Or are you in a fantasy world? This question was posed recently by my favorite money guru - Suze Orman! She always says that we need to face our debt to erase it.

Well, that being said, I had a recent encounter with my youngest daughter where she was overwhelmed by student loan debt and the process of paying it back at this point in her life. She has had some set backs lately (car accident, quitting college one month shy of a degree, brain in... Tue, 19 Nov 2013 04:46:58 EST Treadclimber? I have been watching the advertisements for the Bowflex treadclimber and I have wanted one for years! It is so expensive though and I would love to try it out first. Any sparkers out there have one? If so, how do you like it? Is it as easy on your joints as they say? Is the motion easy to get used to even if you are very tall with long limbs?
I am impressed with the calorie burn! over 500 calories in just 30 minutes? Incredible! I want that! I dare you. Tue, 4 Jun 2013 20:46:41 EST random blog.... I want to blog but I really don't know what to blog about today. My baby girl turned 21 years yesterday. That is making me feel pretty darn old, however, I have coworkers who are older than me with younger kids! Whew, I am so glad mine are adults!
I have had some NSV's lately. I am on week 3 of p90x program and the exercises are getting easier. I am able to do more of them with heavier weights. Plus, today after the dvd (chest and back plus ab ripper) I did the elliptical for 20 mins be... Tue, 4 Jun 2013 06:15:21 EST Yonana MAKER - by popular demand! Yonana maker - by popular demand.
So, I got this frozen dessert maker at Kitchen Collection for $45. Not bad. The first thing to making delicious and guilt free desserts is to have ripe bananas - (the instructions say "cheeta spotted" bananas are best for flavor), then you need to peel them and wrap them in plastic wrap and freeze them. You can combine different frozen fruit to get very unique flavors but you must always start with a whole banana and end with one (it helps to push all th... Got my workout in before work yesterday. Day 4 was YOGA. The dvd was 90 mins of which I did 45 mins. When they got to the amazing twisting while balancing on one leg pose, I had to call it quits. Not saying I will never attempt it but after 45 mins my legs were just too shaky to try without the fear of falling on my face. I am not nearly as flexible as I had thought, but I guess I shouldn't be too shocked as I haven't done yoga in a long time. The instructor (Tony) even had trouble ... Mon, 20 May 2013 09:17:35 EST P90X day 3 - Arms and Chest P90X Day 3
Arms and Chest
For those of you who have commented on my previous blogs with concern for my well being, thankyou. I am deeply touched by all the thoughtful and helpful comments. That being said, I thought I must explain what P90x program is and how it works. Yes, it is an extreme exercise program and it does carry a warning not to do this program if you are prone to injury or if you have neck, knee or back problems (and of course the disclaimer that they are not responsib... Sun, 19 May 2013 09:05:24 EST P90x day 2. P90x day 2.
Plyometric -
a system of exercise in which the muscles are repeatedly stretched and suddenly contracted.
So, what does this mean? It means you JUMP - a lot!!!!
My take on the video -
It started out with the instructor warning that this is the "x" in the P90X program. This is what trains athletes to be faster, jump higher, get to the next level. I believe it. He also warns to wear a cardiac monitor (which I do not possess).
The warm up was manageable... Sat, 18 May 2013 02:59:03 EST P90x - day one (I need my head examined).... I am nuts. Yep. That is the only logical explaination. I started P90x yesterday. Two of my coworkers have done it and they look amazing. So here is my thought process: I have been working out steadily for almost 5 months on my own, did my first 5K and now I am just stuck. I am not losing weight, I am not firming up, I am just at a stalemate. You can't just do the same thing over and over and expect different results - therefore, I have to change things up. Enter P90x!
I have had the dis... Fri, 17 May 2013 07:46:49 EST Saw a funny Mother's Day card at Walmart... Sun, 12 May 2013 07:16:59 EST Spark Rally! As most of you know, this weekend was our Missourians! Team Spark Rally held at GOPINTOS (Melinda's) home. The weekend started out rainy but cleared up enough for our 5K run/walk on Saturday. I met some really nice sparkers, got some exercise, ate good food, had good fun, and a horseback ride!
Red_devil_April is a HOOT! She has a story for everthing and such interesting life experience. I am in awe of her bubbling positivity no matter what life throws at her. If you read her blog then y... Sun, 5 May 2013 19:29:48 EST RACE DAY?!? Question - when you advertise a 5K on an official Missouri Races website, don't you have some sort of obligation to update it if the race is cancelled or delayed for some reason? Well, today was supposed to be my first 5K and I was all ready and nervous and excited - I showed up all dressed for the cold weather and the park was EMPTY. Waited around, more runners showed up wondering the same questions I was wondering - are we in the right place? Has the race been cancelled? Is there someone to... Sat, 20 Apr 2013 18:16:26 EST How am I doing? One of my April goals was to blog once a week. My last blog entry was 30 March so I guess I am a little late. I won't say I FAILED that goal, I will just look at it as a little BLIP. Not to make excuses but I do read and comment on a lot of Missourians! Team blogs and well, I do work full time and I am training for my first 5K coming up on....OMG! It is in 5 days! Am I ready? I have no idea. I have NEVER run that far but I have been running about a half a mile before walking so I can at least... Mon, 15 Apr 2013 07:55:18 EST Time flies and goal setting.... This week has flown by! I have been off all week for my daughter's Spring Break. This was the first time I have seen her in two years - since her sister's wedding! Her college is 8 hrs away and she just doesn't have enough time off or money to come see me (plus, there are other factors). So, we had a very productive week. We spent most of our time over at my older daughter's house (30 mins away) to paint her new photography studio space. It was a big job but we got it accomplished. To pay us... Sat, 30 Mar 2013 06:21:23 EST The good, the bad, the ugly. I would like to think that I am normal in that I struggle daily with negative self-talk. I think a lot more people deal with this than will admit...but that is just my opinion. I have a case in point so read on.

I confess that I am not the most positive person in the world but I have been working on it. I mean, actively working on saying positive things and hoping that it will spur a positive outcome (kinda like positive thinking, but out loud). Sometimes I say the opposite of w... Wed, 13 Mar 2013 06:57:23 EST The big move...and stuff. My eating has been way off the past 4 days and I am feeling it.
I have been helping my daughter and son-in-law move and let me tell you, it was not an easy time. Besides the constant snow and cold, they have these stone steps that lead down to their front door and we had to navigate them to bring all their stuff from the garage into the house. The good news is that I got my cardio in going up and down those slippery stone steps - and I didn't fall! The bad news is that I was so sore aft... Mon, 4 Mar 2013 05:40:13 EST S.O.S. to any computer techie peeps! Here is the problem:

I got a Kindle Fire 2 for Christmas but unfortunately it will not play any SparkPeople video. My honey has a Kindle Fire 1st edition and it plays them just fine. We checked and made sure all the settings were the same for mine and they are, it just won't play. I have done everything I know to do including scanning the message board on Amazon and on Sparkpeople for this specific problem and did everything it says to do - any clue as to why this won't work?
... Sat, 23 Feb 2013 08:43:36 EST Tradition! Tradition! ones, old ones. I love to watch movies. I have so many favorites I could hardly choose just one - or ten. The other night I was enjoying watching some movies with my honey and found a reference to President's Day in Coraline - yep, they were having a sale on school uniforms in this movie and we just happened to be watching it on President's day - so now it is our President's Day Holiday movie. I don't know if anyone else has a tradition like we do - we have certain movies that we watch corresponding to certa... Wed, 20 Feb 2013 09:13:45 EST A Night with the "IN" crowd. I have been remiss in my blogging lately so I am going to try to catch up. Last night was my night out with the "in" crowd (as I call them) but really it is just a group of ladies that meet for a movie and meal(and maybe a drink) and chat. So, we saw "Identity Theft" and it was pretty good - about what you would expect with only a few surprises. Then we went to Applebee's and chatted/ate/drank. I left early because we were sitting near the bar and unfortunately they allow smoking at the bar -... Sat, 16 Feb 2013 04:15:19 EST What is my true motivation? Spend a few minutes writing about the reasons behind
your fitness and weight-loss goals. What is your true motivation? What do you
hope to achieve or experience after reaching your goal?

This is what SparkCoach is asking me today. These may seem like easy questions but as I sit an ponder them, they become more complicated.

I want to lose weight to feel and look better but what is my true motivation? I have had that goal for years and my weight never budged - ... Sun, 10 Feb 2013 06:12:31 EST If my future self could talk to me..... If my future self could talk to me.....

What she tell me right now? Would she be proud of me for working out and pushing that extra mile? I think she would tell me to keep on doing what I am doing. Keep working, keep pushing, keep going the distance and be encouraged that you are getting somewhere even if you don't see the results right away. Things are happening inside you that you can't see but trust me, it is working! Really!

I think about that future self and can alm... Mon, 4 Feb 2013 05:09:44 EST What is SparkPeople? What is SparkPeople?
I talk about SparkPeople at work and I get asked this question and well, I am not sure how to answer it. To an outsider, SparkPeople is a website that can be joined for free to help you meet your goals and get support from others.
To me? I couldn't encompass what SparkPeople is to me with a simple paragraph or a 30 second definition.
It is so much more - and I haven't even explored all the "more" yet.

Community - It is a place to join others wi... Wed, 30 Jan 2013 05:13:16 EST How not to make a vlog. Unsure if my video will load but hey, I tried! If you can't get it to play, I apologize. I am not tech savvy and I can't help you. Mon, 28 Jan 2013 07:23:49 EST Confident bikini wearing Think about 3 things that are on your bucket list. What goal would you go for if anything was possible? What can you do to feel like that in your life today?
This is my task today from the spark coach program.

I really haven't started a bucket list. I guess I should give this some thought though since I'm not getting any younger (true for us all). The lines of what I want to do and what other people want me to do gets kind of blurry. For instance, I have no desire to travel o... Wed, 23 Jan 2013 09:11:18 EST Killing the cookie monster with a treadmill Last night I was hit by a cookie craving. I have been doing so great with my eating - I am even having trouble meeting the calorie range set for my BMR! If I eat all the fruits and veggies I am supposed to in a day, I don't have room for any of the sugary stuff. Honestly, I haven't been craving it or even tempted by any cookies or candy....until NOW.

I blame the hormones - yep, Aunt Flo is here for her monthly visit (TMI?) and with her comes the chocolate craving. Now, ninety-nine ... Mon, 21 Jan 2013 08:02:05 EST Nutrition made easy - with the NutriBullet! I saw an infomercial about this cool device called a "NutriBullet". It is like a blender but it is supposed to break things down better to a "macro-nutrient" level. That means your body can absorb the nutrients better.
Just a little background history - I have an iron absorption problem due to IBS and I have a very low iron level. Add to that my hypothyroid issues and the fact that I work night shift, and you have a reci... Sat, 19 Jan 2013 02:22:46 EST Just go with it. This was not the post I was going to write. I was going to tell you all about my NutriBullet and how it has changed my life for the better, but just trying to get to the spot on this site where I can add a blog has made me very frustrated and I am going to write about navigating SparkPeople.
As much as I absolutely love this community and all the little things I am finding out about it every single time I use it , I must say the navigation leaves a bit to be desired. Case in point: if I want to blog, I would naturally hover over ... Wed, 16 Jan 2013 23:35:58 EST Hey! First goal met - where was I? Just like the title implies - I met my first goal, which was to lose 5 lbs. and I acutally lost 6lbs. How did that happen so quickly? I guess it isn't all that fast (6 weeks) but I was so focused on eating right/exercising/working and blogging - plus reading other sparkers blogs - that I didn't realize the scale had budged!
I weigh myself everyday so it seems I would notice - how did I not notice? I knew the numbers changed but it didn't seem to sink into my brain what it meant! How wie... Sun, 13 Jan 2013 07:35:39 EST sparking positivity in wierd ways. A few weeks ago I had an unpleasant encounter with a coworker (ok, she is my constant nemisis). It was before I had actually embraced or even aknowleged my current journey with my fellow sparksters. So, I did my normal rant in my car on the drive home - it normally diffuses my anger and I can comeback with such witty comments that always come to me after the fact. 28
This time it would not diffuse. Not even the car rant helped. So, I did some deep breathing and came up with... Fri, 11 Jan 2013 08:45:29 EST Comments please! I like to snoop around in other sparksters spark pages and blogs and sometimes I leave a comment, sometimes I don't.....But then I think about how I really LIVE for those comments on my blogs - it is just nice to know that someone read what I wrote. So, now I have challenged myself and YOU to leave something in the comment section when you read a blog post. It doesn't have to be much - a little emoticon or something to say "hey, I was here".

It is much appreciated.

So,... Thu, 10 Jan 2013 01:44:02 EST Grocery shopping disaster Okay, I am exaggerating a teensy bit but read on to judge for yourself.

This morning was my normal grocery shopping day - and since I work night shift, I just keep my schedule the same on my nights off, so I do my shopping at 2am. I am setting the stage here so bear with me. It is cold here in good ole Missouri so I had to warm up my car for a good 10 minutes - meanwhile I got my shopping list and coupons in order. I drive to Wal-Mart (which is the only store open at this time) a... Mon, 7 Jan 2013 05:27:16 EST Anger issues I am full of anger today. 28 I was fine all night at work but then a certain co-worker came in and just pushed my buttons. I know I should just use that anger to fuel my workout - right? Grrr, I can't work out until Saturday but I may have to do something physical before then. My 12 hour night shift plus the one hour drive is really cutting into my workout schedule.

Anyone else out there work a 12 hour night shift? Mine is 6pm to 6am. That doesn't leave much time for a ... Fri, 4 Jan 2013 08:22:09 EST Trainging day 1 for the 5K As you can imagine, the workout was challanging. I was reading the message boards on doing a 5K trainging and there were a lot of great tips - like an APP for the iPOD called "personal running trainer" that has a coach voice over your own music to tell you when to run, when to walk. I downloaded it and started using it today. It works just like it was supposed to. They have you warm up for 5 minutes, then intervals of 2 minutes walking, one minute running. repeat. So far I am only running (j... Wed, 2 Jan 2013 06:09:55 EST
