BEWELL48's SparkPeople Blog BEWELL48's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Life must be lived one day at a time! Well, it has been 9 months since I have blogged but it is time for an update! Yes, I did leave my job last July. It has taken me a long time to settle in and live life without the stresses of my job. It certainly has not been as easy a I thought!
I had some health scares but now all resolved and on a road to a more healthier me! Joined a health club in my town. Great program called 60/60. It is 60 days for 60 dollars. There is a lot of oversight and support. I love it! Who would have tho... Sun, 1 Mar 2015 12:22:48 EST Big changes ahead for me! This has been a difficult year for me. My job is very demanding and I cannot find the work life balance I need. In addition to this my mother's dementia worsened and she was not able to continue living independently as she was. My siblings and I had to make the difficult decision to place her in long term care at a skilled nursing facility.
After much thought and deliberation I decided my only option was to leave my job and concentrate on my health and well being. So I passed in my lett... Sat, 7 Jun 2014 08:19:24 EST A message for women everywhere!

I am feeling overwhelmed today! Still working my 60 or so hours / week. My 93 yo mother fell and is at the hospital. Will be transferred to rehab, probably tomorrow. Spent the w/e visiting, coordinating, etc. when I opened my email this link appeared and wow, that is what I needed today! It is amazing that if we are open to what the universe sends, life is so much more tolerable!

your-lamp/?cm_mmc=ExactTarget-_-WK-_-0
2.23.14-_-OFY... Sun, 23 Feb 2014 14:15:28 EST Follow-up on last week's goals Well, I am disappointed that I did not do too well.
For my 5,000 steps/ day I did get a score of 5 out of 7. One day forgot to wear it so I could have done 5,000 steps but can't measure it so won't count it.
Water consumption much better but need to increase to be sure that every day I make the 8!
Most disappointing was my work schedule. Can say I only did one day less than 10 hours. The rest more with one day 13!
Going to use the same goals for this week and be sure I d... Mon, 3 Feb 2014 05:38:31 EST Goals for the last week of January 2014! Wow, the month is coming to a close. I am going to make it a good week! These are my SMART goals for the week (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timely).
1. Walk at least 5,000 steps a day measured on my FitBit.
I know for some of you this is not much at all but for me it can be somewhat challenging on Some days. Last week there were a couple of days at work that we had 4 hour planning meetings! Ugh! Those can't throw me off.... I need to find a way to get the s... Sun, 26 Jan 2014 07:55:38 EST Fit Bit challenge I had a fitbit, wore it faithfully and then it got "out of sync". Not sure why. Well I did email the company after numerous attempts to try and fix it myself. Never heard back from them. Had one of my kids look at it since they are more tech savvy than I am....but again to no avail. Today I was bound and determined to get it back to working right! I am proud to report I did it! My steps will be recorded again at last!
224 Sun, 19 Jan 2014 12:43:17 EST Weekend in Vermont! Last weekend, as a continuation of our 40th wedding anniversary, we got away to VT! My husband booked us at a hotel and our kids stayed at my sister's house, which was just the next town away. It was a delightful time! We shopped a bit, had some fabulous meals, played pool, bowled (just as we were all setting out for a hike it started to rain!), played board games, did a puzzle, took walks. The ladies all went for an afternoon spa treatment......I chose a hot stone message! Wonderful! Our chi... Sat, 16 Nov 2013 07:02:17 EST Wonderful Day, indeed! Well, today was our 40th wedding anniversary! My son and daughter told my husband & I that they wanted to take us to brunch in downtown Boston. Our third child lives with his new wife in DC and we were not expecting him but as we entered the French restaurant on Newbury Street there he was! Not only he and his wife but another 60 or so guests! They had planned the surprise party for relatives and friends to celebrate our great event! Amazing! Pictures framed for each table, a memory album wi... Sun, 8 Sep 2013 21:19:51 EST VACATION Realized I hadn't written anything this month. Not too much to say. Am taking next week off though and that is a good thing! Working 12 or so hours/day and my brain needs a rest! Will head to the Cape later today. Plan on reading, seeing some friends, walking on the beach and nature trails, sleeping! And then after that I will relax some more! (LOL).
I love the fall and some leaves have actually tuned!
Thanks to all the Spark support each day! Love this website!
252</em... Sat, 31 Aug 2013 10:33:08 EST One year Spark Anniversary! Well, I made it! One year on SP! I actually logged in every day! That is an accomplishment !
Still working a 'million hours per day and per week!' Only hope is that on my Second anniversary I will be retired from this job!
Thanks to all the wonderful support this site has to offer!
304 503 26
Tue, 16 Jul 2013 20:54:13 EST Wow... Almost there! Well, today is the last day of the month. So far I have written at least one blog each month and hear we are .....tomorrow is 7/1......gotta get something down!
My son's wedding on 6/15 was simply wonderful! Everything went so well! Amazing! I will try to post some pictures! A bit challenging! Uploading, downloading, FB, camera, iPhone, Internet, email.....just not enough hours of the day! At 64 this can be challenging!
Work is about 12 hours per day and still not completing tasks... Sun, 30 Jun 2013 22:15:19 EST A new attitude! Today is Memorial Day! I am at the Cape. Our house is opened for the summer. This is the third day I have not gone to the office! I so needed the break! Am grateful for my job, don't get me wrong but was experiencing burnout working 10 - 13 hours per day and not taking the weekends to decompress. So the sun is shining and I am going for a walk today! Maybe a little time working in my little garden. Spending time with my grandchildren who are with us this weekend, my son, my daughter and her ... Mon, 27 May 2013 09:22:14 EST Going in the right direction! Took today off! Been working way too much! Had a MD appt. this morning. Happy to report I am down 18 pounds from my all time high! Very slow but the scale is going in the right direction! My next appt. is in July for a yearly PE. Want to be sure more progress is made by then!
Today is my husband's birthday and we are going out tonight to celebrate! Always great when we are together!
Have a great weekend everyone!
30 252 Fri, 26 Apr 2013 12:13:00 EST Where are the daffodils? Realized I have not written a blog for March. There has been very little time in my life other than work lately. It is incredible to think that at 64 I could be working sooooo much! Well this week going to set some goals of taking a few "Me Moments"and being sure I make good choices when eating. Read somewhere not to think: diet and exercise but rather nutrition and this!
On a lighter note when I was at the conference in DC last week I got to see my son and his fiancé... Sun, 24 Mar 2013 08:58:49 EST Are you a Thermometer or a Thermostat? Are you a thermometer or a thermostat? Melanie Beattie wrote an interesting piece talking about the difference in the two. She said that people who are in the 'thermometer' category tend to reflect the attitudes of the company they keep. A thermometer on your back porch is only going to tell you the temperature outside but it can not do anything about it. On the other hand a thermostat can regulate the temperature depending on what is needed, either cooler or warmer. Likewise a person who is... Sat, 2 Feb 2013 09:26:38 EST Staying Optimistic "No pessimist ever discovered the secrets of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new heaven to the human spirit." ~ Helen Keller

As this year 2013 evolves I need to keep a positive attitude; grateful every day for all the good things in my life. I need to remember that impressive results come from small beginnings. Each day counts and as one of the spark coaches says....."Keep moving forward." (An original quote from Walt Disney!) Sat, 12 Jan 2013 09:33:01 EST Remember the Reason for the Season! So much to do and so little time to do it! Well, Christmas Day will come whether I am ready or not. So today I will do the best I can, finishing shopping, wrapping, food preparation and also the other chores that still need doing, cleaning, laundry, bill paying, etc. But what I must remember is that getting the 'perfect gift' for someone is not as important as sharing a hug with them on Christmas. Making the perfect dessert is far less important than just sitting and enjoying any dessert toge... Sat, 22 Dec 2012 08:23:38 EST Earn additional Spark Points! Just noticed this morning the new entry under "One Time Challenges" on the home page. It is called "tell us a little more about yourself". It doesn't take very long to complete. For doing so you can earn 250 Spark Points! Not bad I might add! Give it a go....nothing to lose!
244 250 104 Fri, 23 Nov 2012 21:19:39 EST Trip to DC My husband and I are flying to DC in the morning to visit my son and his fiancé. I am really looking forward to it. But right now I need to pack and am avoiding the task;why is that?
We will only be there until Monday morning. Early flight back. Have a conference to go to all day. So, do not need much but I guess I get hung up on weather and making sure I have everything I need. Just got to do it, get to bed and be up very early to make our flight.
Will take my iPad and hope to log... Fri, 2 Nov 2012 20:41:35 EST What Constitutes a Wonderful Day? First off I woke up to kisses from my two grandchildren. (They are with us every other weekend). Then my husband and I drove to downtown Boston to see The Dalai Lama at the Copley Marriott. (He had purchased the tickets for my birthday). First we were treated to about a half hour of songs from James Taylor. "You Can Close Your Eyes" and "You've Got a Friend " were two of the ones he sang.

"Hey ain't it good to know... Sun, 14 Oct 2012 19:37:20 EST Learn to labor and to wait! Let us, then, be up and doing
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.
~ Henry Wardsworth Longfellow

Disappointed that the scale did not show a weight loss today but must be patient. My food choices have been relatively good! Interesting though, I am not getting in my 8 glasses of water a day and my exercising has been lacking. At work there is a water cooler just steps from my office so there are no excuses there. ... Sat, 15 Sep 2012 12:11:20 EST September Resolutions "September resolutions ask only that we be open to positive change."
S. Ban Breathnach
This will be my focus for the month. I love September! The cooler, less humid days, the changing foliage (I live in MA) and the Fall Season! Both my birthday and anniversary are in September. I joined SP 7/16 and have logged in daily. Some days I do better than others when it comes to food and lifestyle choices but I have seen a positive change overall. I will challenge myself to get in some mor... Sat, 1 Sep 2012 13:50:34 EST Determined! Well, this is my last week of having extra time for ME! Next week I am returning to work after having been off on an FMLA. I am an RN working in a FT management position.
I found SP during this time away from the high pressured, stressful, ever changing healthcare environment where I will be spending my days again. And even though I will not have nearly as much time I am DETERMINED to focus on my goals and achieve success in my weight loss by following healthy choices one day at a tim... Mon, 13 Aug 2012 15:04:11 EST Weigh-in day Stepping on the scale with anticipation but hope and so happy to be down 4 lbs! These are the first pounds lost in this journey of many. But unlike in times past when I would then want to grab a 'food treat' to celebrate, I am going to walk today and make healthy choices. There are delicious raspberries and blueberries awaiting me for breakfast to add to some cottage cheese. The farmer's market is today and will plan to shop for some fresh produce! Thank you SP, today I am grateful! Wed, 1 Aug 2012 08:05:57 EST Day #15, feeling grateful! Well, today marks day #15 since I first logged onto the SP website and I am grateful I did! Two weeks ago I was unsure of what it was all about but took a chance and feel I got lucky! In these two weeks I have earned over 1,000 spark points and now am on level 5 but more importantly have gotten the kick start I needed to get on track with more mindful eating and a desire to include some exercise into my daily routine. Wednesday I will weigh myself and feel confident the scale will show some l... Mon, 30 Jul 2012 11:41:26 EST It's a good day! Woke early and could not get back to sleep but got up and decided to get some things done! By 9:00 had put out the trash, done a few errands and then took a wonderful walk on the beach for 45 minutes! So grateful! Fri, 27 Jul 2012 11:40:18 EST
