I'm sure there will be lots of snorkelling, relaxing, and going to the beach but I'm also going to be doing some volunteering. Since cars aren't allowed on the island much of the transport is done by horse and carts. So I'll also be doing dentals and any vet care that's needed. There's also a cat clinic which I'll volunteer at. I am going to primarily do that during the first week on Gili Trawang... Wed, 28 Jan 2015 09:00:39 EST Photos from my Sunday morning hike http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5861970 For the last four weeks I've been hiking with my dog Lucky. We've been doing around 2 hours each week. Unfortunately my other dog Mack is getting too arthritic so he doesn't get to come, but Lucky loves it.

Today we hiked up a large hill and along the top of a range, it's not a well known trail but was easy to follow. Lucky gets alarmingly close to the edge of the cliff but besides that it's a lot of fun. I haven't been bringing my camera the past few weeks but I decided to snap a... Sun, 25 Jan 2015 02:58:02 EST Sticking to it http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5850846 After being on Sparkpeople since 2011 I've noticed lots of my long term spark friends are hitting the restart button as often as I am. Sometimes I find it a little depressing that all of us are still struggling with a healthy lifestyle every day. But most of the time I'm really proud that all of us have stuck around and keep trying. Sometimes we are trying harder than others but we're all here still trying.

Life has gotten in the way for me in the last year and a half but I'm stil... Sat, 10 Jan 2015 07:52:55 EST Happy New Year! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5843444 I started 2015 spending an entire day doing absolutely nothing. That was the plan after going out on NYE so I'm not concerned about such a lazy start to the year! I'm back on track with eating today and will be working out after work this afternoon.

My first goal this year is to get back below 80kg. That's my primary goal at the moment so won't be making any others until that happens.

Plans to achieve that goal:
- 30 min circuit workouts 3 days a week
- running... Thu, 1 Jan 2015 23:50:03 EST On a plateau http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5828910 I have been stuck at the same weight (83kg-83.5kg) for 2 and 1/2 weeks now. I ate at the low end of my range last week and saw no progress and this week I've been at the higher end of my range and still no progress. I have been working out 1-2 times a day (with 1-2 rest days a week) and still no progress on the scales. I do think I'm feeling more muscle and have been seeing a little more space in my clothes. That doesn't make the scale any less frustrating.

After regaining 13kg fr... Sun, 7 Dec 2014 01:53:22 EST Sick http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5803026 Well I've been a little off track since the weekend. I went out Saturday night but did plan for that an didn't eat much during the day. I'm sure it didn't compensate for all the alcohol calories but I did a lot of dancing and walked my friend home so actually got in 10,000 steps between midnight and 2am.

I also got in a massive fight with my husband after he entirely misinterpreted a situation. We're better now but things haven't been good for awhile. We're doing remote counsellin... Wed, 22 Oct 2014 21:05:46 EST Calorie Cycling http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5798548 I'm ecstatic! 2.5kg lost already this month. That's 5.5lbs. And that also means 4.5kg lost since mid-Sept. I'm not quite sure what clicked but it has. I have spent the last two weeks eating between 1000-1300calories. This is probably going to be too low to maintain but I haven't actually been hungry most days.

Today, however, was different. I ran 9 miles this morning, the furthest I've done yet. And it was all on challenging trails with hills. I have been absolutely starving all d... Sun, 12 Oct 2014 10:13:38 EST On track :-) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5795703 Pretty excited to see the scale go from 85.5 to 83.3 in just a couple of weeks! I am probably eating slightly less than I should but I'm still hoping to get to my dietbet weight by Monday (82.8) so I'll just keep at 1200-1400 a day until then. I have upped my exercise so I'm finding that I'm a bit more hungry during my runs than I'd like. It probably is slowing me down a little. I will say that I'm not actually that hungry most of the time. I assume this is due to the fact I'm eating mainly f... Fri, 10 Oct 2014 08:38:51 EST Hit and Miss http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5792036 For September my goals were:
- track every day in September
- stay in range at least 6/7 days a week
- run 3 days a week
- climb nameless once a week
- strength train 3 times a week
- fitness class 1-2 times a week
- ride my horse 2-4 times a week

I did okay with eating and tracking, probably give myself a 60% for tracking and a 75% for staying in range. I have been keeping up with my running and some strength training. Fitness class ... Sat, 4 Oct 2014 01:50:18 EST Dietbet http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5779526 I decided I need some added motivation so I've joined dietbet. The bet is to lose 4% in 4 weeks. I am hoping this will kickstart things downwards. For me this means losing 3.4kg. So hopefully I'll start being a bit more serious about this or forfeit my $30.

As for my goals for the month:
-track every day - 10/14 days
- stay in range - 10/14 days
And for the week:
- run 3 days a week - 3/3
- climb nameless - 1/1
- strength train - 1/3
- ... Sun, 14 Sep 2014 08:03:26 EST Progress report http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5775653 This weekend was a bit of a challenge for my goals. I drove 3 hours on dirt roads to a rodeo and worked as the vet. Thankfully I didn't have to actually need to do anything. Unfortunately there were not many good food choices. Also there was no phone service for my personal phone so I didn't track on Saturday or Sunday. So for my goals this week:
-track every day - 6/8 days
- stay in range - 5/7 days
- run 3 days a week - 3/3
- climb nameless - 0/1
- strength train -... Mon, 8 Sep 2014 07:49:02 EST So far so good! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5772404 I weighed in on the first at 86.4kg. I've already dropped 500g. I'm sure some of that is water weight but I've managed to stay on track. I've tracked every day and have stayed in my range including the low end today. I am quite hungry but hopefully that will improve.

So far I've managed:
1st - 2mile run + ride + short weight session
2nd - fitness class
3rd - 4.4 mile run

Plans for the rest of the week are:
4th - ride in AM, fitness class in PM
... Wed, 3 Sep 2014 07:06:02 EST September Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5769796 I can't say I'm really seeing any results lately. My weight is bouncing around in the same range so I think I need to be more consistent and focused. So for September I'm going to set a few goals:

- track every day in September
- stay in range at least 6/7 days a week
- run 3 days a week
- climb nameless once a week
- strength train 3 times a week
- fitness class 1-2 times a week
- ride my horse 2-4 times a week

And to stay accountable I'm g... If you called a doctor/dentist/vet office for your records to be forwarded and it didn't get done the first time and you needed to call and remind them once would you consider that unprofessional? I mean unprofessional enough to make a complaint with a governing body?

I won't rant about work as I try not to do that on the internet but I am curious to see a response.

And while wine and pizza won'... Thu, 7 Aug 2014 09:03:06 EST Puppy Class! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5754236 I'm currently teaching puppy class at work :-) Here's a couple of my pupils:

Managed another 3 mile run before puppy class. 3 min running w/30 second walking intervals. Wed, 6 Aug 2014 09:35:32 EST Looking back http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5752732 I did measurements the other day and was curious to see how they compared when I was a similar weight in July of 2011. It was really interesting. I currently weigh between 86-87kg and in 2011 I weighed 84.3kg but my measurements now are the same or less, my arms are the same and my thighs and hips are smaller. The only measurement that is now higher is my waist. I guess that's pretty good proof that I've changed my body composition.

I also had a look at what I was eating and how I... Mon, 4 Aug 2014 08:24:13 EST Injuries http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5750188 Running is going well. I'm up to 1 min running/30 seconds walking for 15 intervals. My leg hasn't been hurting, but it doesn't feel quite right either. I'm finding it really hard to determine between paranoia that I'm doing too much and legitimately doing too much. Nothing hurts like it used to but it just twinges a bit in that hamstring and now I'm sitting on the couch that butt cheek feels a little more uncomfortable. A lot of it is probably because I'm also doing hamstring and gluteal exer... Thu, 31 Jul 2014 08:07:10 EST Sore back http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5745198 I did fitness class on Tuesday night and somehow tweaked my back. Just the right side. I kept going as it wasn't that bad and was hoping it would loosen up. It didn't. It did a bit yesterday but is still a bit sore. I'm still not sure if it was the deadlifts I did Monday night or the fact I was carrying around a fat 33kg (72lb) Labrador at work on Tuesday. Either way I managed a run yesterday but haven't been doing any weights since. I also opted not to ride my horse, yesterday because I hurt... Wed, 23 Jul 2014 19:42:03 EST Finally making progress http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5744043 After over a year with a high hamstring injury that just didn't want to get better I feel like I'm finally making some progress to get back running distances. I am currently doing 1 minute running/30 sec walking for 15 reps with no pain. I've been able to do shorter distances in fitness classes for ages but the hamstring exercises and forcing myself to be patient in increasing my intervals is finally working. I'm trying not to get ahead of myself but am hoping to do a 15k trail race when we'r... Tue, 22 Jul 2014 08:48:09 EST No Time http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5721995 I hate to make excuses but I am really struggling to create a schedule that gives me time to make healthy food and get as much exercise as I'd like. Maybe I can get some suggestions from others. I'm currently working 40-50 hour weeks and while that may improve some it isn't that promising. My usual day goes a little like this:
5-6am - alarm goes off at 5 and I get up somewhere closer to 6am since I can't say I'm that keen to actually get up
Shower and off to ride horse by 645ish <BR... I did two days of about 20-25min run/walking. 1min run/1min walk. I went with a new friend. She probably went a little faster than I'd have liked but it felt fine the first day and only a little off the second day. That was Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Then I went to yoga Thursday night. More importantly I would like clothes to be fitting looser and so far they don't seem to be. I only do monthly measurements so I'm not sure.

So what I have been doing is staying in my calorie range of 1300-1650. I was slightly over one day of the weekend and I was under yesterday. Wed, 12 Feb 2014 07:12:52 EST Biggest Loser http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5616535 In Australia we're just starting a new season of the Biggest Loser where they are trying to transform Australia's fattest town. I did watch a few episodes of the newest season and I found a couple thing reminded me why I don't normally watch it.

I get so absolutely sick of hearing contestants say they can't lose the weight on their own or they can't complete a task. I ate a bit higher on the weekend and didn't track on Saturday or Sunday but aside from many drinks on Sunday I don't think Saturday was a real blow-out. This town will drive me crazy if I don't get a social life so I'm happy to eat and drink some extra if it means going to a BBQ.

I feel like I'm starting to get a little more excited about exercise. Unfortunately that is only after a pretty significant gain in the last few months. They've been a very stressful few months so while I'm annoyed at myself for losing this much ground I can understand how it happened. Between injury and moving and job changes etc it has been a lot to deal with. I don't know if I'll ever be the sort of person who doesn't stress eat, I hope so, but I am not that mad at myself fo... I've found that I still lean on food when I stressed. I already knew this though so wasn't particularly surprised to gain some weight. We didn't just move across the country, I also spent about 8 weeks traveling around to various locations for work. I need time and energy and the facilities to plan in order to eat well. I know this. Just very busy with my move so only just barely here. The drive from Yeppoon to Perth went well. It was long, very long. We drove for 12 and 1/2 hours one day since we gained 90 minutes of daylight with the time change. This was all done after a tough mudder which I did with a nasty head cold and cough.

As for Tough Mudder I didn't really think it was that tough. It may have been because we were waiting for team mates at each obstacle. The obstacles were marginally... Sat, 31 Aug 2013 07:40:16 EST Moving is stressful http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5441353 I've been struggling a bit for awhile, mainly with food, but it wasn't too big a deal as I kept exercising. Now in two weeks I'll be moving. At the start of a very long drive to Perth we're driving to the Sunshine Coast to do a tough mudder. I wish I could say I felt more prepared.

My running has been minimal lately. Partially there's some laziness involved but it is mainly because it hurts. My husband doesn't have work lined up but I think he'll have an easier time finding work once he's over there. I hope anyway!

Financially we're probably about 50% prepared for a move. My hips, particularly my ITB, are still sore and my feet/shins are still sore. I can walk without looking crippled though. I skipped kickboxing on Monday night and yoga yesterday, good thing I skipped yoga as I had an afterhours call for a dog with a twisted stomach who had to be put down. I may have missed the call or taken longer to get it if I'd went to class. Anyway my trainer also cancelled class this morning so I've gotten some extra r... It consists of teams of 4 walking 100km. You have to leave each checkpoint as a team and you have to start with 4 people. Our team consisted of me and 3 50 year old guys. I trained with two of them, Gary and Vince, and the third guy, Digby, we found online as he needed a team to join. He told Gary who organised the team that he would be more than capable of doing 21-22 hours even though his fastest time previously was 24 hours.

... Especially since I didn't have a set training plan for this 100k walk. Plus I'm also in a bit of recovery mode after 2 half marathons. Probably not the best of plan leaving 10 days between the second half marathon and walking 100k. Apparently the most likely cause is a slight rotation of my pelvis on that side causing my hamstring muscle to do more work than my gluts. That is the simple explanation of it anyway, or as I understood it! He did some work today on it which probably made it hurt a bit more but that's okay. I also learned my hip flexors are super tight so must work on that. I... Tue, 7 May 2013 08:02:18 EST Aquajogging http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5344991 Things learned today:
One of the main reasons I like running is to get a different look at my surroundings and notice things you don't see in a car. Running for an hour in a pool means you don't change your surroundings. This makes it pretty boring.

You can get a tan through the water. I was expecting my head and shoulders to get some colour but even my thighs are a bit more tan. Still haven't quite gotten rid of the running short tan lines but it's a start. I guess I never t... Sat, 4 May 2013 04:07:32 EST Hamstring injury http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5342881 Did you want to know a really unpleasant way to spend an evening? Sit with your left butt cheek on an ice pack. The saddest thing is that it doesn't really feel like it is working that well. I'm doing a bit of self diagnosis but am fairly sure I've hurt the tendon that joins 3 of my hamstring muscles onto my pelvis. I'm off to the physio next Tuesday so we'll see what he says. I'm imagining he'll say rest it. Which is exactly what I don't want to do.

I'm a bit worried though as it... Thu, 2 May 2013 07:45:30 EST 35k walk and 10k race http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5330275 I'm finding this 100k training a bit exhausting. More so than marathon training. On Saturday we planned to walk 40k, it wasn't on trails this time and there wasn't a huge hill so that helped make it a bit easier. It also ended up being about 35k or 22miles instead of 40k. However it took 5 and 1/2 hours. That's on schedule for an approximately 6k an hour pace which is the goal. It is a long time to be on your feet though. My hamstring, which was quite sore on Friday after my long run Thursday... Sun, 21 Apr 2013 04:55:54 EST Loving a day off http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5326746 Lucky had surgery yesterday so I've taken a day off to go pick her up. We're repairing her original cruciate rupture in her right hind leg. I fixed it at the time because I couldn't afford the surgery with the specialist. The surgery we did definitely improved joint stability, enough so that she was comfortable but not to 100%. We had her left leg done just after it was injured last year and there was an infection in the bone and the pins/plates. Instead of being on cage rest for 6 weeks she ... Wed, 17 Apr 2013 18:16:09 EST 100k walk training http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5313281 As I've mentioned before I'm training for a the Oxfam 100k walk in Brisbane. Oxfam does wonderful work if you feel like donating or checking out our team:

trailwalker.oxfam.org.au/team/home/1
4158

To be honest I was planning on marathon training being enough for it, now that I'm only doing the half marathon I was thinking I really need to do some long walks with Gary and Vincent. Our other team member lives in Brisbane, I've actually never met him, so he's... Sat, 6 Apr 2013 03:00:34 EST Half Marathon it is! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5309645 After a 3 hour run of 15.5 miles which included some walking (which I pretty much never do) I decided I will aim for the half in May. It was hot today and I'd been to pump class that morning so I may not have set myself up for success but I just haven't been committed enough to marathon training. I'm okay with that too. There's no way I can do a 50k race in July if we're moving so I'm going to postpone that goal for later in the year when life settles.

I think having tough mudder ... Mon, 1 Apr 2013 06:30:32 EST Twilight Half Marathon Race Report http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5301178 Bit of an odd race this one. We headed down to Brisbane on Friday night. Flight was due to leave at 825pm, it left at 1245am so we weren't off to a great start! We had a good time exploring the city and went to see Cavalia, basically Cirque du Soleil with horses, as well as had dinner with my mother in law. I walked a bit too much and was wearing flip flops so I was a little foot sore on Sunday. The race was actually a twilight run so started at 5pm.

We took the ferry to the race ...
