AUNTYEMM's SparkPeople Blog AUNTYEMM's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Into the job wilderness I guess everyone thinks I've fallen off the health wagon. Not so. Even though I've had some tough times, I have maintained my weight loss within 4-5 pounds. I gain and I lose and I am okay with that for now. The last weight I did was 166 and I am usually feeling pretty satisfied. I'd like to get rid of another 10 or 15 pounds but it will happen when it happens. I am not really worried about it.
Unfortunately, I do have some situations that I wish were different. On two days before Chris... Thu, 3 Feb 2011 15:12:28 EST I believe I can fly! Today, sitting at my desk with Youtube tunes playing, I heard a song I haven't heard in years. The singer was not the one who made it a hit but I love James Ingram for his romantic songs. This song was "I Believe I Can Fly". I stopped everything when I heard it. I was so excited at the lyrics, especially this part.
I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
See me runn... Tue, 29 Jun 2010 11:04:37 EST 5K Race and Kayaking on the Potomac This weekend has been awesome! I am among the luckiest humans on earth. I have such marvelous friends and the love of life wells up in me.
I'll start with Saturday. I have a wonderful friend named Mary who told me about a 5K race at her church. I arrived early and parked in a nice shady spot. It was pretty warm already. I went into the church hall and went to pick up my info on the race. I was given a green teeshirt with "LOSING TO LIVE" on the front. There were more people arriving an... Sun, 20 Jun 2010 19:56:56 EST The race for The Cure Last night as I was almost finished with my blog, we lost our electricity. When it came back, my blog was gone, of course. So hopefully I can get this done today.
So I woke early as usual and I dressed in my new running suit. I will post the pictures on my webpage. It fits perfectly and I felt good. I had a small breakfast. My trainer said that carb loading was a bad idea unless I wanted to visit the porta-potties.
I left the house by 6 and headed to the Metro. When I got there, i... Tue, 8 Jun 2010 17:39:51 EST getting ready for something new Many of you know me and my story. I started a journey 2 years ago to get healthy. Gosh! I never anticipated the many facets to this new life. But last Saturday morning was one of the brightest facets on this jewel.
I had been thinking for several months about ways to challenge myself and I began exercising more and I finally decided that I was going to get serious about walking and maybe even running. My wonderful trainer told me about a spot very near where I live where I could go walk... Mon, 7 Jun 2010 17:32:43 EST a little walk First of all, I am still riding high on enthusiasm and motivation from the Spark Convention held last month. The thing I mostly remember is the wonderful community feeling every moment we were there. I love to look at all the pictures that were taken and laugh as I remember things that went on that day. And I am still working with the concept of MINDFUL EATING. I never considered it in the past but now I truly work on the principle STOP. This stands for
S- Select the food you are going ... Thu, 22 Oct 2009 11:57:16 EST my dear friend Dawn, I know you will read this and I hope I have been accurate and complete. If I do forget anything, let me know and I'll add it.

I truly was sorry the convention was over but when I set out to my latest journey I was excited. Since I left Covington later than I had planned originally I didn't get a very good start and I drove pretty much non stop except for a couple of rest stops. At first it was just long turnpikes. I actually missed a turn and asked at one of the rest stops. I ... Sat, 3 Oct 2009 02:10:12 EST The Spark Your Life Convention To those who haven't read part one- this is a continuation of my journeys and joys last weekend.
I awoke early Saturday around 5AM. I went down to the hotel's gym. I was alone and I had a nice workout for almost an hour. Then I went back and my roommate Maha was up, so we went down to have breakfast. The hotel had a nice area where we ate breakfast and it was another meet and greet for me. It amazes me still that so many people knew me and I loved the attention. I had a nice healthy bre... Wed, 30 Sep 2009 20:20:21 EST the Pre-Convention Time I promised everyone I would do this blog so here it goes!
The reason I seem to be unsure is that there were just so many things that took place over such a short time I'm afraid I might forget to tell it all. It was a life changing experience!
I decided to take a full week off work, the first time I've taken a vacation since I started at this job almost 4 years ago. I decided that since the convention was on Saturday I would take from Thursday the 24th through the following Wednes... Wed, 30 Sep 2009 10:02:11 EST Just before I leave for Cincinatti Several people have asked me why I haven't done a blog in a while. Well mostly it is just no time. I work a full time job which is about 50 hours per week and then I have my time with my trainer,Rachel 3 times a week. On weekends I have a volunteer assignment with my special adaptive aquatics (which means I teach handicapped kids to swim). So my "free" time is pretty limited.
But I do have something new on my horizon. I am leaving tomorrow to go to the Spark convention. I have a check-i... Wed, 23 Sep 2009 08:47:21 EST White Water for Independence To those who know me and my history here on Sparkpeople, this is part 2 of my Independence Day. For me, it is the best part of Independence- freedom not only for living in this marvelous country and its unparralled freedoms, but my own personal independence in a new healthy life and FUN.
Today has already started wonderfully for me. I fulfilled my latest gift to me by riding a horse in the magnificent Maryland hills. Now it is time for my next step.
I got to River Riders in Harper's... Mon, 6 Jul 2009 06:52:44 EST my successes are not my own Many of you have commented on my successes and I am delighted at how far I've come and confident about my future- BUT that does not mean I am not plagued with doubts, fears and insecurities. Every day I get up and look in the mirror. I have horrible arms with long flaps that look gross. My tummy just looks saggy, baggy and awful. I can grab handfuls of flab at my thighs. I know this is normal and ONE DAY I may do something about it. But it is a depressing sight and the only way I find the str... Fri, 26 Jun 2009 10:39:19 EST Happy Father's Day Hope everyone is having a great Father's Day. both of my parents are gone now but this day does make me think of my dad. I was born (3rd of 4 girls) in Washington DC. Daddy was A bus driver in the city and we lived in the city all my childhood. I think Daddy decided I would be the tomboy of the crowd of women. I learned to play baseball and I loved going to see the Washington Senators (now in Minnesota) I was an avid fan. I was always eager to go with him to work whenever he could. If you rem... Sun, 21 Jun 2009 12:04:14 EST Saturday 6/20/09 Finally the weekend! But no rest for me. I have a 9AM meeting with my trainer Rachel. I seemed to be not entirely together. I got out of my car and the clouds opened up so by the time I got my gym bag out and literally ran to the gym, I was pretty wet. Of course I hadn't thought to take an umbrella. I went to the locker room and put my stuff in the locker and went to a treadmill. Soon as I started, I realized I had left my heart monitor in the trunk of the car in my other gym bag. So back out... Sat, 20 Jun 2009 19:46:16 EST Friday 6/19 Nutrition Sorry about not posting. I intended to post every day but life got in the way.
Yesterday I went to see a nutritionist. Kara is a pretty young lady who really knows her stuff. She is young enough to be my daughter, easily but we seemed to hit it off almost immediately. I brought her a copy of my last week's nutrition tracking and she looked them over. She made several comments about how I could switch things to make my intakes a little better. I actually took notes and I think I will sha... Fri, 19 Jun 2009 15:32:55 EST 6/16/09 At the Gym Tonight I meet with Rachel, my trainer. I tease her about being mean, but really she is a marshmallow. I could push her around or make her feel sorry for me, but what would that do? A subtle kind of sabotage, is how I see it. And if I am truly dedicated to being healthy, I must not let that happen. So tonight I will work hard and ignore the inner voice that says This is too hard!
I still don't get the people who tell me that they get an adrenaline rush with exercise. I just get tired. Bu... Tue, 16 Jun 2009 15:47:59 EST Monday 6/15/09 I am going to try to get a blog a day done. I won't just limit what I am doing each day since that is not all that interesting. Most days, like today, I am not feeling very excited about going to work. I am an accountant for a small company and like a lot of places, we are struggling financially due to the economy. But we will weather this storm and come back stronger than ever. Just like a lot of us on our journey to healthy living. We just have to hang in there and it will get us through th... Mon, 15 Jun 2009 06:21:56 EST 6/14/09 I expect from some of the remarks from my teammates, that I may have overstated my time this day with my family, that this was to be a great big affair. Not so. But it was the first time that most of my extended family had seen me since I got serious about my journey into health. I was eager to show off to these relatives and I planned for the party. Yesterday I went to get my hair (long neglected) cut and colored to a toasty brown with red highlights. I was delighted with the effect. I then ... Thu, 28 May 2009 12:04:51 EST Wild and Wonderful West Virginia I'm back from the most beautiful weekend I've in many years. I left early Saturday morning and I got into Harper's Ferry WV around 10AM. The B&B where I stayed had a check in time of 3PM but the hostess was very nice and I dropped off my stuff and went out to a local pool I knew. I did my regular aqua aerobics and I enjoyed being able to do something so fun early on. After the swim, I went and had a nice lunch at Long John Silver's.They have a new menu including grilled salmon or tilapia. Th... Tue, 26 May 2009 12:01:21 EST My story Hi everyone,

I am new to the team and I'm just going to introduce myself and hopefully we will get to know each other and motivate and support each other.
I am 63 in a few weeks and I am a single lady(old maid) grin. I live in the far outskirts of Washington DC in Northern Virginia. I am an accountant so I am finally past the APRIL 15 curse. I still work everyday and I probably will for at least a few more years.
Almost a year ago I went to my doctor for the first ti... Thu, 16 Apr 2009 11:03:31 EST
