BHSUZYCUE's SparkPeople Blog BHSUZYCUE's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community My goal for this week I would like to walk at least 5 miles by the end of the day on Saturday. Wed, 12 Nov 2014 20:45:41 EST One sentence blog Today I feel like I could sleep all day long. Sun, 9 Nov 2014 17:01:21 EST "Git 'r dun"! Spark Coach asked me to blog on my favorite saying or quote that inspires me every time. Can't say that I really have one, but the title of my blog is a humorous quote from Larry the Cable Guy (I believe) that epitomizes the way I feel sometimes - I'm exhausted or I'm stressed out or it doesn't seem like there's enough time in the day to fit everything in, but you just have to "git 'r dun". Sat, 8 Nov 2014 20:02:06 EST Baby steps are good, yes? Calorie count too high today (and yesterday!) - didn't even track on the weekend - but I'm moving forward, I hope.
386

Done more walking in the last week than I have in months - keep telling myself it's progress, but I get depressed when I think of the massive amounts of exercise I've done in the past without really blinking an eye. Now I get out of breath bending over to put my socks and shoes on so I can get out and walk (big belly forces air out of lungs when b... Tue, 4 Nov 2014 15:48:38 EST It was a rough morning... but the day is getting better. A wonderful co-worker brought in goodies for the office this morning, which included 2 fruit trays. I had yummy honeydew melon with breakfast and lunch. I also had a little pack of bite-size chocolate chips muffins, so I wasn't totally good, but such is life.

Have you ever noticed that the honeydew melon tends to hang around the longest when there's a fruit tray? Strawberries and watermelon disappear in a hurry and pineapple goes quickly also, but the... Thu, 30 Oct 2014 13:22:48 EST Trying again My hopes and plans for this year have not come to fruition and I find myself starting over yet again. I am now at my heaviest weight ever and feel utterly exhausted at the prospect of losing so many pounds. I know I can't stay motivated if I think that way, so I am trying to think of each small step as a victory, to think of every good choice as a triumph and to think of every bad choice as an opportunity to get it right the next time.

I am now in the position of providing full-tim... Wed, 29 Oct 2014 13:58:24 EST The Journey Begins Again My fitness journey till now:

At the beginning of 2010, I weighed 356. My doctor put me on Metformin because my A1C was high, then I had to have surgery to remove my gallbladder. I actually lost 26 lbs without even trying - I think because of the new medication and changes in my digestive process after the gallbladder removal.

At that point, I decided to capitalize on the unexpected weight loss and see if a little effort could help me lose even more. On June 11, 2010, I... Thu, 2 Jan 2014 12:33:06 EST I'm baaaccckkk...and fatter than ever! ;-) Well, not quite, but the lbs have experienced a resurgence over the last few months. I gotta get back on track, so SP to the rescue again.

There have been many changes lately, the most notable of which is that I found my forever guy!!! Serious woohoo time now 244 334 I have the ring

and the 337 day is fast approaching.

Work is beginning to settle down to ... Wed, 19 Jun 2013 13:49:37 EST A quick thank you to my wonderful Sparkfriends I have been unable to Spark consistently for some time, due to the demands of work. I have maintained my exercise habits (some days better than others), but my eating has not been the best. As a consequence, I gained back almost 30 of the pounds that I had lost. On the plus side, I completed my second half-marathon in March and have almost completed my duties as a group leader in the same women's running clinic that I attended as a participant last year - the clinic that got me started as a r... Thu, 3 May 2012 22:26:14 EST Some pics from my run this evening I just want to share some beautiful views of sky and water that I saw while finishing up my run this evening along the River Trail. Unfortunately, I am not a skilled photographer, so I couldn't begin to do justice to the beauty that God provided.

<i... Tue, 31 Jan 2012 22:11:19 EST Completed January Jumpstart Workout Challenge - WOOHOO! Lost 1.6 lbs total despite the scale going the wrong way on the last two weigh-ins. I have decided not to focus so much on the scale for a while. I will focus instead on steadily building my fitness level by running as often and as strongly as I can and by making sure that exercise is a part of every day, even if it's only 10 minutes. I will also get back into the ST habit that I have gotten out of while getting started as a runner.

Lately, I have been hearing the voice of Dorie (f... Sat, 28 Jan 2012 20:05:08 EST I knew 9 lbs lost in one week was a fluke! I'm still down from the beginning of the year, though, so WooHoo anyway!! 9

I had someone ask me an interesting question today while I was out running. We were talking about losing weight and they asked me how much more I was trying to lose. I told them I'd need to lose another 80 lbs to get down to normal BMI. Their response was to ask, "But how much more are you trying to lose?" Kinda made me stop and think - well, I didn't actually stop, but I did think! ;-)
<... Sat, 21 Jan 2012 20:55:39 EST Finished week 2 of the January Jumpstart Workout Challenge Almost back to the weight I was before the holidays - yes, I gained weight over the holidays. I kinda purposefully ate all kinds of things I normally wouldn't - it was a bit of an experiment to see how much weight I might gain and how quickly I could shed it. It was also a decision to enjoy eating holiday goodies without worrying about every bite I was putting in my mouth.

Probably not a good plan, but I think I learned some things from it:

1. Just because you put a few ... Sat, 14 Jan 2012 22:56:05 EST Short blog to meet my goal of at least one blog per week So, I'm starting off the new year with the January Jump Start Challenge and a new weight loss goal. I hope to lose 55 lbs by my birthday in December 2012. That will put me firmly in One-derland and bring my BMI down to overweight status, rather than obese. Frankly, I am fine with overweight at this point in my life - much better than morbidly obese, which sounds like one might drop dead at any moment!

I hope that everyone has had a wonderful first week of the new year and I wish yo... Sat, 7 Jan 2012 22:54:40 EST Another first... happened last Saturday - I ran/walked my first half marathon! Did it in 2:57:02 - much better than I expected. I would have been happy just to have finished it in under 4 hours - I had no idea of actually doing it in under 3 hours (not by much, but still under!)

Here is a photo of me coming up on the finish line - that line was a beautiful thing to see!

And I got a really nice finisher's medal... Sun, 6 Nov 2011 00:40:13 EST A week of ups and downs I haven't blogged in a while, so I won't try to detail everything that's happened over the last few months. Suffice it to say that life has been busy just being life, if you know what I mean.

So, this week...let's start with the downs, shall we?

Downs:

Knee pain kept me from running as much as usual
Gained back almost all the weight I've lost during the fall 5% challenge
Had to have a filling replaced

Ups:

The dental assistant a... Sat, 22 Oct 2011 22:59:04 EST I'm back! So, haven't been on good ol' SP for a while. I have still been workin' the program, just haven't had time to get on here and keep everything up-to-date. Work has been uber-hectic and there have been other priorities - as they say, life happens!

Despite not tracking anything for a couple of months, I have managed to maintain without putting on too many lbs. I have been running regularly and keeping an eye on my food intake most of the time and I am very pleased to find that I can do... Mon, 1 Aug 2011 18:35:20 EST Photos from my first 5K as a runner So, I actually did it...ran a 5K! Here are a few photos from that day:

This is before the race, when I still had some breath left in my body

This is a shot of the leader of the running clinic I attended. Unfortunately, it's
from the back, but the clinic motto for this year is on the back of her shirt - "Life is not the breaths you take, but the moments that take your breath away"
<B... Sat, 14 May 2011 21:15:32 EST Here's wishing everyone a great week! I kinda always dread Sunday night, 'cause I know I have to go to work the next day and start another work week all over again. Tonight, I realized that I'm not feeling so much that way and I think it's because I know I have runners clinic after work tomorrow. Who knew that I could actually look forward to exercising?!

I think I'm curious to see how well I do after doing the Spark virtual walk/run 5K on Saturday. The clinic level we were at last week was running 2.5 minutes, intersp... Sun, 17 Apr 2011 21:14:16 EST Checking in... to say thanks to all my SP pals who are still keeping up with me despite my lack of response. I am off work this week, so I have a bit of free time to say Hi to all of y'all!

213 247 220

I have been doing pretty well with the runners clinic. We are in our 6th week now and the group I am in is now walking 1.5 minutes and running 2 minutes. That makes a total of 18 minutes running each night this week.

I do find it frustrating that... Wed, 6 Apr 2011 00:09:21 EST With apologies to all my SP teams and friends I have been relatively inactive on here lately. I apologize for not huddling with my teams and for not keeping up with all my friends status updates and blogs. Life has gotten a lot busier of late and I find it difficult to maintain a daily contact with SP. I am still tracking my nutrition and fitness and I log in at least once a day to spin the points wheel and to play trivia.

Work has gotten much busier and there is no end in sight for that. In addition, I started a 10 week runne... Sat, 5 Mar 2011 10:13:25 EST Retail therapy, childhood memories and the promise of Spring Warning - long blog ahead!

This has been a great weekend for my psyche and a bad weekend for my credit card balance. Friday and Saturday I had some intense retail therapy sessions, which were probably only slightly cheaper than paying an actual therapist! I hit the President's Day sales at 4 different stores - I was on a mission for some pretty, springy clothes. I bought a dress, two skirts and a pair of long shorts! I have only recently begun wearing any type of leg-baring apparel... Sun, 20 Feb 2011 20:48:00 EST Warning - kvetching ahead! I knew it had to happen sooner or later, but I still don't like it. On Jan. 26, I hit my lowest weight yet - 243.2. The next Wednesday, I weighed again and it had crept up to 244.4. I decided to change my weigh-in day to Saturday so that it would fit the normal day for my 5% challenge weigh in - plus it gave me little extra time between weigh ins.

I did a no-no and got on the scale yesterday just to see where I was - oh joy, down to 240! I didn't count that on my weight tracker, si... Sat, 12 Feb 2011 15:39:27 EST Boot Camp challenge before photos I just joined the Official 28 Day Boot Camp Challenge. Here are the most recent photos I have - candid shots taken at a party in early January.

Here is a lovely side view of me laughing at my crazy friend's antics!

And here I am looking as though I'm in deep thought - unfamiliar territory that I get lost in!

<... Tue, 1 Feb 2011 23:06:53 EST I blew it last night! :-( First of all, I must apologize to my fellow Ladybugs. I will not reach the goal that I set for the winter 5% challenge, unless I lose 6 lbs by next Saturday (which seems unlikely at this point). Admittedly the goal I set was closer to a 7% loss, which was probably over-ambitious during the holiday and winter weather season.

Scond, I really did completely blow it yesterday. Note to self: don't buy a big bag of those vegetable straw chips and keep them within reach. I managed to eat... Sat, 22 Jan 2011 10:20:45 EST This is hilarious! I laughed till I cried reading these instructions for putting on a sports bra! TOO funny!!

ler.html
Fri, 7 Jan 2011 20:44:57 EST I'm so excited!! Finally hit that 80 lbs lost (with SP) goal! WooHoo!! I've already made my appointment for the half day of pampering at the spa. It's on for this Friday!! I can't wait!!! 334 Wed, 5 Jan 2011 22:54:21 EST Small gains and large gains This morning was official weigh in day and I stepped on the scale with some trepidation. I definitely ate more than usual over the last week and my exercise has been very hit or miss (mostly miss) due to holiday activities and rainy, cold weather. (Let's be honest, laziness played it's part also!)

Just as I feared, the scale showed a small gain of 4/10 of a pound. This was kinda hard for me to deal with - I have been blessed so far on my Spark journey and have never had a week with... Wed, 29 Dec 2010 12:08:21 EST Just purchased my next reward! I am within 4 lbs of my next goal (80 lbs lost with SP, 106 lbs lost total). In anticipation of seeing that number appear on the scale, I just purchased a spa package - 4.5 hours, which includes a 60 minute massage, a 60 minute facial, a manicure and a spa pedicure (and lunch)! OH YEAH!!!
You know I'll be shoutin' Hallelujah when I hit that goal! 334

Now, I just need to find someone to take me to the spa, then come get me, pour me into the car and take me back home... Thu, 23 Dec 2010 12:13:01 EST Lots of birthday goodies! So, it's official...I hit the big 44 yesterday! It's kinda funny, cause several of my friends had double digit birthdays this year - two of them turned 55 and one turned 88. Strange, huh?

Anyhoo, I got some really nice things for my birthday. My parents and my brother chipped in and got me a Garmin GPS for my car! This is a truly great gift, as I am very geographically challenged!! Plus, it has Bluetooth, so now I can talk on the phone without having to wear my little'... Mon, 6 Dec 2010 11:04:58 EST Rewards are sweet! I hit 60 lbs lost (with SP) one month ago today, but I haven't had the chance to get my reward until today. I finally got my facial this afternoon and it was WONDERFUL!! I think I'm hooked!

After 40 minutes of pampering, my face is so smooth and soft. She also massaged my shoulders, arms and hands with aromatic ointments and finished with a massage of my scalp. Did I mention that she also applied hot towels to my face and shoulders? Ahhhhhh...relaxing. 102

I'm... Fri, 3 Dec 2010 21:37:09 EST Any advice on running? I have started trying to run a little bit during my walks. On Thursday, I tried 3 very short runs while doing a mile walk around the building where I work. This caused my left knee to be sore enough later in the day that I skipped my usual cardio/ST workout in the evening. The knee was better on Friday, but still felt weak.

I think there were two things that may have contributed to the knee pain:

1. I wasn't wearing the new Asics running shoes that I bought recently. <BR... Sun, 21 Nov 2010 10:29:13 EST Before and after 91 lbs! (with pics) I had someone ask me a question today that was kinda hard to answer. First they asked me how much weight I had lost so far. That was an easy answer - 91 lbs (65 after joining SP in June 2010). Then they asked, "Are you proud of what you've done?"

This was the tough one. As I have mentioned on my main page, I lost 26 lbs without trying after I had my gallbladder removed. I don't digest fat as well as I did before my surgery, so I cut back on greasy foods to minimize some unpleasant ... Sat, 20 Nov 2010 00:29:26 EST In case you're curious... I enjoyed my first belly dancing class! I absolutely stink at it, but it was fun hip shimmying across the floor with the little coins jingling on our hip scarves. One of the ladies who went with me shimmied so much her scarf fell off! She just pulled it back up, tightened it and went right on shimmying!! 246

I definitely plan to go back. So, now I guess I'll have belly dancing on Mondays, yoga on Saturdays and two days of walking/ST in the middle of the week. Sounds lik... Mon, 1 Nov 2010 23:29:06 EST Happy thoughts and a new idea for cardio! Small things can make for big moments sometimes. I had a small, big moment on Friday morning. I was walking a path in one of the small parks close to my home and I had on a windbreaker jacket that I purchased and wore last winter. As I expected, about half a mile into my walk, the jacket became too warm. I took it off and was pretty much resigned to carrying it with me while I finished my walk. Just for grins and giggles, I decided to see if I could tie the sleeves around my waist, as I have ... Sat, 30 Oct 2010 22:26:14 EST So nice to be home! Thanks to everyone for your support on my last blog. It's wonderful to have so many people sending their best wishes and support my way. Thank you, thank you, thank you! 30

So, let's did I do on my goals for the weekend?

Goal 1: "I will take my walking shoes, my workout clothes and my yoga mat and be on the lookout for chances to get my exercise."

Result - I did find time on Thursday and Friday to get in some walking - 1.4 miles on Thursda... Sat, 23 Oct 2010 20:38:34 EST This weekend may challenge my goals Due to a death in the family, I will be traveling to another part of the state tomorrow and will probably be gone until Saturday. I will be in a small rural town with limited internet access and limited healthy food options. I'm sure that there will be a food-oriented family gathering after the funeral, which will certainly provide many gustatory temptations! Also, with traveling and being somewhat at the mercy of other people's schedules, I'm not sure how much exercise I will get accomplish... Wed, 20 Oct 2010 22:56:47 EST My 5K learning experience So, for those who are interested, I did complete my first 5K today (walking, not running). Here a few things that I learned:

1. As in real estate and in many other things, location is key...location, location, location! If I do this race again next year, I will position myself as close behind the runners as I can get, just to get out ahead of the pack.

2. Sometimes you just have to relax and enjoy the experience, rather than worrying about how fast you are walking. It's ... Sat, 16 Oct 2010 15:27:43 EST A serious blog I tend to try to write humorous blogs most of the time, but this one is serious. It is not my wish to offend anyone, but I need to publicly post my new goal. This is an area that I truly struggle with. I am a Christian and I believe that I should spend time every day talking with God and reading His words in the Bible. However, most days I find it all too easy to do everything else but that. Of late, I feel that I have focused too much of my time on improving my physical health, to the point ... Thu, 14 Oct 2010 22:02:04 EST A monster has been created... a shopping monster, that is. Now that I have the freedom to shop in almost any clothing store, I am finding that I may actually enjoy shopping for clothes (and purses and shoes and jewelry!)

Thanks to my best friend (and you know who you are, WJTTLT72!), I may have found a new place to get my shopping fix. I told her that I needed to shop for some new blouses and tops to wear to work. I bought new pants when they started threatening to fall off of me, but I hadn't bought many new t... Sun, 10 Oct 2010 12:16:55 EST Could it be the fabled "tipping point"? I keep hearing about this thing called a "tipping point". As I understand it, it refers to a point in time when the healthy lifestyle we are all shooting for becomes almost second nature to us. Suddenly, making healthy food choices is just something you do, not something you have to consciously struggle with all day long every day. Exercise becomes something that is a natural part of your life.

I didn't really think that I could ever get there, but I realized something today that g... Thu, 7 Oct 2010 13:44:31 EST Today was a wonderful day! I kicked my day off this morning with a nice, relaxing pedicure. Then I met up with my best friend for shopping, lunch and just hanging out all afternoon. We always have fun together, even when watching a boring movie. (Side note: Despite what you might expect, Ben Stiller is not always funny in his movies!)

I am so grateful for friends, both online and off.

247 to all of you!! 30 Fri, 1 Oct 2010 21:00:05 EST Thanking God for small blessings (new mats at the gym!) So, I'm getting ready to do my mat exercises at the gym tonight and I can't find the mats. Normally, they are piled up on the floor in a corner of the free weights section, right behind a punching bag - great spot, right?! I am always afraid I'm gonna reach for a mat and get clocked by some muscle-bound dude who's taking out his 'roid rage on the bag. Plus, the mats are all ancient and have all sorts of rips and holes in the covers - nice places for little beasties and bugs to hang out.
... Thu, 30 Sep 2010 22:30:10 EST This is my first "Gotta help the Lady Bugs Team get to the Grand Canyon" blog I am feeling pretty blessed today. It's been a great week goal-wise, despite an overly greasy lunch on Sunday. On Monday, I did my monthly measurements and found that 5 inches has melted off my waist! (We won't discuss the rolls of fat both above and below.) Today, I did my weekly weigh in and found that 5.4 lbs has vanished since last week!! I don't know how that happened - all I can say is, "Thank You, Lord!"

I want to thank all of you for your support and encouragement and kind ... Wed, 29 Sep 2010 21:12:38 EST Beware the tomato basil chicken! So, we went to a New Orleans-style restaurant for lunch today and I got the following entree:

TOMATO BASIL CHICKEN
Fresh grilled chicken breast served alongside angel hair pasta, tossed with plum tomatoes, fresh basil, olive oil, a touch of garlic butter and topped with Parmesan cheese.

Sounds fairly healthy, right? WRONG!!

First of all, the chicken wasn't alongside, it was artfully arranged on top, which meant that I couldn't get all the sauce off of it.... Sun, 26 Sep 2010 19:36:13 EST Warning! May contain mentions of body parts and/or undergarments There is one part of losing weight that I DO NOT enjoy! I think most women can relate to my pain when I say that shopping for new brassieres is a pain in the tushie!!

Is it truly so difficult to design a supportive bra without the use of underwires or thick, bumpy seams across the cups? I HATE underwires with a pink and purple polka-dotted passion! (More about the pink and purple polka dots later.) Every time I wear one, that stupid wire manages to figure out a way to poke or pinch... Sun, 19 Sep 2010 10:56:03 EST Cheating? Ok, so here's the scoop. I got my iPod in the mail yesterday and I really want to start using it. The problem is that my normal weigh-in day is Wednesday and, as of this Wednesday, I still had .9 lbs to go before I hit the 40 lbs lost goal. (The iPod is my reward for that goal).

Now, I have been trying to avoid weighing in more than once a week, but I cracked this morning (did I mention that I really wanna start using that iPod!). I got on the scale and it was kind to me. I have lo... Fri, 17 Sep 2010 09:02:45 EST New pics I asked a friend of mine to take some pics of my somewhat skinnier self. I think it's the first time in my life I actually asked someone to take a picture of me. Up to now, I have always tried to avoid any cameras that I am aware of. That really hasn't changed, but I wanted to see if I could really see a difference between where I was in Dec. 2009 and now. Unfortunately, the only picture I could find from Dec. 2009 was a head and shoulders shot that somebody snuck in during a meeting at work ... Thu, 9 Sep 2010 22:26:02 EST Downward facing dog, anyone? So, I made it through my first yoga class with minimal bloodshed and loss of life...I'm not sure if any of my dignity survived, however. For anyone out there who may think that yoga is for sissies, I just have one word - NUH-UH!

I actually did make it into downward facing dog, which was more than I expected. I'm not gonna lie and say it was easy and I imagine the instructor was wondering what the heck I was doing there, but I did it!

Actually the instructor was very nice... Mon, 6 Sep 2010 11:56:21 EST Clothes are cheaper now! For so many years, I have been forced to buy my clothes at stores that cater to the "plus size" figure. I am truly grateful that those stores exist and that they have become more aware of the need to provide styles that don't look like they belong on my dear old granny. I appreciate every figure-flattering top and every better-fitting pair of jeans that I have purchased from them!

Having said all that, let me try to explain how absolutely, totally, awesomely FANTABULOUS it feels to...
