I'm actually pretty fascinated by it. We had a ton of snow the last two days and it took an immense amount of self-control to follow the program. It's really interesting how many different food associations I have. For instance, this was the first time we didn't make grilled cheese and tomato soup on a snow day. Yet, DH and I both thought about it. I'm also realizing how... Sun, 24 Jan 2016 23:03:53 EST Ashley's Whole30 journal (Day 5) Well, I'm back to the drawing board! After a few years of complete denial about the stress I was under, and the joy of bringing a baby into the world, I'm now back up 50 lbs with a total of 70 to lose. Boy oh boy I did not think I would be in this situation. I can either beat myself up, or change it and I choose the latter!

DH and I started the Whole30 on Monday and it's been interesting to say the least. A few nights ago I had a dream I licked a brownie and I woke up feeling g... Fri, 22 Jan 2016 23:07:24 EST I guess vegetarian cooking inspires me!

Today is day 1 of my week without meat. One of the reasons is that I'm just plain tired of chicken! I don't generally eat read meat so I'm basically cutting out chicken and fish. In the past my body has responded positively to meatless days so I'm going to try it for a week and see how I feel. This won't be a long-term change but it could be a good jumpstart for my metabolism.

One of the benefits t... Tue, 27 Nov 2012 19:25:46 EST Finally found my New Year's mantra! "To move into the lead means making an act requiring fireceness and confidence. But fear must play some relaxation is possible, and all discretion is thrown to the wind." Roger Bannister

This is an excerpt from the book Born to Run by Christopher McDougall. I highly recommend this even if you are not interested in running. There are many lessons that can be applied to every aspect of our lives. Wed, 11 Jan 2012 10:56:20 EST So I have this friend... ...who goes balls to the wall when she commits herself to ANYTHING. She throws every ounce of her amazing focus and determination into achieving her goals. When she decides to lose weight she exercises multiple times a day, tracks her food religiously and has amazing results immediately. She recently did the same thing with her business. She spent 8 weeks focusing on bringing in new business and blew everyone away with her immediate success. In fact, her fellow real estate agents can't g... Fri, 5 Aug 2011 10:34:15 EST Kitchen adventures - Almond Butter! For about the past year I've been OBSESSED with making food from scratch. Pies, cookies, muffins, fancy chicken and fish dishes, the list goes on and on. Recently I've started to focus on using as many natural ingredients as possible. This way I know what's in the things I'm eating. Luckily hubby loves to be in the kitchen too. In fact, he helps out AND cleans up.

This week we decided to make our own almond butter. We already buy huge bags of almonds to keep in the pantry a... Sat, 26 Mar 2011 14:37:32 EST Wait... Before I leave for the gym...

Instead of giving something up for Lent, I made a vow to myself that each day, I would be "better" than I was the previous one. To me this meant focusing on my diet, exercise, attitude and business. Yesterday I ate very well, but felt emotionally down, took a (probably much needed) rest day from my workouts, and did little for my business. Today I again have eaten well, released my negative thoughts (via previous blog) and done some business plannin... Thu, 24 Mar 2011 16:16:39 EST All I do recently is WORRY So I'm sitting here...with nothing to do at work...worrying myself sick. My brain won't stop and I can't think clearly. My heart is periodically racing. I'm literally sick to my stomach. Too many things are coming my way and I just can't deal. Today all of the "if"s have built up to the point I can't tolerate it anymore. Short version - my boss is taking me out of the office tomorrow to discuss "some changes" he's making. With the lack of recent business I know this can't be good. I w... Thu, 24 Mar 2011 15:02:58 EST B2W mission 6 For Mission 6 I chose to focus on whole body and switch up my weight lifting routine to wake my body up. I did a 100 reps workout Wednesday and Thursday. I also did a total of 105 minutes of cardio Monday - Thursday. It was a mix of walking/jogging and step class.

I met my water challenge every day - In fact I've been working to drink 12-16 glasses of water to flush out my bloat. Seems to be working. I've also committed to doing one of the following each night: face mask, p... Sat, 12 Mar 2011 16:21:41 EST The Crazy 100's So I've been lifting heavy for 8 weeks and decided to completely confuse my body and do a 100's workout this week. Yesterday was the first day I had enough time to try it out and it was completely insane. The basic premise (if you don't already know) is to pick a light but still semi-challenging weight and bust out 100 reps. You go until failure and take a rest equal to the amount of reps you have remaining to reach 100 (so if you did 40 before failure, you would rest for 60 seconds then ... Thu, 10 Mar 2011 15:44:17 EST Weekend workouts 3/4-3/6 Here are my workouts from this weekend -

Friday -
ST (Unfortunately don't have my log at work to record weights)
+ Deadlifts: 3 set, 6-8 reps
+ Leg Press: 3 sets, 6-8 reps
+ Seated Leg Raise Machine: 3 sets, 6-8 reps
+ Seated Hamstring Curl Machine: 3 sets, 6-8 reps
+ Smith Machine Lunges: 3 sets, 6-8 reps

Cardio - 30 mins elliptical

Saturday -
Cardio - glorious HIIT on treadmill (see blog from Saturday..still smiling insi... Mon, 7 Mar 2011 12:52:58 EST Today I felt like a runner This morning I went to the gym with the intention of getting in a little HIIT and heading home. So when I got on the treadmill I started with 1min/45sec jogging/walking intervals. I got to 10 minutes and decided to jog until I couldn't anymore, figuring I could probably jog for about 5 minutes straight. At 5 minutes I added a minute, and continued to do so until I had been jogging for 10 MINUTES STRAIGHT 104 ! I decided I wasn't sure how my joints would respond to that since I'... Sat, 5 Mar 2011 14:10:52 EST B2W Mission 4 My progress report 2/28/11

I've worked out 8 of the 10 days of the challenge so far. I had some weird hydration issue that set me back about a day and a half but nothing major.

While I'm going through the motions I think I've lost some of my commitment to my workouts. I need to find a way to reenergize and be excited about my sessions again. I also need to find a way to get more than 6 hours of sleep each night. If I can make that happen I'll have more energy and my... Mon, 21 Feb 2011 12:46:07 EST Get over your hangups and leave me alone...pretty please So my co-workers have been really making a lot of comments about my weight loss lately. Some good, some bad, and some are just plain weird. It started with the women last February when I got serious about my diet and lost a few pounds. They all immediately wanted to know what I was doing differently and told me I looked great. Then over the course of the year they started to act like I was the food police. Any time someone saw me putting my lunch together they commented about my healthy ... Wed, 16 Feb 2011 22:03:22 EST Day 12 and I'm TIRED I've been participating in a body transformation challenge for 12 days now. Until this morning I was energetic, looked forward to my workouts and fought through the cravings to allow my body to adjust to the new routine. This morning I had my first misstep. I've barely had any sleep for the last 3 nights and this morning I decided it was more important to sleep in then to get to the gym for my morning workout. The worst part is I didn't really sleep this morning and now I'm more groggy th... Tue, 18 Jan 2011 13:21:17 EST When did I become the food police? I'm really not sure when this started but it's been going on for quite awhile and it's really getting on my nerves. I've been packing my lunch for work for years and would get comments here and there about how good my healthy food looked or how great it was that I was eating so healthy. When I actually started losing weight one of my co-workers started a conversation with me about how I was doing it and I told and exercise. Once we had that conversation she was constantly hiding... Tue, 11 Jan 2011 16:47:12 EST Remix!!! It's the new year and it's time to shake things up! I coasted through the 2nd half of 2010 and now it's time to get some new energy and achieve some goals. Instead of remixing a song - I'm remixing my attitude.

I worked out really hard over the holidays to compensate for all of the (wonderful) junk I was eating and drinking. I'm taking that momentum and rolling it right into my new work out schedule cuz I need it! Instead of setting small, easily-achievable goals, I'm going f... Tue, 4 Jan 2011 15:58:08 EST SABOTAGE! After celebrating my hott picture yesterday - I almost completely sabotaged myself today! I didn't have anything to pack for lunch this morning so I decided I would go to the grocery store during lunch and put together a salad from the yummy fresh salad bar they have out every day. When I went down to my car I thought - "I have to go right past Wendy's to get to the grocery store, and I haven't had Wendy's in a long time. I could just get a small Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger because they're real... Tue, 7 Dec 2010 15:15:30 EST I'M HOT Please don't take this the wrong way because I don't usually brag...but I'm celebrating big time today! A co-worker took a FAB picture of me this weekend and I didn't realize just how great I looked until I saw it. Normally I'm disappointed with pics because I feel pretty hot until I see myself in one. But today is different. Today I have evidence that my hard work is paying off. I still haven't lost any weight in months but I'm toning, and adding muscle and burning fat and I'm motivated... Mon, 6 Dec 2010 19:50:08 EST TODAY IS THE DAY I CHANGE MY LIFE (FOR REAL!) I have been fighting the same 5 lbs for over 6 months! I have been relishing the thought of breaking into the 170's. Yet every time I do I set myself back. Granted I've had some injuries and recurring pain that have made it difficult to exercise, but I continue to make poor food choices. It's fine when I can exercise because my little indiscretions here and there are cancelled out by the massive amount of calories I burn, but I can't live and be healthy making the food choices I make dai... Thu, 18 Nov 2010 11:03:50 EST OVERWHELMED! Wow I just realized how much I have on my plate for the next 24 hours! I got up at 6am and busted out an hour at the gym, went home and got ready for work, I'm here till 4:30, cramming in another 30 mins at the gym then trying an oil painting class (1st time eek!). Once I leave class I have to stop at the grocery store, go home, finish trimming the paint in the living room, pack for our weekend away, prepare food to take on said weekend away, give the dog a bath, climb into bed around midni... Thu, 23 Sep 2010 11:24:16 EST Healthy Lifestyle Scale Hey everyone. I just stumbled across a new motivational tool and I wanted to share it. It's called the Healthy Lifestyle Scale. You plug in some numbers about the things you've eaten that day and your activity level and it shows you how healthy your day was. Seems to me it would be pretty motivational on those days when my self-esteem is low or I'm feeling bad about my progress. Here's the link :
y_lifestyle_scale.asp .

Enjoy! <em... Wed, 22 Sep 2010 13:56:30 EST 27 Lessons from 27 Years As I turn 27, I want to reflect on some of the lessons I've learned along the way. Some are humorous and others a little more serious. I hope you can take something from this to help you along your journey.

27 lessons from 27 years…

1. My first impression of people is generally spot-on. I’ve finally learned to trust my instincts and have better people in my life because of that.

2. Parents make mistakes too. Their intentions are always good but... Thu, 9 Sep 2010 20:47:07 EST My 1st blog I've been working up the courage to embark on writing my first blog and apparently I've (FINALLY) found it. For weeks I've been feeling a need to constructively share my feelings with others, so here goes...I joined in February after years of yo-yo dieting. My first major loss was early in 2007. I lost 25 pounds in preparation for a friends wedding. My confidence skyrocketed, I felt healthier and happier, yet somehow I managed to put 19 pounds of the weight back on. I hov...
