ARDUINNA's SparkPeople Blog ARDUINNA's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Swedish success? I've been trying the Low Carb High Fat diet since January and have been having a good amount of success with it. The weight loss has been consistent, but not too rapid. Too be honest, I'd rather have slower weight loss than I had with the Atkins diet. Atkins was rapid weight loss, followed by rapid weight gain when I couldn't take it any more and snapped. This diet is much more balanced. I actually haven't been hungry very often (& then it was due to poor planning rather than the diet). One o... Sun, 16 Feb 2014 11:54:49 EST LCHF Trying a new eating plan as (strongly) recommended by my friend. It's an eating plan that is very popular in Scandinavia & is supposed to be great for diabetics (which I'm trying hard not to become) & those with PCOS (which I have). the plan is called Low Carb High Fat. The emphasis is on cutting carbs, especially highly processed carbs, & concentrating on eating protein & low carb vegetables with low processed fats with every meal. The idea is to cut as many highly processed foods out of you... Tue, 21 Jan 2014 14:11:58 EST Just keep Sparking Sparking.... Been mostly sticking to plan. I know that once I get into the dieting groove (yes yes I know, I should be working on a lifestyle change but with as much weight as I need to lose, I'm calling it a diet!) I will have a much easier time. The last year I've gotten in to the habit of giving up at first stumble...need to work out of this. I'm also trying to get used to the fact that it doesn't hurt me to feel hungry once in a while. That's a good thing (not talking starving here, folks, I have to k... Tue, 18 Sep 2012 12:23:49 EST Here we go again I've had a very rough 14 months or so after I had a second trimester miscarriage. I very much would like to have a second child but can't seem to manage to stay pregnant, none of my pregnancies have carried to term (my only living child was born 16 weeks early). After the last miscarriage, I self medicated with food & excuses. I gained almost all of the weight I'd worked very hard to take off the previous year. It's been very difficult to get back into a dieting routine.

I don't k... Sun, 9 Sep 2012 10:57:20 EST Flirting with Crock Pots I have long been an admirer of Crock Pots AKA Slow Cookers. I knew their good points & sweet ways, but was playing hard to get. I would shoot coy glances at slow cooker recipes, put them in my folders then callously ignore them. In the end we were reduced to passing notes "I love you, but my life's so complicated." "It's not you, it's me." "Some day soon, I promise we'll get together, but the time is not yet right."

My mother-in-law gave us a wonderful 5quart Crock Pot. I ... Thu, 8 Mar 2012 21:55:59 EST Quick exercise blog I will admit that I am the queen of procrastination (not the president as I'd never get around to running for office). I am also excessively good at coming up with excuses for why I'm not doing things that I should be. All of this leads to my current exercise status; I had been going on the occasional walk but not much else. When I was doing very well on my exercise journey i was going to a water fitness class a couple of times a week. I enjoyed it & it was a lot of good exercise (got in some... Mon, 20 Feb 2012 15:04:25 EST Must read Bossypants I don't know too much about Tina Fey. I know she's on SNL but as I have no satellite or cable & my TV is devoted to children's shows for the most part, this doesn't mean much. I had heard of her book Bossypants but hadn't read it or even planned too. Then today I was looking for photos of Christina Hendricks (long story) & I found some quotes from this book. Now I have to read it!~

Enjoy these quotes & check out the book!

“But I think the first real change in women’s bod... Thu, 19 Jan 2012 20:46:01 EST Diet article on I was pissing away time on the computer this morning following link after link when I came across this article. It's about 8 people who sabotage your efforts to get healthy. Check out the whole article using the link but here's the summary:

#8. People Who Think They Are Doctors
If you can't tune these people out, it can really take the wind out of your sails when you're starting out on a simple diet and exercise regimen and don't see much progress at first (which is normal), a... Wed, 16 Nov 2011 13:36:28 EST Curvy Magazine As I was pissing away time time at the computer I found Curvy magazine. I'm enjoying many of their articles, though as always I'm confused by some of the people who come on to comment. If plus size people offend you, why go on the site in the first place? Are you such an insecure person that you need to go on to sites to try and belittle people??

They did an interview with a make-up artist who does YouTube instructional' videos & I felt that what she had to say about her weight los... Wed, 7 Sep 2011 20:11:37 EST Free Exercise Free exercise for those who have nice weather or just want to get out of the house: find different neighborhoods, parks, wildlife areas, beaches, or even malls (if people watching/AC are your things) & WALK. Studies have show it can be just as good as running/jogging as a form of exercise (less calories burned in short term, but much better for joints or those starting to get in shape again). It is free! If you have stress, this is a great reliever & getting out & about can help with depressi... Mon, 1 Aug 2011 20:33:33 EST Starting over The past year I took myself from 218lbs to 169 to 189. I'm still ahead of the game in the loss department weight wise, but want to stop the upward climb. I started SparkPeople in the fall of 2010 & was really good until the holidays. After the holidays, I struggled a great deal. For some reason I was depressed after the holidays & got off track (actually lost weight over holidays, it was Jan that was bad). I finally got my act together though I started to feel unwell in March.
Weight lo... Sun, 19 Jun 2011 23:32:27 EST changes I discovered what had been making me so tired. I was pregnant! I've had a very hard time getting pregnant & not very much luck with the pregnancies I've had. The weight loss helped me get pregnant without drugs. I was so happy!! Nervous but happy. I changed my weight loss goals but was still going to keep an eye on weight gain as I didn't want to lose a year's work (as I'm still at least 60-65lbs overweight I wasn't supposed to gain more than 15lbs during pregnancy). Some morning sickness (a ... Thu, 16 Jun 2011 12:41:54 EST Soooo tired I'm doing better on the diet front, but having such probs sleeping. To much stress (especially finacial) keeps me awake. Sick lil one (hello spring croup), I wake when he coughs. Seem so tired all of the time. I only feel like I have the energy to walk. Next week I'm forcing myself to swim class. I try not to drink too much caffeine but by mid afternoon, I'm draggin....Just want to sleep zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Thu, 24 Mar 2011 16:53:57 EST Love life like a toddler! I can come to the realization that I need to eat more like my 3yr old. I always make sure he has fruits, veggies, & whole grains. He drinks mostly water (he doesn't care much for sweet drinks). He rarely sits in fronts of the TV, instead he dances to it. Going outside no matter the weather for a walk is one of his favorite things. When we go grocery shopping, he loves the produce section (OK, he also loves opening & closing freezer doors....). He eats when hungry & stops when he's full. Wishy... Wed, 9 Mar 2011 10:52:44 EST Hup & away! So here we go again. Did well enough over the holidays, then tossed it all to slack off for most of Jan & Feb. This resulted in a gain of everything I had lost in the past couple of months and put me at my beginning of Dec weight.

Getting back into the swing of things is tough. I seem to have lost my feel for good eating habits. The cold weather & expanded stomach seem to lead to more hunger than I remember. I REFUSE to gain back everything I've lost though!! I did this before & I ... Mon, 28 Feb 2011 11:21:33 EST An Ode to Tea When off in diet land I be,
my favorite drink to drink is tea.
Herbal tea is very nice,
Especially when served on ice.
To clear my head & calm my mind,
Hot green tea is what I find.
While sitting in the yard with my friend,
towards the perfect drink my mind does bend:
Irish Breakfast with sugar & cream
A smile across my face doth beam. Mon, 15 Nov 2010 11:09:43 EST Musical Genius of Ragnarok (as told to the Bard Loki) My Least Favorite Things or Not Until the Fat Lady Sings

(Sung to the tune of My Favorite Things)

Crying and envying,
Huffing and Puffing.
Saying "I'm 12 stone"
and knowing I'm bluffing.
Trying on bras
to have them leave rings.
These aren't a few of my favorite things.

chorus
On a diet,
when I'm craving,
when I'm feeling sad,
I simply remember these horrible things,
and then I don't feel so bad! <BR... Tue, 9 Nov 2010 10:53:17 EST The Checkstand Diet My dieting partner & I have often discussed the allure of the diet plans included in the grocery store checkstand magazines. These publications always include: a new diet plan which will help you quickly lose enough weight to make a new person or at least 10-20 lbs by the next holiday, quizzes to help you figure out all of the new medical conditions you could be suffering from but not know about, & pages of recipes including decadent desserts (which are usually pictured on the cover right abo...
