 Yesterday was a slack day and boy did I ever abuse myself. Way too many chocolate chip cookies. Anyway, I owed myself a bit of a break. Today we're back on course and ready for some challenging exercising. HOOAAA!! Mon, 25 Jan 2016 07:53:17 EST Day #21 Ended the week with a big bang!! Did 4+ hours of exercise and attended a Dinner Theater for the first time. Overall, it was a super active week. Averaged 3+ hrs of daily exercise and stuck to the nutritional goals, except for dinner last night. Pretty proud of myself. HOOAAA!! Sun, 24 Jan 2016 14:38:25 EST Day #20 It's going so good that it's almost boring. Had another great day. Walked/trained my dogs, lifted some weights and rode my bike 3+ hours. It was quite a challenge, with the cold and wind. I appeared to be the only nut on the road. My goal this month was to drop 5 lbs. Think I'm gonna exceed that. We'll find out on my official weigh-in day, this coming Monday. So far, it's been a great January. HOOAAA!! Sat, 23 Jan 2016 06:19:33 EST Day #19 Oops! Noticed that I repeated day #17. So, I'm getting back on schedule and skipping #18.

Yesterday was another incredible day. I cleaned the house (while my Cuchi was hard at work), walked/trained the dogs, lifted some weights, rode my bike 2.5+ hrs, and did some bedding/towel washes. The nutrition was right on. Very proud of myself, so far. This Monday is my official weigh-in. My son and I made a bet that we would drop 5 lbs in January. Whoever does not meet their goal owes the o... Fri, 22 Jan 2016 05:50:52 EST Day #17 Another incredible day filled with accomplishments. Again, I had a wish list and again the wish list was completed. Walked the doggies, trained the dog 3X, rode my bike 2+ hrs, lifted some weights, and detailed both cars. Needless to say, I slept like a baby. As for nutrition, my Yuchi-Cuchi took care of me with delicious yet nutritious meals. No complaints from this end. HOOAAA!! Thu, 21 Jan 2016 05:43:58 EST Day #17 Another outstanding day. Made a wish list of all that I wanted to do and did it all. That is rare. But here's what we accomplished; Fed and walked the dogs; trained the dog 3X; biked almost 2 hrs; lifted; mowed the yard; went to grocery store; set up the obstacles for tomorrow's training; and took my wonderful afternoon nap. I love it when it all comes together. HOOAAA!! Wed, 20 Jan 2016 06:37:09 EST Day #16 It was a great day. Walked the dogs, trained the dog 2X, did resistance, rode my bike, did some chores around the house, and went to class with my dog. On the nutritional front, did real good. Happy with the day. HOOAAA!! Tue, 19 Jan 2016 06:27:56 EST Day 15 Well, we finished the agility competition with one more qualifying round (3 total).Overall, I was happy with my dog's performance, but not with mine. I sat down yesterday and wrote down where we need to wrk in order togged better. We have 3 weeks before the next competition. I have to remember to keep it all fun and give the dog some rewards. I tend to get very "mission oriented" and forget that the dog needs some serious rewards. We'll work on that. On the nutrition front, yesterday was not ... Mon, 18 Jan 2016 06:35:28 EST Day #14 So, day 14 was a good one. We entered and finished our 2nd day of agility competition. While we entered 2 events, we came in first in one. The 2nd event proved to be a learning lesson. I had finished the first event and had to run to make the 2nd event on time. Unfortunately, I was unable to walk the course and thus entered it blind. The result was that we didn't do that well. I later learned that I could have asked the judge to allow me a quick walk through the course. That would have given ... Sun, 17 Jan 2016 06:24:43 EST Day #13 First day of Agility competition was a bit disappointing. Guess I expected too much. Anyway, we came in 2nd in one of the events, didn't qualify in two and are waiting for the results of the 4th. Guess the doggie and I need to do some serious work, if we are to become the "Big Dogs". Guess we were spoiled when we did so well at the lower levels of competition. But as it is said, "When the going gets tough, the tough dig in". HOOAAA!! Sat, 16 Jan 2016 05:47:51 EST Day #12 What a wonderfully full day yesterday. Much was accomplished:
1. Walked/trained my dogs.
2. Did 35 minutes of intensive lifting.
3. Rode my bike for 1+ hours.
4. Did 4 washes.
5. Went to the Oakley place and had lenses replaced.
6. Had the car dealership help me with pairing my new I-Phone with my car.
7. Picked up my new computer (Man, that puppy is super fast).
8. Went out to an Italian rest;grant with my Honey.
9. Packed up in preparation for th... Fri, 15 Jan 2016 06:39:47 EST Day #10 It was indeed a good day. Exceeded 4 hours of exercise (and still alive), ate with focus, and slept like a baby. It just doesn't get much better. Went tour weekly dog agility class and was happy with our performance. Hopefully, we can maintain the sharpness during our upcoming competition this weekend. I just can't say enough for my talented dog's performance. He makes me real proud. HOOAAA!!
Tue, 12 Jan 2016 06:57:46 EST Day #9 It was a day of rest, a day of cheating, and a day to let it all hang out. I must admit that, in spite of feeling guilty, it was fun. The food choices were totally horrible, but after 8 days of total discipline, I owed myself a good old-fashioned day of feasting. Do I feel bad about it? Hell no. I earned it and worked hard for it. Today it's back to some self-discipline. HOOAAA!! Mon, 11 Jan 2016 06:40:48 EST Day #8 Another day, another $$. Continue to amaze myself with the total commitment, so afar this new year. Put in over 3.5 hours of exercise and kept my nutrition in total check. It's been many years since I started a year off so well. Today, however, we're gonna take a break and give the old bod a well deserved break. Will even give my agility dog a break and just play with him and the other wonderful dog. HOOAAA!! Sun, 10 Jan 2016 06:42:42 EST Day #7 Standing tall and looking good. Ought to be in Hollywood. One week into 2016 and I've been an unusually good boy. Yesterday we maintained the focus and did the exercises (dog walking/training, lifting, and cycling). The nutrition was good and I continued to end up with a caloric deficit. I even skipped my traditional Friday night Dirty Martini. Today is supposed to be a cold one, but that is not going to stop me.
Last night I sat down and did my agility training homework (write down 5 t... Sat, 9 Jan 2016 06:49:29 EST Day #6 All went very well yesterday. Exercised 3.5+ hours (walking dogs, training dog, lifting, and cycling) and was real good on the nutritional side. Other than a saddle rash, the body is handing tough. Got on the scales and noticed that another pound left me. Needless to say, all is good here. HOOAAA!! Fri, 8 Jan 2016 05:21:46 EST Day #5 After having done 3+ hours of exercise (dog walking/training, lifting and cycling), I weighed in at 174. Haven't been there in over 10 years. And the fun part is that I'm just getting started. I've been really, really good at watching my nutrition and exercising vigorously. Very proud of my old beat-up self. Boy am I ever motivated and focused. I might just make it under 170 by the end of the month, for the first time in over 20 years. HOOAAA!! Thu, 7 Jan 2016 06:40:39 EST Day #4 All went well today. Did over 2+ hours of exercise to include: walking dogs, training dog, cycling, and some resistance. The saddle rash is bothersome. Hopefully with some rash medicine, it'll go away. My focus is right on insofar as nutrition is concerned. I've logged a calorie deficit each of the 4 days, so far. HOOAAA!! Wed, 6 Jan 2016 07:31:42 EST Day #3 Overall, a great day. Walked my dogs; trained my dog; went on a 2-hour bike ride; and took down the Christmas lights from the outside of our house. After all that, I had to lay down and take a half hour nap. HOOAAA!! Mon, 4 Jan 2016 06:45:40 EST Day #2 In spite of the constant rain, I was able to walk the dogs and do 2 hours of bike riding. The temperatures were in the 30's, but nothing was going to stop me from going outside. In the end, all was good. HOOAAA!! Sun, 3 Jan 2016 07:14:57 EST DAY #1 All went well. Couldn't ride the bike, but was able to walk the dogs in spite of the rain. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. HOOAAA!! Sat, 2 Jan 2016 06:30:36 EST Accountability I tried, I really tried to meet my goal weight, but December with its many inherent challenges made it very difficult. While I dropped 10 lbs for the year, I fell short of the 20 lb goal. So, for January the goal is 5 lobs. I think that's very doable. HOOAAA!! Fri, 1 Jan 2016 21:07:50 EST Agility Competition Wrap-Up It was 3 days of hard dog agility competition. In the end my dog and I earned: 5 first places, 4 2nd places, 1 3rd place, 1 fourth place, and moved up in 3 of 4 events to the next category. I am really but really proud of my dog and his performance. We've worked hard to earn the awards and hope that we can keep it up for the next competition in February. HOOAAA!! Mon, 14 Dec 2015 21:39:37 EST Agiliy Competition 2nd Day After our incredible first day, I was not crazy enough to think that we could duplicate the results. So, we entered the 2nd day in a cautious state. So, first event was Gamblers and we came in 1st. Second event was Standard and we were 2nd. Third event was Snooker and we both were out of it and didn't place. Fourth event was Jumpers and we were 2nd. Overall, an impressive 2nd day. HOOAAA!! Sun, 13 Dec 2015 06:06:34 EST Agility Competition My dog (Blue) and I are relatively new to the world of dog agility competition. We've done well so far, but were hoping to do real well at this weekend's agility trials. We entered for 4 trials each of the 3 days. So, yesterday was the first of 3 days and we were hoping to be ready to master those nasty obstacles. First event was Gamblers and we came in 1st. Second event was Standard and we came in 2nd. Third event was Snooker and we came in second. Last event was Jumpers and we came in 1st. ... Sat, 12 Dec 2015 07:49:30 EST Accountability All in going well. Will have to take a 3-day break due to my dog and I having to compete in an agility trial this weekend. Will be back on the bike on Monday (I hope). Have a great weekend. HOOAAA!! Thu, 10 Dec 2015 23:39:15 EST Accountability Finally, after 5 days of frustration, I'm back on the weight loss wagon. Returned back to 177 and hoping for better results for the remainder of the month. Had to really look at what I was stuffing in my mouth and discovered that peanut butter was the culprit. So, no more peanut butter for a while. Now to make up for lost days and search for that elusive "170". HOOAAA!! Tue, 8 Dec 2015 06:41:14 EST Accountability Wow! I added another pound in spite of exercising and being careful with the nutrition. I'm gonna have to really examine what I'm eating that's causing this increase in weight. I've gone up 2 lbs in 2 days. We'll suck it up and continue and our quest for the elusive "170". HOOAAA!! Sun, 6 Dec 2015 07:11:51 EST Accountability Our bodies are wonderful machines capable of some incredible deeds. However, its unpredictability leaves much to be desired. Last 3 days I have been meticulous in my nutrition and fitness. As a result, I expected a favorable return in my battle with the Bulge. Two mornings ago I was at 177. This morning I expected a breakthrough, but it was not to be. The scale read 178. I could not believe it. So, rather than pout and go on an eating frenzy, I will maintain my focus and hope for the best dow... Fri, 4 Dec 2015 18:25:26 EST Accountability So, I trained with my "Wonder Dog', lifted some weights, rode my bike and did some hill repeats, walked my dog, and cleaned the house. The weight stayed the same at 177. I still have 7 lbs to lose by 12/31. As I looked at yesterday's nutrition, there was a large caloric deficit. If I have an equally large deficit today, I might just drop to 176 tomorrow. HOOAAA!! Thu, 3 Dec 2015 19:21:45 EST Accoutability At the beginning of the year I declared that, as a goal, I would be at 170 lbs by year end. Today I'm at 177. So, it's doable, but I have to be a good boy for most of the month. I'm hoping to stay healthy, cycle often, lift 5X weekly, where possible, and watch what I eat and drink. When I get there, I will have pushed back the clock some 23 years. So, in order to stay accountable, I will post a blog daily until I reach that marvelous goal. HOOAAA!! Wed, 2 Dec 2015 20:50:41 EST Dog Agility Competition This past weekend, Wonder Dog and I packed our goodies and headed for a Dog Agility Competition. We're relatively new to this and I did not expect much. While we train almost daily, my dog and I don't have the experience competing in a big venue with many people watching. But, after 3 days, that little DUDE performed like a Pro. We qualified in 4 events and brought home 8 ribbons. I am so proud of my Aussie. Next competition is in mid December and we're gonna work hard to make it a great one.... Wed, 18 Nov 2015 07:18:38 EST In Sync I was just about finished with my blog and suddenly it disappeared. So, I'm starting again. So far this month I'm a bit ahead of schedule with my goal of 1,000 cycling miles. All systems are go and hopefully, I'll make it by the end of the month. In th last 3 weeks I've added some strength exercises so as to keep the total body in shape. I do chin-ups, crunches and weights, Mon thru Fri. I'm averaging over 3 hours of cardio daily and the body is OK with it, so far. Additionally, I do some agi... Tue, 15 Sep 2015 07:03:45 EST A Record Breaker So, today I rode in my 9th "Hotter than Hell 100" Bike Ride. Prior to today, my very best was 17.2 miles per hour for the total ride. Today, I was feeling real good at the start. The first hour had my average at 18.1. The second hour was at 19.1. The third was at 19.3. The fourth at 19.4 and the 5th at 19.41. I feel so good about breaking my personal best. It's important to note that the previous PR was in 2011, at my ripe old age of 66. Not only am I getting more handsome, but now I'm gettin... Sat, 29 Aug 2015 16:54:04 EST Lost While doing RAGBRAI, I was hearing this god-awful sound coming from my bike when going uphill. It turned out to be bad bearings, according to my mechanic. I turned my bike in for repair yesterday hoping to get it back right away. Unfortunately, no bearings available. They have to be ordered and won't be coming until today, at best. Thsat means another day without riding. I'm totally mis-oriented. I need my back in order to be complete. HOOAAA!! Wed, 29 Jul 2015 06:26:39 EST
