AZURELITE's SparkPeople Blog AZURELITE's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Winter Already? A long, beautiful autumn ended abruptly here in Ontario with a huge snow fall less than 2 weeks ago. The holiday season is here, we are cozy in our new home on the farm, gifts are wrapped and today is mostly about food prep.

Our daughter and her fiance bought the farm from us in the spring. They are excited to host their Christmas morning at their house this year and we're excited to join them! Our son drives home from Toronto this afternoon so we're all here for Christmas morni... Sat, 24 Dec 2016 07:41:26 EST September already? Hi Everyone,
Hope all is well in your world as you carry on in your journey.

It's been a whirlwind of a summer for us:
Moved into our new smaller home; farm sold to DD & her fiancé; purging farmhouse; 6 cousins came to visit from England not long after new home was set up with the basics for them! Took another ThetaHealing class. Trip to Europe (Germany, Austria, Italy) ended a few days ago (still battling jet lag) ... did LOTS of walking up and down many streets in anci... Fri, 9 Sep 2016 07:14:46 EST Just stopping by ... again Hi Folks,
Wow, nearly 4 months since my last blog. Quick note to say, all is well! Still making progress on my own healing with ThetaHealing. Still watching our new home being built (nearly done ... should be moving in within the month). Still back and forth between home (weekends) and condo (weekdays).
2
Excited that my daughter is now engaged (wedding May of next year)! She and her fiancé are both losing weight too; I stayed home with them a couple of weeks ag... Wed, 16 Mar 2016 07:36:23 EST Just stopping by... Hi Folks,
I don't seem to get to SP very much any more. Just thought I'd provide a quick update.

Earthing... I continue to use the Earthing mat each night (it's stretched across the bottom of the bed). I also gravitate to it during the day, have a quick rest and feel refreshed and calmer each time I use it.
434
Halogen Oven ... I tried it several times, and I've no doubt it does a good job. But it needs to be used enough to be familiar with it. And I... Tue, 24 Nov 2015 18:46:47 EST Of Halogens and Earthing Another amazing early autumn day is dawning here in Ontario!
I've been up since before dawn, doing my Leslie Sansone style walking in place while watching TV (Tiny Homes episode).

The building of our small (but not tiny) home is on hold right now, waiting for 4 windows and our front door. After their arrival & installation, next up will be siding, electricity and plumbing. It's really taking shape and we still hope to be moved in before Christmas.

As anyone who h... Sun, 27 Sep 2015 07:24:46 EST Time to catch up Wow, several months have come and gone & here it is late in July!
I've taken 8 more Theta classes since I last blogged. Lots more changes, but the coolest thing that has happened: My scoliosis is straightening and so far, I've grown nearly 3 inches taller! Which does good things for my BMI!!

40 30

Today, the excavators are here, the old shed has been torn down, and the area for our garden suite is being cleared & levelled as I write this. ... Wed, 22 Jul 2015 14:41:13 EST Over 2 months... Wow! It's over 2 months since I last blogged.

The biggest news is that Theta Healing continues to help heal my legs. Working on myself, and with 3 other practitioners or teachers working on me too, I'm getting to the bottom of some very deep beliefs & issues, releasing them and getting better.

I'm signed up for 2 more Theta courses in April (can't wait) and continuing to learn how to use this modality with more confidence by working on myself and several friends.
... Thu, 19 Mar 2015 16:18:54 EST Baby It's Cold Outside Brrrrr... cold week here in SWON (south western ontario). We've stayed in the city for the weekend. There are too many roads closed because of falling and drifting snow in the area around our farm.
425
But, that means I can go to the city market this morning and THAT means I can visit with one of my Sedona buddies (I haven't seen her in over 3 years)!
334
Yesterday, I went to the Goodness Me! store which has just opened up in Guelph. I bought a... Sat, 10 Jan 2015 07:12:32 EST Back on Track... ...Well, for two days anyway and today will be 3!

This blog will be all over the map; just a few sentences to cover the highlights since I last blogged!

Had a busy time (as has everyone else) over the Christmas break, but had an enjoyable time at all our celebrations! Ate too many sweets though, and my weight is much higher than I'd like it to be. A 'Goodness Me' store has opened up near our condo, and I'm going to a free seminar on 'The Power of Food' in mid January..... Wed, 31 Dec 2014 08:45:40 EST Sept 27, 2014 After a solid, though short night of sleep I find i have good energy today! Good thing, too, as we (DH, DD's BF and I) will be moving out the rest of our belongings from the cottage today. Due to a glitch which almost stopped the deal from closing, our buyers said to leave things there (incase the deal fell through, so our furniture would be there to stage it), and they didn't move anything into our cottage either... since it was their deal which was the glitch.. visualize the domino effec... Sat, 27 Sep 2014 07:59:50 EST Sept 19/14 - Catching up! Hello Everyone!
I sat down here several days ago to write this blog, got interrupted, and it didn't happen. Today's the day though!

A lot has gone on in my life since I last blogged.

1) DH and I had a lovely time travelling to Vancouver Island (I could live there!) and then we met our dear friends from New Zealand and took the Alaskan cruise with them. So great to see them again!!!

2) My parents property sold (while we were on holiday) Closed Aug 27th! ... Fri, 19 Sep 2014 07:52:24 EST Photo Shoot! Last night, my daughter did a photo shoot for me! Can't figure out how to add the photo to my photos section anymore, so I'm just going to add 2 photos here. Why 2? Because I love them both and can't decide which one I like most!!

I'm so proud of my DD - she is a lovely young woman who is working hard to develop her photography business (9 weddings this summer)!

Blessings of joy, peace & light to all of you!
Azurelite

<img src="http://photos-ak.spar... Thu, 22 May 2014 12:47:54 EST finally doing better Been down and out with a nasty bug for nearly 2 weeks. Finally starting to get some energy back ... even did a full T'ai chi Chih practice yesterday. Turned the corner when a friend suggested a mustard plaster... was too sick to think about that.

DH goes back to the city tomorrow; I'll be staying home... plan is to do some spring cleaning at the farm house...long overdue. Hope I feel up to it though.

Have lost all the conditioning I'd done to get my legs feeling bette... Sun, 27 Apr 2014 10:25:06 EST Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow! Yesterday, we held our Celebration of Life for Mom. A lovely afternoon ... I could see her there smiling, chatting with others and singing along with us as we sang three of her favourite songs! Miss you Mom, but we know you're in our hearts and we carry on!

Today and tomorrow, I'll be tidying and dusting the condo and running errands. Also, tomorrow afternoon (weather permitting) I'll be out at mom and dad's property as we found someone to take dad's rug loom! Hurray! So great... Mon, 14 Apr 2014 09:48:26 EST Forward Some challenges with spring runoff at my parents' home this week. My sisters and I hope they are all taken care of now as no one can be there over the weekend. We started clearing the basement of it's junk and treasures the last time we were there. We'll meet there again on Monday, but most if not all of the time there will be spent preparing for my mom's celebration of life / memorial on the 13th of April.

Other than that, been keeping bookkeeping caught up and I find myself wa... Fri, 4 Apr 2014 04:58:51 EST Feeling Euphoric! My sisters and I have finished clearing all the rooms at my parents' home. We've hauled out recyclables, garbage and many boxes and bags to goodwill. The home and property went up for sale yesterday! There have been 2 agent showings already, and another one on Sunday morning has been booked!
30
There is still much to do: large basement and a 2 storey shed to clear, and we need to go through the valuables that are left in the house and see that things go where they a... Thu, 27 Mar 2014 18:10:48 EST Friday Jan 24 2014 Went to Service Canada to start paperwork re Mom's death. Had a mini meltdown there, but that's ok... tears are gonna flow now and then for awhile yet. I seem to need to cry as I realize I'm doing these tasks for the last time for my folks (even just paying a bill).
46
Went to T'ai Chi Chih again today (first class this semester). Reviewing the moves and a good solid practice for an hour. Always feel better after practicing this lovely set of movements!
9... Fri, 24 Jan 2014 13:52:42 EST Monday, Monday I feel like today is the first day in a long time that will be back to normal. That might change if a Sedona buddy can visit though.

But for the most part, things are back to normal. It has been a tough couple of months. My Dad died in early Nov, my Mom died in early January, and my mother-in-law died in mid January. Sometimes it seems I've done nothing but grieve for the last 2 months. However there were some lovely times spent saying our farewells to each of them that I wou... Mon, 20 Jan 2014 06:32:32 EST Quick Catch up! Hello to all my SP friends!
Been a busy time for us (and I'm sure it has been for you as well ... tis the season).

Sorted out and wrapped gifts (I could just HUG the person who invented reusable gift bags, and most of our still have the stick on gift tags on them.. choose the appropriate size bag of the appropriate person, put gift in, tape shut, voila! No garbage created either Win/Win)!!

Just finished Christmas baking. Chose only 2 family favourite recipes (Hell... Thu, 19 Dec 2013 10:20:38 EST A good day! Stayed on track food wise, got lots of fitness too.
Met my sister at mom and dad's house. Got lots of things done today. Took another large bin out to the road (recycling), 4 large bags to goodwill and 2 small garbage bags tossed. Whew... we are getting there!

Enjoying a few moments quiet after supper. Might get some knitting done tonight too.

Tomorrow off to the nearby Service Canada to take applications in for my mom now that dad's passed away. Knitting gro... Tue, 10 Dec 2013 19:14:07 EST My Status has changed (but I can't change it on SP)! Thought I would check in with a blog, since no matter what computer I check in from, I can't get access to my status to change it anymore. I put a message on the Tech/Site message board, but so far, no one has answered it.

Anyway, I'm doing ok. It's been an emotional roller coaster at times since my dad died, but I am making progress. After some floundering, I've finally been directed to a website with a checklist of what has to be done when someone dies... so now I can reall... Sun, 8 Dec 2013 06:08:54 EST Dad On Friday afternoon, my dad passed away. He had a heart attack and was gone before my sisters and I could reach the nursing home. The staff was able to get Mom into the 'Comfort Care' room where he was. They told him he was there and he nodded so we know he knew she was with him, holding his hand. And then the staff, whoever was nearby and could leave what they were doing, gathered in the room with Mom & Dad, providing their loving support and comfort.

Dad will be cremated toda... Mon, 11 Nov 2013 07:59:45 EST Coping Well, on Friday night, my sisters and I were called in to the nursing home. Dad was in great distress and really when I saw him, I didn't think he'd make it through the night. However, the great staff at the nursing home pulled out all the stops and got him to calm down so he'd stop hyperventilating, got him a second oxygen machine & wider tubing so he'd get more oxygen at once, and eventually we all came back here to the condo (closest to the nursing home) and slept. We all went back to v... Tue, 5 Nov 2013 13:53:15 EST Tough Week Another busy week, and an emotionally tough one. We were told that my dad is in one of the highest levels of COPD. His breathing is ragged & he gets out of breath so easily. So we are dealing with the fact that he may not be with us much longer.

However, we are doing what we can to make his life enjoyable. Last night DH and I bought him a new 32 inch TV with wireless headphones. He was using a very small TV that the home supplied, which would have been fine, except he couldn't... Fri, 1 Nov 2013 07:48:25 EST Catching up! First off, just have to say the rebounding, stretching and T'ai Chi Chih exercise combo, plus paying more attention to how the carbs combine with other foods is paying off! Down another 2 lbs this week, and was finally able to put this in the weight loss chart as I'm .4 lbs below where I was the last time I recorded my weight!! Onward and downward, I'd say!

Next, to recap an exhaustingly busy week. Having moved Dad into the nursing home on Tues, the 'fun' had only just begun. ... Sat, 26 Oct 2013 12:25:00 EST What a Great Day! Well, it's all worked out so well! We got the call this morning that there was a bed for Dad at the nursing home. This was the only day that I didn't have appointments this week, and I knew my sisters were busy today (and each live about 2 hours away).

So... I am honoured to have been able to help my Dad. I arrived at his place at 12:30, had him to the nursing home by 2:30 (after several phone calls and loading the car). Got all the paperwork done, unloaded the car & took th... Tue, 22 Oct 2013 20:23:55 EST Why Seniors Still Need Newspapers... My sister just sent me this story in an email. What a fun way to start my day:
**************
I was visiting my daughter last night when I asked if I could borrow a
newspaper.

"This is the 21st century," she said. "We don't waste money on
newspapers. Here, use my iPad."

I can tell you this. That fly never knew what hit him.
***************
Speaking of iPads, this reminded me of a funny video which I haven't shared here yet:
(nope... Fri, 18 Oct 2013 07:52:59 EST An Interesting Meal! My Sedona buddy was here this morning. She brought her assessment of my nutrition, with lots of good suggestions.... I now have 25-30 pages to read over and integrate!
We went to Rawlicious for lunch... it was both raw and delicious! I had the Pad Thai, my friend had a sandwich (the 'bread' was sprouts dried on a dehydrator) and we both had a 'bite' for dessert (almonds, cinnamon, etc, ground up together and rolled in coconut. Yummy!

Now if I had a raw food chef, I could tot... Thu, 17 Oct 2013 13:58:18 EST A Fun Week! Drove back to the city yesterday, then after lunch headed to Dad's house where I met with the real estate agent so she could see the house and property. One of my sisters was there too, and after the agent left, we cleaned out the 2nd fridge and unplugged it. I got to the nursing home in time to have supper with my Mom. Both Mom & Dad looked good ... so nice to see this after the rough patches they've been through of late.
244
Today I have knitting group meeting, t... Wed, 16 Oct 2013 07:00:37 EST Congratulations, Alice! A very dear lady has won the Nobel Prize for Literature. Alice Munro is a sweet, down-to-earth woman who genuinely appreciates everyone she meets, including me! You see, Alice comes from Huron County, in Southwestern Ontario, and grew up not far from where I was born (Wingham). She and her husband still live in Huron County. I saw her while I was at the Farmers Market in Goderich a few weeks ago. And I'm very thrilled to say that I know her.

This prize couldn't go to a more ... Question: What do Bryan Adams, The Eagles, The Eurythmics, Elton John, Joni Mitchell, The Rankins, Robert Plant, Arcade Fire, Mumford & Sons and Jackson Brown (and I know there are more but can't remember them just now) have in common?

Answer: They are in my rebounding playlist!

Yes, I'm so pleased that I bought my Bellicon! Today I did 3 workouts of 15, 15 and 20 minutes each. I am able to work up a sweat 198 in each of these workouts by rocking out to ... Wed, 9 Oct 2013 20:55:46 EST Tai Chi Chih Yesterday I had my first Tai Chi Chih class. And at the end of the class, having learned 4 movements and 1 posture, my legs and hips already felt better - in fact it felt like I was waking up all over! Next week there is no class as the instructor is away, and this is perfect, for I have to be away too!!
355
I've ordered the Tai Chi Chih DVD from their main website, so I will have instructions from the founder Justin Stone, as well as from my teacher.

Doi... Sat, 28 Sep 2013 09:16:24 EST Still Bouncing! Up to 40 minutes today (2 x 20min). I'm loving that I can get up and bounce for 20 min while DH is still asleep as this rebounder is so quiet!

The really deep pain in my hip has gradually disappeared since I got the rebounder 2 weeks ago, and my body is toning up, my balance has improved (so much so that I can do some dancing again).

Tomorrow I'm reciprocating a drum healing session for a didgeridoo healing.

Friday morning is the first lesson of the Tai Chi... Wed, 25 Sep 2013 21:42:52 EST Life is Good! Just finished 20 minutes straight on the rebounder, then did some stretching. Such a great way to wake up!
353
Yesterday my sisters and I met at Dad's for the CCAC meeting. He'll be on the list to get into the same nursing home as Mom pretty soon. The nursing home is aware of this development and is making plans to take him in as soon as they can after he goes of the list. After the CCAC rep left, the 3 of us started sorting out Dad's clothing (for example, he can't... Fri, 20 Sep 2013 07:21:41 EST Monday Sept 16 Have done 35 min on the rebounder in total today + 5 minutes stretching. Feel good!

Had a friend over for supper, after which we went to the theatre to see Blue Jasmine. Wow, if Cate Blanchett doesn't get an award for that performance, there's something wrong. Amazing acting!

Tomorrow DH & I head out to a conference. Since we'll be in a city near one of my sisters, we are going to take them out for supper (it's my bro-in-laws birthday tomorrow)!

Hope you ... Thu, 12 Sep 2013 08:05:37 EST A New Day, A New Week! Resumed some exercise yesterday... I have simply been walking up and down our country laneway (200 steps return). A tad boring (understatement) but this way if my legs or back give me too much grief I'm close to the house! Yesterday walked 25 minutes (3000 steps) and today have walked 15 min (1500 steps). Did some leg strengthening with the resistance bands yesterday too.

Picked pears and apples to take to my RMT. The massage last week was very helpful in releasing tightness t... Mon, 9 Sep 2013 08:02:01 EST What? September already?! It has been awhile since I've blogged. Life has been full - and it still is

So, quick recap:
Did 10 sessions with Dr. Chousky in TO for peripheral neuropathy. Got some improvement in my legs, continuing to do the daily exercises and plan to go back there for the infrared/red/cold laser sessions monthly for awhile.

Researching rebounders again. So first off, want to tell you that I did indeed finish the 10 day cleanse, lost 3 lbs and then headed off to Italy.

And gained 3 lbs back again, but no more than that! Had a great time, walked a LOT (up hill and down dale as it was hilly everywhere we went). At supper time, DH and I would order 1 each of appetizer, first, second, salad & dessert courses and split them all, giving us the perfect amount to eat and allowing us to try many new dishes. <... Sun, 9 Jun 2013 11:03:04 EST Unconventional but it seems to work... I've discovered that our new recliners are a great way for me to stretch and strengthen my legs. I recline the chair, then slowly push the leg support down to the very bottom (these chairs are stiff so I really have to work). Once down, I let my legs come up ... very slowly and I have to work against allowing the chair to put my legs up fast. Have done this several times in past few days and I notice more strength in my legs, especially when climbing stairs.

Acupuncture, followe... Fri, 7 Jun 2013 08:22:56 EST Doing ok! A combination of stretches for sciatica, acupuncture & radionics has meant that my leg pain has decreased and I've been able to build up some cardio minutes again. Started with the 10 min/day about a month ago and can now do 30-40 min at a time! Hurray! But better than that is the fact that I can walk without pain whereas before every step was painful. Still a ways to go as I get the odd twinge now and then, but all in all, very improved!

Been watching my food intake a lot clos... Tue, 28 May 2013 11:50:26 EST Starting again... This is hard to admit, but I have gained back nearly all the weight I lost since starting SP over 3 years ago. And so I start again!

Been doing ok these past few days. It has been tough going through the sciatic pain for the past month or so, but finally I'm able to do 30 to 40 min workouts again.

Now.. if I could only find away to get over the drudgery of tracking food.
