ANA3400's SparkPeople Blog ANA3400's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Still not doing too well We now know what caused my blockage... Gastroparesis. My stomach is partially paralyzed. You can't cure gastroparesis. It's s side effect of my Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and is caused from nerve damage. It is likely to get worse with time, my doctor says. Scary. :( I'm now on a special low fiber, low fat diet. :( I really love vegetables but other than maybe mushrooms the only kind I'm allowed to eat now are canned and blended. And even then, in moderation. I'll figure this out but I imagine ... Sun, 27 Sep 2015 01:12:57 EST Not doing too well I haven't updated here in a bit but I haven't given up. My stomach problems wound up being a partial intestinal blockage caused by a new medicine I was taking. I'm on treatment for it but it's slow going and awful. :( No progress on my weight but trying to get as much exercise (and fiber) in as possible. I just wanted to update. Wed, 2 Sep 2015 14:44:22 EST August 12, 2015 Weigh in day! Yay! I'm excited to report that I am down 1.1 pounds this week, to 170.2! This has been a somewhat rough week physically, though. I started off with power walks that went really well and included a little jogging. Three days in I got a terrible blister though, and I had to avoid my power walks. I focused on Wii Fit and strength training with free weights since I had to be off my feet. Shortly after that, my husband and me BOTH came down with a stomach bug. I've managed to maint... Wed, 12 Aug 2015 12:05:41 EST 5-August-2015 Weigh in day! Last week I was 171.5 This week I was 171.3, so I am down .2 That's not a huge amount of weight but as long as the scale goes in the right direction I'm not too picky on how fast I get there. Just keep pushing towards my goal. :) I was actually expecting a gain this week because I usually go up a little bit when I increase my activity level. So even being down such a tiny amount is okay by me. I have more amazing progress news, though. Last night I jogged for the first time i... Wed, 5 Aug 2015 12:37:29 EST Amazing weekend! I had a really amazing weekend. Friday night my husband came home and we decided to go downtown for a festival that was going on. We wandered around downtown for about three and a half hours at our own pace, taking breaks when we needed to, etc. We went out to eat and I got a salad with no dressing (I like salad!). At the end of the night my pedometer told me I had gotten 12,000 steps! I really don't remember the last time I got so many. I was so excited!

On Saturday I felt brave e... Mon, 3 Aug 2015 11:13:28 EST 31 July 2015 I've really regrouped since weigh-in day and I've started putting in much more effort during my walks. I've been moving a lot more briskly despite this heat. I'm starting to figure out what my body can handle. It's tough finding that sweet spot that involves me pushing myself, but not so hard I get really sick or injured but I'm figuring it out. I work from home and I actually have a sit-down job, so I set up my Wii U yesterday so that if I wind up sitting for an hour I can get up and play a... Fri, 31 Jul 2015 11:54:52 EST July Weight & Measurements Damn. :( I guess this month just was not my month! ALL of my measurements went up, except for my neck which somehow lost a quarter inch. :( I also gained two pounds! I started the month off strongly with lots of swimming and walking. Unfortunately after my surgery my exercise has gone down a bit. I have been going for walks at night but I struggle to be as active as I was before during the day as I fight to get my energy back. I will just have to put pedal to the metal this next month. At l... Tue, 28 Jul 2015 12:13:37 EST 24 July 2015 My surgery to put in a power port waa rougher than expected. I spent three days on the couch (per my doctor's orders) and last night I went on my first walk since the surgery. It was really short (only about 1200 steps according to my pedometer) but I DID it. I'm going back out tonight and I hope I go a bit farther. Even though it was a minor surgery, it was still surgery, so I'm trying to be gentle with myself. Being gentle doesn't mean couch-locked though. And honestly, I'm bored as Hell of... Fri, 24 Jul 2015 11:14:03 EST Portacath I'm having surgery Monday morning to have a portacath put in so that my infisions for my POTS will be easier. My veins are totally shot. :( I'm a little nervous about the surgery but otherwise hoping it is a quick recovery so I can get back to my workouts asap. I'm going to try to get as much activity in as possible this weekend, too. Still hoping my weight and measurements are down at the end of the month. :) Fri, 17 Jul 2015 12:38:29 EST July 6 2015 About a week ago my husband and me bought passes at the local rec center for the pool for a month. It is open until 8:30 most nights, so this has been a great way to get in a bit more activity indoors when it is too stormy (we get a lot of lightning and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evenings here). Plus, it's fun! I look forward to my weigh in and measurements at the end of the month. I've been able to be so much more active that I'm sure that it'll be a good one. :) Mon, 6 Jul 2015 12:13:59 EST June weight and measurements Since I still am really not losing much weight I decided to switch to monthly weigh ins and measurements, until I get off my steroid, anyway. I have no idea when that will be.

Anyway, this month was good. Down 2 pounds to 169.5 :)

My measurements all either went down or stayed the same, which is the best kind of month, I say!

Waist and upper arm were both the same.

Hips were down 1 inch to 46, Bust was down .5 inches to 40.5, and thighs were down ... Wed, 24 Jun 2015 12:47:03 EST 12 June 2015 My weight is up 2.4 pounds this week to 170.6 that is some discouraging stuff. :( Nothing changed this week except the fact that I'm drinking pedialyte instead of water now, per my doctor's orders. I wonder if I'm putting on watet weight. Nothing to do except try even harder next week. Fri, 12 Jun 2015 11:40:26 EST 5 June 2015 No weigh in this week, thanks to TOM. But I did have a pretty good week. Thursdays are grocery nights in this house and I didn't need to use my wheelchair at all this week. I do admit, that I did have a very hard time in the last store and needed a scooter (which is a LITTLE better than a wheelchair, because if I get too sick I can't even sit up and drive one of those, and need to be manually pushed by someone else). I went home and was moderately light headed all night. Thursdays are near ... Fri, 5 Jun 2015 12:09:09 EST I walked 3 Miles Yesterday I have no idea when the last time I managed that all at once was. Definitely not within the last year. After I got my infusion Saturday morning I had so much energy that I walked with my husband. We thought I would walk down one or two streets as has been my cap the past few months. But no. We walked down three streets until we came to a PARK we didn't know was there. (We usually take a turn a street or two before it when driving and we only moved here in Oct so we are still discovering thing... Mon, 1 Jun 2015 11:03:02 EST Changing My Weigh In Day I've been weighing in on Wed mornings, but since I have started weekly IV treatments for my POTS I have decided to move my weigh in day to Friday. I go for treatment Saturdays so I should be less water-logged on Friday. I seem to start the week weighing the most and then as the week goes on the water weight slowly backs off. I think this will make me less frustrated overall and give me a more accurate idea of how my weight loss is coming verses how much weight the fluid loading is putting on ... Fri, 29 May 2015 11:17:39 EST May Measurements My upper arm is the same this month as last.

My thigh is the same too.

I'm down 3" in my waist! (Holy crumbs. How did I manage that??)

I am down 1" in my bust.

And, starting this month I just decided to measure my neck too, so we will see where that is next month.

The only measurement I was unhappy with was my hip measurement. I was up 1". But, everything else is smaller or the same so I'm pretty happy with this month.

Yeste... Thu, 28 May 2015 12:38:50 EST 5-27-2014 170.2 Up 1.5 pounds this week, which is just depressing. :( I have starting weekly potassium and saline IVs to increase blood volume to help my POTS. I get 2 liters of fluid every week which is about 4.5 pounds of fluid. I probably only went up this week because of that, but still. I've only gone up since joining spark (and it has nothing to do with Spark itself,) but still, depressing. I just want to see the scale start going down. I am embarassed and ashamed of my size. All of this flu... Wed, 27 May 2015 11:58:45 EST 20 May 2015 Weigh In I'm 168.7 this week which is down .8 from last week! Yay! That is the right direction! :) Last week was the first time in months that I have been able to exercise. I did five minutes of strength training per day last week. I pick one exercise and do it for the entire five minutes. That way I really am sore and tired the next day, so I know it is working. :) I have also been walking more. I don't have any goals for walking yet because I am just thinking of it as a bonus while I work on streng... Wed, 20 May 2015 13:07:35 EST May 13 2015 I weighed in the exact same as last week which is a victory! I had food poisoning too, which makes it an extra awesome victory. :) Starting tomorrow, I'll begin adding five mins of strength training per day. I'm SO excited to be medically cleared to exercise even a little bit again. 5 minutes may seem like nothing, but it isn't. Only nothing is nothing. Tomorrow I will start at level zero. It's a start! Wed, 13 May 2015 17:44:16 EST 5-6-2015 Start weight: 168.7 Last Weight: 169.3 Current Weight: 169.5 Well, I'm up another .2, which is okay for a maintain. It's still up, but not by much. Friday I should be able to increase my medicine one last time! Which means about a week after that I should be able to start coming down again. I can't wait to see the scale come down. About another week of maintaining to go. :) Wed, 6 May 2015 11:59:15 EST End of the month weigh in AND measurements! Start Weight: 168.7
Last weight: 167.8
Current Weight: 169.3

Good news as well as "bad" this week, but for me the good is winning out. :)

First off, the "bad". Not that it is all that bad either, but. This month my goal was to maintain my weight. I am still in the process of increasing my medicine and trying to keep my potassium stable, so I am unable to workout still. The medicine I take makes me hold onto water so my weight is constantly fluxuating. This mont... Wed, 29 Apr 2015 13:24:45 EST Rough Week Start weight: 168.7
Last weight: 168.2
Current weight: 167.8

This was a really rough week for me physically. I wound up in the emergency room last week because of my POTS last Wed night. I felt really awful for a few days after that. We did increase my medicine for it and I felt like I had a bit more energy the past two days. I'm hoping that today, day three, has me with as much energy. It has been nice not needing my wheelchair these past two days. A minor bit of progres... Wed, 22 Apr 2015 12:14:23 EST Weigh In Day It's technically weigh in day, but I never weigh in during my period (talk about instant discouragement), so I'll instead talk about a couple victories this week.

I've been able to cook a bit more. On Sunday I made a couple of dishes I could easily reheat this week for when I wasn't feeling too well. It was so good to be able to stand for a bit and do something worthwhile. :) I've had to use my wheelchair a bit more, because my potassium dropped again, but I'm working on gettin... Wed, 15 Apr 2015 15:11:02 EST 8 April 2015 SW: 168.7
CW: 168.2

Today is my weigh in day. As of last week I decided I needed to try to maintain until I got my electrolytes squared away. This was the first week where I didn't do ANY exercise aside from my normal daily walking around the house or on errands, as tolerated. I did keep good track of my calories but since I had a bit more chocolate than I usually do (thank you, Easter!), I expected a gain. Lo and behold I stepped on the scale this morning and I was down a hal... Wed, 8 Apr 2015 11:56:51 EST 1 April 2015 It's my weekly weigh in day. SW: 168.4 CW: 168.7 Progress is slow. I have been diligently eating in my calorie range, but my weight has gone back up again. This is due to two things. 1) The medicine I am slowly increasing that helps me retain water for my POTS (Dysautonomia) went up again this week, so I know I am holding onto more water, that is the whole point of the pill! I'm only half way to the dose me and my doc are working up to so I still have a ways to go. 2) My electrolytes are ... Wed, 1 Apr 2015 12:22:33 EST Measurement Day #1 I decided to measure myself at the end of every month. As of today my waist is down one full inch. Yay! My waist is 42" now.

I don't know why but at the beginning of the month I only measured my waist. I measured my hips, thigh and upper arm this morning and I'll start tracking those as well. My weight is also starting to slowly creep downwards. (Minus one pound!)

Yay! Small victories. 7 Sat, 28 Mar 2015 12:45:24 EST Up 1.9 pounds :( I started Spark two weeks ago. Week one I started tracking my calories and activity, and I was down almost a pound in the first week. Day five or so, my weight started to go up a bit, then I got my period. My food and activity stayed the same.

I weigh in today, and I was up AGAIN.. Now I'm at 169.5 which is a total of 1.9 pounds! I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, because as I said I have been in my calorie range every day, and I'm eating plenty of fruits and vegetables.
<B... Wed, 25 Mar 2015 13:05:36 EST I'm Ana I used to be on here a few years ago but I got very sick and gained nearly twenty pounds in the last year from being on bed rest. I have two chronic and debilitating conditions that make maintaining my weight very difficult. Much of the time I am unable to sit up and when I can it is for minutes at a time only.

Despite this I have researched some exercises on YouTube that can be done sitting in a chair and I've been giving it my all spending as much time as possible lately trying t...
