BATCHICK's SparkPeople Blog BATCHICK's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community I have 91 days to lose 20 lbs! Hi, it's been a while since I blogged! My life got REALLY crazy on February 8th. I got booted from my roller derby team & I broke my ankle pretty good. I've been HORRIBLE about exercising ever since. I have done ~some~ (precious little) strength training at home with resistance bands and body weight exercises. I have finally been able to pull off a baseline of ~5000 steps per day. I have been doing intermittant fasting but it seems harder than ever (which is weird since i'm less active ... Thu, 3 Apr 2014 15:04:17 EST GO BRONCOS!!! - roller derby video Last night my roller derby team did a orange and blue scrimmage as a sort of pep-rally for the Broncos. Check out this video! I'm doing a Payton Manning impression in the first shot!

OMAHA!!

Fri, 31 Jan 2014 13:54:32 EST plateaus and feelings (roller derby rant) Every 4 months or so my roller derby league re-drafts the top 32-ish skaters out of over 100. And every 4 months i'm forced to hear other skater's opinions of me and work my hardest to make a travel team. This is one of the most difficult things I deal with in my life. -I know that I'm lucky that this is the case.

Today I was told by an evaluator that the committe felt I had plateaued. That it seemed like I was burnt out and maybe I'd rather take a break than be on a team. I h... Thu, 30 Jan 2014 01:41:44 EST So inspirational, I just had to share! Thu, 9 Jan 2014 11:35:36 EST My January goals First of all, my new years resolution is to be more giving. My theme for 2013 was to treat myself with more respect and now i'm going to shine my light outward and consider others more. Especially towards my husband, he is so loving and giving and I'll admit I take advantage a lot. So that's going to be my overarching goal for 2014.

On to my January Goals:
1. 7-minute workout, has anyone heard of this? Its a simple but effective way to work your whole body in 7 minutes. I... Fri, 3 Jan 2014 11:56:15 EST X-Mas Cats! Mon, 30 Dec 2013 17:26:49 EST I was wrong, Spark Activity Tracker doesn't suck! When I first got my Spark Activity Tracker I was skeptical. I didn't like it. I missed my fitbit. But its been a month or so now and I have to say its growing on me!

I figured out how to callibrate it, and I have managed to hit my goal of 10k steps MOST days. Once I got all the lights lit up I felt how motivational they can be.
545

So anyway, sure there are lots of things about the fitbit I loved... and miss. But for the price difference I think Th... Fri, 20 Dec 2013 15:16:51 EST New Tattoo - Friday the 13th Did you know a lot of tattoo shops offer $13 tattoos on Friday the 13th?

My friends and I all went out and got new tattoos on Friday.

Here's what I got:

It's a little pill with hashmarks below. Why? Why the heck not, it was $13! Mon, 16 Dec 2013 18:11:43 EST Friday the 13th - tattoos, school shootings, oatmeal I'm trying not to be depressed about the Broncos loss last night. We're still in the playoffs, one stupid loss doesn't matter. I do have to say the Cargers QB Rivers seemed like a huge jerk and I really wanted to beat him, but oh well.

So today is Friday the 13th. Did you know some tattoo shops give 13 dollar tattoos on the 13th? I'm going to get one with a few friends tonight. I'm still grumpy about the Spark Activity Tracker... but what are ya gonna do? I may just replace my fitbit after x-mas, I really like it much better. (and maybe by then i'll feel better about the SPAT and won't bother spending the $$$)
546
(I used the one with no lights since I can't seem to get my stupid lights to light up! Tue, 3 Dec 2013 17:05:50 EST still sick, Spark Tracker review Ok, so first of all I want to complain that i'm STILL sick. It has been over 10 days and I keep going back and forth from feeling just OK to feeling like complete CRAP. I have a doctor's appointment on Thursday so hopefully if i'm still feeling crummy they can help.

I went ahead and bought a spark tracker as a reward for myself since I've been doing really well losing weight on the fast diet. I had a fitbit but I lost it. I thought I would switch to the SAT since it is less exp... Mon, 2 Dec 2013 16:36:48 EST I lost my fitbit :( Ugh,
I've been sick for the past 5 days. I left the house ~once~ to watch the Broncos game with my Broncos boyfriend (I really think they'll lose if I don't watch the games with him) and now I can't find my fitbit ANYWHERE.
198

So now i'm debating getting a new fitbit OR getting the spark activity tracker.
I liked the sleep monitoring function of the fitbit, but I honestly wasn't using it much.
I like that it measured floors climbed because there a... Thu, 31 Oct 2013 18:55:43 EST burpees they are my MOST hated form of exercise.
they make my heart race and my lungs burn.

So you'd think i'd avoid them like the plague...

BUT you'd be wrong. I did 1000 of them this month. My friend started a facebook challenge and I joined in hoping it would make me hate them less or at least motivate me to do more of them.
Well, I still hate them but I can do ~50 a day, and most importantly I get to say I did 1000 in October!!!!

248 Tue, 29 Oct 2013 16:51:22 EST Zombie MVP!

Every year we [RMRG, my roller derby league] have a Zombies V. Vampires bout.
I ALWAYS skate for the zombies. Peole get confused by this since my name is BATass. But I think zombies are more fun, what with the shredded clothes and gory makeup. Anyway, my team lost (barely) but I won MVP blocker! Yay!

Here's my portrait from the game:

<img src=" Mon, 21 Oct 2013 15:19:13 EST I ran my first 5k!!! - and other updates 248 364 390 312

Yes, I did it. I ran a 5K. Well actually it wasn't the full 3.1 miles due to the race course being a little short. But I did it and I felt great. I'm not sure what I'm more nervous for. Probably the 5K.

I've been training (kind of) to run the whole time but I know I won't be able to (since i haven't been able to successfully run the whole 3.1 miles on the treadmill). However I feel confident I will have a... Wed, 9 Oct 2013 14:04:50 EST Fast Day #1 Today is my first fasting day.
As I predicted it wasn't so bad in the morning (I usually have to force myself to eat in the mornings) ...
I ~slowly~ drank a protein shake at lunch.
And now as I await my freedom from work I'm getting pretty hungry. BUT it is fleeting, and if I can distract myself its really not unbearable.

Tonight I dine on eggs!

More progress to come, i'm going to give this 5:2 a solid month trial and see if I feel like its something I ca... Tue, 1 Oct 2013 18:53:56 EST Month end: September wrap-up & plans for October My September Goals were:
1. workout or derby 25 times in September.
result: yes and no. I hit 10k steps consistently, I was definately active 25 times, but I don't think I mdae it to the gym / derby 25 times.
2. workout before work 2x/week.
result: not really, we did hit the gym in the morning on the weekends though.
3. continue to track all food 5 out of 7 days /week - try to make healthy swaps.
result: pretty much, except the healthy swaps...
4. cook ... It was such a close bout with the score going back and forth throughout the game. But in the end the Sugars were victorious! Woo hoo!

Also- I made a mug muffin this weekend per my goal of cooking spark recipies to get into the habit of cooking more healthy foods and less processed convenience eating. It was pretty delicious and super easy to make. I'm excited ... Mon, 9 Sep 2013 13:24:07 EST my amazing thighs Today I went to the gym @ 5am per my goal of working out before work 2x/week. It's leg day, which is my favorite. I was feeling saucy so I decided to see just how much weight I could press on the leg press machine. First set I went for 255 (I usually go 200lbs on this machine). On the second set I bumped it up to 275, no big deal. On the third set I did 15 reps in good form of 300lbs! Woah. Who knew I was such a hulk?

84

I'm interested to see how sore ... Fri, 6 Sep 2013 13:20:27 EST Checking In I achieved all of my goals for last week! 334
1. Tracking food - I went out to dinner 2x last week so I used those as my non-tracking days. I tried to track anyway but you just never know if you're being accurate. I've discovered that I am in fact eating too much! I'm eating about 300 more calories per day than I should, but I think if I work to replace some processed foods with more freggies I can manage that.
2. So after actually looking at the book I realized there... Wed, 4 Sep 2013 13:39:41 EST Progress report Progress so far:
I've logged in to SP every day and I put the SP app on my new phone so all my food has been logged for 8/27-8/28 (so far so good for today too) - I have to say just being aware of where i'm at throughout the day really inspires me to make better choices. I think consistenly tracking food will be my #1 way to get back on track with my goals.
I have not weighed and measured yet... I need to do that ASAP (I will probably wait until Saturday as I'm usually in a time c... Thu, 29 Aug 2013 16:40:18 EST Fell off the wagon, under the wheels... I've been gone since March. Stopped tracking food/exercise... pretty much everything.
I gained ~10 lbs and totally fell out of all my healthy habits.

I posted a declaration of my desire to reach my goals and follwed up with doing approximately nothing to get there...

198 D'OH!

It's ok though. Tue, 27 Aug 2013 16:23:16 EST motivation - a self peptalk. I have been slacking.

I was doing really really good. Since about October 2012 I have been exercising and tracking really consistently and really sticking with better habits despite not seeing a lot of weight loss on the scale. Then in January I gave up alcohol and I also got the crud. The combination of not drinking and getting a lot more sleep than usual finally moved the scale. Then February rolled around and I have slowly fell out of the habits I had created. I stopped trac... Fri, 8 Mar 2013 22:27:24 EST Losing focus! Need to get some goals going... OK, so I admittedly have been very bad about coming to SP and logging all my foods, blogging, commenting on posts, etc. Hopwever I do think my activity levels have stayed up and I'm eating pretty clean for the most part.

I broke my streak of 123 days of logging in and spinning the wheel. 198 D'OH!
Mostly I blame the fact that my job has been really cracking down on my internet use at work. That's when I do most of my spark points related activities...
<B... Tue, 19 Feb 2013 13:37:20 EST YAY!!! I made it! I am a Contender again! ~phew~ So happy to have made the team. I will keep working hard to keep my spot. I'm only getting better.

It has been so hard relinquishing control of the team but I'm really glad I get to stick around and let others do all the captaining.

YAY!!!

244 Fri, 1 Feb 2013 13:49:06 EST Back on my skates and I feel SO good! I ~finally~ felt good enough to go to practice. Thank goodness I did, because I feel great now. It was a little nerve-wracking to see the eval committee meeting in the corner when I got there. But what can I do besides try my hardest and hope to get on the team I want to get on? I think I'm awesome, they'll be fools not to put me on the team 334 It was great not only to skate but to joke around and see my friendships. I have to run newbie practice tomorrow but 3 people alread... Wed, 30 Jan 2013 23:18:16 EST Still Sick!!! Argh! This is a frustrated ranting post. I have been really sick for the past 5 days. It has prevented me from working out hardly at all. My lymoh nodes are so swollen you can actually see them in my neck, it hurts to turn my head. Luckily I've been sleeping so much I haven't really been eating much. (I've been averaging 12 hours an night!) 102

I'm not really worried about my weight loss so much as Travel Team evals. I really really hope the eval committee wil... Mon, 28 Jan 2013 20:13:27 EST 100 days! - Spark streak and a GREAT weekend! Hello everyone. Today is my 100th day of logging into this website in a row! 252

I had a super-amazing-fantastic weekend. I started out right by going to our off skates training session run by a teammate who makes a living as a personal trainer. She KICKED my butt!! But I was glad I went (even though my Mom ditched me and went to happy hour).

On Saturday I weighed in and I'm THRILLED to report that the scale is moving in the right direction again! <e... Mon, 21 Jan 2013 10:32:50 EST 10 minutes in hell Today i'm participating in a roller derby tournament in which each team only has 5 skaters (+1 alternate) and each game is 5 jams in a row (aka 10 minutes). Ten minutes is no joke even when you are just blocking. I'm not so worried about the skating part of this as I am our uniforms. We all agreed to wear unitards. I'm talking skin tight Lycra number with NO place to hide any insecurities. I'm terrified. I told myself I've been working out and eating right and I look better than I have ... Sat, 12 Jan 2013 12:34:32 EST positivity, its a choice Wednesday night I went to another very crowded derby practice and as i skated i could feel my bad attitude lift. Then, during a hitting drill another skater I didn't know told me that I elbowed every single person I hit in the drill. I skated away without saying anything, but in my head I was thinking "who the F%$@ is this B*%#! and where does she get off telling me to watch my elbows". I've been skating with my league for over 6 years so maybe I think I don't need anybody's feedback/criti... Fri, 11 Jan 2013 17:53:31 EST December Rewards & January Goals I'm not going to rehash the details of my december goals , but I earned ~ $93 worth of goodies for myself with all my various goals. I ordered a rebounder (mini-tampoline) and a hair crimper/straightener from Amazon. I think my main takeaways from December are:
1. Blog more to solidify in my mind all the other things I'm gaining from this lifestyle change as well as problem solve things that aren't working for me.
2. Sleep! I need to continually make an effort to get enough, even... Wed, 9 Jan 2013 18:16:34 EST Can't sleep clowns will eat me...

My first 3 hour derby practice was pretty awesome. I was cranky at first again, but throughout the practice I felt like I really let go of my issues and allowed myself to work on things. I think my problem is that it is so competitive and I just feel really inadequate when skating with so many talented chicks. Since 2013 is the year of positivity I just try to remember that I am good too and if I work really har... Tue, 8 Jan 2013 01:15:10 EST Squee, it's like i'm a newbie again! So I just filled out the official form to be evaluated for a travel team. Ok, so this is going to sound like a lot of dramatic whining, but its how I feel:

I had a HORRIBLE day at work yesterday. There are 3 people in my department and I knew one of them had requested the day off. Well sure enough the other girl came in really really sick and ended up leaving. I was stressed to the max all day trying to keep up with the work of 3 people. By the time work was over I had a massive headache and a bad attitude. I wanted to ditch derby practice. But in ... Thu, 3 Jan 2013 11:16:40 EST letting it all go Ok, I spent 50% of this weekend pouting about my weight gain. And I spent the other 50% skating and spending time with people I really love and care about. I have to say that 2012 has been a much healthier year for me. Therefore I am letting go any negativity surrounding the scale. I am commiting to a healthy lifestyle regardless of where I'm at in the journey. I know that if I continue to focus on the good habits I can maintain and not fret about why the weight isn't coming off faster m... Mon, 31 Dec 2012 11:22:12 EST ~sigh~ more weight gain. 192 39 The scale is not my friend. I am officially getting discouraged. For the second week in a row I've lost no weight. In fact, over the past two weeks I've gained 1.2 lbs. I attribute this to the fact that I LOVE cheese, I drink too much, and I ate a lot on Christmas.

So the plus side is its ONLY 1.2 lbs. But the negative side is I'm feeling a little defeated. I know that the scale doesn't define me but it makes me feel like all this effort isn't ... I need to refocus and look critically at what I've been doing because the scale moved up one lb. this week. 198

I'm pretty upset because I've been putting a LOT of effort in. So here's my ideas of what may be wrong:
1. I've been eating too much cheese. I track it all and have been eating in range for the most part but I should be snacking on veggies, not brie. Its better if I keep it as a more occasional and special treat anyway.
2. I have been drinking W... Sun, 23 Dec 2012 12:57:50 EST Week 3 - a super long update w/ shoutouts to all my homies :) So first I wanted to take a look at my monthly goals since December is FLYING. Stupid Holidays! Also, it is so much easier for me to get in exercise when my husband isn't around dragging me to movies and restaurants. Oh well, I made up for it by having a decent day yesterday. Back on track today.

I did lose one pound last week. Which puts me right on track for my long term goal. Woo Hoo!

I still need to update on my The Spark program goals.... I'm feeling better today. I went to the gym last night after training the newbs. I got over 10,000 steps so take that!

My plan to compensate for my sedentary desk job is to run laps around the giant table in the training room during my 15 minute breaks. Well, walking for now until my knee gets a little better. But i'm confident that just that little extra will add up. I already have 4297 steps today, and I still have a whole 2 hour derby practice to skate through.

G... Wed, 12 Dec 2012 15:50:55 EST
