THANK YOU SPARKERS!

Sat, 27 Oct 2012 18:05:00 EST So hot outside yet still motivated to move It's been in the 90's for well over a week here in lovely Pittsburgh. I don't mind the summer really, but I do mind extremes. I mentioned in my previous blog about the migraines I get, they are definitely multiplied in this weather. Even so, I want to run and work out everyday? Who is this person? I've been so motivated lately, I love it! Even as the almost daily afternoon headache approaches I still dawn my workout clothes and head to the gym thinking "even if I can get a few min on the elli... Sat, 7 Jul 2012 12:32:28 EST Firecracker 5K I ran in my 3rd 5K on Wednesday. Kind of disappointed with the "official" results because I'm not sure they properly tracked my start time. Results state 38:13 which I'm sure that's when I crossed the finish line after at least a 2 min lag at the start. Oh well. My RunKeeper gave me these results which I'm more satisfied with:
Mile 1 11:31
Mile 2 12:22
Mile 3 11:31
No official end time on the RK because I was too concerned with getting water and forgot to stop the timer, o... Fri, 6 Jul 2012 11:37:53 EST Almost to mid-2012 Been meaning to blog for awhile! I'm home alone with a ton of cleaning to do, so obviously this is the perfect time to blog lol. So much has been going on! Just got back last week from a week at the beach. I'm so super proud to report that me and Mike ran EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Between running and walking probably at least 4-5 miles each day. So proud! We vacation in Long Beach Island, NJ. There is a perfect stretch of road parallel to the beach to run on, the weeks prior to vacation I was dream... Sun, 24 Jun 2012 11:49:02 EST 2012 So Far 2012 hasn't been going exactly how I planned, but I wouldn't call it a total fail. At the end of January I had LASIK vision correction, pretty awesome. I went from only being able to read up close without wearing glasses/contacts to being able to see 20/15! LASIK came with a catch though (of course, doesn't everything?), I had to wear glasses for 2 weeks prior so my eyes could go back to their normal shape. Since I'm a (or used to be? lol) a contact wearer, the eyes take the shape of the cont... Tue, 28 Feb 2012 11:18:04 EST Start of 2012! This blog has been a week in the making, just haven't had a good chance to sit down and type. I have a few minutes before the Steeler game starts so here goes nothin'! 2011 was a pretty good year for me, my biggest goal was to train for and run a 5K which I did over the summer with the race in September. It felt great actually finishing something for once in my life so why am I not doing this more?! I really want to get this healthy lifestyle thing down during this year, as I'm turning 30 in ... Sun, 8 Jan 2012 16:40:37 EST Work Food Days are Killing Me I just need 1 meal to sabatoge everything. This started last Tuesday, work provided lunch. I had a plan and semi stuck to it but definitely over ate. Thursday we had "dessert day" at work which is really just food day. It started at 10 and by 10:15 I had a full plate. Gross! I was supposed to run that night but never made it out AND had pizza for dinner. Only exercised once all weekend and didn't make the best of food choices, I'd say maybe 50/50. Made some SP spinach and artichoke dip the ot... Wed, 14 Dec 2011 10:47:34 EST A good workout inspires me to do better... I went to the gym for the first time in months today! I've been running so much outside there wasn't much need for a gym, but it's been raining nonstop for days in Pittsburgh so it was time. I started with a walking warm up, then ran around 2 miles on the treadmill. I wasn't really counting so I'm not sure exactly how far I went but it felt great! Last time I ran on the treadmill I came home with shin splints, no pain at all today. Plus I know I ran faster than I normally do. I normally do a... Sun, 2 Oct 2011 17:09:04 EST Running Group is Over, Race is on Sunday...what's next?! Last night was our last group run for 5K training, even in a downpour we had an awesome run! I still hate it (lol) and it takes about 30 minutes to start feeling really comfortable, but the feeling at the end makes it all worth it for sure. Race Day is Sunday, normally I'm super nervous for everything and I'm sure I'll have some nerves on Sunday morning but I am really excited!! It's going to be awesome running through the streets of Pittsburgh with 18K other runners. We found out last ni... Tue, 20 Sep 2011 08:09:34 EST Lots going on, almost race day! Hi Sparkers! I'm nearing the end of my C25K program so I thought it was an appropriate time for an update. At this point I've already run 5K, just not in an official race. Last Monday we did 3.6 miles between running 40 minutes and the warm up/cool down. Last night we did 45 minutes of straight running, not sure what the official length was but we typically average 12 min miles. I feel amazing!! It does take about 35 minutes of running for me to start feeling good but I imagine the more... Tue, 13 Sep 2011 08:28:40 EST Dinner Tonight

Mike is off playing disc golf so I made this delicious feast. It's my fav recipe from the Olive Garden only made with whole wheat spaghetti.

taly/Recipes/Main-Dishes/Capellini-Pom
odoro/

The bread is the very small end of a sour dough loaf from TJ's. Of course I made enough for lunch tomorrow, it's hidden in the fridge (don't tell Mike!) Wed, 31 Aug 2011 19:44:56 EST Summer! It's been a while! Since I last blogged I've been in a wedding, on 2 vacations and joined a 5K running group, phew. Glad the wedding and vacations are over. Vacation was great but I missed home and my babies (dogs). I did manage to work out while away! In preparation for the upcomping 5K group I did some early C25K workouts; 3 on vacation #1 and only 1 on vacation #2 but we did do a lot of walking.
So running group has been going on since the last week in June, it's great! We mee... Wed, 27 Jul 2011 13:40:46 EST I'm bored, therefore I blog! I haven't blogged in awhile, what's up with that?! I've just been quietly lurking and earning my points on Spark, so I apologize for not keeping up with blogs and such like I usually enjoy doing. I've been pretty busy lately. I'm in my friends wedding on June 11 and let me tell you, it's taking over my life. I am not a wedding person at all so this is all very painful for me lol. The shower was a few weeks ago, bachelorette party is this Philly of all places. I live in Pitt... Tue, 17 May 2011 11:27:43 EST Rehearsal Dress Take 2 I returned the dress I posted a few months back, just wasn't a big fan of it. I bought another is amazing!! Ahhh I'm not even a dress person, but this one makes me happy haha

What do ya think?
Fri, 15 Apr 2011 13:30:31 EST March = Fail I'm not really sure what's been going on with me lately. February ended so well; I had over 1000 fitness minutes, I was tracking and planning most of my meals, I was starting to firm up, clothes were fitting nicer, etc. Then it all fell apart. I barely have 400 fitness minutes this month. I haven't been tracking or planning meals. My belly, legs and arms aren't feeling as firm as a few weeks ago. I haven't even been that active on Spark. Why did I let everything go downhill when I was ... Wed, 30 Mar 2011 09:21:25 EST Outside Run #3 Today was much easier! My legs felt better, I didn't feel like a baby as much either, score! I found a new iPod app for my Touch that lets me create my own intervals and have upbeat or slower songs to go with them. My workout was shorter than I thought it would be but I added some jogs at the end so with some editing the workout will be good to get me used to running outside again.

300 second walking warm up
90 second jog
60 second walk
90 second jog
60 sec... Mon, 21 Mar 2011 18:35:13 EST Running outside adventures I got my shoes exchanged yesterday for a half size larger so this morning I was itching to attempt running outside again. I really love my shoes but my shin is hurting again, ugh! I think it has a lot to do with my stride though. When I'm on the treadmill I jog around 5.2 so I have a longer stride which seems to help a lot. When I'm outside I'm a big baby and am probably jogging about 4.0 if that. My stride is really short. At the end of C25K (today I went back to Week 4) I walked a lit... Sun, 20 Mar 2011 11:13:16 EST Running outside brought out the baby in me With gas prices being so high right now I've been trying to go to the gym less. I finally got fitted for running shoes so I am ready to start C25K outside rather than driving to the gym and doing it on the treadmill. My boyfriend came with me for "moral support" (aka he was avoiding P90X). I picked W5D1 (intervals of 5 min jogs and 3 min walks) thinking I've run 10+ minutes at a time on the treadmill, this should be a piece of cake. Um, disaster! First of all, the shoes I got fit perfect... Tue, 15 Mar 2011 09:37:12 EST It's Monday, I'm at work...and happy? Yes - Monday and work means gym and back to normal! I have been really idle over the past week or so. Barely going to the gym, not making good food choices (hello cheeseburger on Fri and fried food on Sat). I think I've just been in a bit of a funk but I'm SO ready to be over it! I have my normal healthy work food and snacks packed for today. Gym clothes are sitting here next to me, I'm ready to go! My shins are still bothering me so I'll be avoiding the treadmill tonight and getting my... Mon, 7 Mar 2011 10:37:49 EST Change in Plans Yesterday I was really looking forward to going to the gym yesterday...until I got a call that my grandma was sick and on her way to the hospital :( She was a little delusional and apparently sat in her bathtub from Monday night until my mom found her yesterday afternoon. She thought she was on a trip and was wondering when she could go home (she's 88 by the way). She was taken to the hospital, her vitals were fine, tests came back fine and they're saying she has pnemonia. Hopefully they hang on to... Wed, 2 Mar 2011 08:34:43 EST March! So I'm pretty excited about the new month. Normally I don't care too much and just go about my business but February was probably my healthiest month ever. I exercised for over 1000 minutes, tracked/planned food and kept my Spark. Yesterday I didn't log my food or have my normal protein filled Boca burger for lunch. I was hungry mid-day (of course...darn leftovers) and instead of heading to the vending machine I had a breakfast bar from my emergency stash at work. For dinner we only had ... Tue, 1 Mar 2011 09:16:11 EST Already a better day than yesterday Even though today hasn't been eventful it's been better than yesterday. I could not pull myself out of my C25K funk yesterday! I DID do a lot of good things yesterday but there I was focusing on the bad, blah. I saved up calories because we were eating at Mike's parents (his mom is the type to get offended if I don't eat, so I just pace myself throughout the day instead). We had a fantastic dinner and a great time in general. As soon as I got home I was back in the funk! I blogged about... Mon, 21 Feb 2011 14:05:09 EST Bad Day Today kind of sucked. I woke up around 9, putzed around a little after a healthy breakfast then headed off to the gym. At the gym I thought I'd give the 25 min jog a go. I started out good, jogging at 12miles/hour. I had to stop at 9 minutes, the music on my iPod got messed up so I fixed that then quickly got back to jogging. The whole time my shins bothered me to the point where I had to stop after about 13 minutes. I ended up leaving immediately, crying in my car and depressed all af... Sun, 20 Feb 2011 20:54:48 EST 25 min jog attempts I got like NO sleep on Sunday night but for some exhausted reason I was determined to gym it up and continue my C25K progress. I was hoping to do the W6D3 25 minute jog. I started out really well, jogging at a 5.0 (12 min/mile) which is a comfortable pace where I can keep a long stride. I did stop at 10 minutes to stretch and have some water but I won't beat myself up over that...I'm sure when I'm running a real 5K I'll be stopping for water then too! I ended up stopping with 5 minutes le... Tue, 15 Feb 2011 09:37:04 EST C25K Progress Technically I'm on week 7 of C25K but I hit a little bump in the road recently. I posted a status update last week about trying to find a lost dog in the neighborhood. Some more details, I had been walking my own dogs when I spotted this dog. He was wandering around near a busy street and people were just watching him (ugh). So I ran my dogs home (a few blocks) and ran back up to try and find the dog. 45 minutes later I hadn't seen him at all and I was EXHAUSTED. I live in a very hilly ... Thu, 10 Feb 2011 07:47:26 EST I think I've found it... Runners high!! Ahhhh! I've felt like crap all day, I've pretty much had a migraine for 3 weeks straight. Thursday is a gym day but all day I talked myself out of it. I had to go to my parents house to drop stuff off for my sister then I was just going to hang out there for a little bit. After sitting down for a few minutes I thought this is stupid, take yourself to the gym immediately! Off I went, at first I thought I'd only do a little bit on the treadmill or elliptical but why not jus... Thu, 27 Jan 2011 18:38:37 EST Focusing on the Negative Like so many people I tend to focus on the negative...of EVERYTHING. I hate this, I hate that, blah blah. In particular I've really been focusing on a lot of negative rumors and gossip recently at work. It's really stressing me out! I work with a lot of gossipy office ladies (ugh) so I'm not sure I can avoid it completely. What I have been doing is keeping to my small little crew of trustworthy folk or just keeping completely to myself. Our companys Weight Race is starting soon, natural... Thu, 6 Jan 2011 09:17:39 EST Haircut and misc I've been seeing the same girl for over 5 years for haircuts/dye, etc. She's amazing but she changes salons left and right. The last change was the last straw. This new place isn't close to my house, the manager is weird and regular haircuts are 50 bucks. Crazy!! So for the past few cuts I've been a salon free agent. I tried a place on the other side of town and really tried convincing myself that I liked it since it was so cheap...until I was in almost tears yesterday morning over my a... Wed, 29 Dec 2010 07:54:46 EST Dress I've very bored at work so I thought I'd post a picture of the dress I ordered last night for my friends rehearsal dinner in the summer:

Super cute! I got it in deep purple, I can't wait until it comes in the mail (along with my other after Christmas online purchases which I had no business making!) I hope everyone had a great Christmas. Mine was pretty calm and uneventful. I've been working on a col... Mon, 27 Dec 2010 15:07:18 EST Great week! AHHH I just typed up this great, positive blog and it disappeared and didn't save, BOO!! I'm frustrated now lol

Okay, hmm what did I write? I had a really great day yesterday. I've been tracking my food and exercising. I found out early in the day that my sisters were ordering Applebees for dinner so I invited myself over. We all ordered from the under 550 calorie menu and the entrees were REALLY good, I couldn't believe it! I got the aisago peppercorn steak and the girls had... Thu, 16 Dec 2010 09:08:39 EST Good Spark Day! I actually had a good day in the world of Spark today. Logged my food and stuck close to my meal plan...forgot to add things for dinner (like rice and corn, derr) during the pre-plan stages BUT I had plenty of breathing room in my ranges. Woo hoo! I have lunches packed for tomorrow already - just need to look thru some recipes that I printed last week and I'll have dinner figured out too. I drank over 10 glasses of water and also exercised for around 50 minutes. I had to go with OnDemand... Mon, 13 Dec 2010 21:05:45 EST C25K...again! Welp I've started C25K over again this morning. My last stab at it only took me to week 5 but it took about 4 months to get there...weak! The plan now is to actually do it 3x/week like you're supposed to instead of whenever I feel like it. W1D1 was pretty easy today as expected. I actually looked forward to the one minute runs and was bored during the walks. I ended up running an extra minute but I'm being careful not to push it too much so I actually stay on course. While I was running... Sat, 4 Dec 2010 17:10:06 EST Waahhhh I am moody today. It's been a bad few weeks for exercising. Mike's grandpap died on the 13th. Last week was a whirlwind of emotions, food and funeral. It was sad; he was 91.5, lived an amazing life and died at home just as he always wanted to. I was upset with the lack of support from coworkers - friends and family were great. My coworkers didn't understand for some reason. I guess they don't get that Mike and I are basically married and have known each other for 5 years now. His fami... Mon, 22 Nov 2010 19:54:02 EST C25K W5D2 ...was SO hard yesterday! Oh boy, those 8 minute runs are rough! I managed to run straight thru the first 8 minute run but the second one was not as easy. I had to stop twice to stretch out my legs. My shins get stiff very easily so they need a little coaxing to get thru. I think before I move to D3 (20 min run yikes) I'll redo D2 at least once. After completing C25K I stayed on the treadmill for another 25 min. My gym is awesome, there's a bunch of TV's lined up and you can plug your ... Tue, 5 Oct 2010 08:00:36 EST October Yay for the start of a new month and week. I need to really re-evaluate my goals and dedication to exercising. I still think I have the eating well part down. Last week for example, I went to the ARL on Monday where I prob only walked for about 20 min total. Then I did C25KW5D1 on Tuesday. That was it for exercise. Is that really going to get me to lose 15lbs? That's a big fat no.

Starting today I'm making a serious effort to go the gym more. My current goal is 2x/week bu... Mon, 4 Oct 2010 11:45:40 EST Weekend and C25K Week 5 Ahh, the scale actually moved a little downward today! I was very excited to see that! Of course I still have a far way to go but a little movement always provides for a lot of motivation. I'm off work today which is awesome; haven't had much sleep the past few nights and we're leaving to spend the weekend at a college friends new house. I'm going to miss my puppies! They will be in good hands, Tux is going to Mike's parents and Lily is going to my parents. Probably won't get a lot of e... Fri, 24 Sep 2010 09:56:11 EST Slacker Ugh, these past 2 weeks have not been good in the exercise world! In fact it's been that long since I've been to the gym and really gotten any exercise worth mentioning. Everyday that I had gym plans something came up, UGH! Tonight I'm not taking no for an answer. I'm going to the gym then I'm walking dogs afterwards, no ifs ands or buts!

On the food front I've been fine - I really need to start lower carbs though!

On the weight front I haven't gained any but I h... Mon, 13 Sep 2010 10:49:29 EST Compliment! One of my huge motivators right now is being in my friends wedding in June. I'm pretty excited; but we're wearing short dresses. I am SO not a dress person + I hate my legs = bad news lol My legs have always been muscular but over the years I've fallen lazy and they've gotten a littly chunky. Since joining the gym I've been working a lot on legs in preparation for this event.
ANYWAYS my boyfriend tells me last night that since I joined the gym he can already see a change in my legs... Fri, 3 Sep 2010 08:23:39 EST Did I drink a Red Bull in my sleep?! I have SO MUCH energy this morning! Wow! I'm normally not super exhausted in the mornings (I'm still in denial but I'm totally a morning person) but this morning I can not move fast enough. This is probably thanks to my awesome workout at the gym yesterday. I went with my sister; we did 25 minutes on the treadmill (only 7.5 running, blah), then worked out on most of the ab and leg machines. She had to leave but I was feeling great and wanted to stay longer so I did an extra 30 minutes on... Wed, 25 Aug 2010 08:21:51 EST August Updates I'm not sure how well I'm doing with the goals I set for myself in August but I can say that I feel great! I'm so happy I decided to join the gym. Every time I go I have a great workout and I don't really want to leave lol. I was going to go again tomorrow after work until I remembered that I have a phone interview set up at 4. If I went afterwards it would be too crowded so I'll just walk dogs tomorrow night and do the gym on Tuesday. Luckily I have several days off coming up, this Fri -... Sun, 22 Aug 2010 18:36:31 EST Good Weekend, Crappy Day Updating my previous blog, I joined the gym! I got my happy butt up early and went with my sister on Saturday morning. We both did the treadmill for about 40 minutes (mostly walking but I think I did some jogging intervals for around 14 minutes or so) then some stretching. It was miserably hot again in Pittsburgh so the heat was giving me a migraine and I didn't want to stay long. I went again yesterday and did 60 minutes total - 5 walking and 5 jogging intervals. It felt great! I think... Tue, 17 Aug 2010 18:37:13 EST To Join or Not to Join? Alright Spark Friends I need your input!!

A Planet Fitness gym has opened down the street from my parents house. My parents live about 20 minutes from me (depending on traffic of course) and my work is smack in the middle so it's convenient to home and work. My sister and dad have both joined. It's $1 to join, $10/month with a $29 annual fee.

Two concerns - I'm lazy and won't go and I'm pretty poor right now. I've been dying for a gym to open near me so I can use t... Fri, 13 Aug 2010 10:16:01 EST August Goals So I'm Sparking on a Saturday night before (maybe) going out for my sisters birthday. Banana bread is cooling on the counter and I just made some delicious Hungry Girl Luau Pizzas which are my new favorite food for the week. ...when did I get so domestic?!

Tomorrow starts a new month so I'd like to take a chance to write down some goals for myself. If you read my blogs you know I made weekend goals a few weekends ago and amazingly doing so kept my ass in gear. This month I'll ... Sat, 31 Jul 2010 22:16:34 EST FRIDAY! Thanks for the encouragment on my blogs people! It really does help me :)

Last night I get home from work and feel like a lazy, tired lump...AGAIN! Didn't even want to make dinner so I ordered pizza (stayed well below my limits, it's okay!). Afterwards I'm thinking to myself, this is ridiculous. There's no reason other than it's hot out and I'm lazy that I'm so tired. I cleaned up the house and popped in an unopened walk away the lbs dvd that I got for Christmas. Um, it was 5... Fri, 23 Jul 2010 13:49:22 EST My week so far I kicked butt on my weekend exercise goals last week! I did everything I wanted to...even C25K which was a struggle! It's been so hot here I have to get up around 7 to get it done while it's still cool outside. But I did it! ...and haven't done much since. Wtf? At the beginning of this week I was SO tired when I got home from work I could barely make dinner. One of Mike's hockey teammates (aka water sharer, is that a word lol) has mono so we were starting to get worried. But I felt gr... Thu, 22 Jul 2010 10:09:27 EST Thursday Morning Thoughts I've been at this thing called Sparkpeople for 2 years now. I've had my ups and downs but it is never easy staying motivated and sticking to a plan. Lately I've been taking the dogs on 2 mile walks several times a week, participating in a 28 day Sparkpeople Bootcamp and (very) slowly doing C25K. I finally found some motivation! Last night I noticed some definition in my arms, something I've been dying for! Boy I've been so excited ever since. Thinking about doing extra push ups, putting... Thu, 15 Jul 2010 08:18:39 EST Up early...feeling some motivation! *Update* Yesterday I did something impulsive. I got a new dog. More on that later!

I'm up early (new dog had to poop lol). All week it's been hot and miserable in Pittsburgh. I don't have a treadmill or anything so I couldn't walk or C25K outside (good excuse right?). Um, it's fine out this morning. I need to get my ass in gear! 67

Alright here's the story!
I've been wanting another dog for awhile. We just bought a big ole house so we have tons of space. ... Sat, 10 Jul 2010 08:08:20 EST Haven't blogged in awhile... Not too much to report on. I've been slowly doing the C25K workout plan about every other week or so. I said before I'm not much of a runner and doing the C25K plan proves it over and over! I'm still working on it though. I don't have a goal date to finish, just as long as I finish. Week 2 was actually easier for me so I've been focusing on that until I feel comfortable enough to move on.

I'm also doing a Sparkpeople 4 week Boot Camp. Due to some health issues this weekend ... Tue, 6 Jul 2010 10:39:29 EST C25K W1D2 Day 2 - DONE!

Honestly it felt easier. Though I SO wish I knew of somewhere super close that had a flat running surface. Mike Tux and I are running along a semi main road that has several hills. I'm sure I'll be thankful for those inclines eventually! I do know of at least 3 trails in the area that we can go to but I would rather just stay local. Maybe we'll check a trail out over the weekend. Speaking of weekend - can you believe it is almost Memorial Day?!?! Memorial Day... Tue, 25 May 2010 20:46:29 EST C25K take 2! So I definitely came down with the plague last week and only did 1 day of worries! I am feeling better and back at it. Last weekend I had the beginnings of a sore throat which quickly developed into a full blown cold/week long migraine. I didn't not exercise though, just no C25K. Not bad for my lazy butt.
After avoiding the internet for 24hrs and watching the LOST finale tonight (tears!) I put my sneakers on and off I went. Mike and I decided to just start over so now we... Mon, 24 May 2010 21:50:05 EST
