ASHAIXIM's SparkPeople Blog ASHAIXIM's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Prayers Please Well... my little niece isn't doing so great again. Her OS keeps going back down when they take her off oxygen even though her lungs "sound" pretty clean. They did an ultrasound of her heart today to rule that out and PTL!! it came back negative - all good there! But they still can't figure out why she can't suck in enough oxygen. :P Mon, 22 Apr 2013 21:40:25 EST update My little niece seems to be improving PTL!! She's off the cpap machine and just on a canula (SP?) the tube thingy now. :) I guess she's well enough to be bored as my DBIL had to grab movies to bring up lol! :) Fri, 19 Apr 2013 19:58:54 EST Neice Hi! Just a quickie... my neice is still in hospital but her blood work is looking okay and they started weening her off oxygen so hopefully she will progress soon :) Thu, 18 Apr 2013 19:23:32 EST Food rotating to avoid allergens Well, I met with a nurse practitioner at the allergy office and found out that not only can I not eat anything I'm allergic to, I also have to rotate the food I'm NOT allergic to. Apparently I am so sensitive and allergic to such prevalent foods in the American diet that she wants to make sure I do what I can to not end up getting any MORE allergies and restricting my diet even further... therefore, I can only eat something 2-3 times a week and need 2 days minimum betwixt them. I made a foo... Thu, 11 Apr 2013 08:52:14 EST Waiting... til I'm skinny. ???? I've been reading a number of "maintenance" articles lately... they seem to be "in season" so to speak right now... and since I found out about the allergies of course my weight has started coming down, and one thing I've found in common with the articles and comments that have been made to me is that, apparently, people believe that fat people have no life.

The articles talk about things you can do now that you couldn't do before, and people keep saying to me, Just think, when you... Mon, 25 Mar 2013 10:02:55 EST Amazing article on perception after weight loss Just read this.

g-180-pounds-really-does-body-8212-160
-163900419.html

I think it's pretty amazing! About a woman who lost 180lbs after surgery and her struggles with the world not being "perfect" because she's skinny now. Wed, 20 Mar 2013 15:23:16 EST Grrrr!!!! If I have one more person tell me I'm not allergic to "____" but rather I have an intolerance or it's the "gluten" or the "lactose" I'm going to throttle them. No, no it's not. And why the F do you think you know more about my medical issues than I do???? Who the heck made you all knowing??? ALLERGIES are reactions to proteins, not gluten, not lactose, not your know-it-all fill in the blank retraction from my reality.

Sorry, had to get that off my chest and there's no one to sa... Mon, 18 Mar 2013 21:49:16 EST Inflammation, Allergies and Weight Loss I did not know that allergies to food could cause inflammation. I also didn't know it could raise insulin levels. Apparently (and in retrospect a big DUH moment) when you're allergic to a food and you eat it it raises your cortisol levels (which makes sense because the "attack" on your body by the allergin is a threat and thus raises the stress level systemically) and of course cortisol causes insulin secretion. Insulin packs away fat and prohibits fat to be used for energy. When you get ... Wed, 13 Mar 2013 22:19:21 EST Allergies Well, I haven't been very active lately on SP because frankly I've felt like crap. I just got done having 2 of 3 allergy panels (the foods ones, still have plants, molds and animals to go) and it explained a LOT.

I'm allergic to wheat, corn, milk, yeast, potato, pork and coffee (all of, in all forms).

That means I'm allergic to... well, pretty much everything except fresh fruit, veg and beef, chicken, turkey, fish, shellfish and lamb. (That I eat.)

Yeah. <... Mon, 11 Mar 2013 12:21:30 EST Bi-Focals Does anything REALLY point home to you that you are aging as much as having to get bi-focals? :P I finally broke down today and had my yearly exam and ordered them. I splurged and got the progressive for an extra $100 cause I can't see not having them when I'm on a computer all day. I think the area designated ones would be unduly combersome. Hopefully I will be able to wear them for a good long time. Wed, 9 Jan 2013 11:04:20 EST Getting off the floor I read something a week or two ago, it might have been posted in the A&I team? I can't remember, but it said that your ability to get onto and back up off of the floor, WITHOUT assistance, was a way of determining how healthy you were and if you were likely to die in the next x # of years. Well, of course I had to try. I am happy to say I can get onto and off of the floor with NO problem all by myself WITHOUT holding or pushing against anything :D Thank you, Yoga! Namaste!

<li... Sun, 6 Jan 2013 00:57:50 EST Baby Steps! I can't believe the AWESOME responses I got on my 2012/2013 blog. I love you ALL SO MUCH!! I took some very good advice from all of you and also from Sylvia to talk to my "peeps" as I lovingly call my angels :) I am still way behind LOL but I got two bags of garbage gathered last night and today I got 2 filing cabinets cleared out, one of which entirely belonged to another department! and one that has old files I need to consolidate into my existing ones (I can do that over time) and I shr... Thu, 3 Jan 2013 21:30:52 EST A&I Wk1 2012 review and moving forward in 2013. 2012 was a very difficult year. Between coming out of a year+ long depression, having a lot of pain (which I now know to have been a pinched neck nerve), having surgery, having my sister diagnosed and treated for breast cancer, and the stress and ramifications from everything piling up on me I am in a state of nerves, exhaustion and overwhelming chaos.

Over the next 5 months, before I turn 47, there are some things I really want to accomplish. I'm giving myself a 5 month timeline... Wed, 2 Jan 2013 10:36:24 EST A&I WK2 (Daisies) – My Favorite Hobby 375

My favorite hobby is scrapbooking. I make one every year for my sister. I enjoy stamping and making cards as well, but I never know what to do with them LOL!! I end up sending a lot for Ronald McDonal House Charities and Operation Write Home.

I enjoy scrapbooking because 1) I get together with friends to do it frequently, 2) it's nice going through all the photos, 3) I get to use my odds and ends and goodies, 4) it is fairly quick and easy once you get ... How can journaling help you in preparing to stay on your healthy journey for the holidays from Thanksgiving until Jan.1?

When I write things down, my goals and aspirations, fears and challenges that hold me back, I identify what it is I want and what is stopping me from getting it. Mon, 5 Nov 2012 14:00:08 EST The Old Me I spoke with my brother on the phone a couple days ago. We live on opposite sides of the US so don't see each other in person much, which in theory is sad because I love him like crazy and vice versa, but in reality is great because although we love each other and have similar interests in some things we can't be in the same house for more than a day LOL!! I'm just pulling out of it really and I think a LOT of it was caused by my neck stenosis, which I had surgery for on 6/6 and am currently in PT recouperating from. My biggest issue is that I've had a really hard time sticking to anything and doing much at all because of the pain, fatigue and depression. So, my biggest issues right now are being addressed by doing the Spark People Fuel For Improvement program. Another team's leader and I sta... The realities of our looks and theirs don't even matter. When we look at others, we see how perfect they are. When we look at ourselves, we see how imperfect we are. I liked my response so I'm blogging it :)

I just celebrated my 3rd anniversary on Spark and guess what? I'm 1 1/2 lbs lighter than when I started. LOL! Fri, 31 Aug 2012 19:46:28 EST Update on life My sister got an MRI a couple weeks ago because her chest hurt. She was thinking that she might be getting pneumonia from the chemo but the oncologist said to go that day to get an MRI so they could see if she was having a valve relapse or some such which I guess happens with chemo sometimes. Anyway, they couldn't detect any of her tumors!! So she stopped chemo 2 treatments less than they had intended and has a surgery consult. She's getting a PET and then they will be doing surgery in th...
