I really like to support this race because I have several friends affected by this disease. And guess who I was right behind for a little while?? Ali Vincent! Here she is with her mom and someone else:

Here I am with a group of friends that all did the race. Wed, 25 Sep 2013 18:04:13 EST Race #15 and 16 On Labor Day weekend, I participated in a Disney Challenge called the Dumbo Double Dare, which consisted of a 10k on Saturday morning and a half marathon on Sunday morning. For doing both events, you would earn a bonus inaugural medal.
Labor Day weekend in my area was unusually hot and humid. After the 10k on Saturday, I made sure to rest and hydrate so I would be prepared for Sunday. I also changed my goal for Sunday. Since this was to be my second half marathon, I originally wanted to... Wed, 25 Sep 2013 17:42:35 EST Race #14 - OC Fair Fun Run This was my second year running this race. My time this year was 15 minutes less than last year, but last year I did it with a friend that is not a runner. My next big race event is coming up really soon, so I am really trying to stay on track with my training. Here I am in my new running skirt:

Here is my medal and race bib:
Thu, 8 Aug 2013 16:51:14 EST Race #13 - SO FUN!! Thu, 18 Jul 2013 17:26:36 EST Race #11 and 12 (and an explanation of virtual races) Both of these were virtual races. In case I haven't explained it before, a virtual race is one you run anywhere you want. They are usually fundraisers. I like to do them because they keep me focused on my training while helping someone else with theirs. Some people register for marathons or half marathons as part of a fundraising team. They are required to raise a certain amount and the funds go to whatever charity the team is supporting. When I register for a virtual race, I commit to runnin... Wed, 26 Jun 2013 17:37:35 EST Hawaii We had a great time in Hawaii. Tue, 18 Jun 2013 18:27:23 EST Race #10
This was a really hard run. I used my inhaler before I started but still had some trouble breathing. It was very humid and the mist was so heavy it felt like it was sprinkling sometimes. The distance was twice as far as the races that I have been doing and was mostly trails rather than paved. Although I have been wanting to do a trail run, I would not have chosen a 10k for my first. Despite all of that, I am glad I did ... Also, I did not know I was going to get a medal for this race. So a double bonus! Thu, 9 May 2013 19:05:51 EST Race #6 - 5k and Beach Clean Up Several people that I know on Facebook did the Nike Women's Marathon this weekend. Part of the appeal of that race is that, when you cross the finish line, you get a Tiffany necklace given to you by a fireman in a tuxedo. While that sounds very nice, I sure enjoyed getting my medal from this little guy:

Mon, 29 Apr 2013 10:57:32 EST Race #5 in my 13 in 13 Quest This past Sunday, I did my 5th race of the year. It really got me thinking. I was trying to formulate some sort of challenge for myself, because my motivation has been waxing and waning since my office moved too far from my gym for me to continue to go there. I have been (sort of) keeping up with my running program, usually doing 2 days a week (the program calls for 3 days a week). I have several race eve... Wed, 27 Feb 2013 17:59:55 EST Brea 8k, aka Race #4 in 2013 I didn't realize it until today, but the race I did this morning is the first one that I have repeated. It was nice to be able to see how my time has improved on the exact same course that I did a year ago. I used to do walks or 5Ks for causes that I believed in, but I would always walk them. Then last June I decided to do a half marathon and started training for it. It wasn't until then that I considered myself a "runner", and that's still debatable, lol. But today I finished this race 12 mi... Sun, 24 Feb 2013 23:20:02 EST My Awful Week So the owner and his brother (1st and 2nd in command) are on vacation this past week and here is what has happened since they left: plumbing issues that took 2 days to resolve, an injured employee with all the drama that comes with filing a worker's comp claim, and the grand finale: Friday afternoon, the lights started flickering, then went out. The backup battery for our computers and phone system failed and, when the electrician came to check things out, the main electric panel exploded and...
