ANDROMEDA1967's SparkPeople Blog ANDROMEDA1967's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community I haven't been addicted to fitness in 2 years... and it shows. I have gained 33 lbs over the past 2 years. I blame my job--actually I blame the new EMR (electronic medical records) system at my job that we got 2 years ago when my office was merged with another healthcare facility that already had this "lovely" EMR. It's the most user unfriendly EMR that I have ever encountered and it has resulted in my inability to get my work done in a timely manner. meaning, I am spending more time doing work than anything else including exercise. I ... Mon, 5 Jan 2015 06:18:42 EST Whatever you r New year's resolutions... may we all succeed and reach our goals in the new Year! Tue, 31 Dec 2013 17:48:51 EST Keeping Christmas It is a good thing to observe Christmas day. The mere marking of times and seasons
when men agree to stop work and make merry together, is a wise and wholesome
custom. It helps one to feel the supremacy of the common life over the individual life. It reminds a man to set his own little watch, now and then, by the great clock of humanity which runs on sun time.

But there is a better thing than the observance of Christmas day, and that is, keeping Christmas.

... Tue, 24 Dec 2013 17:55:20 EST Are you ready for Christmas? Tomorrow is Christmas. Are you ready? Likely there were many things you wanted to do in preparation before Christmas, but the time passed too quickly.

No matter. This is God's work. The coming of Jesus is God's personal act of entering our lives. Through the prophets, God promised it, and now God does it.

Like the Magi and like the angels, our response is simply to kneel in praise and to adore. This is our response to the birth of Christ. This is what we truly prepare fo... Tue, 24 Dec 2013 17:30:46 EST World Kindness Day Today is World KIndness Day (for real) ! Wed, 13 Nov 2013 06:15:29 EST Wake up call and motivation to get back on track
I had two people today who commented on my weight gain. My father's friend told me that I looked better before and my cousin asked if she could get my "old" clothes since they were too small for me (she asked me because I do have nice clothes and she needs something to wear to church). Now, I don't have any problems giving away clithes, but to presume that I will stay this way and NOT fit back into my clothes is annoying at best. I DO NOT INTEND to stay thid way forever! I did gain 2... Sat, 17 Aug 2013 20:23:22 EST better to be hot here... ...than in the hereafter!.. So said the priest at today's mass. How true! I don't want to complain about the heat too much because I know that , here in Upstate new York, it will be cold before we know it! Sat, 20 Jul 2013 11:07:20 EST Relay for Life 2013 I walked 26,666 steps between 6pm yesterday and 6 am today (8.83 miles) in the American cancer Society relay for Life. My team, St. Mary's Miracle Makers raised over $3000-double out total from last year!! What an achievement! I'm tired but I am staying up so I can go to the 8 am mass (I'm drinking black coffee and I hope and pray it keeps me awake!) Sat, 15 Jun 2013 06:37:07 EST Things happen for a reason Things happen for a reason. I just got cursed out by my friend because she just read my text that I wasn't coming for the graduation because my flight to Georgia got cancelled. Well, it turns out she was not expecting me because the graduation is NEXT WEEKEND! Go figure, this could only happen to me. Good thing the flight got cancelled. I would have been at the airport waiting for her to pick me up and she would have been at work Fri, 24 May 2013 13:49:43 EST When the going gets tough... I haven't done a lick of weight training this week (and I was only doing 10 minute blocks the weeks prior) and today was the first day in eon's that I used the nutrition tracker. I have been putting in a lot of time trying to get things cleaned up at work in preparation for vacation--which will consist of 2 weeks of stud... Hopefully, I will continue to go even when Lent is over and build up to actually attending daily mass. Of course, being new to this, I had to figure out where to go. Because the daily usually attracts a smaller crowd, it is said in a smaller chapel and not the main church. Thankfully, I saw some people I recognized and they led me ... Fri, 15 Feb 2013 20:31:29 EST So far, not impressed I recently (as in, over the weekend) bought the Zumba Exhilirate DVDs at Bed, Bath and Beyond. I had only done one live Zumba calss but have been waiting for DVDs to come out because I don't have the time to attentd classes. I have to say, I did sweat, but so far, I am really not impressed. Maybe it's because I am not doing the workout in a group and it's just me. Some of the cueing is late or nonexistent and the transitions are quick. Maybe i just need to get used to the choreograpohy. ... Wed, 5 Dec 2012 22:35:14 EST frustration with maps i spent most of friday and saturday driving to and from Philadelphia. The plan was to attend the funeral of my friend's father. I stayed overnight in a hotel in Philly and then drove to the church in Camden, NJ (which was only 2 iles away). Now, I have never been good with directions, so i had directions that I obtained from mapquest AND I had a GPS. Both led me to the same place--a lot full of trees and brush and nothing else. I drove around thinking I made a mistake. Arrived at the same... Sun, 11 Nov 2012 10:42:44 EST You know you need to lose weight when... split your pants at work. My weight has been up and down for the couple of months and, unfortunately for me, everytime I gain, it goes to my hip and thighs. Now, my pants truly did not feel tight on me today at all, but as i went to sit down, I heard a rip. Thankfully, I can keep my lab coat on and keep it covered. How embarrassing! Mon, 5 Nov 2012 15:52:06 EST My rear was in pain today And it wasn't from working out, unfortunately. I went to a catholic Wopmen's conference in Syracuse and spent the majority of the day sitting--sitting on the bus to get there, sitting at the conference and during mass, sitting on the way home. There were break periods where i did get up and walk but not enough. It got to the point that it almost hurt to sit down. I couldn't get comfortable. I took a walk (around my couch for 2 hours while reading--too cold and too lazy to go back outside)... Sat, 27 Oct 2012 22:46:08 EST Tighten the cap! I just paid over $10 for abottle of Miralax yesterday ( I've been feeling very bloated and irregular despite eating better). I took one dose yesterday. reached into the cabinert this morning and grabbed the bottle. The cap was loose, the bottle tipped and almost one third to one half of the content fells on some napkins and the floor. it was like a slow motion disaster. You can see what's going to happen but you aren't fast enough to stop it. I was able to salvage what fell on the napkin... Sun, 16 Sep 2012 06:57:55 EST Very disturbing Still trying to dela with my cold and I'm watching "Supersize Me" for the first time. I find it very distubing that 1st grade children knew who Ronald mcdonald was but not one of the children asked could identify a picture of Jesus. Seriously??? I know there are atheists in the world but what's the chance that every kid shown grows up in an atheistic home. And the fact that there are 88 McDonalds on the island of manhattan alone is incredible. This movie is an eyeopener! Sun, 2 Sep 2012 13:29:21 EST catching a cold for the holiday weekend I woke up fine but as the day went along, my throat became more scratchy. wasn' t tired when i got home (I actually was able to leave early, which rarely happens), but I laid down for a 30 minute nap and woke up 4 hours later when my beeper went off. needless to say, I'm wide awake now. Didn't get all my steps in, though. maybe tomorrow. I'm going to take some Nyquil and rub myself down with some Vicks! Goodnight! Thu, 30 Aug 2012 23:37:54 EST Diet overhaul After seeing another 2 lbs on the scale today, I have decided that i really need to get serious about what I am eating. I eat the fruits and veggies and bran in the am, but my diet is definitely not as clean as it should be. While i don't plan on giving up bread entirely, i do need to cur down on the calories and carbs, so i am limiting myself to 1600 cal/day. That's not drastic, trust me. i have more than enough reserve. I am going to refrain from the late night eating and snacking, beca... Mon, 20 Aug 2012 19:06:37 EST Sunday workout I actually woke up early and did the Supreme 90 cardio challenge BEFORE going to mass this morning. A Sunday workout is a major feat for me! I ususaally use Sunday as a day of rest but I had way too many rest (i.e. laziness) days during the week last week. I'll get back on track this week. Sun, 19 Aug 2012 10:21:42 EST Toss Away the "Could Haves" and "Should Haves" Day To me, this means tossing away the regrets of things I haven't done. I need to look toward the future and stop dwelling in the past. But it also says to me that I need to avoid a future of "could haves" and "should haves" . And that means, STOP PROCRASTINATING! "Procrastination results from an individual's short-sighted attempt to postpone temporary discomfort. What results is a senseless cycle of 1. delay, followed by 2. worry, followed by 3. a panicky and often futile attempt to "catch ... The relay started at 6: 45 pm yesterday and went all night. it wasn't what i expected at all. it wasn't just walking/running the track. Each team had a campsite and a table to sell raffles, baked good and children's crafts and face painting, all to keep raising money! There was food, entertainment and A MIDNIGHT ZUMBA CLASS! At the last minute, i decided to join my church's team at the American cancer Society's Relay for Life, which will take place later today. i had been thinking to myself that i need to do some different things and along came this opportunity.

It will definitely be different. First, it's an all night event, with different things scheduled until 5am!! I don't know if I will last that long. i tend to get delirious past my bed time. I'll let you know how it goes! Fri, 8 Jun 2012 14:11:36 EST I'm Baaack! I am back from a great week in Bolivia with my family. We went to visit my aunt who was celebrating her 50th anniversary as a nun (part of Missionaires de L'Imaculee Concepcion--Sisters of the Immaculate Conception). She's been in Bolivia for 2 years. My brother, my uncle and his wife went down to celebrate.

Of course, getting there wasn't easy and the problems started early on. We didn't realize until we had less than a month to go that we needed a visa. I have travelled to Germ... Sat, 19 May 2012 16:40:29 EST Law of the garbage truck One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport.
We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped

out of a parking space right in front of us.

My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the
other car by just inches! I thought it was appropriate for Lent:

"Nor did their own arms make them victorious; it was...the light of Your face, because you loved them." Ps 44:4

Reflection: God's love makes us victorious in the wars we fight within ourselves to be better Christians, and in the wars we fight against addictions, sin, bad habits. We cannot win them by ourselves. Calling upon God's love is our only winning strategy.... Sun, 26 Feb 2012 13:56:52 EST Tainted OJ Part 2 Back on jan 10, i wrote a blog on tainted OJ and how some of it is mixed with OJ from brazil. My brother was just reading an article to me on skype.

eezed-the-truth-about-orange-juice-in-
boxes/

The article is very enlightening and some of it I do recall hearing on the ABC new report in January. Sun, 26 Feb 2012 12:40:24 EST Joke I don't know why I didn't figure this out sooner.
I use shampoo in the shower and when I wash my hair,
the shampoo runs down my whole body.
Well, printed very clearly on the shampoo label is this warning,
“For Extra Volume and Body.” No wonder I have been gaining weight!
I have gotten rid of that shampoo and I am going to start showering
with Dawn dish soap instead.
That label reads, “Dissolves fat that is otherwise difficult to remove".

... Thu, 23 Feb 2012 06:01:29 EST Day 1 Fast from Complaining To complain: to express dissatisfaction, pain, uneasiness, censure, resentment, or grief; find fault:

Today was day 1 of my complaint from fasting. This was definitely a lot harder than I thought. especially when i realized how much I actually do complain. Unfortunately, I mentioned to one of the nurses at my job that I was fasting from complaining. Her first response was to laugh. Then she went on to count all the numerous times I would no longer be able to complain and whine --... Wed, 22 Feb 2012 21:20:03 EST God has saved me from my stupidty...again I hate insects! I hate insects! I hate insects! I have had these stupid little flies annoying me for the past several years and I don't know where they come from. initially, they seemed to die off during the winter and I got a few months of npeace. Well, not this year. i don't know know if it's the warm waehter that keeps them alive but they are everywhere--not in vast nnumbers, but enough to fill as least 5 everyday.

Well, that was my goal this morning as another little one was ma... Wed, 15 Feb 2012 05:47:50 EST Good from evil I'm reading the catechism of the catholic church and I came across the part discussing the presence of evil in the world--the age old question of "Why does it exist?" That question certanly came up this week in that horrific news about the father blowing up his home, killing himself and 2 very innocent children. "God is in no way, directly or indirectly, the cause of moral evil. He permits it, however, because he respects the freedom of his creatures..." I think most of us understand thi... Sat, 21 Jan 2012 11:27:44 EST Blame Someone Else Day Apparently, today is "Blame someone else day" on top of being the dreaded Friday the 13th. I personally think that happens WAY TOO OFTEN. I propose something new--why do we all try taking responsibility for our own actions! No one else to blame for my weight--I did it too my self. Example, I went out to dinner last night with a group to host a visiting doctor and indulged in appetizer AND dessert, in addition to dinner. net result--I effectively erased the weight I had lost in the middle of ... Fri, 13 Jan 2012 04:05:54 EST Tainted OJ First, i find out that a lot of out honey is imported, now I find out that 26% of our orange juice is also imported. What's going on?
I just saw the ABC news report on a chemical (a pesticide that is illegal to use in this country but ok in others) was found in some orange juice.
