BAWISSA's SparkPeople Blog BAWISSA's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community HOLY CROW! 35 MINUTES?!?!?! Ok, so thirty-five minutes may not be the most time I've spent on the treadmill, but it shocked me today. I know I've said this before, but I LOVE MY NOOK! Right now, I'm reading Aunt Dimity and the Duke by Nancy Atherton. It is at the climax so I'm reading intently, so intently that I didn't notice the time. I started slowing the treadmill because my back was hurting and I was running out of water. I still didn't look at the time until I finished my cool down and stopped the treadmill. My go... Sun, 15 May 2011 12:55:15 EST 2011 Goals Update 1) Read 40+ books this year
-Again, this is the goal I've made the most progress on. So far, I've read fourteen books this year.
2) Learn to drive/Get driver's license
-I went to the Driver's License Division and picked up a copy of the most recent Driver's Handbook, but I haven't renewed my learner's permit. It expired on the seventh of this month. I still haven't been behind the wheel since last summer. I think my biggest fear at this point is driving my mom's new van. It is... Sun, 24 Apr 2011 16:27:51 EST What?!?! It doesn't fit??? Two years ago, I made this super cute, totally awesome green belt to wear out to Wendover on St. Patrick's Day. I didn't think I had lost any weight since then because the scale has been so up and down. I thought I'd be about the same size as I was then, but I'm not. The belt was made to fit just below my waist, and it isn't adjustable in size. When I put it on this morning, it fell way too low on my hips! At first, I was irritated. (That belt took a lot of work to make!) Then the shock hit. ... Thu, 17 Mar 2011 10:42:11 EST My 2011 Goals plus an update Wow! I just went back over my blog and discovered that I never mentioned my goals for 2011 on here! Sorry about that. I had fully intended on doing so. My original plan was to write a blog as an update on those goals, but I guess I need to tell you what they are first!

1) Read 40+ books this year
-I love to read, and this gives me an incentive to make more time for it.
2) Learn to drive/Get driver's license
-This is an important step to getting more freedom in my li... Thu, 3 Mar 2011 11:03:45 EST Why I want to walk the treadmill for hours... I used to think the treadmill was the most boring piece of exercise equipment in the world! Then I discovered that I could balance my iPod on the little shelf thing and watch videos while I walked. That made it so I could walk for a longer time without even noticing the time, but that could only hold my interest for less than an hour. With my latest discovery, I don't ever want to get off the treadmill! If my body would hold up, I'd walk for hours and hours. What is my latest discovery??? <BR... Fri, 14 Jan 2011 13:17:23 EST In praise of forgetfulness... "Why is it that I can remember all the words to songs that were hits in the 80's and 90's, but can't remember what I just went into the kitchen for???"

I forget things all the time. My most common phrases include: "What was I doing?" and "What was I supposed to be doing?" Some days this really bothers me, some days it just bothers the people around me, and some days I just accept it as it is, but today is different. I finally found a reason to actually LIKE my forgetfulness!
... Sun, 9 Jan 2011 12:35:06 EST A walk with a friend... My friend (MIYASEDAI) invited me to go for a walk with her today. She sent me a SparkGoodie with a note that said...

"Random Friendly Challenge/Invite: Let's take a virutal walk together today and write about it in our blogs! I'll take a walk around the block twice and then blog about it later tonight. If you're not sick or otherwise unable, do the same and let me know how your walk went! It'll be like I and my friend got to go for a walk with each other! What did you see on the wa... Fri, 7 Jan 2011 00:32:29 EST C-mas Challenge Update: I did it! This year, I made the decision to not hate Christmas. I thought that would prove to be a huge challenge, and there were times when it was not easy. However, most of the time it was pretty easy to simply enjoy the Christmas season. I think the hardest part was not joining in when everyone else was complaining about Christmas. Christmas Day was a little hard to get through, too, but it wasn't impossible. On Christmas Eve, I invited Jeremy's friend over so he could decorate cookies with Jeremy. ... Mon, 27 Dec 2010 19:24:26 EST Unbelievable! I woke up late this morning so things were a little chaotic, but I still remembered to weigh in before breakfast. Here is how it went...

Thought: After everything I've done/not done this month, I really don't want to step on this scale.
Action: Stepped on scale.
Scale: 193.5

Thought: That can't be right. Maybe the scale is too close to the wall.
Action: Pulled scale out from the wall. Stepped on scale.
Scale: 193.5

Thought: There is no poss... Wed, 1 Dec 2010 21:06:43 EST Easy Decision, Hard Challenge If you know me, you know that I HATE Christmas! There are a ton of reasons why, but I'm not going to list them because I've decided that I'm not going to hate Christmas this year. Deciding not to hate Christmas was pretty easy. Mom, Kurtis, and I went to Walmart today. We listened to Christmas music on the way there, and Kurtis and I walked through the Christmas section to check Christmas tree prices. (I want to get a small one for my bedroom.) I realized that there are things I really like a... Sat, 6 Nov 2010 02:20:39 EST The Truth Hurts I've been thinking a lot lately, probably too much. I've discovered that the truth hurts even more when it comes from yourself. I'm not sure I want to divulge those truths here. They make me depressed, but more than that. They make me myself. Angry because most of these truths are changeable, and I haven't done one damn thing to change them! Why? I think it is mostly because I'm scared, so afraid of the unknown that I'm paralyzed. So, I do the same things day after day, not necessa... Sun, 17 Oct 2010 15:43:40 EST I suck at this!!! Okay. So, I know being down on myself isn't going to help anything, but that is just how I feel today! I haven't been on Spark in almost three months, and I haven't done much towards my goals in that three months either. Lets take a look at some of my goals to show you want I mean....

My Top Three Life Goals...
1) I will get a driver's license before November 2011.
-I know that deadline is far away, but I need the extra time to work through the anxiety I have when driving... Fri, 8 Oct 2010 15:33:39 EST Goals for July 19th thru 25th These are my goals for this week, divided into things to do this week, and things to do every day this week.

Weekly
-Practive Driving x1
-Exercise 15+ minutes x4
-Drink 8+ cups x2

Daily (this week)
-Drink 6+ cups water
-Read and comment on 1 SparkBlog (I love getting comments on mine so I thought it would be a good idea to comment on others)
-Exercise 10+ minutes

I'll update this at the end of the week (next Sunday night or Monda... Mon, 19 Jul 2010 12:22:48 EST Desperately Need To Vent! Warning: This blog entry consists of me complaining. It is not motivational or positive in any way. I wouldn't blame you at all if you decide not to read it. This particular bout of complaining isn't even related to weight loss or goals.

Change is not always for the better! When I had an old friend contact me after 9+ years, I was tickled pink! This was the best friend I ever had wanting to be friends again. It made my day, my week in fact, but now I'm not so sure. So much has chan... Sun, 18 Jul 2010 13:58:06 EST Goals for July 12th thru 18th I know I'm a little late getting this on here, but it's here now, and that is what matters. These are my goals for this week, divided into things to do this week, and things to do every day this week. I hope that makes sense...

Weekly
-Practice Driving x1
-Exercise 15+ minutes x4
-Update SparkPage x1

Daily (this week)
-Drink 6+ cups water
-Read 1+ SparkPeople article

They are simple, but it is a good start. Mon, 12 Jul 2010 18:12:00 EST An Update (Q & A Style) 7-9-2010 I'm currently lacking my typical writting skills due to my brain being on vacation so I'm doing this Question and Anwswer Style to perserve what little brain has stayed home. LOL! (It also is not in any particular order.)

Q) When was the last time you were on SparkPeople? How do you feel about that?
A) The last time I was on SparkPeople was over three months ago. I really should spend time on here more. Perhaps if I had, my big jeans would fit me. My "big jeans" have been to... Fri, 9 Jul 2010 18:58:37 EST Reading The Spark and My Three Main Goals... I've read the first two chapters of The Spark by Chris Downie. In Chapter Two (page 19 for those of you that have the book) it mentions that we all have a "deep wish, and inner inkling of what we want to accomplish and the values we want to live by." It goes on to say that this "deep wish" is hard to hold onto amidst the distractions of life. After reading the first chapter and most of the second, I decided it was time to sit down and figure out what I really wanted from my life.

... Sat, 27 Mar 2010 19:34:39 EST I think I've got it... I sat down this morning and decided what my goals were going to be. I also worked out a plan for tracking my progress, and I'm already working towards my first reward.

MAIN GOAL: Weigh less than 175 pounds by December 31st, 2010.

Action Goals:
1) Take a 10+ minute walk three or more days every week!*
2) Go for a bike ride two or more days every week!*
3) Drink 8+ cups of water every day!
4) Follow an eating schedule every day!
5) Track everythi... Mon, 22 Mar 2010 19:55:18 EST Reset My Goals and Such...AGAIN!!! To be perfectly honest, I'm a little pissed off. When I first started SparkPeople, I did all the right things and stuck with it for quite awhile. Then something happened and I didn't get on Spark for a long time. Now, each time I come back, I reset my goals because "I'm going to track more consistantly," but each time I'm here for a week at most then I'm gone again. I can't seem to stick around, and even the time I spend here isn't like it was when I first started. Example: I haven't used the... Sun, 21 Mar 2010 23:55:19 EST Weigh in results 199.5 I weighed this morning for the first time in over two months. It was disappointing, but to be honest, I'm not surprised that I only lost 2.5 pounds. I know I should be happy that I at least lost something, but I keep thinking I could have lost more. I haven't been keeping up with my goal program for the last three or four weeks. Part of me is also thinking that it wasn't a very practical place to start. I had decided to try to develop the habit of exercise before I started focusing on my diet... Sun, 28 Feb 2010 12:18:00 EST Stepping outside my Comfort Zone... I'm a hermit. Maybe not in all senses for the word, but I think that is what I am. If I can avoid it, I don't go outside my home, and I never go anywhere without someone from my family. I really want to change that, but people scare me. I'm so nervous to be out in public, especially when my family isn't with me. I like going out and doing things. I just wish other people weren't there.

I've had therapists tell me for years that I need more social interaction, but I always thought ... Sat, 9 Jan 2010 12:10:33 EST Into the envelope...Current weight When I weighed myself in late December to find that I weighed 202 lbs., I decided to focus on getting healthy and not look at the scale until February 28th. That was before I decided to come back to Spark and before I decided to do the boot camp. So that I'd have an accurate starting weight for my BEFORE boot camp measurements, I decided to weigh. However, I didn't look at the number. I had my mom look at it for me. She wrote it down on a piece of paper and put it in an envelope for me. That ... Sun, 3 Jan 2010 12:26:52 EST Spark Boot Camp Before Picture and more

This is my BEFORE picture. I'll be starting SparkPeople's new boot camp tomorrow so I'm stating my BEFORE picture and measurements here.

Weight-202 lbs.
Waist-43 inches
Hips-50 inches
Neck-14.25 inches
Upper Arm(Left)-13.75 inches

CONFESSION-I'd also like to mention here that I probably won't be doing the boot camp exactly as suggested. I have some physical limitations that p... Sat, 2 Jan 2010 23:55:03 EST I'M BACK! ...again. I've probably written over ten, "I'm back" or "Starting over" posts since I started Spark two years ago. Of course, many of them have been deleted as I have changed focus of my blog a few times. I won't guarantee that I'm back for good or even that I'm fully back to begin with, but I'm here. I've been really busy with my real life and other internet obligations. I'm still busy with both so I won't be here often. For the most part, I'm using Spark as a tool to track my exercise minutes and str... Fri, 1 Jan 2010 15:11:23 EST Hike canceled. Bike instead. Sorry I haven't been around in awhile, but I'm back and raring to go!

As you may know, I was preparing to hike the Perimeter Trail this July. Well, my family had decided not to go camping this year because we didn't know exactly when Kurtis' kidney surgery would be. (It was yesterday.) So, we weren't going camping this year anyway, but I was hoping that my dad might drive me up there just to take the hike. Unfortunately, the place where we usually go camping has been closed becaus... Wed, 10 Jun 2009 12:06:12 EST Jump Rope Fun I was on the message board today when someone asked if anyone had ideas of good jump rope routines. That is when I thought of the old jump rope rhymes I used to do in school. My favorite is...

Cinderella dressed in yella
Went upstairs to kissa fella.
Made a mistake.
Kissed a snake.
How many doctors did it take?
(count jumps until you make a mistake or can't jump anymore)

There is a lot more rhymes. Type "jump rope rhymes" into a search engine, ... Sun, 5 Apr 2009 21:48:12 EST My friday adventure Some people might say that walking around the neighborhood isn't really an adventure, but I disagree. Since the weather was so good yesterday, I decided to go for a long walk. I love to take long walks, especially now that my small town has grown. Now, I can walk to do some of my simple errands. Yesterday, I was just going to go up to the credit union and the library, but I ended up walking a lot more because I was having such a great time. I went all the way to the little strip mall thing we... Sat, 21 Feb 2009 16:56:59 EST Restarting...AGAIN! I haven't been doing too well with my goals for the last couple weeks so I decided to start over on everything. I'm not restarting my Spark program this time because I don't do much on Spark. I just visit the message boards and write in my blog. I haven't logged food or fitness minutes in a long time. I keep a journal on these things, but I don't have time to enter it all into the computer. I'm restarting my goals chart and stuff, but I have this nagging feeling in the back of my mind that I ... Sun, 15 Feb 2009 14:48:50 EST More info on my upcoming hike The trail I plan on taking is called the Perimeter Trail. It follows along the perimeter of the Jordanelle Reservoir, half way around. The trail connects the Rock Cliff campsites with the Hailstone campsites. Depending on which source you want to go by, the trail is 12.5 to 14 miles long. One of the sites that I saw said that the trail is flatter by Hailstone, but gets more hilly as you near Rock Cliff. Since I only have opportunity to access it by Rock Cliff, I will need to train to do hills... Mon, 19 Jan 2009 11:01:04 EST Cool quote from Les Brown "If you set goals and go after them with all the determination you can muster, your gifts will take you to places that will amaze you." ~Les Brown

I think this is an awesome quote. I cut it out of a magazine and put it in my motivation collage. It has special meaning for me because one of my goals is to hike more of the Perimeter Trail, and it has some amazing views so reaching my goals will truly take me places that will amaze me.

What do you think of this quote? Wh... Mon, 19 Jan 2009 10:52:51 EST Awesome upcoming occurrence-my hike! Last August, Mom, Dad, Jeremy, and I went camping. It was at the same place that Mom and Dad used to take me and Kurtis to. We loved the place, and I was shocked and a little disappointed to see how much it had changed! It seemed like everything was different, but it was fun because that gave me more places to explore. While Jeremy and I were walking one day (trying to find a place to fish since all the others had disappeared!) we found the beginning of a trail. It is called The Perimeter Tra... Mon, 12 Jan 2009 20:59:57 EST Walking Games Walking games are a great way to sneak extra activity to your day. It is also a fun way to increase the number of steps you take for those of you that wear pedometers. I started playing walking games when I was wearing my pedometer. Even though I haven't worn it in a long time, I still try to play at least one walking game every day.

Game #1-Window/Wall Tag
-Every time you go into a room, even if you are just reaching your hand in to turn off the light, go to the the window o... Sat, 10 Jan 2009 12:03:41 EST Something I realized about Winter mornings! You know those Winter mornings when it is so cold that all you want to do is stay snuggled under your blankets forever. It is really hard for me to get up to exercise or do anything else on days like that. That is until it dawned on me. Physical activity warms you up! This is something that my parents would tell me years ago when they'd wake me up for school: "If you get up and get moving, you'll warm up and be fine." Wise words. I've always had very smart parents, even when I was a teen and ... Wed, 7 Jan 2009 16:35:11 EST Great idea-Add hot sauce to bland soup! I'm not a spicy foods kind of girl, but this trick worked like a charm today. I tried Campbell's Healthy Request Vegetable Beef soup today. It tasted like beefy water! I was searching the spice cupboard for something, anything I could add to it to make it taste better. That is when I saw the packets of hot sauce. I grabbed a mild one and added a few drops to my soup. It didn't make it spicy, but it gave it flavor for zero calories. I even decided that I really enjoy this combo so I'll be buyi... Wed, 7 Jan 2009 16:24:44 EST A great idea about salads! I've done this several times before, but it just occurred to me this morning that it is a great idea that I should share with other people. When you make a salad, make it in a bowl that has a lid. Add a little bit of dressing, put the lid on tight, and shake it up. This way the dressing gets on every piece of salad without using a ton of dressing.

Another idea-Try Maple Grove Farms of Vermont's Fat Free Poppyseed dressing. It has only 40 calories in every TWO tablespoons. I typica... Tue, 6 Jan 2009 13:40:04 EST Welcome to my blog!

Hi and thanks for taking the time to read this! I've decided to clear out my old blog entries since I haven't used it in a long time. I'm going to start fresh with an entirely different format. This time, I'm going to be writing about three main things... 1) great ideas/tips 2) sudden realizations/epiphanies 3) awesome occurrences/events. I may write about other stuff, but these are my three main topics. I hope you al... Tue, 6 Jan 2009 13:32:57 EST
