ANOTHERAMANDA's SparkPeople Blog ANOTHERAMANDA's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Another week. I've been keeping up with my workout routine without any problem so now I need to focus on my diet and eating better. Tue, 21 Aug 2012 11:39:42 EST End of July. Well I've been pretty crappy with keeping up with my blogging record. Even without my weekly journaling online I've been doing pretty well with my weekly workouts and eating better.

Today I went back to the gym for the first time in about a month and tackled the stairmaster. I definitely need to go more but since DH has started walking to the BART station in the mornings I've been getting up and doing DVD workouts earlier and not having to drive him has saved so much time.
... Thu, 26 Jul 2012 12:20:35 EST I missed May and most of June... Well I haven't posted in a long time... we were on vacation and then I forgot...
Then I was away again and then I was sick and then I thought I already did but didn't actually do it. Ya know what I mean?

Anyway, even with all that crap and forgetfulness I've been doing very well with working out regularly and eating better. Maybe it's all the fresh in season foods but I've been adding way more veggies and fruits to my meals. I've actually found myself craving them. Crazy but ... Wed, 20 Jun 2012 13:03:10 EST Going to be a long one... Family stuff is going on back home. Not much I can do about it on the other side of the country except wait for various updates and try not to worry too much. I've managed to workout longer today this morning just to keep from pondering it all. I don't feel better about it but I'm definitely tired so maybe I'll sleep tonight. Either way it's going to be a long day. Tue, 24 Apr 2012 13:23:24 EST Another week. I ended my 40 days without sweets last Saturday, let's just say that all of last week was a very horrible overkill as if I was making up for it. On the positive side, I kept up with my workouts that entire time and took my usual afternoon walks (even though some days were pouring) so I guess it can always be worse. I realized yesterday exactly how crazy I had let myself get and am consciously making amends now by making better food choices. I don't expect to be "perfect" but I definitely went... Mon, 16 Apr 2012 21:32:56 EST Another week. This week is going pretty well. I got a new pedometer and I'm much happier with that. It has an "oh, sh*t" cord so maybe I won't loose this one.

Workouts have been pretty standard. Just did the SP DVD today and took a walk because my right thigh was sore. Hoping to feel better tomorrow. Wed, 4 Apr 2012 23:37:14 EST Darn. Well I've lost another pedometer. This one only lasted a week. I noticed I was missing it when I returned to the car after running a bunch of errands. I'm not sure where I lost it but I guess I need to stick with ones with a safety strap. Ah well. Mon, 26 Mar 2012 23:48:23 EST Mid Week. I wrote a nice long blog entry earlier this morning after I finished my workout but SparkPeople must have had a glitch because it got erased and was never posted. So here's take two...

This week has been pretty great. I'm back to my usual workouts, although using a slightly lighter weight for most of the exercises. (I did use 12lbs weights for a large part of my workout today so I'm definitely getting my stamina back.)

I saw the doctor on Monday and she was so excited ab... Wed, 21 Mar 2012 15:57:33 EST Not a great week exercise-wise Monday I did an AB workout and some other things and by the end of the day it was hurting to breathe or cough (still coughing up stuff occasionally) so I took yesterday off to rest. Today, I did a walking DVD and am hoping to feel better tomorrow. Wed, 14 Mar 2012 12:48:31 EST Started another week. Well I started back to my pre-illness workout routine this morning. I did pretty well overall even though my stamina isn't what it was before I got my cold. I think I'll be working on that this week and making sure to rest as well.

DH got up and went for a run this morning. I was so proud of him. I took a walk behind him since running outside isn't something I have ever been able to do without injuring myself. I admit to being a klutz but I also know that with a lifetime of knee a... Sun, 11 Mar 2012 21:57:10 EST Slowly. Well, I made sure to start the week off slowly since I'm still coughing. I did a weight based workout on Monday and took a walk. Sunday and Tuesday were just a light walking video each and a walk in the afternoons. Today I did a lower body workout and a short kickboxing dvd that arrived yesterday followed by a short walk video (each workout was 20 minutes or less). I'm feeling better but didn't push myself too much. I'll probably take a walk after lunch and rest more. Nothing too exciting but... Wed, 7 Mar 2012 13:04:48 EST Still sick. I'm still feeling pretty congested and exercising isn't something I want to do even if I felt up to it. I was really hoping that I'd feel better this morning. Hopefully sooner rather than later I'm tired of being sick. Thu, 1 Mar 2012 11:01:43 EST Ugh. I haven't exercised since Sunday morning. I'm too congested. I'm starting to feel better and might do something easy tomorrow or I might wait until Friday. At first, I felt bad that I wasn't working out but I always tell DH that he needs to give himself time to recover when he complains that he's tired after an illness. I guess I need to follow my own advice more. Anyway off to do just that.
Wed, 29 Feb 2012 12:59:29 EST Another week. Not much going on this week. DH was sick again with a cough, which again I managed to miss. He is very jealous that neither of us can remember the last time I was sick. I'm not sure if it's my exercise routine or what but I'm glad I've managed to miss the colds he's been bringing home. He started feeling better yesterday but came home with what I think are allergies since the weather here is warmer than normal and everything is in bloom. My eyes have been itchy too if I'm outside too long but... Sat, 25 Feb 2012 11:28:59 EST Feb I could have sworn I posted before this... maybe there was a glitch.

Not too much going on here. Spent yesterday morning at the gym on the stairmaster and than did the rowing machine. When I got home DH suggested I go into the city for lunch/dinner with him so I walked to the BART station and then walked around the city while he was working. Good day but a bit tired from lugging my camera gear.
Thu, 16 Feb 2012 12:46:43 EST Back home. I went back to visit my family in PA on Thursday, 12 January. I got back last Sunday (the 22nd) and kept meaning to update my blog but it didn't happen. I managed to keep active while home but didn't do my usual workouts or the same amount of time preferring to spend as much time with my family as I could which meant working out later at night (usually after 9 p.m.) and for shorter lengths of time. I also counted things as playing in the community pool carrying my 5 year old niece and shoveli... Sun, 29 Jan 2012 15:26:11 EST Slow week. My week started slowly without much exercise at all because I woke up with a knot in my left leg last Thursday so I took Friday to Sunday off since it wasn't going away. I'm feeling 100% now so it was probably a good idea to take it easy but I still felt like a slacker. I didn't want to wait too long to start back up with my exercise routine because I was worried I'd fall into the habit of not doing it very quickly... esp. since I'm leaving today for an after-Christmas visit with my family. I... Thu, 12 Jan 2012 12:22:45 EST January Goals. 1. Walk 15K 3X week (other days 10K)
2. Aim for 10 miles a week walking.
3. Fruit and Veggies with every meal.
4. Cook lunch or dinner 3x/week.
Wed, 4 Jan 2012 23:43:48 EST Almost 2012. Wow. I came along way this and have enjoyed the workouts for the most part. Today, I broke pattern and decided to rest since I was stiff and sore when I woke up. Generally when I start workout any stiffness works itself away but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Might have been the wrong choice but I'm not sorry to skip a workout. Fri, 30 Dec 2011 14:00:58 EST After Christmas. We had a wonderful Christmas day yesterday with DH's parents. I didn't worry about my food choices at all but now that it is over I am back into what choices I should make from here.

I did my morning workout today even though I didn't want too. My arms are sore already so I'm sure tomorrow will be fun. I'm glad that I did it though. It would be harder to get back into working daily the longer I put off starting back up. Mon, 26 Dec 2011 12:44:53 EST Almost Christmas. The week is going pretty well overall. I'm finding myself tempted with all the yummy treats we have in the house but I'm trying not to get too crazy. I had an easy workout day today just some pilates and a walking DVD. I was a little too sore in the upper body from my workouts Sunday and yesterday to do too much. I figured an easier day today would cause less harm than if I kept pushing myself and got hurt. I had planned on going to the gym but the thought of turning a steering wheel made my ... Tue, 20 Dec 2011 13:01:27 EST Mid Week. Overall this month is going pretty well... given all the distractions and temptations the holidays offer. I've stuck with my morning workouts as scheduled and have pushed myself a few times with the weights I have at home. I'm thinking I might need to get some heavier ones after the holidays when exercise equipment tends to go on sale for all those new resolutions.

Wed, 14 Dec 2011 15:01:00 EST Good week. Overall this week has gone pretty well. I'll admit to not wanting to exercise most days this week but I made myself do it and was always glad that I did. I figure not letting the excuses win is a pretty good thing.

Off to the salon for a new hairdo. Thu, 8 Dec 2011 14:03:27 EST December Goals. 1. 90 Day workout DVDs
2. Cook more during the week & weekend. (DH and I have decided to cut back on our eating out which we do a lot on the weekend.)
3. No fries. (I haven't ordered these for myself in a long time but I've gotten into the habit of eating DH's which defeats the purpose of me not ordering any of my own. Right?)
4. Resist the after-dinner cookie. Fri, 2 Dec 2011 12:10:33 EST Good bye November Wow! I never get over how fast November seems to go. I'm going to say that next month too I'm sure but ah well.

Goals this month were
1. Gym 2/week - averaged about 1 but I tried to make it the second time... just lost motivation.
2. Fruits/Veggies - didn't really pay attention so I'm going to call this a fail because I didn't think about it can't recall what I did on average.
3. I finished 50K words in November and ordered my victory t-shirt go me.

Not su... Wed, 30 Nov 2011 19:39:03 EST Another week. Yesterday was DH's birthday so we went out but I still managed to make some good decisions with dinner... although the gingerbread man martini probably wasn't one of them. On the other hand, I let myself have one every holiday season cuz I love them.

Work this week is going well. Went to the gym on Sunday with DH. Rest of the week was workouts at home. I'm planning on the gym again tomorrow. Thu, 17 Nov 2011 13:44:55 EST Mid week. This week has gone much better than last week with goals.
I'm still enjoying the weight training more than I use too. I only got to the gym once last week and I still have one more visit to make this week. Fruits and Veggies certainly depend on my mood but once prepared I eat them so that's good. As for the 50K word challenge, I am officially past halfway! Go me. Thu, 10 Nov 2011 18:32:10 EST Welcome, November Hard to believe we've started November... esp. since I've been wearing shorts and sandals again for the past week. My family didn't want to hear about it since they had snow over the weekend. Ha. Sucks to live in the Northeast sometimes.

Anyway, goals from October:
1. Strength training - 3X a week (I WAS AWESOME ON THIS! Even with vacation, I still managed to keep this up. Go me.

2. Gym - 2X a week. (Sucked at this. Either overslept or just wasn't in the mood so stu... Tue, 1 Nov 2011 15:13:14 EST Mid week. It's hard to believe how fast October has gone... going on vacation can do that I guess.

DH and I haven't exercised together recently but we're planning on it tonight. I know I push myself more when we're working out together.

Tomorrow, weights and probably the gym in the a.m.

No other plans. AMS Wed, 26 Oct 2011 18:57:45 EST Back into the swing. Well we were at Disneyland last weekend for a few days and had a great time. We did a lot of walking. I think our most was 40K but that said I didn't eat very well or do any other exercise. When we got home, I really didn't want to get back into exercising the next morning but I did and I stuck with it. I did my Amy Dixon Breathless Body DVD on Thursday and I'm definitely feeling it today. It's been over 2 weeks since I've done it (for various reasons) and it was as hard as ever.

... Sat, 22 Oct 2011 11:31:27 EST October goals. 1. Keep up the 3X week weight training.
2. Go to the gym 2X a week (don't just do DVDs).
3. Eat veggies & fruit at every meal. Thu, 6 Oct 2011 13:56:29 EST September wrap up. Weight training 3X a week --- I did awesome!
Switch up my exercise routines --- I did awesome!
Cook lunch 2X a week --- I lost interest halfway through the month... but I'll try again.
Thu, 6 Oct 2011 13:55:27 EST Mid week. Almost October. I can't believe how fast September seemed to have gone. I don't know if I made any progress this month or not. I'm starting to lean towards yes but I guess it'll depend how the rest of the week goes.

I'm sore from the Jillian M. DVD I did yesterday. I switched between 5, 8 & 10 lb weights depending on the exercise I and there were some I'm surprised I finished but I did it.

I didn't take many walks last week because it was so hot but I was able to get some in the last t... Wed, 28 Sep 2011 14:01:09 EST Long week. This week felt long, probably because DH was sick again and that always sucks. It doubly sucked this time around because he actually did a workout video with me on Sunday and then was ill Monday and Tuesday with the addition of barely being able to move. He looked like I felt last week the first time I did Breathless Body... (which on a side note I did again yesterday for the second time and it hasn't gotten easier but I still love it.)

No plans this weekend but to relax and scrapb... Sat, 24 Sep 2011 12:11:14 EST New workout I tried Amy Dixon's Breathless Body DVD today and it was hard. I felt like I was going to die but I was so happy that I survived and then I felt so proud. I'm planning on adding this one to my regular DVD rotation. Tue, 13 Sep 2011 22:57:58 EST update. This week is going pretty well... although I had a slow start with the holiday weekend getting into an exercise groove. I think I have that beat.

Thu, 8 Sep 2011 12:30:44 EST September goals. Since I still need to work on stuff from last month I'm going to repeat August's goals.

1. Strength/weight training 3X a week.

2. Switch up my exercise routines more. (I'm doing the same DVDs over and over) Try the tread mill again.

3. Make my own lunch 2X week (instead of relying on frozen Amy's Kitchen meals or dinner leftovers). Plan ahead more. Thu, 1 Sep 2011 13:11:36 EST Good bye August - Hello September! Um, I wasn't so good about blogging last month. I just never remembered when I was in front of the computer. Ah well.

My goals last month went pretty well except for taking a self-portrait every day. I just lost interest when my sister came out for a visit and couldn't get back into it.

1. Strength/weight training 3X a week.... I actually started enjoying this part of my routine. I noticed the difference in my arms in the first half of the month and I think that kept me... Thu, 1 Sep 2011 13:09:56 EST August Goals. We're a few days in and I don't have any good excuse for not posting earlier... just forgot.

Anyway, my goals for August:

1. Strength/weight training 3X a week.

2. Switch up my exercise routines more. (I'm doing the same DVDs over and over)

3. Make my own lunch 2X (instead of relying on frozen Amy's Kitchen meals or dinner leftovers)

(Non-health related) 4. Take a self portrait a day. Wed, 3 Aug 2011 13:14:36 EST July round-up July's Goals:

1. Cutting out the sugar packets in my unsweetened ice tea. (This will be hard! but I've done it before and then fell back on the sugar adding wagon...)

This was hard but I only forgot once. After I found myself dumping sugar in out of habit I knew I needed to stick with this long term...

2. Gym 2X a week Stairmasters (if they are available) and getting on the tread mill (going with DH doesn't count).

I didn't go as often as I thought... Wed, 3 Aug 2011 13:11:08 EST Looking forward to the weekend... I can't believe we're at the end of July already. Before you know it, my birthday will be here. Ack!

The week has gone pretty well. I started with some general cardio DVD and 20 minute shred on Sunday. I went to the gym and hit the stairmaster and rowing machines on Monday. DH wasn't up to going to the gym at all so I did my JM chest workout on Tuesday before going to our apartment gym to use the elliptical machine and the back workout today followed by the SP jump rope video. I ... Thu, 28 Jul 2011 00:29:08 EST Another mid week entry. Well, I didn't exercise yesterday because Monday's workout with Jillian Michael's and then the other stuff I did might have been a bit much. I know it's my fault for not doing more strength training routines since we returned from vacation. I was never sure if DH and were going to go to the gym or not so that kept my routines in the morning focused on cardio... I've decided to mix it up a bit and if DH and I do go at night together I can just do more cardio if I'm recovering from weights... I... Thu, 21 Jul 2011 13:49:31 EST Mid week. DH surprised me during dinner on Sunday suggesting we get up and go to the gym before he left for the train. He has never even considered doing this before (I suggested a few times because going late at night hasn't been a consistent thing). He's not a morning person though so I never pushed it. I always workout first thing in the morning. I like to get it over with and then move on.

So Monday we got up an hour or so early and headed to the gym. Surprisingly, it was dead. I have n... Wed, 13 Jul 2011 20:06:20 EST Happy 4th. Last month went pretty well but I didn't do everything while I was on vacation.

This month:

1. Cutting out the sugar packets in my unsweetened ice tea. (This will be hard! but I've done it before and then fell back on the sugar adding wagon...)

2. Gym 2X a week Stairmasters (if they are available) and getting on the tread mill (going with DH doesn't count).

3. Eating fruits and veggies at every meal like I did on vacation. It's much easier when pe... Mon, 4 Jul 2011 15:56:54 EST Welcome July. Well, I'm back from Alaska. We got home on Wednesday and have been slowly getting back into our regular lives.

I didn't exercise as much as I had planned. It's harder running on a treadmill on a moving ship than I had thought... I made sure to get my 10K steps in every day (some times just walking around the jogging track on deck 7 for what seemed like hours) and taking the stairs everywhere. We went on a glacier hike and toured the towns when we could. Even with more desserts th... Sat, 2 Jul 2011 12:34:36 EST Happy Father's Day Happy Father's Day to all the dads.

We've got plans with the in-laws today, but I managed a short workout this morning. Time to get ready for the day. Sun, 19 Jun 2011 11:19:39 EST It's the weekend! The week is finally over. We didn't get to the gym as often as I hoped because of the heat at night and DH working late but I still went in the morning and worked out at home so I'm feeling pretty good about my progress.

DH seems to be getting more interested in working out... he's even promised to join me at the gym on our vacation. He's never ever wanted to workout on vacation before since he doesn't consider it any fun. I'm glad he's agreed because it'll make it easier for me t... Fri, 17 Jun 2011 22:47:53 EST Weird weekend. The weather this weekend was a bit nuts. It was almost wintry yesterday (I had on jeans, two shirts and a jacket and was still cold) and warm and sunny today (shorts and sandals). I can't complain too much though after the weather my family has been having on the east coast. Glad isn't me. HAHA.

DH and I have started the week right. When he got up this morning, he said he wanted to do cardio until he felt exhausted. Huh? Where is my husband, Pod Man? Usually getting him do any card... Sun, 12 Jun 2011 22:15:37 EST Mid Week. Well I'm finally feeling like myself again. DH and hit the gym Monday night and it was more crowded than I remember it being lately. We had a hard time finding two machines together but finally did. We're planning on going again tonight but it depends on when he gets home from work.

I went by myself yesterday morning and found it just as crowded as the night before. That was partly my fault though since I'm usually there earlier and finishing up just as the patron numbers pick up.... Wed, 8 Jun 2011 20:44:28 EST Belated welcome June! Well, May went pretty well. I managed to meet all my goals until I got sick on Monday. I've basically been sitting on the couch ever since. I'm planning on doing a walking DVD this morning to slowly get me back into my workout routines. Hopefully by next Monday I'll be ready to go back to the gym.

June goals:
1. hit the gym 2X a week (not including times with DH).
2. eat more fruit and veggies.
3. watch less t.v.
