Progress pics http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5491968 Well, here it is, all laid out...

At my heaviest, I weighed 235 the day before I was induced for gestational hypertension with my first born in August 2009.

I lost most of the weight, but only got down to 172lbs when I got pregnant with my second. This pic is of me a couple months before I gave birth to my second son in February 2012. I'm not sure how much I weighed in this pic, but I was 222 on ... Sat, 21 Sep 2013 13:15:52 EST Why I'm sticking to a low carb diet http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5263477 Saturday marked the completion of my first official week of “competition training.” There are so many articles that I’ve read that indicated how difficult training can be – the worst part being changes to diet. Thankfully, I’ve been following a clean, low-carb diet since August, so I didn’t go into shock with the changes I am required to make. I’ve been living quite happily being low-carb. Now, I’m not saying that figure competitors live and train on a low carb diet – many don’t – but it’... Mon, 25 Feb 2013 13:53:52 EST Where I've been...and where I'm headed http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5255173 So I thought I'd start blogging about my new fitness journey. Just a few weeks ago I decided to take the plunge and train for my first figure competition!!! Don't tell anyone yet because I still haven't told my husband. But I did tell my trainer and he's onboard. I'm still a little apprehensive at telling my husband just yet because I don't know how he'll take it. I hope that he understands because since August I've cleaned up my diet and have been working my butt off in the gym. He's ... Mon, 18 Feb 2013 17:40:56 EST Liver for weight loss??? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5158441 I meant the organ in YOUR body, not the one you're trying to choke down at dinner.

I’ve been with my personal trainer, Justin, for over 3 months now. I wasn’t looking for a trainer when I met him, but the way he talked about nutrition and fitness made me want him on my team. After 2 babies, I thought I had the Weight Loss game figured out. I’ve been successful at Weight Watchers and just counting calories on my own. But somehow the weight crept back up.

One thing tha... Thu, 6 Dec 2012 16:56:21 EST Another milestone met!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5140676 After I gave birth to my second son in Feburary at a whopping 222lbs, I started sweating bullets. I didn't know how in the world I was going to get down to 156lbs by November...when I had to take my first post-partum Physical Readiness Test (PRT). For anyone that has no clue about the Navy, the PRT is a semi-annual physical fitness test. For someone of my height, I have to be at most 156 lbs or no greater than 33% body fat. If I didn't make weight, I wouldn't be allowed to take the physic... Mon, 19 Nov 2012 17:49:04 EST 2-month update http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5106207 I can't believe it's been 2 months since I started working out with Justin, my personal trainer at Rawman Fitness! Not only has it been 2 months of training but 2 months of low-carb dieting. Well...sort of. Even though I cheated a little here and there, I still managed to lose 15 lbs and ~4% body fat! I guess if I stuck to my diet 100% I'd be close to 20lbs lost in 2 months. I'm excited though and more than happy with my progress.

Not the best pic, but here I am... <img src="h... Sat, 20 Oct 2012 16:35:18 EST On to the next plan... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5047335 In August, I started Jamie Eason's 12-week LiveFit Trainer. I think it's a fantastic program and really enjoy it. I haven't focused on weight training in many many years. I've always been fighting the fat and put weight training on the back burner. I know that muscle burns more calories than fat, so building muscle would only benefit me. But I put my priorities on cardio.

So far I've been successful in my post-baby #2 weight loss journey and turned to Jamie to help me get th... Thu, 6 Sep 2012 16:08:49 EST WEEK 2 IN REVIEW - Jamie Eason's LIVEFIT 12-Week Trainer Challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5012133 WOW! 2 weeks down and I feel GREAT (I can say that now that it’s Sunday)! As expected, this past week was much better than last, but it wasn’t all smooth sailing. There were some bumps along the road.

I ended Week 1 with 2 consecutive days of Bikram Yoga (Saturday and Sunday). It was hard, my muscles were still very sore, but I got through it. Then on Monday, I started my weight lifting routine for Week 2. All the soreness was gone so I was able to get through the routine fai... Sun, 12 Aug 2012 13:30:33 EST WEEK 1 IN REVIEW - Jamie Eason's LIVEFIT 12-Week Trainer Challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5002031 I don’t know how I found out about this, possibly on a friend’s Facebook page, but I learned about Jamie Eason’s 12-week trainer on Bodybuilding.com this past week. The program looked completely doable and she’s pretty impressive herself, so I decided to do it. I’m not a stranger to the weight room, it’s just been a while.

Looking at Jamie reminds me of when I was in great shape my senior year of high school. My gym teacher (the Varsity football coach) used to bug me randomly ... Sun, 5 Aug 2012 14:03:02 EST Gotta love pictures! :-} http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4971276 Even though I've lost 16lbs since I started my recent weight loss journey, I still have a long way to go. I'm still 14lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight with my newest baby and 24lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight from my oldest baby. Then I've got more to go after all that!

I'm doing pretty good...with the exception of our recent vacation to PA and VA. I just have no willpower and always have a difficult time sticking to any diet when I'm away from home. I really rely ... Sun, 15 Jul 2012 13:12:02 EST It's official...Color ME Rad! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4945117 Just wanted to mention that I signed up for the Color Me Rad 5K in San Diego on August 11th! I'm pretty excited because it looks like a lot of fun. Who doesn't want to be doused in colored corn starch and finish tie-dyed???

After I was diagnosed with tendonitis, I had to scale back my training and forgo the races that I had planned for May & June. I think if I take it easy with my training runs (I signed up for the Sparkpeople 5k Rookie training plan), I should be ready for Aug... Wed, 27 Jun 2012 17:57:25 EST Aren't people supposed to look forward to vacation??? I'm DREADING it! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4931915 In just about 2 weeks, my family is packing up and flying back east to my parents house. I love my family and I love being around them. They'll finally get to meet our newest bundle of joy and get to see how much my first bundle of joy has grown.

The reason we're heading back is because my oldest sister is retiring from the navy after 20+ years and I'll be participating in the ceremony. I'm silenly dreading it because I'll be the final flag bearer in the Old Glory ceremony. If... Mon, 18 Jun 2012 16:35:35 EST The standards I live by… http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4928116 If you’ve read my bio, you’ll see that I’m an officer in the US Navy. To remain in the navy, you must remain within body fat standards and pass the semi-annual physical readiness test – combined, it’s called the physical fitness assessment (PFA). I’ve mentioned the PFA several times on my page, so hopefully now you’re not confused.

According to official navy guidance, I am a postpartum servicewoman and have 6 months after convalescent (maternity) leave to get back into standards.... Fri, 15 Jun 2012 17:47:15 EST Down a uniform pant size! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4926198 OK...so they new uniform pants may still be a little tight. Or as the Officer Candidate School tailors would say, "too sexy." But the ones I was wearing were just too big and baggy, and I can't stand baggy uniforms, that I had to put the smaller ones on. I'm wearing my Navy Working Uniform (the blue camis) at the moment because I'm still too fat for my khakis. But I'm officially out of my "fat" uniform and in my "a bit overweight" uniform. The last time I had this on was in Feb 2011, bef... Thu, 14 Jun 2012 11:20:58 EST The sweet spot! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4921722 I think I found a sweet spot regarding caloric intake = 2000 calories

It took me several weeks (maybe months) to figure this one out. But I finally came to this conclusion this week. When I first started "dieting" I was eating ~2400 calories. This was based on the USDA recommendation for a person my size (200lbs) and breastfeeding exclusively. It worked for the first few weeks. I went through a few periods of weight-loss stall. I kept dropping my calories by 100 at a time. W... Mon, 11 Jun 2012 13:35:19 EST If you need motivation...take a picture! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4916471 While I was pregnant, I would take a picture of me every week to track the progress of my growing belly. It was amazing to see the changes! So I figured that I could continue with a similar process for tracking the changes in my body during my weight loss journey.

Last week, I finally hit my goal of the first 10lbs of weight lost. YAY! I feel lighter and my clothes are getting looser. I was actually feeling pretty good about myself. So I broke out my camera and took a pic... Thu, 7 Jun 2012 15:12:08 EST Setting goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4902830 I think we all have heard the importance of setting goals, and I'm a big believer. Even through I've set so many in my lifetime, I swear to myself that 2012 is the year that I will set my goals and stick to them! Positive thinking leads to positive outcomes. Achieving goals is a great way to reenergize my diet/exercise plan and to verify that my plan works. I'm also putting myself out there by blogging my weight loss journey so that I'm not only accountable to myself, but to the world (or ... Tue, 29 May 2012 13:41:39 EST A calorie is a calorie??? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4896267 I've always thought that a calorie is a calorie, not matter the source. But in the last week or so, I realized that may not be true. So far it's only been just over 7 weeks since I started my post-partum diet. I've had to adjust my caloric intake a few times becuase what I was doing just wasn't working. According to the USDA, I should be eating 2400 calories in order to LOSE weight while exclusively breastfeeding. That seemed to work for the first couple weeks or so. I also exercise 4-5...
