I'm not at goal, I don't exercise enough, I have gray hair, but I finally saw a me, I truly like. My clothes fit. I stopped wearing what I had and bought some things that fit. Will they always fit? I hope not, but I was tired of waiting "until I reach goal". My hair is at a length that I really like even though it takes a lot longer to care for. I always had very short hair, because I could just wash and go... Sat, 1 Jun 2013 15:09:40 EST Reading for Inspiration http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5277541 I recently read two books, which for me, were very helpful. The first was Fat Chance
Beating the Odds Against Sugar, Processed Food, Obesity, and Disease by Robert H. Lustig,M.D. The book was listed in one of the SP articles I read. The second was You Are Why You Eat by Dr. Ramani Durvasula.
I have been having trouble losing weight for years. I initially lost 40 pounds and then nothing for a couple of years. I am pretty much a vegetarian and I eat pretty healthy at meal times. I was... Thu, 7 Mar 2013 14:08:34 EST New Year, New Plan http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5186121 Today I started my new plan to lose weight and get healthier. I started a journal again! Each day I will record daily doings , meals and snacks eaten, and exercise done. I also set a weekly goal and a monthly goal. I also decided on rewards for meeting my goals. I have maintained my weight for several months, but it's time to move forward and get things done. Wed, 2 Jan 2013 12:35:49 EST Wasting Time http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5173216 TV is my downfall. When I get home from work I need the release. I work as a HHA and I do a lot of physical work, but I don't think of it as exercise. I need to do more, but it only seems to happen if I get to the gym.
I have free weights and could easily do them during commercials. I also have a balance ball on which I can do crunches or other exercises. Fri, 21 Dec 2012 21:13:53 EST Tired http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3334824 I cannot begin to tell you how tired I am. I do home health aide work as an LNA. I am currently working for 2 companies and doing a private duty case.
I'm so tired I can't even remember how to use a computer.
Monday is my day off from everything except my private duty case. I work with him from 7-9am and then in the evening every day. We never go to bed before 11:30 and now that the Celtics are in the playoffs, some nights it is 12:30 or 1:00. I have only been back at work for two weeks since my head injury in January and resulting post concussion syndrome which came me out of work for two months. Mon, 5 Apr 2010 09:22:19 EST When Specialists Aren't http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2915329 I saw the neurologist today to be sure my primary care doctor is handling every thing correctly. First of all he corrects the diagnosis. It's not really post concussion syndrome because I never had a concussion. I have post brain injury syndrome.
Then he proceeds to tell me that if I am under stress because it's going to be a lawsuit that may hinder my recovery. According to him people have ideas of making millions on a lawsuit and they just don't recover as quickly. (Feel free to read ... Mon, 22 Feb 2010 21:30:40 EST My Shoulder Saga http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2609290 I finished PT at the end of October. I continue to work on range of motion at home because my arm does not fully extend over my head and I cannot reach my scapula in back. Every day is better. I just finished my weight training and to my eye it looks like my arms are pretty equally extended when I raise them over my head.
I returned to one job, with restrictions, at the end of August. I returned to a second job two weeks later and I returned to my third job on Wednesday of this week. I ... Fri, 4 Dec 2009 08:21:23 EST Six Weeks of Nothing http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2238744 I think I made a bad decision. I had my shoulder surgery on Tuesday. No problems. I had my follow-up appointment yesterday and my first physical therapy. I am not allowed to use my shoulder muscles for six weeks! The physical therapist will do passive range of motion, but I can only move my left arm from the elbow. I spend most of the day and all night in a cryo sling to keep it cool and the swelling down.
I was able to do more before the surgery. I am left handed so this is a real bumm... Sat, 18 Jul 2009 10:06:30 EST MRI Results Follow-up http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2153541 I have a bone spur in my left shoulder which caused the tear in my rotator tendon. I have to have surgery to repair all the damage and remove the spur. I set the surgery for August 4, so I would have time to work and put money away to pay all the bills while I'm out of work for 6 weeks. I figure I need around 5700 dollars to pay the bills for July, August, and September. July happens to be a three paycheck month for one job and a five paycheck month for the other. My boss found out about the ... Mon, 15 Jun 2009 19:25:25 EST MRI Results http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2137971 My Dr.'s office called with the results of my MRI. It's not good. I have a tear in my rotator cuff and subdeltoid bursitis. I have an appointment with an orthopedic specialist on Friday to find out what my options are. I'm hoping to avoid surgery because of my job, but I'll do what I have to do to have full function.
I did go for a 5 mile walk last night with my son and it only took 95 minutes. That is 19 minutes a mile! Tue, 9 Jun 2009 21:06:26 EST MRI Done http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2131238 I finally had the MRI of my shoulder today. It was incredibly painful. My shoulder had to slide into a holder and my arm was wrapped in a pillow. This was all jammed against the side of the machine. I have been sleeping holding on to a pillow to keep my arm at the right angle, so you can imagine how painful it was to have it jammed against my side. I was in tears by the time it was over. Some pictures had to be done twice because my arm was moving involuntarily. I'm glad it's over. I hope the... Sun, 7 Jun 2009 19:10:21 EST MRI http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2117614 I finally got an appointment for an MRI of my left shoulder. My PT asked for it on May 7, but my Primary care physician was out of the office the whole month of May. I have an appointment for Sunday. Maybe now I'll get some answers so I can use my arm again. Even using the computer is painful. I am left handed so I have been very limited in what I can do. If I do too much I pay for it the next day. I need my arm! Tue, 2 Jun 2009 21:11:41 EST Trying to Do the Right Thing http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2044760 I love being told to take care of myself and then having it all go wrong. After not having dental insurance for the last four years I finally got it this year. I've had a broken tooth for several years
and it has bothered me once or twice. When I had my x-rays done this year the dentist determined I needed a root canal. It wasn't bothering me so other work got put ahead of the root canal. Sunday it started acting up and by Monday I was in agony. My dentist put me on an antibiotic and a p... Fri, 8 May 2009 09:52:21 EST It's Been A Long Time http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1752482 I finally did some strength training on Tuesday. It's the first time since early in December. My job is doing homecare as a licensed nursing assistant. I work with several elderly clients. One in particular, really started eating into my exercise time by calling every morning to say she couldn't get out of bed by herself. It's a 17 mile drive to her house, so by the time I got there and did everything I needed to do for her, I would have to go on to another client and exercising would be lost... Thu, 29 Jan 2009 21:51:37 EST Tis the Season http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1615028 I'm being pulled in several directions. I have been working crazy hours. Last Thursday we got hit with an ice storm while I was at work. I finally got home Friday afternoon, only to discover that we had no power and no heat. Luckily, my brother and sister-in-law had heat and lights so my son and I went there. Unfortunately it added about 17 miles to my commute. My son and I slept at opposite ends of the couch - how comfortable. On Sunday, I drove an hour and a half to get to clients in Hampto... Wed, 17 Dec 2008 21:45:07 EST I'm Back http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1551147 It seems like forever since I have made an entry. My computer was down for awhile thanks to my son. I finally got it fixed and then had such a crazy work schedule that taking time to log on was impossible. I've been doing a lot of overnights at work. I also do daytime hours and sometimes I'm gone for two full days and nights at a time and then only a couple of hours at home before I'm off again. finally, this week my overnights are gone, except for one. I'm working over 50 hours, but I'm home... Wed, 5 Nov 2008 19:24:55 EST I Need Support http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1457491 This week my work life was totally disrupted and thus my exercise program. I had to go into the office on Thursday for my yearly review. I've been there two years but this was my first review. The review itself was good, with no big surprises. Linda, the coordinator, than said that the company didn't want to lose me and would in fact do whatever it had to to keep me. The bombshell. The son of the woman I have been with for two years said I was not to go back to her house again. She is the one... Sat, 13 Sep 2008 23:08:18 EST Five and a half years of payments http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1389671 I picked up my new car today. thank goodness I have a sister-in-law with good credit. I never use credit - the last time wad 10 years ago when I bought my last car! Sh ended up having to be the first signer on all of the paperwork. The title is in my name. the salesman assured us that it was just to satisfy the lender and it will only affect my credit rating. I obviously need to do something to help my credit score.
Yes, Helen, in answer to your question, the new starter had been paid ... Fri, 8 Aug 2008 22:03:38 EST New Car http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1387861 I went to look at a motorcycle that my brother is trying to buy and I ended up making a deal on a new KIA Rio. My current KIA has 207,000 miles on it. I use my car a lot because I do home nursing care. I also take clients in my car and it was just getting to be a crap shoot as to whether I would break down or not. I really hadn't planned on buying today, but they only had one standard shift in either model I liked so I bit the bullet.
I guess this will be my reward for a long time for s... Thu, 7 Aug 2008 23:06:45 EST Tuesday http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1383413 I slept in this morning and skipped my elliptical work because my back and neck were bothering me. The ride in the tow truck last night really did a job on my already sore back. I figured it was better to skip a day than to really hurt myself and have to lose more time. My pain is much less tonight so tomorrow should be a go for exercising.
My car just needs a new starter. I guess for a car that has 210,000 miles on it, that's not bad. It's the original. I'm going to have to get serious ... Tue, 5 Aug 2008 22:42:12 EST welcome Back to Work http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1380990 What a great first day back. I took my client to Rochester to have her hearing aids checked and my car broke down. Luckily, I have road side assistance on my insurance. Unfortunately, a jump start did not work and the car had to be towed to my garage in Northwood. In the meantime I called my client's son and he came and got her. She wants to pay for the repairs.
I can't be without a car because I travel from client to client. I missed one client tonight because I rode back home with the... I did get some shopping and sewing done for my clothing line. I also worked on modifying a recipe for zucchini bread to make it more healthy. It's not quite perfected yet, but when it is, I'll share it.

Yesterday I managed to trip up my new front stair. I banged up both arms and shins. I also twisted my back. It's only four days, but I plan on making the most of it.
I will still be watching what I eat and doing my exercising. Today I did both cardio and strength training.
My landlady and I are going shopping tomorrow to get more sewing supplies. We have a gift shop that just opened a couple of months ago. I make children's clothes and she does a lot of craft work. i had another place where i sold my clothing line, but it went out of business. It is not the best time to... Wed, 30 Jul 2008 21:33:11 EST A good day! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1368235 I did my elliptical trainer today right after breakfast and burned off 479 calories and did 1825 rpm. That's my best yet. I get better every day.
I was invited out for dinner tonight and I stayed within my calories. 41
I start a four day vacation tomorrow at 8pm. It is the first time in two years that I have taken a vacation. I'm looking forward to just getting some things done around the house. Maybe a movie or two. Tue, 29 Jul 2008 22:47:19 EST I'm Glad monday is Over http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1365680 I started working with my clients toady at 9 a.m. and finished at 8 p.m. It was a long day. Mon, 28 Jul 2008 22:10:37 EST Weekend Exercise http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1363088 I had a really good weekend for exercising. I care for a 92 year old woman who weighs about 130. When we go for a walk she uses a wheelchair. On Saturday I pushed her around the block, which turned out to be a 1.6 mile loop. There is a
pretty steep hill at the end. I made it. today we went to the beach and I pushed her another 1.6 miles. there were hills throughout the trail.
Sun, 27 Jul 2008 22:07:10 EST It's a New Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1358437 Yeah, I'm back on track. No phone calls this morning so I was able to do my elliptical. Visited with my landlady for an hour while cooling down. Got back to my apartment and was going to skip strength training - 20 but I didn't! I feel much better. Taking a break between the two actually allowed me to do better with my strength training. I may be crazy, but I really like exercising. 198 Fri, 25 Jul 2008 10:18:54 EST Another crazy day! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1357619 Well today was almost as crazy as yesterday. I got called by my Durham client at 7:30 this morning. she has soaked the bed overnight and was unable to get out of it. Out the window went my exercising and out the door went I. I had to give her a sponge bath and get her to the diningroom for breakfast. Then I stripped the bed and brought all the laundry back to my house to wash. My brother and sister were coming for dinner tonight so I had to stop at the store on the way home. I got caught in a... I am an LNA and do home nursing for four seniors in Durham, NH. This is a half hour from my house. I was 20 minutes into my elliptical training when I got a call from the neighbor of one of my seniors. The person had been trying to get out of bed for three hours with no success. In the past two years she has broken a femur and her pelvis. I stopped exercising and hopped in the shower. I was on the road in twenty minutes. I was able to get her up and settled for the day afte... Wed, 23 Jul 2008 22:04:33 EST
