BARB0863's SparkPeople Blog BARB0863's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Spring is here, the boat is calling and now to get back to it Over a year ago my guy friend and his brother bought a project boat, more a project small yacht at 29.5 feet, 30 . I have been lucky to be able to help with some projects and take on the task of feeding us using only an electric skillet. With his encouragement I purchased a 2 piece swim suit (which I hadn't owned since I was a kid) at Target, what a feeling to put on a 2 piece and think to myself - not that bad, not that bad at all! We had some great times on the boat even when th... Tue, 21 Mar 2017 23:12:40 EST Who's that in the mirror? I have a niece's wedding coming up next June, 7 months away. I hate dress shopping, shopping for casual clothes is fun - dress shopping No, just No. With the weather getting colder I went into Gordman's to see what they had in long sleeve tees that I could layer. They only had them in Juniors sizes. I thought since I'm here I might as well check the clearance racks, you never know and I don't know how much weight I may lose between now and June. The first rack was all long, beachy type dresse... Mon, 17 Nov 2014 17:22:54 EST 40 pounds lost! If anyone asked me in August 2012 if I thought I could lose 40 pounds (about 1/5 of what I weighed at the time) I would have said no way. Well, as of now I'm down 40 pounds. I'm currently wearing a size large in tops and range from a 10 to 14 in jeans depending on the brand. I still have some jiggly spots but just need to start doing some toning exercises and see where we go. I've changed my goal weight a few times during my journey so today I've changed it to reflect what I'll weigh when I l... Thu, 30 Oct 2014 01:32:31 EST Hopscotch Sitting here at my computer getting ready for work today I read something on the Panic boards that reminded me of something that happened earlier in the summer.

I haven't played hopscotch in many, many years. One day, earlier this summer, I was taking my walk around my neighborhood (my exercise). As I was walking I came upon a hopscotch game drawn on the sidewalk. It brought back so many memories of drawing the game and finding the perfect rock to toss. Lucky for me it was mid-day... Wed, 24 Sep 2014 16:02:37 EST Birthday present for myself... When I was just starting to work my mother told me something that has stuck with me all these years. She said when you get older you need to buy yourself a birthday present that you want, not what you may need. Over the years I've done just that but as I've gotten older I also try to find something I wouldn't normally spend a great deal of money on. I've gotten more frugal as I've aged and I don't really need a bunch of "stuff". I was in Kohl's about a week before my birthday just to look aro... Sat, 6 Sep 2014 00:27:20 EST Today is my 51st birthday! Today I turn 51! Although I don't have any blood family I will be celebrating with my "family" of friends! I'm getting cupcakes from Sam's Club to celebrate. I refuse to not celebrate even though I'm working a fair with my girlfriend. I feel the best I have in a lot of years, physically and mentally. My "family" already knows today is cupcake day, I've been telling some people for a couple weeks, lol.

Today is going to be a good day no matter what! I only regret that some of my "f... Sun, 31 Aug 2014 10:55:13 EST Pizza for dinner? Oh no! I have some younger friends, I refer to them as "the kids" since they're young enough to be my kids, that I see on a weekly basis. We usually do dinner somewhere and catch up on our week and what's coming up. I really got serious about tracking everything within the last week or so and haven't told anyone that I'm working on losing a few pounds again. Not that I don't want to tell them, it's more of I want to see if I can do this without everyone worrying what I can and can't eat. Honestly, I... Fri, 8 Aug 2014 11:06:43 EST Back from Sevierville I just finished working a wholesale trade show with one of my bosses. I was nervous since I'd never worked with her before. She was as easy to work with as he was, what a great time we had! We had dinner at Cracker Barrel every night and tried different things, we agreed they have a nice atmosphere and a good cup of coffee. The show didn't turn out to be good but it gave me the opportunity to get to know her a little better. I do some trade shows on my own and working with her gave me the cha... Mon, 11 Nov 2013 14:06:10 EST I'm not complaining but now I understand a little bit better Being a plus-sized woman I never understood how anyone could be frustrated with being able to wear different size jeans (sometimes by the same label). Well, now I understand.

When I started my journey I wore a size 18 jeans, my first drop to size 16 was wonderful. Next stop, size 14. I got to that point and then on the short trip to size 12. I'm happy that I can fit in size 12... actually I told someone I don't think I've worn a size 12 since I was 12 (not really that much of an e... Wed, 12 Dec 2012 23:23:36 EST Boots, boots and more boots! I usually just wear sneakers, I have a couple pairs of dress shoes just in case but they don't get much wear. My niece had mentioned she needed a new pair of boots but couldn't quite decided what style or where she was going to get them. She is really good about not buying something just to have it, she has to like something to add it to her wardrobe. That got me thinking, I haven't worn boots in ages (ok, I am old enough that that means more than a good number of years). When I was out runni... Thu, 6 Dec 2012 22:39:04 EST New unexpected problem with losing weight :) When I started my journey I would wear jeans, whatever shirt I grabbed and my sneakers. After taking a quick look in the mirror off I would go. Now that I've lost weight I have a new unexpected problem... I look in the mirror and rethink what I'm wearing. Not that it's a bad thing but I just can't throw on whatever and go. I've gotten to the point where I care about looking good in what I'm wearing. Case in point - last week I was going to meet up with a couple I know for a soda. I put on my ... Mon, 3 Dec 2012 23:55:57 EST Samsung Galaxy S III for me! I've had my old Palm Pre for over 2 years now and have been eligible for an upgrade since May. When the iPhone 5 was on the way I debated about switching to an iPhone. I talked to a friend who knows a lot more about the new phones than I do and she recommended I get the Galaxy S III. The phone has been at Sam's Club for $148.99, too much for my budget but would have been a great "chip in" Christmas present (family chips in what they can instead of buying something). I've been looking at Black... Mon, 19 Nov 2012 00:30:13 EST Committing to new size Ok, not that I'm afraid of commitment but when it comes to this journey I'm going into new, unfamiliar territory. So far I've lost a little over 20 pounds and am getting close to resetting my goal weight. It's been awhile since I bought anything that made me feel pretty, I live (and work) in t-shirts and jeans (nothing wrong with that at all).

I go to Sam's Club weekly at least, to check specials, see what clothes and books they have and walk around. Three weeks ago I picked u... Thu, 15 Nov 2012 22:03:43 EST Almost Pizza for dinner I sometimes get creative with my food and try to find a good, healthy substitute for favorites. I like cheese pizza but know the counts can be high. Well, tonight I decided to try to create an Almost Pizza for dinner. I took a Joseph's Flax, Oat Bran & Whole Wheat Pita Bread spread on 2 Tablespoons of Market Pantry Traditional Spaghetti Sauce and topped it with 3 Tablespoons of store brand Fancy Shredded Parmesan Cheese since I didn't have Mozzarella. Microwaved for 1 minute and tada! Almost ... Tue, 16 Oct 2012 20:34:37 EST What do restaurants have to fear? I knew I was going to Texas Roadhouse last night for dinner to support a local fundraiser. I figured I would go to their website and check the nutrition info so I could map out what I would have to eat. Why don't all restaurants have nutrition info available so we can make healthy choices? The only info I could find was on other (non restaurant) sites. I know that they all offer some healthy options but why are they afraid to make the info public? Do they think that people won't go out to eat... Wed, 26 Sep 2012 17:41:10 EST Mini goals I set mini goals to keep me going on rough days. My first was to see the scale under 200 lbs, it may not sound like much but I haven't been under 200 in many years. My second mini goal was to fit into a size 16 jeans. I bought my jean capris at Target (size 18) awhile back and the waist is too big but I didn't know if it was really that I had lost weight or they stretched that much. Today I was in Target checking something for my niece and decided to grab a couple pairs of size 16 to see if I... Mon, 24 Sep 2012 22:56:51 EST Thoughts on my birthday. I am a year older and although I don't feel any wiser I know I can do this. I am on a journey to better health. It is a commitment to myself to take care of myself. I am almost to the end of my second week and already can tell the difference mentally. I didn't let the bit of rain yesterday stop me from walking, I just threw on my hoodie, grabbed my mp3 player and off I went. For my birthday today I had lunch out and bought a cake which I took (and left) at my nieces house. Before we went to d... Sat, 1 Sep 2012 00:27:28 EST Isaac made it to Northwest Mississippi Isaac may be here but I didn't let a little drizzly rain stop me from walking. I grabbed my hoodie, mp3 player and headed out. It felt great knowing that I was doing something positive for myself when I could have so easily put off walking today. 27 Thu, 30 Aug 2012 21:53:12 EST
