ANEWLIFE101's SparkPeople Blog ANEWLIFE101's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community This is clearly not working. Ugh. The last month and a half has been incredibly a nutshell it boils down to a few key things.

1. My grandpa went into the hospital in mid May due to some uriology issues. He's home not but with a catheter for the foreseeable future, things could have been much worse, but its super hard for me to see him this way. He's almost 92 years old and has essentially given up.

2. DJs car died and needed far more in repairs than it was worth, which brings us to h... Sat, 14 Jun 2014 10:40:33 EST Clarification. Thank you for all the lovely, supportive comments on my last post! It means a lot to me, especially when I blog just to get things out, that people are there and willing to be so positive. Thank you, thank you!

To be clearer about my rambling...I'm not getting 'bogged down' by the large number anymore. I just needed to get that all out of my head and down on paper. Now that it is, it's not as intimidating, yay! What I found that worked for me in the past was (like you all suggest... Mon, 10 Mar 2014 12:57:43 EST Challenge time! 54 pounds (or more!) in 8 months...can it be done?! I suppose only time will tell!

Dropping 54 pounds in 8 months would bring me to 130 pounds by the very end of November 2014. It would be incredible to ring in the New Year, a completely new person. But it's a huge number. And that's overwhelming. When I get overwhelmed I shut down, and shutting down is what led me to hating what I see in the mirror every day.

If I had a patient tell me that they were unhappy with their weight, I'd tell them to forget the scale and to ... Sun, 9 Mar 2014 13:47:31 EST Where I stand, and where I want to be. The last time I weighed myself, I weighed 181-right after Thanksgiving. I haven't weighed myself since then, as I'm not sure I want to know how much I weigh now. I am getting 'are you loosing weight' compliments from some people at work though, so that's good!

I figured I'd write down, here, what our goals (personal and family) are for 2014.

1. Family goal: pay down credit card debt, and work towards paying off the new furniture early.
Neither of us use the cred... Sat, 4 Jan 2014 10:31:34 EST So this is what rock bottom feels and looks like...balls... I'm a married lady, yay! DJ and I have been married a month already and to be honest it doesn't feel any different than NOT being married. That's not exactly true, I've gotten super comfortable with how things are and that's when I was faced with rock bottom.

Firstly, I gained the weight I wanted to loose but that's 100% on me because I didn't do anything about loosing it til a week and a half before the wedding. That meant that I spent a week making terrible choices about how to... Wed, 2 Oct 2013 16:37:07 EST Well that escalated quickly... We've been juicing over here, with little result. I've learned some things though which is great.

1. Even DJ will eat carrots if I juice them with an apple and some ginger.

2. Kale smells like dirt, and has to be washed about 9 times before it's clean enough to use. Even then, it still smells like dirt and as an added bonus: it tastes like dirt too.

3. Not all green juices are delicious. Green lemonade, however, is.

4. If you start juicing (2x a... Sat, 27 Jul 2013 14:01:09 EST Life in the produce section Six weeks til I'm a married lady! (Ohmigosh, six weeks!) Had my wedding shower and bachelorette party this past weekend, and I realized how absolutely incredibly my family and friends are. I'm so thankful that these wonderful ladies took the time to celebrate with me. :)

I've decided to start outlining our weekly menus here, so that I can keep track of them (and maybe inspire some other people in the process. We're taking the big step of buying a juicer towards the end of th... Tue, 16 Jul 2013 14:00:15 EST Reality is harsh... I had my first wedding dress fitting last week, nothing like waiting til the last minute-I'm getting married in two months! I've gained weight, so it's good that I ordered the next size up on my dress. I hate that I've gained more weight, but it's my own damn fault.

I even bought Spanx for under my dress. I HATE THEM. Seriously. It too forever to get them on, and with my dress on too I felt like I might pass out it was so warm. It doesn't help that the co-owner made an (uni... Wed, 3 Jul 2013 15:07:40 EST It's been a while! I'm proud to say that I've been 85 days without soda!

Today is the first day of summer vacation for my daughter, and I feel like it's a good time to set some more goals for myself. I have 74 days til I get married, and I can make a lot of healthy choices in that amount of time so that's what I'm going to do.

1. Cook at home as much as possible, which means I need to be smarter in my meal planning than I have been. In fact, I'd like to use the oven as little as possibl... Wed, 19 Jun 2013 13:05:38 EST Working it Missed a day of logging into Spark, and ruined my 40+ day streak of that. And I've slacked in the water department, and I can definitely see it in skin condition. Yuck! I haven't caved and drank soda though! It's been 51 days without it.

Seriously behind on the wedding stuff however...finished the wedding website last night, and tracked down all but 2 of my invite addresses. Still gotta print the invites and get them ready to go in the mail. Have to make my final dress/veil/flow... Thu, 16 May 2013 09:37:52 EST Two 'streak' goals met! Met two of my 'streak' goals today! Today marks a full 7 days of drinking at least 8 glasses of water (today I drank 100oz!) and as a reward I'll be purchasing the next book in the Southern Vampire Mysteries (aka, True Blood) AND I'll be getting a new Vera Bradley wallet for making it a week of logging my food. (I think I might have mixed up the streaks that go with the rewards, but it's all the same.

My next water goal comes at 14 days of drinking at least 8 glasses of water every... Sun, 5 May 2013 23:48:33 EST Struggling I'm struggling with finding appropriate rewards for my streaks. I want them to be enticing enough to work towards, but not crazy expensive right off the bat-I AM paying for a wedding here!

That being said, the streaks are helping me stay more accountable-it's fun to sit down at the end of a day and click 'yes' to a bunch of things I did. Nearly 40 days without soda-which means I'm 52 days from a teeth whitening kit! (this does double duty, as I'll have a prettier smile for my wed... Sat, 4 May 2013 09:04:00 EST Shaking things up a bit After seeing some people who reward themselves for spark streaks, instead of actual weight lost, I'm intrigued. I love seeing the number on the scale go down, but I'm starting to think that I might be a little too focused on the numbers; for example, last week I weighed 175.2 and was able to record a five pound weight loss. I was SO excited!

Fast forward to this week, I stepped on the scale and it said 180. Sad day. I know WHY it read such a high gain, and it'll go away soon, but... Sun, 28 Apr 2013 11:04:36 EST Made it! I've officially gone 30 days without soda. When I was in college I went several years without drinking the stuff, but since I've worked in the health care industry (3pm-11pm full time) I've picked the habit back up, and it wasn't pretty. I was drinking upwards of 50oz of soda per night. Regular soda which is bad enough, but then I started drinking diet soda too; and that crap is worse for you than the regular stuff.

I don't really miss it, but I think that's because I've continued... Thu, 25 Apr 2013 07:53:54 EST Found a great deal... and joined a gym. For 20.00/month I'm able to use a gym in town, and get discounts on things like massages and other services that they provide. What's nice about this gym is that they open early so that three days a week, DJ and I can workout together, which we did this morning. On the other two days I can drop into a group class for only $6.00 at a time. They even offer yoga classes!

I think that going 3x a week with DJ to use the machines (today was cardio day, we used the elli... Wed, 10 Apr 2013 13:53:48 EST April 25th, 2013 Will be 30 days soda free. My goals are wonderful, but I think I need a new system for creating realistic goals for myself.

I absolutely want to work my way up to a Whole 30 AND a Power 90 stretch together, but oi. Together right now it's kind of overwhelming. I was reading a favorite fitness website of mine that gave some suggestions on achievable goal setting.

Set your goals
Make a plan
Get to work
Stick to it
Success!

So:
<B... Sat, 6 Apr 2013 10:07:46 EST After talking A LOT to friends of mine, I've decided (again) to do a Whole 30 challenge. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's 30 days of whole foods (sounds pretty simple, right?), and NOTHING processed.

No:
Dairy (I don't know how I feel about this one)
Legumes
Sugar or any sort of sweetener
Alcohol
Grains

That leaves PLENTY of food to eat, believe me, I won't be hungry. I can have bacon! And eggs! And fruit! I'm excited. And veggies. I'm not AS ... Thu, 28 Mar 2013 13:45:40 EST Making progress on the wedding... at the expense of my pants. Seriously. I can't button the majority of my pants. As someone who wears pants every single day, this is a problem. I'm too chicken to weigh myself, but the last time I stepped on the weird scale at work, it hit 178. UGH. I don't trust the scale, but considering that my pants don't fit, I'm thinking it's more realistic than not.

It's also a problem that my dress and veil are in at the store, and I'm putting off going into pay it off and start my altera... Wed, 27 Mar 2013 15:24:55 EST And then there were seven. I have to figure out how to, realistically, get business together. I've slipped and drank soda again recently, and have been to Dunkin Donuts a lot more than usual. I love coffee, and even though I should give it up; I can't figure out how to do that successfully. I'm so addicted to it that without a cup, I get a terrible headache.

My mom, dad, and Kiera all came to the wedding boutique with me yesterday before work which was awesome. We got Kiera measured for her flower girl dres... Sun, 3 Feb 2013 10:55:04 EST New Life Goals for 2013 1. Continue on the no soda band wagon.

I feel really good about how this has gone, and LOVE that I'm down almost 5 pounds because of it. I miss it occasionally, but like I was telling a friend of mine, I think it's the bubbles and the fizz that I miss the most. I'd like to include coffee in this, but I'll take it a little bit at a time-I've drastically reduced my coffee consumption so far which is awesome.

2. Commit to a 30 day paleo challenge.

This isn't a... Mon, 31 Dec 2012 13:41:04 EST Holidays 2012 I'll admit it. The Christmas season makes me decidedly anxious. Family that we only see once or twice a year came for a visit; and stayed at our apartment. Christmas also means that things are spread out throughout the week-we had our first one last Thursday night (with pizza and wine), yesterday with my parents (and breakfast casserole, eggs, and fruit salad), today with Kiera (with cinnamon rolls) and probably again tomorrow with my parents AND Kiera. They're also bringing pizza. It used ... Wed, 26 Dec 2012 10:42:49 EST Reality vs. Fantasy Just had a physical for the first time in longer than I care to admit. I've not been great at taking care of myself, and it's time to change that. That means that I need to be real about how much I weigh/what I'm putting in my mouth.

According to the doctor's scale I weigh 170 pounds which is a 20 pound gain in the two years I've been with DJ. I'm the happiest I've ever been, but it's not healthy. This is absolutely the most I've ever weighed and it makes me really ashamed of myse... Tue, 11 Dec 2012 13:36:30 EST So close! At the end of this month, in approximately 27 days, I will have gone 1 whole year without buying or eating McDonald's food. This very well may be the only goal I've stuck to all year; but I've done it!

I went to McDonald's several months ago to meet with a customer regarding a custom piece I'd finished for her; and I had to leave after five minutes in there. It smelled so disgusting I thought I was going to be sick. The air was thick with grease and I just felt gross being there.... Tue, 4 Dec 2012 23:54:15 EST I did it! For those of you who read this, and have looked around at my page; you'll know that one of my top goals/reasons for loosing some weight was to complete a 5k race with my mom.

I'm happy to say that this morning (after going to bed at 1am and getting up at 6am) at 10am, my mom and I started our first 5k ever. This is big for both of us, for me because I've been saying FOREVER that it was a goal of mine; and my mom because six months ago she had open heart surgery, and last week she ... Sat, 27 Oct 2012 14:06:36 EST Operation LTFF, week one update My goals for the past week were:

Complete Coach Nicole's 7 Day Boot Camp videos
Eat breakfast everyday
Drink more water (aiming for 28 glasses this week)
Choose green tea over coffee
Walk 30 minutes a day.

I have a hard time following through on things. A seriously hard time. I got 4/7 days of the boot camp done. (Which I suppose is better than no days, right?)

I did eat something for breakfast everyday, but the choices could have been... Thu, 4 Oct 2012 09:45:38 EST Operation: LOOSE THE FAT FACE. Disclaimer-I look at myself and only myself and see things that I dislike. When I say 'fat face' I am referring specifically to my double chin and lack of jaw bone definition when I'm hit with a close up. When it's a three quarter shot, add in my definite lack of collar bones. Therefore. It is time to loose the 'fat face.' Breaking it into chunks, I'll be outlining my plan, and progress here. I have exactly 339 days until I get married. That is AMPLE time to loose the double chin.

... Wed, 26 Sep 2012 18:06:17 EST I found some new things, that I think might work for me! Poking around online, I think I've found some basic exercises that might help kick me into some sort of regular exercises!

I love, love, love Coach Nicole's 7 Day Boot Camp workouts. I can do anything for seven days, and these have modifications for people who haven't really worked out before.

has free workouts online too...5-20 minutes and they look pretty basic (not a lot of equipment which is perfect for an apartment dweller like me!)

Lastly, ... Wed, 26 Sep 2012 16:48:09 EST Uh oh... DJ and I had our engagement pictures taken last night and it was awesome! I cannot wait to see how they turn out.

My dad then took some more pictures with his camera after our photographer left-and I'm not sure if it's cause of how we were posing or what but-I have the dreaded 'fat face'

I didn't really feel badly about how I looked until I saw myself on film. Ugh. I have a double chin and a really puffy face. Not good. Anyone have any ideas on what to eat/exerci... Wed, 26 Sep 2012 11:42:38 EST Crash and burn. Kind of. While it's true that some of my weekly goals have crashed and burned; I DID manage to start my baby blanket for a friend.

Actually, I managed to put together an entire Facebook page and am selling my knitwear. While it's nothing I ever expected to take off, it has taken off with somewhat of a vengeance! I specialize in small scale custom knit products for small children and the home. Little Monster Knits is in the very early stages and I'm looking forward to expanding to an actual... Thu, 20 Sep 2012 12:21:13 EST New Goals: These goals are pretty easily stated; but I'm not sure how easily I'll be able to follow through on them. Ugh. You'd think moving up my wedding would be motivation enough, but I'm not so sure.

Goal 1: Refrain from buying snacks/meals at work this weekend. This includes snacking in the kitchen on our unit; which is harder to control.

Goal 2: Starting Monday (09.17.12) start Coach Nicole's 7 Day boot camp videos. It's not much, but something is better than nothing. <BR... Wed, 12 Sep 2012 17:13:03 EST Highs and Lows A high of today: Family is coming to visit! DJ's sister Dana is coming to visit with her boyfriend Mark. It's been a while since she's been up, and this will be the first time she's able to see our new apartment.

Low: DJ's working til 2:30pm and I leave for work at 2pm. We'll be able to see each other tonight (maybe for a little bit) but definitely tomorrow before he goes to work at 11am.

High: Kiera's here til tomorrow AM, so she'll get to spend lots of time with her ... Sat, 8 Sep 2012 08:53:29 EST Who am I kidding... This weight loss thing isn't happening for me, because I'm not working on it. Ugh. I have nobody to blame but myself. I have 13 months until the wedding, and have only lost (and probably regained) four pounds. That's not terrible, but I REFUSE to buy a 14/16 wedding dress. Ideally, I'd like to be in a street size 8/10 which would put me into a size 12 dress.

Time to get serious and stop screwing around. Goals for the rest of August (14 days)

Drink water. As I ty... Fri, 17 Aug 2012 09:44:29 EST The first step! Is always the hardest. Blah. Blah. Blah.

I weighed myself on my mom's scale-the one I was using when I lived at home and the scale at work was right. So my ticker reflects that. On Monday (two weeks after weighing myself and finding that I weighed 165) I weighed myself again and found that I weigh 161. YAY! Maybe it's the water? I don't know.

After a lot of thought, I've decided that while I'm happy with ANY weight loss I don't need to loose 30-35 pounds by the w... Thu, 12 Jul 2012 09:28:48 EST Progress I'm making progress, it's true! I've been drinking more water-100oz while at work this weekend-so 200oz in two days. I feel like I could float off! But it must be doing something for me, cause I stepped on the scale, and I've lost four (!!) pounds since my last weigh in fourteen days ago.

Speaking of weighing in, I think I'll settle for Monday mornings so that it keeps me responsible at work over the weekends. Also, I need to start packing my food from home. The cafeteria at work ... Mon, 9 Jul 2012 15:43:18 EST Dresses! I'm going on my first dress shopping expedition with my mom tomorrow! I'm super excited to try on wedding dresses-however I'm not as excited to know that I'll most likely be in a size 14 due to the weird way wedding dresses are sized.

This got me to really thinking about what to do about it. Yes, I want to be healthy and thinner for my wedding, but that's not the only reason. Down the road, DJ and I would like to have a baby and I need to start getting healthier now so that I'm le... Sun, 24 Jun 2012 13:32:39 EST I think it's broken! I haven't weighed myself in ages, I'm just going by how my clothes feel and I thought that was going well. Then I stepped on the scale at work last night. 164.8 WHAT?! My work pants are almost falling off me. That doesn't scream "You've gained 14 pounds!" to me.

I haven't been eating the best food lately-and I've been drinking soda again. Ugh. Add to all this that I'm going dress shopping in the next month or so and I'm not a happy camper.

Time to reinstate... Sat, 23 Jun 2012 10:29:48 EST My first week of food recording did not go well at all.

I stopped actually putting the food into the food tracker because I was so ashamed. It started out really well, and I was committed. And then I wasn't. I ate crap. Horrible food that I knew wasn't good for and wings and bread sticks for dinner, pizza rolls, chips and dip; cookies, milk duds.. for lunch... breakfast was a joke.

And I have no good reason for acting this way at all. None.

I did okay while I was at work, I ate... Thu, 24 May 2012 11:33:42 EST I need a do over. I haven't been very honest or realistic on here. I say I want to loose 20 pounds total, but the way I'm eating, I'll probably GAIN twenty before my wedding. Actually, I need to stop thinking about it like that. Maybe that's my problem. I need to look at it as a way to make my life better, instead of a goal for a single day. *sigh*

My mom just had open heart surgery, and while she's doing better every day, I can't help wondering if the fact that she's overweight contributed t... Thu, 17 May 2012 10:14:00 EST Keys! We finally got our keys to our new apartment last night which is super exciting!

The less exciting part is the packing and moving, but I'm gonna look at it as strength training and the three sets of stairs as cardio. I wonder how many calories I can burn...

I finally have my 'set' schedule at work, starting today I'll be working from 3pm-11pm which works out really well. It gives me the chance to bring things to the new apartment and set them up and it gives me t... Tue, 15 May 2012 09:04:15 EST Conundrum... I started my new job this week-I'm now a Psych Tech at the hospital by my house; and have quit working at the nursing home. A lot of factors led to making the decision to switch jobs, not only the increase in pay (I'm working less hours so it's roughly the same per paycheck as I was making working 5 days a week at my old job).

Here's my dilemma...I feel very unproductive during my shift. We have 14 patients and all of our staffed beds are occupied. Which means that, based on our a... Sat, 12 May 2012 22:28:51 EST Very exciting! Things just seem to be falling into place for DJ and I! Last month he got a phone call from a college friend asking him if he was still loving the job he had. When DJ's friend found out that DJ was looking for different work experience, he told him about a position opening at the new UPS store that's coming to our town this summer. Our friend is going to be the General Manager and wanted DJ to be his Assistant Manager. DJ said yes, and will be starting his new position on May 1st with the new... Wed, 25 Apr 2012 09:47:48 EST To keep me motivated! This is going to turn into a wedding/fitness blog.

I have approximately 1 year to loose 15-25lbs and maintain it for my wedding. I have approximately that long to make a TON of things for the wedding. You see, I found this awesome DIY Bride wedding craft book full of incredible things that I want to make for our wedding.

So, it's a reward system. I did a little research and found out that if I walk from my apartment to the library and back home again, it's 1.0 miles. My... Sun, 22 Apr 2012 08:30:05 EST It's time for an overhaul. I got home from work last night, and DJ told me he'd stepped on a scale for the first time since probably Thanksgiving. The results weren't what he was looking for-he's classified as obese on the BMI scale, and we're both scared of that label...he doesn't look like a stereotypical obese person; so I guess it'd be called functionally fat.

I'm not much better off, I weigh between 150-155, and classify as overweight. I have (we have) exactly 15 months before we get married; and... Mon, 16 Apr 2012 11:02:42 EST Meals for April(ish) I had to find a spot to write down all the meal plans for the next few weeks, and what better place than this?

They're not out of the HG 300 Calorie Cookbook, but at least we're planning ahead!

April 5th: Buffalo Chicken Macaroni and Cheese

Friday:

Saturday:

Sunday

Monday: Dinner with my parents

Tuesday: Beef Stroganoff on Pasta

Wednesday: Pancakes or French Toast with Apples

Thursday: Ta... Thu, 5 Apr 2012 07:50:21 EST April Goals I've been really inconsistent on here in terms of health goals and since a new month starts Sunday, I figure I might as well write down some health and household goals.

Health Goals:

1. Drink more water. I have an awesome new reusable cup that holds 24 ounces. If I fill that up four times a night at work I'll end up drinking 96oz a night.

2. Refit Iggy's walking harness and walk with him more, it's good for both of us! To start, I think I'll aim for 2x week... Fri, 30 Mar 2012 17:56:03 EST Bucket List and New Year's Goals Progress So far, it's been three months (next week) without McDonald's. If that's the only goal I accomplish this year, I'll be proud of myself.

I've only bought ONE skein of yarn, and am working on several different projects in order to bust my stash. This is harder, I haven't been to my favorite yarn store since before the holidays cause I have that little amount of willpower.

Paying off my credit card bill. I'm pleased to announce that I haven't used my credit card in two mo... Fri, 23 Mar 2012 20:39:38 EST New Bucket List I've been thinking a lot and reflecting on where I've been, and where I want to go and I've come up with a new life bucket list.

1. Pay off credit card debt.
2. Marry the mister. Yay!
3. Buy a house.

1. A: I've been able to make 300.00 payments since January, and didn't use my credit card at all in February. My goal is to not use it in March either, but to take my extra paycheck and apply it directly to the balance. That means I'll end up paying 1200... Tue, 6 Mar 2012 12:07:33 EST Success and failures...or would it be better to call them setbacks? I'm still alive. Not around here as much as I could or should be, but at least I keep coming back-that's something!

The good: I still have not gone to McDonald's. My last visit was 12/31/11, and I'm still going strong. Ha, it kind of feels like the introduction to a binge eaters anonymous group "Hi, I'm Jess....and I'm addicted to bad food. It's been 56 days since I've gone to McDonald's" Maybe that's a little drastic sounding, but It is what it is.

The bad: I'm still ... Sat, 25 Feb 2012 08:24:58 EST Progress! It's only January 7th, but I'm already making some good progress on my goals for the year!

I've only had two cans of soda since Christmas, and none of those were at work.
