Not just what I am going to eat, but what I am going to do if I get bored that does not involve eating.

One of my biggest enemies is boredom. If I am sitting at home watching TV I am almost 100% likely to tear apart the cupboards trying to find something to eat.

Winter in the Adirondacks sometimes is really fun, especially when I can enjoy outside sports. ... Fri, 25 Jan 2013 11:36:35 EST Fruit and Veggie Cleanse http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5218320 Has anyone ever done a fruit and veggie cleanse where you only eat fruits and vegetables? I have done one before, but I lasted about 4 days before I binged worse than before. Does anyone have any tips on if I do it how to fight cravings and not eat everything in the world after? My spouse thinks it's a terrible idea, since on the last one I lost 9lbs and then gained 15lbs within a week.

I've been reading about different types of detox, since I am 100% positive my body is overl... Tue, 22 Jan 2013 09:47:43 EST Fell off the wagon this weekend http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5206518 This weekend was a ton of fun! I went to visit friends down by my parents on Saturday and then went shopping on Sunday in Plattsburgh. Our shopping days are pretty extensive because the nearest big name stores are an hour away, so we make a day of it. Unfortunately I also decided it was be my "cheat" day and we used some of the giftcards we got yesterday. We went to Applebees for lunch and I made some pretty poor decisions. Oh well. It happens, so I am going to pick up and move on. I d... Mon, 14 Jan 2013 11:16:29 EST Getting harder http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5199182 Holy cow today has been HARD!!! Just after I was firmly convinced if I said it was easy and kept thinking it would be easy that it would be easy. The plus side is that between not smoking with the group after staff meeting, not eating a single peice of the two bowls of candy and donuts passed around at the staff meeting and not ordering lunch with the group I have made some very good decisions. So now I am back to it being easy :-)

I did just dance for 25 minutes today and my ... Wed, 9 Jan 2013 17:17:59 EST Feeling pretty good! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5195802 After a couple of days of really watching my calorie intake I am finding my sugar cravings are going down. I've been trying to eat mostly protein and vegetables, although I have been having Glucerna shakes in the morning. Any carbs I am eating are slow Low GI carbs which has also been helping. I have been trying to think of this journey as easy, instead of hard. Every other time I have tried a lifestyle change all I do is think of how hard it is. I am just going to keep thinking "It's ea... Mon, 7 Jan 2013 21:02:00 EST First Successful Day in a Long Time http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5193065 I am super proud of myself for yesterday! I worked out the minute I got up, ate within my calorie range all day and I only had my designated snack after dinner. Plus I haven't had a cigarette since Thursday, which is HUGE!

I kept telling myself "Do you really want it" before I ate it. I used the same approach for smoking. I kept smelling my hair and saying "Oh my hair smells so good when it doesn't smell like smoke". I kept trying to keep my mindset in a positive mode. Even... Sun, 6 Jan 2013 12:19:32 EST Current Challenges http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5191649 The past few days have gone fairl well on the eating healthy spectrum. I have done some exercising, but not as much as I would like to. I am finding I am having a hard time not snacking after dinner. I thought it would be easier once I got rid of all the junk food in the cupboard, but I am over-eating on "better for you" snacks. While one serving may not have too many calories, when I eat 4 servings it adds up quickly. Has anyone had any success curbing after dinner snacking (in my case ... Sat, 5 Jan 2013 13:34:59 EST Positive Attitude http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5188205 I was pretty bummed out yesterday, but today I am more confident and optimistic. I have found through my experience that when I am positive, even if I am feeling down, I can get much more accomplished and stick to my goals. Most of the time just faking it can make my day more positive.

So my goal for this week is to stay in a positive mindset! Thu, 3 Jan 2013 12:58:35 EST Reality http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5186553 Everyone has their own reality, but I have come to realize through a couple of conversations with my sister that my reality is quite skewed. I was thinking about this over the past couple of months, but it never really hit home until the other day.

For instance, I never really gave to much thought into how messed up my family really is. My therapist keeps telling me, but I just kept on thinking every family is dysfunctional. My sister started relaying stories and I was shocked a... Wed, 2 Jan 2013 16:16:29 EST Goals for 2013 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5183798 Well I'm back on sparkpeople and I wanted to create some goals that will get me started on my healthy living journey.

1) Eat more vegetables and fruit than other types of food
2) Stay on sparkpeople even if I fall off the bandwagon
3) Exercise (even just 10 minutes) every day

I was going to make the list a bit longer, but I think that's good for now. There is no sense in overwhelming myself.

I will loose 50lbs this year! Tue, 1 Jan 2013 12:24:12 EST Overcoming Emotional Traps http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4765936 So today I had a healthy balanced meal planned out for dinner, was all prepare with my workout routine and my wife said something so irritating after I ate I just walked into the bedroom an read some information online about the GI index. I was contemplating skipping my workout routine because I am so stubborn I just have no inclination to go out to the living room to use the treadmill. So instead of just sitting here being miserable I just did some crunches, wall sits, twists and leg lifts... Thu, 1 Mar 2012 19:35:08 EST Office Motivation http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4753301 I work in an office of four people. We have people coming and going all day, but for the most part it is just the four of us.

Two of us are on health kicks. We have been doing lunges to the bathroom or copier, leg lifts while talking on the ohone and doing wall chair sits thingies while on the phone. We look ridiculous and the laughter keeps us going! One of the other office members even printed us out a list of office workouts.

Yesterday during lunch break we played... Thu, 23 Feb 2012 13:03:08 EST The Only Thing Holding Me Back is Myself http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4752058 So it's not a shocking discovery or something new, but for some reason it is resonating with me today.

There is absolutely no reason I can't be fit.

None at all.

The only thing holding me back is fear. Fear of failing, fear of cravings, fear of never loosing weight etc.

So there is nothing holding me back but myself.

I have been on a roll with exercising lately. It makes me feel great!

So here is to not holding myself back a... Wed, 22 Feb 2012 20:41:15 EST Misfortunes and looking forward http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4651943 Wow the past two weeks have been a whirlwind! We had two family concerns and my dad was in the hospital for awhile, but he ok now. So now the 2012 has rolled it is time to rev myself up. I have lost my exercise routine the past weeks in addition to gaining a few pounds, but now that the New Year is here I am continuing to look forward.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year! Mon, 2 Jan 2012 17:47:00 EST Motivated and Discouraged at the same time http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4625894 Yes, it is actually possible.

I'm motivated because I just finished the 2nd workout in the couch to 5k program. I HATE running and I really want to actually enjoy it. So I am hoping this program helps me enjoy running a bit more while getting me in shape.

At the same time, I lost 15lbs quickly, however I have not been able to loose even a pound in the past 4 day. I would have thought with the running I would be loosing something. I should stop stepping on the scale u... Wed, 14 Dec 2011 19:52:04 EST Yay! I just jogged! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4623197 Today was my day one of the couch to 5k challenge! While I may be coughing up a lung now, I still did it! Although apparently it only burned 145 calories, but that is ok!

Feeling good about the 15lb loss. While I have not lost anything the past 2 days I still have been eating within my range and working out every day!

I'm on a two week streak which is really good for me! Yay me! lol Mon, 12 Dec 2011 19:56:27 EST Lessons for this Week http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4616789 Things I have learned this week:
1) Even if you don't want to exercise, just start with something small and chances are you will keep on going

2) Exercising as soon as I get home works the best for me. Everything else can wait, and it de-stresses me from work! It also doesn't give me time to think of excuses

3) Since my weight seems to be falling off of me, staying away from tempting foods is much easier than I thought

4) I make Jello or Chocolate sugar... Wed, 7 Dec 2011 18:35:25 EST One week today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4615408 So I started one week ago today and the changes are really amazing.

As of today I lost 10-12lbs (the scale varies) and I am feeling motivated. It helps to step on the scale and see my weight going down.

I have been planning my meals, and using sparkrecipes to choose healthier meals.

Today I made baked chicken parm and chose to have no pasta, although my wife did.

I have also been making sure to bring my lunch every day.

I have exercised ... Tue, 6 Dec 2011 20:02:21 EST Even more motivation! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4611828 So I am excited today! The day started out kind of iffy. I went to a fire house benfit breakfast and ate more than I intended. Not too bad, but still more than I meant to. Luckily we went later in the morning so I am just having a small snack for lunch of a fruit of vegetable shortly and then I am making some sparkpeople chili later.

I went to church for the first time in awhile and I ran in to a friend of mine who was telling me they are creating a new softball team because ... Sun, 4 Dec 2011 12:56:49 EST Cold is still kicking my butt, but going strong! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4610514 I have had a terrible cold this past week, and it is seriously kicking my butt! I'm keeping going strong however, and while I have to admit I didn't exercise yesterday, I will for the next 2 days which will still meet my goal!

I am finding cutting my sugar intake level to a much lower rate is really helping. I am not getting as hungry as quickly and feel good.

Yesterday was our holiday party at work. A co-worker made really low calorie cookies for all of us dieters wi... Sat, 3 Dec 2011 11:48:56 EST Making lifestyle changes already http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4608482 It's day 3 and I am still going strong! Not only am I meeting my fast break goals, but I have now consistantly exercised 3 days in a row and ate within my calorie range three days in a row. I am very motivated to keep this going!

Since my 3 days has been so strong my goal is to exercise at least 2 days out of the next three days. It is the weekend so I will give myself a one day break (if I want to), but I want to keep this exercising streak up!

Things I am proud of... Thu, 1 Dec 2011 21:05:11 EST Going from negative to positive http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4604733 So today is Day 1 and I joined feeling a little depressed and upset about the result at my doctor's appointment today. It was also shocking to me that when they weighed me I weighed 304 pounds! So for the better of my health I am going to have to start taking care of myself. I'm not on the internet that often, but my goal is to check in at least 3x a week including every Monday with a weigh in, read some posts and check off what goals I have met. Hopefully I will actually log in more. <... Tue, 29 Nov 2011 16:56:29 EST
