BECKYR16's SparkPeople Blog BECKYR16's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Breakfast ideas Today I realized I hadn't eaten breakfast and had about 1 minute to leave. So I went for my basket of bars that I bought when I was home at Christmas.

I'm down to 2 more Luna bars (the breakfast of running late champions). And so, I need some ideas of things I can make ahead of time and take with me. Things like breakfast bars and cookies are good. Things like eggs and oats are much harder when I'm running late like that.

Any ideas, friends? Wed, 21 Mar 2012 21:58:10 EST Challenge Day 3 Today's update:
2 meals finished with tea (well bottles of cold, I didn't want to heat water)
no exercise

That brings me to:
5/10 meals finished with tea
50/120 minutes of exercise (2/6 days)

We'll see if I'm going to make it exercise-wise. I got kind of out of the habit of doing something everyday over the last few weeks when my car died and it got significantly harder to get to the gym. Gotta get back to finding fun things to do.

The fri... Wed, 28 Sep 2011 08:52:21 EST Challenge Day 2 As of today I have:
3/10 meals finished with tea
50/120 minutes of exercise finished (2/6 days)

In other news:
After almost 2 months and my fridge dying, my BOE has purchased a new one which will be here tomorrow. Still frustrated with how they handled the whole thing, but glad to have a working one again.

Getting closer to purchasing a new car. I just have to figure out the next step of the paperwork. Tue, 27 Sep 2011 09:15:17 EST Challenge Day 1 Last week, I read about a spark friend trying to change her signal for the end of a meal to something other than sweets. I was inspired and thought I should change to tea.

I told another friend about this and she decided to join me.

Then we decided to turn it into a mini competition: whoever meets less of their exercise and tea goals. Has to buy the other a tea. But, if we're not going to see each other in real life that week, then we switch to something on spark. <BR... Mon, 26 Sep 2011 07:48:19 EST Running advice? A while back I started doing the c25k training. I did really well for the first few weeks and then traveled with my running shoes and a pair of sandals, going back and forth between the two.

During the trip, while squatting down to take a picture my arch started hurting. I kept running anyways and continued to have pain while running.

I got insoles. The top was leather. When the weather got hot, I started to get blisters.

Last week, I got a new pair of shoe... Mon, 1 Aug 2011 20:50:06 EST Yum! I don't know how many of you have Spaghetti Factory in your area, but ever since I was little my family has been going there.

They make very yummy Italian food. But one of the best things is their Pesto Dressing that you can get on salads. I'm sure it's terrible for you, but since I don't have it very often, I don't worry too much.

Anyways, after making homemade pesto last week, I decided to try making something similar to the dressing.

I mixed the pesto I m... Wed, 29 Jun 2011 07:40:39 EST Sorry! Hey Sparkfriends,

Sorry for my lack of being around lately. Life has been busy: I've been running, trying out my new camera, working, studying Japanese and doing more things away from my computer. I'll try to be better about updating.

This weekend I headed with some friends to a nearby town to help put on an International Festival. We had several booths: USA, Dominican Republic, New Zealand and a few others. Though we didn't like the rain so much, we had a good time an... Sun, 19 Jun 2011 10:03:41 EST A random collection of thoughts My run went really well today. I was amazed at how far I got today, though the second half wasn't quite so fun, because I had switched from seeing how far I could get, to knowing I just had to return, which is so much less exciting.

Other than that, fun visit with the second graders at my big school. They are so cute and they got "How are you?" surprisingly better than the third graders did. I'll have to repeat my improvements on this lesson with other classes.

And in ... Wed, 15 Jun 2011 08:34:53 EST Osaka Run
This was where I ran on the first day of our trip, in Osaka. It was a beautiful place to run.

That seems to be all I can get to work right now. I'll try to post a few more from my trip later. (Grr!)

Mon, 6 Jun 2011 09:01:22 EST c25k Week 6 day 3 It's been a while since I posted a blog.

I did week 6 day 3 about 3 weeks ago and it hurt. I didn't feel good and I just wanted to quit.

I repeated the interval days from weeks 5 and 6 the last couple of weeks to gear up to try it again.

I finally did it again!!!

Last time it felt like FOREVER. This time it felt great and I was surprised how quick I was finished.

Last time my arches hurt and I wanted to stop. This time my body felt go... Fri, 3 Jun 2011 05:20:59 EST Week4 Day1 When looking at today's run, I thought 5 minutes? I'm gonna die!

My run went something like this.

Start, walk a slightly different route - down what is essentially main street, I've realized no one is really up before 7. First run just before I get to the one stop light in town. It turns red just as I get there. Boo!

So I turn and take a slightly different route, turning down the next street and winding back around.

Second run comes about and it'... Sun, 24 Apr 2011 19:58:11 EST I never thought I'd say this . . . Today I decided to sleep in and didn't exercise - as I lay in bed contemplating it, sleepy me reminded healthy me that I had done two days of strength training and I could afford a laying in bed staying warm day (I've been crazy cold the last couple of days - I blame the humid cold). So I stayed in bed.

I couldn't believe how much I missed it and on top of that how all kinds of stupid things were annoying me. So I left work for a bit and walked to the post office and the bank - in ... Fri, 22 Apr 2011 07:07:10 EST c25k Week 2 day 2 I did it! Again it took me a bit to get my lazy self out of bed, but I did it!

This week has a lot more walking than last week. I kinda wonder why. But I know others have done this program and succeed, so I'm going for it still!

I weighed in this morning and found that I now have exactly 3 pounds to go to reach my goal. The funny thing is, if I get stuck at this weight, I wouldn't be unhappy. We'll see what happens. Tue, 12 Apr 2011 19:49:44 EST C25K - Week 1 finished! Crazy week this week!

I started with a run on Monday and the schedule was working out ok, I got out of bed a bit slower than I wanted to, but I went out and did my run anyways. It felt good and I was surprised at how easy it was compared to what I was expecting.

Tuesday the routine got messed up when I overslept. I right-ed that with strength training in the evening and felt good.

Wednesday I made it out, though I was tired. It felt good, but my body was so... Fri, 8 Apr 2011 21:22:57 EST C25k Week1 Day1 Yesterday I did my first C25K run. It wasn't nearly as hard as I expected and I actually enjoyed it for the majority of the time.

The best part though was all the energy I had for the rest of the day. I found myself having great fun dancing around. Especially to the song "Hold Me" by Jamie Grace. Great song that I highly recommend both for dancing and running.

Though, on my 4th bike ride between home and work - headed home for the day (going, home/back from lunch and t... Mon, 4 Apr 2011 22:35:03 EST Trouble goals Today I got the email about blogging about a trouble goal. Right now, mine is getting up on time. Thankfully, it doesn't make me late, but it does cause me to not start my day well and then to miss out on some of the things I want to do in the morning. With the addition of working toward a c25k goal, I'm going to need to be up in the morning.

What my morning usually looks like: I start by trying to get up at 6:30 (this has been pushed back recently), then hit the snooze again and ... Wed, 30 Mar 2011 21:27:56 EST Earthquake On Friday afternoon at about 2:45 Japan had an earthquake, which has now been determined to be magnitude 9, the strongest earthquake Japan has experienced (since they've been measuring). I was siting at my desk when my school started to shake, though nothing like in the areas around Sendai (see map below).

For my area, it was like being on a boat, everything was shaking, yet nothing was falling. It was kind of exciting. After it was over, I did what I always do and got online to fi... Sun, 13 Mar 2011 21:04:10 EST Today's lunch Yesterday, I realized I didn't have anything planned for today's lunch that was already prepared. So I thought for a few minutes and realized I could make my breakfast plan into my lunch.

So I made a bento with quiche! Usually Japanese people fill the bottom of their bento box with rice, but I knew I didn't need that much rice, so I added red peppers and some cheese to the top. I also have a bit of pineapple and some poky. Yum!

<img src=" Wed, 23 Feb 2011 19:53:09 EST Strength training and annoying knees After a not so happy skiing tumble on the hill almost a month ago, I twisted or did something annoying to my knee.

It didn't really bother me when skiing or walking but when snowboarding it said, "knock it off!"

I was telling a friend about this and she suggested a couple of ways I might be able to strengthen it. I went looking online and found a few exercises to do and did them everyday in the last week and a half.

This weekend we went out and I felt great!... Mon, 21 Feb 2011 08:29:30 EST Toe-side Yesterday, my good friend taught me toe-side. I didn't go very far, but it's a start.

Today I practiced some and learned to turn. I can't wait to get out and practice again! :) Sun, 20 Feb 2011 06:44:15 EST Finished! Today, I got the info and finished my taxes. Last year there were a ton of forms to fill out because I was a foreign resident. This year, it's much simpler and better yet, FINISHED!

One thing off the list :) Mon, 14 Feb 2011 00:21:53 EST I did it!

These are the results from the Japanese test I took 3 months ago. I passed!!!! Sat, 12 Feb 2011 20:26:45 EST Dreaded strength training. I don't really care for strength training. I'll make no secret of that. I'd rather be moving than just (feels like) sitting around lifting weights and such.

Today I sat down at my computer and picked 6 new strength training moves - spark people only had me doing legs, despite my request for all body workouts 2 days a week.

I ended up having so much fun that I basically danced around my tiny apartment in between because the music was super motivating. I gotta remember th... Thu, 10 Feb 2011 05:54:08 EST I want to snowboard! Two weeks ago on the slopes, skiing with my students, I seemed to have twisted my knee. I decided not to worry about it and ski that day anyways.

Since then, walking and skiing have not been problems at all. But I've gone out a couple of times on my board and it's hurt. I won't get to go out today because of other plans, but I'm hoping to go out tomorrow.

Will it feel any better? I hope so!

2/20 update - I went out this weekend and having taken a break sinc... Wed, 9 Feb 2011 02:57:09 EST A hungry, but trying to lose weight person's best friend! Nabe!

It's a Japanese dish which basically means grab a pot and throw bunches of stuff in it. I grabbed a bunch of the things I've had at various places when they serve nabe - tofu, a couple of kinds of mushrooms, a onion, a leek and a bunch of cabbage, stuck some nabe broth (you could use any kind of broth) in and set it to cook. Mine was Curry and it was super tasty and warm on a cold day. I love food like that! In total, for about three bowls of it, I was somewhere around 250 ca... Fri, 5 Nov 2010 08:07:38 EST Kyushoku (school lunch) Today, I had school lunch with my kids. It's such a fun chance to hang out with them and be silly. My Japanese level is pretty low, so I communicate some with them in Japanese, but more often I'm just silly.

After all the fun of having lunch with them, I arrived home to discover I had eaten somewhere around 800 calories for lunch with my kids. "What?!?" I thought.

Now it leaves me with a large desire to get off of school lunch for my health and daily calories, but part ... Thu, 4 Nov 2010 04:56:55 EST
