ANDY_54's SparkPeople Blog ANDY_54's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Things to do instead of snack Well, it's been a real week and it's only Wednesday! I needed some strategies to quit my (bad) habits. From what I've found, it seems to be all in the hands. If I keep them busy I do really well about not snacking my brains out. Here's what worked for me, so far:

1. Clean out a closet. Oh my, yes.

2. Go through clothes and house and donate to Goodwill. Try to go thru your husband’s clothes until he catches wind of it.

3. Dust the inside of the kitchen shelves.... Wed, 24 Apr 2013 19:57:54 EST Happy Earth Day! Happy Earth Day, everyone!

Reduce, reuse, recycle, restore, replenish, not only today, but everyday. Sat, 20 Apr 2013 20:38:48 EST 10 best songs about eating Another week has gone by! I don't really have anything to blog about tonight--I got my miles in this week, signed up for another 5K on 4 May, still struggling to put down the fork. That last thing about the fork got me to thinking--what are the 10 best songs about eating? Well, try these on for size:

1. "Alice's Restaurant" Arlo Guthrie Timeless classic. You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant. The song title was actually shortened, as the original was called: Alice’s... Fri, 19 Apr 2013 20:11:26 EST The embarrassment factor of running in public Shhh. I have a secret. I happen to like running on the treadmill for a couple of reasons and they are generally my right and my left knees. So my road running has been limited to a few jaunts with my pal Maggie the dog. But I found myself wondering why I just didn’t go on the road/trail/sidewalk more, because hey—my knees feel okay and all that fresh air is swell—and when I looked deep inside I found I was embarrassed to be out jogging my miles in *gasp* (insert voice of doom) "the public". S... Mon, 15 Apr 2013 14:25:05 EST Big Purple 5K recap Or as I like to call it: A big ole bag of endorphins. Because it was kind of awesome.

Breakfast of champions: 2 Motrin, 1 burnt blueberry Kashi waffle and a smidge of banana on the way out the door.

Weather: Gloomy 40 degrees, wind chill was 32. Brrr. Perfect running weather, once you got going.

Hunched over a map of downtown Dayton until about eleven last night—I hear a lot of snickers out there, but the city is experiencing about a ton of construction lat... Sat, 13 Apr 2013 15:27:29 EST A 5K race tomorrow…maybe I hesitate to use the word ‘race’. Although I’ll wear a numbered bib, I certainly won’t be breaking any land speed times. My training for the week went good, but if I coddle my foot--like I probably should--will end up walking more than running. Carbo-loaded on as many cookies as could be stuffed into my mouth. What? Cookies are no good? Well, I can’t argue that too much. I think I had some salads in there, too, just to round things out.

Approximate minutes spent worrying about thi... Fri, 12 Apr 2013 19:28:06 EST Basically... my life for the last few days. Sheesh.

Tue, 9 Apr 2013 08:30:12 EST The Hollywood Workout I have to mix it up on my strength days because my opinion of ST workouts is pretty much this:

So, I looked through my iPod, found a bunch of show tunes (and I fully admit that I found some I really didn't know I had, lol). Sun, 7 Apr 2013 20:15:45 EST Sun Tea and Friday Best thing about Friday? Other than you know--it's FRIDAY? The fact I have "0 calories left to burn for the week" according to the fitness tracker, *and* I still have a run scheduled for Saturday. That makes me a happy camper, or at least a consistent one in the workout department.

Know what is really the first sign of Spring at my house? Yep. Was in the store yesterday, and since I have to drive 35 minutes to get a stop light from my place in the planet, it was an 'event' for the day. In search of new running shoes, 'cause mine had gone flat. Not exactly worn out because I've used them mainly for treadmill workouts, just...flat feeling. So I tried inserts and they worked for a while but sometimes you just gotta buckle under and get another pair. Hence the trip to town.

Anyway, ahem. I searched high and low for my brand... Sun, 31 Mar 2013 11:26:39 EST Clown Cars Admittedly, this is nothing Spark-related as I'm trying to nurse a cranky knee and ankle along until my 5K in a couple of weeks. The farm operates by what the weather guy can dish out, but when there are no crops in the ground, watching the forecast becomes a sort of enjoyable activity, rather than a necessity. You all know I’m not a math person, by choice and by brain-wiring, however when you tackle making dinner or baking dessert, you need to have a smidge of insight. So let’s see, started in the kitchen around age 10 watching my mom make dinner, graduated to my grandmother’s kitchen to learn baking a year later (where she didn’t measure anything) and have been doing this on and off for several decades.
