BIGTOSS03's SparkPeople Blog BIGTOSS03's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community A Goal Completed I have been training to run a 5K but never ran it. However this past 4th of July I ran a 5K for Ronald McDonald house called the firecracker 5k. Mon, 3 Aug 2015 13:25:05 EST Off day running.... Rough sleep last night so missed church this morning. I didn't want to waste the day and since I had the energy went for a 3 mile run. Nice run overall just a little slower than I would've liked. 57 Sun, 20 Feb 2011 23:57:14 EST Trying to start off right... 105 I finished 2010 on a good note seeing my body fat percentage drop down to 11.75 percent once. The year ended with a body fat percentage of 13.75 which is way lower than I have ever had even in the military. I started my body fat percentage at 14 percent and I am good with that. I know I can do better now and will strive to achieve my goals not just in fitness but other parts of my life. Tue, 18 Jan 2011 00:53:20 EST Tired out but it was worth it.... 216 My buddy brought in the Insanity DVD by Shawn T. Now my initial goal was just to do 30 minutes on the elliptical trainer and lift weights. However after he invited me to join him and I know he really works up a good sweat I took him up on it. My whole body feels the burn and even though I did 75 minutes of it I know that I didn't match his intensity. Great work out and hopefully I will sleep solidly tonight. Sat, 27 Nov 2010 00:54:12 EST Rough week.... 249 Feels like I've been run over and its only Monday! Still I am going to enjoy my work-out and I get the weekend off this week. I am going to arrange to study some with my instructor this Saturday if he is available. Tue, 2 Nov 2010 00:14:30 EST Day 3 calisthenics... 57 Successfully completed day 3 routine of my calisthenics. Only drawback was that the stairways were secured so I couldn't do the stairway run portion. Still I am happy that I did the rest of the routine verbatim and as usual my heartrate shot up. Improvised by doing the elliptical trainer. Fri, 29 Oct 2010 00:48:46 EST Returning to class. 38 Well after my embarrasing judo display at the tournament I got the guts to go back to class. My instructor of course was happy to see me and has the attitude of "shake it off" and move on. While I am agreeing on moving on the actual performance irritates me greatly. Thu, 21 Oct 2010 00:09:31 EST Day 1 all over... 198 Today I pushed myself despite being tired. I did 65 minutes of walking, 30 minutes on the elliptical and 30 minutes of calisthenics. Afterwards I lifted weights and worked my core area. Sun, 17 Oct 2010 00:05:31 EST Seeing some success at last!... 193 Today I had a body fat measurement by the company's fitness coordinator. While I can't say my weight has dropped dramatically I can say that it was still a surprise. My body fat actually dropped down to 15.1 percent! This body fat percentage was better than my time in the navy except for my beginning years. I have given up seeing body fat measurements below 18 percent. Thu, 14 Oct 2010 23:27:48 EST Day is done and I survived it.... 248 My initial goal was to compete in this judo tournament regardless of the outcome. I discovered that I am extremely slow and rusty to boot. A few of the instructors came to me after each match. They each commented that I basically lost because of my own bad balance and not utilizing my grip. In the end I feel kind of mixed emotions. First I am very satisfied that I did go through with it despite my fears of performing very poorly. On the other hand my pathetic performance haunts ... Sat, 9 Oct 2010 21:32:48 EST Nervous big day tomorrow... 38 I am competing in a local judo tournament put on by a friend. Now I haven't competed in years and the last time I practiced my leg was injured. I spent several months not able to visit the gym because I was on crutches. Here is hoping that this experience won't be another trip to the ER for me. Sat, 9 Oct 2010 00:54:16 EST Rushed work-out. 198 Due to late working didn't get to do a full work out. Cut my normal work out down by 30 minutes working with a customer. However I do feel somewhat good because I did finish up and that person was happy. Tue, 5 Oct 2010 23:34:32 EST Anxiousness... 216 Let a friend and instructor talk me into an upcoming tournament that he is promoting. Now I am a little anxious since I haven't participated in a tournament in years. Secondly I haven't been to practice since I don't have the working hours I'd like but maybe once every couple of weeks. Third the last time I ended up with a fractured leg which left me unable to work out for 4 months. Tue, 5 Oct 2010 00:54:39 EST Hard day physically. 102 Today I felt really drained. One of my co-workers commented that I looked like I was tired. It seemed like today dragged on and my work-out was not one of the best either. I didn't have the energy to do a serious run so I opted for the elliptical trainer instead. Afterwards I lifted weights and did the machines but needed to rest between sets longer than usual. Finally I finished with some core exercises and really was exhausted. Sun, 3 Oct 2010 00:49:29 EST Weightless day. 320 I forgot to turn in my gloves to be washed. Unfortunately I didn't lift any weights however I did manage to do some great body weight exercises and also used the cardio ball. A fair 30 minute/3 mile was a good start and I felt pretty good throughout most of the pace. Fri, 24 Sep 2010 00:51:07 EST Moving A Lot. 57 Whole lot of cardio today for me. I walked for 71 minutes then did Day 3 of my calisthenics routine which was another 20 minutes. After that routine I did 30 minutes on the elliptical trainer and just finished with yoga for the night. Now I am seriously ready for some sleep. Hopefully this energy is worn down for that. Wed, 22 Sep 2010 00:54:13 EST Another week done.... 198 Although work was rough for a while my work-out felt great. My regret is that all my work-out gloves were in the laundry so I didn't have any to lift weights with. Still I improvised and did exercises that didn't require any weights at all. Sat, 11 Sep 2010 23:19:04 EST Ran outside.... 198 Besides my daily walking I ran the parking garage which has some steep inclines. While the run was definitely not my fastest it was a good one. I hung in there for 30 minutes straight which was my goal but I was pushing it. I checked my heart rate monitor to insure that I wasn't forcing myself past my limit. Sun, 5 Sep 2010 00:56:18 EST Getting back into the swing... 56 Well, today was my day off and I wasn't enough to feel like I'm ready and rejuvenated to go back to work. However reality has set in and I am trying to get myself back into the groove. I am going to return to my plyometric work-out routine tomorrow starting again with day 1. Wed, 1 Sep 2010 00:19:45 EST Still need a vacation. 55 Well, the vacation didn't go as well as I had hoped. After all is said and done I didn't come back as rejuvenated or rested as I would've liked. I am still tired and was pretty much unable to sleep well during it. I really feel like I need another vacation to recuperate from this one. Sun, 29 Aug 2010 00:57:03 EST Vacation time finally... 40 Maybe it is just me. But right now I am feeling a little burned out and hopefully will feel better after getting away for a week. I still plan on working out even while gone. Doing some yoga stretches on the Wii before going to bed seems to help me relax a little more. Sun, 22 Aug 2010 00:52:01 EST Almost vacation time!!!!! 107 After work tomorrow I am going to take a vacation. It has been a rough year with family and friends passing. Work hasn't been too easy at times but I am looking forward to spending time relaxing with my family and sightseeing. Sat, 21 Aug 2010 00:16:18 EST Getting through the day. 198 Today's work-out was fueled partially by aggravation and lack of sleep. Helping today was just none stop and some were really rude so that added fuel to my fire. Good thing though because it made me push myself so that I would leave it all at the gym. Fri, 20 Aug 2010 00:54:56 EST Made it through calisthenics.... 321 Day 1 of the calisthenics work-out wasn't too bad. The jumping portions though are strenuous and wear me down quickly. However I am still hanging in there and won't quit. Hopefully in a month I'll be progressing and do more reps. Fri, 13 Aug 2010 00:30:38 EST Missed work-out make-up. 326 I skipped yesterday's work-out due to the UFC fight last night. Since I wanted to get to the sports bar before all the good seats were taken I immediately left after work. So today I made up for it by going to the gym and working out on my off day. It was a great work-out overall and I did some heavy bag work for 3 minutes and felt it. Sun, 8 Aug 2010 21:57:08 EST Spoke with instructor tonight about my progress... 215 My instructor taked to me about participating in a tournament in October. I had to tell him that I need to get with him and really tune up my skills since it has been quite a while since my last tournament. Also injuries that occurred between then and now plus reduced work-out time due different work hours have me a little reluctant. I just don't want to go into a tournament feeling like I am there to fill a quota for a weight class. Fri, 6 Aug 2010 00:17:56 EST Worked out with a partner! 198 My co-worker came in and worked out with me. He must've pushed me harder than I normally push myself. I actually enjoyed it especially since he use to play football and works out with that type of ethic. I am seriously drained and I think I'll finish with some yoga stretches on my Wii and call it a night. Tue, 3 Aug 2010 23:39:00 EST Calisthenics/Plyometrics whew! 68 I survived my first week of the new program. I am feeling it too! Usually after a work-out I am slightly tired but refreshed after my shower. Now I feel cleaner after the shower but I feel like I am sleeping much better when I do go to bed. The idea of trying to do the exercises faster is wearing me out quickly. Although I still do 30 minutes of some cardio to end my day and usually 14 minutes of yoga on the Wii. Thu, 29 Jul 2010 00:41:23 EST Surviving new work-out!! 322 Finally started my new routine from the company's fitness consultant last week. It is a combo of plyometrics and calisthenics which really forces me to push myself. Last week I did days 1 and 2 to exhaustion. Today I did day 3 and it has left me weak. I am going to end with some light yoga stretches and hit the rack hard. Tue, 27 Jul 2010 00:07:06 EST Another try for the new routine... 321 I setup another appointment for the new work-out from my company's fitness coordinator. The original appointment had to be cancelled due to my knee injury. Hopefully next week it will happen. Although I am trying to spruce up my routines I definitely think this training session will help me a lot to push myself and lose the weight in my stubborn areas. Thu, 15 Jul 2010 23:37:31 EST Saturday work-out today. 56 Unfortunately I didn't work out on Saturday due to a wedding I had to attend. I did however make up for it today. Although my run was a bit slower I am still happy that I did choose to do it. My remaining work out was good with me doing some alternating between upper and lower body exercises before finishing with core exercise. I am going to do some yoga and go to bed. Tue, 13 Jul 2010 00:18:21 EST Nice work-out. 15 Feeling tired and bloated all day. Still I managed to work through it and happily didn't let it stop me from working out. While I have to be honest and say it wasn't the killer sweat that I strive for it was a good work-out nonetheless. I set the elliptical trainer on its highest setting and pushed through it. Then I did weights and core exercises and cooled down with some light stretching. Wed, 7 Jul 2010 00:34:31 EST Working on running... 57 My goal was to run without having to grab onto the sides of the treadmill every minute. Today I ran my first mile at a 9 min. 45 sec. pace without grabbing anything. The last 20 minutes though I did slow down the pace as to avoid grabbing the sides. Striving to return to my old 9 minute per mile pace safely. Still I did finish the run and it was great. Ended doing weights and core exercises. Good day. Fri, 2 Jul 2010 00:01:06 EST Missed A Work-Out... Unfortunately I missed a work-out last week due to loss of time. I forgot my days and for some reason thought the big UFC fight came on this past Saturday. However it wasn't a total loss as I did get to see the Strike Force fights. Sadly my goal to make up for that work out on Monday was foiled due to sickness. 282 Wed, 30 Jun 2010 00:04:05 EST Coordinating problems.. 24 I had a scheduled date to begin a new work-out routine with the company's fitness coordinator. However it turns out that date has to be changed again due work requirements. Oh well, I still did a good work-out today although I am anxious to see what exercises she has to help me improve. Fri, 25 Jun 2010 23:38:21 EST Change-Up needed. 198 I enjoyed my running today because it was a good sweat. Hit the weights and did some core exercises. However I am feeling the need to push myself a little harder towards improving my speed. Next week I have rescheduled my meeting with the company fitness trainer to do such. My goal is to gradually get a little faster for judo without injuring myself. Wed, 23 Jun 2010 00:25:28 EST Base work-out... 67 It was too hot to run outside with the temperature hitting 103 degrees. I aired on the side of caution and did the elliptical trainer for 45 minutes, then lifted weights, shadowboxed and then my core exercises. I guess the Ultimate Fighter finale tonight inspired me to do some shadowboxing for 3 minutes. Sat, 19 Jun 2010 21:33:29 EST Easy work-out today... 206 After the run on Tuesday my body felt like it needed a little easier cardio work-out. So I turned to the elliptical trainer today and set it on a good high setting. Not the highest setting but enough to make me sweat after 30 minutes then I hit the weights with the goal of pushing myself to exhaustion. Finally I ended my day again with the core exercises and now some yoga before I turn it to relax. Fri, 18 Jun 2010 00:20:52 EST Sore but Better.... 198 Today was a hot day. I walked for 60 minutes total during my breaks. I ran for 3.08 miles in 30 minutes (avg 9:45 min/mi.) which was definitely a good sweat. Then I did a 100 push-ups in sets of 25 each lifting free weights between each set. My goal was not to give myself too much rest time and I am feeling it now. Tue, 15 Jun 2010 23:18:34 EST Different is good. 326 Today I took a step backwards and did Tae Bo for 45 minutes. I used my advanced Tae Bo DVD after work in the company gym. It was pretty good and it forced me to use some muscles in a different way. Sun, 13 Jun 2010 00:56:32 EST Hot day in the gym!!!! 198 Definitely need to drink more water than normal today. I worked out at the hangar base gym which doesn't have air conditioning at all. Two hours of judo felt like four hours in that GI. I mean I sweated up a storm and felt so dehydrated that I need to take water breaks. I am sore and will definitely sleep good tonight. Fri, 11 Jun 2010 00:50:52 EST Need today's run... 231 Not quite the way I expected work to go today. A little disappointing but none the less it worked out. I needed the run today though to get my spirits back up to par. It still isn't my best but it was relaxing afterward. I did my usual lifting weights, core exercises but added the squat to my routine today. Feeling better and just finished up some yoga exercises with my Wii. Wed, 9 Jun 2010 00:37:03 EST Needing a change up.... 189 My routines are okay but I have scheduled a meeting with the company's fitness coordinator/trainer. I have asked her to help me get together something involving plyometrics in a a safe way to boost my work out routine. Today I did the elliptical trainer for 45 minutes and it was alright. I then did some weights and a few core exercises to round it out. Sat, 5 Jun 2010 23:31:00 EST Whew good work-out! 56 It seemed like the day was just too long! However it did motivate me to complete my 2nd work out for this week. I pushed myself for 30 minutes running at a 10 minute/mile pace. I had walked throughout the day for a total of 63 minutes already. Afterwards I did a 100 push-ups which I am feeling then some free weights and a couple of machines. Finally finished my work-out with my core exercises before dragging myself back to the house to rest. Thu, 3 Jun 2010 23:43:58 EST Sorry work-out today... 24 Although I stuck with my schedule today I just wasn't energized like normal. Maybe it is the lack of sleep last night? Or perhaps it was just from making up for Saturday's work-out on Monday? Either way I didn't lift any weights and just did a 30 minute walk at a 15 min/mile pace and core exercises. Hopefully my next work-out this week will be more energetic and I'll feel it. Wed, 2 Jun 2010 00:23:43 EST Saturday routine has been done.. 39 Last Saturday wasn't a good day for me. I got off work late which cut into my work out time and my time getting to the sports bar for the UFC fight. My plan was to run on the treadmill for 30 minutes but the treadmill took 2 power hits before I completed my 30 minute run. I didn't do any weights or core exercises because of the time. Unfortunately the fight was a big disappointment all around as both fighters didn't seem as committed as the hype would have the audience believe. Mon, 31 May 2010 23:57:38 EST Worked up a sweat.... 198 It definitely was a hot day. I walked around outside for 57 minutes and sweated. Then I rode the stationary bike for 45 minutes and hit the weights. Today though I did 100 push-ups!! I also noticed that the gym now has a pull up bar which I had to go and use. Finally I am trying to leave all the exercising to the gym so I did my core exercises last. Nice sweat and I am feeling tired which is great. Maybe I'll get some serious sleep tonight. Fri, 28 May 2010 00:48:20 EST Another cardio day! 266 Started my day off with doing yoga exercises courtesy of my Wii. Then I went to the gym and jumped on the elliptical for 30 minutes prior to going to judo for 2 more hours. I am definitely feeling sore now. Only other exercise was 75 push-ups which I barely cranked out. Wed, 26 May 2010 00:37:26 EST Cardio crazy! 135 I did some yoga using my Wii and some cardio, then I went to judo practice for 2 hrs and finished with the elliptical trainer. Unfortunately I was too tired to lift weights or do my core exercises today. Well, I guess it'll wait until tomorrow because I feel like my body is going to let me know about this day tomorrow morning. Still I feel great for having done so much cardio and pushing myself so far. Thu, 20 May 2010 23:42:23 EST Low Impact Day.... 192 Weighed myself this morning and still at 200 lbs. Not a problem because I know I'll be dropping that weight soon (faith). Still I walked for nearly an hour on my breaks and lunch time then biked for 45 minutes. I did a short sprint for 2 minutes just to get the heart rate up. Again I took my wife's suggestion and did my core exercises then hit the weights leaving it all at the gym. I am feeling it. Wed, 19 May 2010 00:18:45 EST
