ANNANN63's SparkPeople Blog ANNANN63's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Life is Good I haven't done a blog post in a while. Things are going well in all areas of my life. I am maintaining well and am learning new things as time goes by. My last idea was to significantly up my exercise but I learned fairly quickly that when I do that, I eat a lot more. So the end result is not weight loss. I have cut back on exercise this past week and I am eating a lot less. Exercise is good and sometimes it is a lot of fun but I am not keen enough on it to do lots without a payback. I... Sun, 16 Dec 2012 12:32:50 EST Recording my Weight My weight varies regularly. I usually weigh withing a 2 pound range but can see fluctuations down of as much as 4 and up of as much as 6. I have learned to be comfortable with the constantly moving scale. I used to record my weight here whenever I hit a personal low which recently was 142. I am changing that. I am not going to change my weight here until my highest weight for at least a week is a lower number. So I will stay at my current recorded weight of 143 until I see 142 or lower ... Sat, 1 Dec 2012 08:24:54 EST Current Status and Next Goals I have been back active at SparkPeople since about August 1st and I am down roughly 15 pounds. I am now below my old goal and only a few pounds above my new goal. I have been learning about maintenance and am happy with my progress at this time.

I don't really expect to lose a lot more weight and really do not expect to lose it quickly and that is more than OK. I would like to be at 140 by the end of January and then down to 138 by the end of March. However as long as I do not ... Sun, 18 Nov 2012 12:47:32 EST Day 93 Today my weight is 142. This is the lowest adult weight for me EVER. I am thrilled but in a new and better way. I am learning maintenance while I lose my last few pounds before reaching my new goal of 140. I accept that I will always need to track food, exercise regularly, and even accept that the scale with jump around and sometimes that jump will be up instead of down.

I started an 8 week challenge 3-1/2 weeks ago at 145 and have been up and down between that number and 144 f... Wed, 31 Oct 2012 08:16:42 EST Day 91 Today is day 91 and 3 months went so fast. I am now down nearly 13 pounds. I am currently at 144.2 and my lowest weight a few days ago was 143.8.

I am not losing quickly but I don't even want that. I feel wonderful physically and losing 5-7 pounds will be great but how long it takes is not an issue. What I really want is to learn how to maintain. I am eating a bit less than I would like but not enough less to lose quickly. Where I was losing a pound a week, now I am losing ab... Sun, 28 Oct 2012 18:50:14 EST Feeling Good and Very Positive I am actually in a bit of a slump scale-wise. I was traveling for a week with little exercise and iffy food. Then when I got home I felt off center for a few days. I ate at weight loss calorie level and exercised a lot but the scale actually went up 3 pounds. It is now back down to 144 but that means I have not lost anything (according the the scale) in 2 weeks. I attribute it to weather changes, travel, and just the luck of the draw. I am doing the right things with food and exercise a... Wed, 24 Oct 2012 21:01:58 EST Quick Update Life is good, all is well, and I have been busy. My trip to NC was wonderful and I am glad to be home and getting back to my usual routines. I have learned that routines actually help me--things go better.

My weight is going down but slowly and with my usual ups and downs. I am OK with it. I am learning maintenance and am making the effort to exercise more. Unfortunately I did almost no exercise for a week while away. I feel good at my current weight and losing a few more will... Mon, 22 Oct 2012 14:04:33 EST Day 72 Today has been a strange day. I was out doing my morning bike ride when a neighbor stopped me asking if I had my cell phone. Another neighbor, aged 84 and suffering from early stage dementia had fallen while out walking his dog. Long story short, neighbor was taken off my the paramedics to the hospital and I ended up bringing his dog home with me. The dog is doing well and is very easy to care for BUT I am leaving town Thursday morning and I have no idea exactly when and who is going to b... Tue, 9 Oct 2012 12:54:09 EST Day 71 I had a good day re exercise. I played pickleball for an hour and followed it with an hour on my bike. Tonight I plan on doing nothing more than walking the dog.

I am doing better with food. I decided to eliminate "sugar" with includes things like honey and syrup. I will still eat sweets but only things that will not cause my blood sugar to spike. I have often wanted to eat when I was not hungry and really didn't have any food that I wanted. I would stand at the fridge and tr... Mon, 8 Oct 2012 17:39:15 EST Day 67 Today I weigh 145 exactly. This was my goal weight in 2010. It is wonderful to be back here. At this weight I can actually feel that I am smaller. At this weight my problem areas (legs, knees, midriff) are actually getting smaller. I am very pleased with my progress.

I am starting a 5% challenge on Saturday and will be working on losing an additional 7 pounds. That will take me to my new goal of 140 and then under a couple of pounds. This is the plan but I am going to be r... Thu, 4 Oct 2012 07:11:42 EST Day 60 This morning my weight is 146. I am now down 11 pounds and only 1 pound from my old goal of 145 reached in June 2010. I am starting an 8 week challenge on 10/6 and even with a 10 day trip and family time, I plan to be at my new goal of 140 by the end of the challenge.

I am biking as much as possible as I will not be doing much of that through the winter. It doesn't get really cold here but we do see cooler weather and I find the extra wind generated with biking makes me feel too... Thu, 27 Sep 2012 08:05:51 EST Motivation I made these comments on a blog and decided to put them here also. For those of us that are no longer "young", it is never too late to improve your health.

A bit of motivation you may find helpful.

Yes you are overweight and you are healthy--you are also young. The health dangers of being overweight increase as you age and as you spend years being overweight. I am now 65 and I was always heavy and I had a lot of reasons for this. But when I reached middle age and I w... Tue, 25 Sep 2012 13:39:17 EST Day 56 The last two weeks have been "marching in place". I was feeling very worn out and I was struggling to have enough energy to exercise. I decided to take a break from weight loss and I am feeling much better. The scale says that I have gained two pounds but I always gain a couple or more pounds when I stop eating weight loss level calories. So for me I would say that I am basically maintaining.

I have had a couple of challenges come up and I am glad that I was not trying to lose... Sat, 22 Sep 2012 20:46:37 EST Day 45 I pushed too hard with lots of exercise--much of it in high heat and humidity--while keeping calories a bit too low. I started feeling tired a week ago and it just kept getting worse. I took a couple of days off of serious exercise and ate a bit more and I am feeling better.

I lost 10 pounds in 40 days and what is more important, I really feel the weight loss. I am at a sweet place with my weight where I feel significantly better. My midriff is not my favorite area due to a su... Wed, 12 Sep 2012 08:58:07 EST Day 40 New low weight today--147.2 so that is 10 pounds gone. I am very pleased. I am exercising as much as I can given time, weather, and my energy levels. It is really paying off. I want to keep pushing the exercise because biking is one of the best ones I do and once we get to Nov. it will be too cool and windy to do much on my bike. I will be back to walking most days. Pickleball continues rig ht through winter.

I am now only 2.2 pounds above my SP goal from 2010. I do want t... Fri, 7 Sep 2012 17:34:44 EST Day ? I forget what day I am on because I am moving forward and the goal is not to reach goal, it is to reach it and then maintain it forever.

I feel wonderful. I have lost enough weight that I feel physically the best I have felt ever.

Life is good because God is good. Thank you Lord for everything.
Thu, 6 Sep 2012 15:22:35 EST Day 36 Today my weight is 148. I have lost 9 pounds in 5 weeks. I do realize that part of this is water weight but what feels good is that the scale is going in the right direction.

I am eating more because I am continuing to exercise a lot. Sundays and rain days are the only time my exercise amount is small. Every other day I get out there and do it. Pickleball 3 or 4 times a week plus biking and walking. In August I put 175 miles on my bike. My goal was 150 and I exceeded that. <... Mon, 3 Sep 2012 11:05:31 EST Day 33 Before I am out to exercise I want to share that I am now in the 140s. This morning I weighed in at 149.2. I have had my difficult times but I am continuing to track food and exercise and I am continuing to add additional exercise often. God is good. Life is good. I am feeling very motivated to stay with tracking because it really is what works for me. Fri, 31 Aug 2012 07:45:18 EST Day 32 I have now completed one month of my new life of losing a few pounds while I really learn how to maintain. I have been exercising a lot and my eating has been good. I am pleased most of all with my ability to choose to eat more one day and then go back to weight loss level calories the very next. These higher calorie days are not "cheat" days--they are days when I am so worn out from activity that I need some extra calories. I want to lose another 10 pounds but I do not want to feel weak ... Thu, 30 Aug 2012 07:54:57 EST Day 27 All is going well with food tracking and exercise. However this week I really started to feel worn out. I am now 65 and lots of exercise and a limited diet combined to make me feel really exhausted. To add to the mix, I have been on a clean, purge, organize program that started when I had work done in my kitchen. By the way, I love the changes in the kitchen. It inspires me to keep things neat in that room.

So even though I would prefer to keep working and exercising at a high... Sat, 25 Aug 2012 17:29:31 EST Day 25 I had some good news today. Went to the doctor expecting to be scheduled for a colonoscopy and found out I will not need another one for 3 more years. Very good news.

I have been on the go since 7am and I am wearing out. I think I am going to lay down for a bit. Thu, 23 Aug 2012 18:16:33 EST Day 24 Tracking is going well. Exercise is going well. Life is good.

I am busy doing some cleaning, organizing, purging of all the "stuff" that I don't use or display on a regular basis. I have accomplished a lot and still have much to do. I have identified some stuff to sell at your community yard sale in early October. I am also doing the last few tasks in my kitchen.

Wed, 22 Aug 2012 21:08:46 EST Day 21 I am feeling good about staying with the program for 3 weeks. I know I can do this--lose the weight--and I am truly believing that I will be able to maintain my loss. When I reached my goal weight 2 years ago I was really concerned about maintenance and I remember that I really, really did not want to continue to track calories. Now I understand that my calorie tracker is one of my best friends. If I do not know how much I am eating it becomes difficult (if not impossible) to maintain wei... Sun, 19 Aug 2012 11:36:34 EST Day 19 My kitchen in back and it is so nice. I have been doing deep cleaning as work as progressed and I still have a couple of things yet to clean. This morning I scrubbed my toaster oven inside and out. I also scrubbed down the outside of my kitchen door and washed 3 windows outside. I still need to do the inside of the windows and one on the outside. I have a courtyard in the back and I need to go all the way around the house to do that last outside window.

I played pickeball at ... Fri, 17 Aug 2012 10:26:27 EST Second Blog Today Today was really great. I have some projects going on and today I did a lot of work in my kitchen. I have been removing everything from the cabinets and drawers and cleaning, purging, and reorganizing. I did about 1/3 of it the other day and nearly finished today. I actually thought I was finished until I opened one cabinet and realized I had not cleaned it. Oh well, I will do it soon. The plumber is coming tomorrow to install my new sink. I have a few more cleaning tasks and then my k... Wed, 15 Aug 2012 22:28:30 EST Day 17 Yesterday was an epic fail. But today is a new day and I will not look back. Forward and on track is what this day will be. I started my day with a 14 mile bike ride which is excellent. I rarely do more than 10 miles at a time. Although I am in good shape I find more than 10 is still challenging. However I am consistently riding at a faster pace. When I started riding I was doing good to average 8 MPH and now I am averaging over 10 MPH. I will be playing pickleball the next three morn... Wed, 15 Aug 2012 09:53:05 EST Day 14 Finished tracking day 13. Tomorrow starts week 3. I am having challenges some days but am keeping my calories within my budget. Exercise is going well although I am not sure what will happen today. It is too hot to get out now, I did not get out this AM due to early church services and we have been getting rain most evenings. I will think of something if I don't get a chance to ride or walk tonight.

Just writing this and using the work budget gave me an idea. I am a CPA and b... Sun, 12 Aug 2012 13:01:06 EST Day 13 (Of being Back on Program) I have now completed 12 days of tracking. I have been getting more exercise and I have been staying under my maximum allowed calories. It feels good and although I have some difficult times when I want to eat and I really should not, overall it is going well. Sat, 11 Aug 2012 07:25:26 EST This and That My weight is going down and I am able to keep eating under control. Some days I get that "want to eat" feeling without really wanting anything in particular. It doesn't always work but sugar free gum has been working since I started to track food last week. I am exercising well and have been forcing myself to start a bike ride or walk. Once I get going all is well.

The kitchen countertops look good, the new sink has arrived and I am waiting for a few necessary bits before I ca... Thu, 9 Aug 2012 11:21:50 EST Busy Week DH fell last Friday evening. He decided to check that the front door was locked and turned out the light, headed across the room (in the dirk) and tripped on a box that he really did know was on the floor. We went to the ER and he is OK but he looks awful. He had a huge bump on his forehead and now has two black eyes, a bruised forehead and bruises on both cheeks. He doesn't feel good but he doesn't feel really bad either.

The plumber came today and removed our old sink. I cle... Mon, 6 Aug 2012 20:27:12 EST Exercise Yesterday I put exercise up on my priority list and did an hour of biking in the AM and 30 minutes in the PM. I am now consistently averaging 10+ MPH.

Today and Saturday are regular pickleball days and I have agreed to play on Friday also.

I am really taking one day at a time.

I have a big project in my kitchen scheduled for next week. It is exciting. The downside is that we will be without a kitchen for most of a week and will be eating out more. I am goi... Thu, 2 Aug 2012 08:16:58 EST Update I started a post and it disappeared. So in brief. I lost, I gained it back. I started to really question why I struggle so much with eating. I learned it is stress and self-criticism that eats at me so then I eat. All this is self-imposed. So I am learning to let go and things are better.

I am now weighing and measuring food and using the food tracker here. I find it too easy to eat more calories just because I don't do these things

My exercise is good but I can... Wed, 1 Aug 2012 08:52:40 EST Slow but Still Losing Yesterday was a really good day. The scale was down and I tried on some pants that had been too small and they fit. I am now comfortably wearing a size 6 petite. I can actually feel that I have lost. Two years ago I went down to 145 and I was amazed at how wonderful it felt physically to be at that weight. I am now very close to that weight again--147.2 this morning.

The goal I made in December was 135 but I am going to wait and see. I am more interested in how I feel and my ... Thu, 12 Apr 2012 07:34:28 EST Progress Report It has been a bit over 3 months since I made a new goal to lose 20 pounds and as of this morning I have lost 8. I am very pleased with my progress. I am not dieting but I am learning to eat differently. I am not yet vegetarian but I have reduced my consumption of animal based foods significantly. I am doing this because I have become convinced that the optimal diet is vegan with as much raw food as possible. I have not yet set a goal to become vegan but I am using this as a guide for my ... Sat, 31 Mar 2012 08:21:16 EST Things are Better I am now down to 149 and it is always nice to leave the 150s. I have been feeling better about my eating. I have days (like yesterday) when I do very well and days like today where my eating isn't what I want. I would say today I ate "maintenance" rather than "lose weight." Given that one of my goals is to learn how to keep from regaining, that is good. I think it is going to take me longer to reach my goal that I originally hoped but as long as I am going in the right direction, all is... Sat, 11 Feb 2012 19:04:19 EST Status Report Some things are going well; others not as well. My weight has been up and down with only a 5 pound loss for the month+ I have been back to losing. Not awful but discouraging. My exercising is going well. Playing pickleball 3 times a week (and a 4th time tomorrow if it doesn't rain), a bit of biking, a good amount of walking and for the first time in a while I did my weight work 3 times this week. Last Saturday I did not finish my workout as something important took me away in the middle ... Thu, 26 Jan 2012 21:28:26 EST Learning Some New Things Being me, I really wanted to lose weight as fast as possible and it isn't happening. It is actually a blessing. What is happening is that I am doing what all the experts say you must do to keep the weight off after you lose it. I am learning how to eat for the rest of my life. I am not counting calories, I do eat anything I really want, I am doing "scratch" cooking and eliminating a lot of not-so-good-for-me things from the foods I really want to eat. And, I have made some commitments to... Mon, 16 Jan 2012 23:01:48 EST We are unique. Just a quick entry before I head out to play Bridge. I am blogging about what works for me because it may start someone else thinking about something new or in a different way. But I completely agree that we are all unique and what works for me will not necessarily work for others. A big part of the weight loss journey is finding what works for each of us not just to lose the weight but to learn about ourselves so we can keep the weight off.

I am not a "perfect" eater and I am l... Wed, 4 Jan 2012 11:52:44 EST My one most helpful thing for losing and maintaining weight. Sit at the table to eat. Do not watch TV. Do not read anything. Do not work a puzzle. As much as possible think about enjoying the food.

Once I am no longer hungry, I find that I get very bored just eating so I stop. I have a couple of things I allow myself.

I am allowed to eat anything as long as I eat it this way. When I want to lose weight I will make an effort to lower the fat, carbs, and total calories of what I am eating. But if I really want junky, no nutri... Tue, 27 Dec 2011 18:26:23 EST Back to lose 20 pounds. It has been quite a while since I was here. SP helped me lose 35 pounds 2 years ago and I was able to reach my then-goal weight of 145. I went on maintenance and it was a new world and I have learned a lot about myself while in maintenance. I know what works and I also know that it can be difficult to consistently do what works. But I did make some life changes two years ago that I do all the time so I know that even us oldsters (I'll be 65 in April) can change. And I know the process of... Sat, 24 Dec 2011 07:22:53 EST Another Good Day I am tapping and I am not eating salty and sweet foods and it is wonderful. Today is day 4 or 5--I cannot remember for sure when I started.

I was thinking about why I was so reluctant to give up the desire for these foods and I think it is pretty simple. We all grew up on these foods being "treats" and in our current culture they are so available and easy (because they require no more preparation that buying them), that I really felt that eating them was "treating" myself and soo... Sun, 13 Feb 2011 18:39:56 EST Happy Holidays to All I really haven't been here for a few weeks. I have gained a few pounds and am struggling to take them off. I did so well maintaining for months and then started having real problems. I am not sure exactly why but I have been having migraines daily for weeks and it is taking a toll.

I have had migraines since I was injured in a car accident at age 2. Sometimes I go years without one but when they start, I get them frequently and sometimes for a many months. I am not giving up a... Sat, 4 Dec 2010 20:05:46 EST Thank you to all my friends and acquaintenances at SP. I started my weight loss plan 12/24/2009 because I NEEDED to be healthy--now and for the future. I had my yearly check up in October and it was fantastic.

I am off my high blood pressure medication. I don't take any other medications.
My EKG is normal.
All of my labs are normal and my lipid profile is so good the doctor said he has never seen one better.

I had to have a colonoscopy after only 3 years and they did find 2 polyps. I am still awaiting the biopsy... Sat, 6 Nov 2010 09:50:37 EST Monday Things are really good. DH saw the urologist last week and the appointment was perfect. Everything was good and all went well. We have decided to wait until a new PSA test in November to decide about more medical tests. I had my physical which was perfect except I learned that I need a colonoscopy. I had one three years ago and they found 1 polyp. It was benign but not the best kind of benign so they want a follow up at 3 years instead of 5. I go Friday to see the surgeon and they wil... Mon, 18 Oct 2010 13:38:56 EST A Perfect Day The weather here in central Florida is perfect. We went to church early and very much enjoyed the service. This week finished up a 4 week video presentation on "The Blessed Life" by Robert Morris. It is really wonderful. I highly recommend the book. We watched this series at church last year and it was the starting point from which many wonderful things happened to bless me--one being my successful weight loss journey.

We then went shopping and DH stopped for breakfast at Subw... Sun, 3 Oct 2010 19:29:28 EST Life is Good Although life is still handing me challenges, October is beautiful and I am believing that it is going to be an awesome month that I will enjoy very much.

DH rides his bike each morning and feeds and pets all the dogs he meets who are out walking with their owners. He has been concerned about one guy for a couple of years. His health is not wonderful and his beautiful Australian shepherd is young and active. About two years ago DH didn't see either one for some days and was worr... Sat, 2 Oct 2010 20:53:38 EST Challenges This week has been challenging. DH had some medical issues. He is now feeling great, back to all his exercise and activities, and enjoying life. However, we have medical tests to schedule and we are not going to know for a while exactly what our next step will be. DH wears a permanent catheter and Tuesday had to have a painful procedure to get through an obstruction in order to get a new one in.

We are confident that all is well. God is very good to us and we are truly blesse... Sat, 25 Sep 2010 10:50:54 EST Lifestyle Changes I have been thinking lately about the real changes I have made in my lifestyle. I am now in maintenance and my weight goes up a few pounds and then I cut back on my eating and it goes back down. I am eating much better than I used to but I still tend to overeat if I am not watching things. Here are some of the changes in my eating:

Problem food #1 Chocolates. I used to eat bags of chocolates and have been know to eat 2 full bags in a day. Now I tend to buy one or two candy bar... Tue, 14 Sep 2010 21:50:52 EST EFT is a wonderful tool that has helped me so much. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is something that has helped me so much in my weight loss journey. Today I found something helpful that improves the results of doing EFT. I posted the following information three places on the EFT team page and even sent it as an e-mail to all the members of that team because I feel it is that helpful. EFT is easily learned and can be used to help with weight loss, emotional issues, health issues, and really is worth trying on anything that you want to c... Mon, 6 Sep 2010 17:03:22 EST Change is not Good or Bad; It is just Different Change is not good or bad--it is just different. The point of this statement is that change is what you make of it. Sometimes a change seems to us to be a very bad thing and in the course of time we find that it was one of the best things that ever happened to us. Embrace change no matter if it is something you have chosen or something imposed on you. It is, it exists now, and all you can really do is make the very best of it. It isn't really all that scary and the more you accept change in y... Wed, 1 Sep 2010 10:56:50 EST
