Since being diagnosed with gastroparesis I've been steadily loosing weight due to my inability to eat properly. I'm extremely nauseous much of the time and many foods aggravate that. While weight loss is good, losing weight due to illness is not healthy (obviously). I just have different goals now and I'm striving to maintain rather than to lose. I don't have much choice in what I eat and when now... Fri, 27 Nov 2015 20:06:15 EST Still not doing too well We now know what caused my blockage... Gastroparesis. My stomach is partially paralyzed. You can't cure gastroparesis. It's s side effect of my Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and is caused from nerve damage. It is likely to get worse with time, my doctor says. Scary. :( I'm now on a special low fiber, low fat diet. :( I really love vegetables but other than maybe mushrooms the only kind I'm allowed to eat now are canned and blended. And even then, in moderation. I'll figure this out but I imagine ... Sun, 27 Sep 2015 01:12:57 EST Not doing too well I haven't updated here in a bit but I haven't given up. My stomach problems wound up being a partial intestinal blockage caused by a new medicine I was taking. I'm on treatment for it but it's slow going and awful. :( No progress on my weight but trying to get as much exercise (and fiber) in as possible. I just wanted to update. Wed, 2 Sep 2015 14:44:22 EST August 12, 2015 Weigh in day! Yay! I'm excited to report that I am down 1.1 pounds this week, to 170.2! This has been a somewhat rough week physically, though. I started off with power walks that went really well and included a little jogging. Three days in I got a terrible blister though, and I had to avoid my power walks. I focused on Wii Fit and strength training with free weights since I had to be off my feet. Shortly after that, my husband and me BOTH came down with a stomach bug. I've managed to maint... Last week I was 171.5 This week I was 171.3, so I am down .2 That's not a huge amount of weight but as long as the scale goes in the right direction I'm not too picky on how fast I get there. I had a really amazing weekend. Friday night my husband came home and we decided to go downtown for a festival that was going on. We wandered around downtown for about three and a half hours at our own pace, taking breaks when we needed to, etc. We went out to eat and I got a salad with no dressing (I like salad!). Fri, 31 Jul 2015 11:54:52 EST July Weight & Measurements Damn. :( I guess this month just was not my month! ALL of my measurements went up, except for my neck which somehow lost a quarter inch. :( I also gained two pounds! I started the month off strongly with lots of swimming and walking. I spent three days on the couch (per my doctor's orders) and last night I went on my first walk since the surgery. It was really short (only about 1200 steps according to my pedometer) but I DID it. I'm going back out tonight and I hope I go a bit farther. Even though it was a minor surgery, it was still surgery, so I'm trying to be gentle with myself. Being gentle doesn't mean couch-locked though. And honestly, I'm bored as Hell of... Fri, 24 Jul 2015 11:14:03 EST Portacath I'm having surgery Monday morning to have a portacath put in so that my infisions for my POTS will be easier. My veins are totally shot. :( I'm a little nervous about the surgery but otherwise hoping it is a quick recovery so I can get back to my workouts asap. I'm going to try to get as much activity in as possible this weekend, too. Still hoping my weight and measurements are down at the end of the month. :) Fri, 17 Jul 2015 12:38:29 EST July 6 2015 About a week ago my husband and me bought passes at the local rec center for the pool for a month. It is open until 8:30 most nights, so this has been a great way to get in a bit more activity indoors when it is too stormy (we get a lot of lightning and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evenings here). Plus, it's fun! I look forward to my weigh in and measurements at the end of the month. But I did have a pretty good week. Thursdays are grocery nights in this house and I didn't need to use my wheelchair at all this week. Definitely not within the last year. After I got my infusion Saturday morning I had so much energy that I walked with my husband. We thought I would walk down one or two streets as has been my cap the past few months. But no. We walked down three streets until we came to a PARK we didn't know was there. Mon, 1 Jun 2015 11:03:02 EST Changing My Weigh In Day I've been weighing in on Wed mornings, but since I have started weekly IV treatments for my POTS I have decided to move my weigh in day to Friday. I go for treatment Saturdays so I should be less water-logged on Friday. I seem to start the week weighing the most and then as the week goes on the water weight slowly backs off. I think this will make me less frustrated overall and give me a more accurate idea of how my weight loss is coming verses how much weight the fluid loading is putting on ... Thu, 28 May 2015 12:38:50 EST 5-27-2014 170.2 Up 1.5 pounds this week, which is just depressing. :( I have starting weekly potassium and saline IVs to increase blood volume to help my POTS. I get 2 liters of fluid every week which is about 4.5 pounds of fluid. I probably only went up this week because of that, but still. I've only gone up since joining spark (and it has nothing to do with Spark itself,) but still, depressing. I just want to see the scale start going down. I am embarassed and ashamed of my size. That is the right direction! :) Last week was the first time in months that I have been able to exercise. I did five minutes of strength training per day last week. I pick one exercise and do it for the entire five minutes. That way I really am sore and tired the next day, so I know it is working. :) I have also been walking more. I don't have any goals for walking yet because I am just thinking of it as a bonus while I work on streng... I had food poisoning too, which makes it an extra awesome victory. :) Starting tomorrow, I'll begin adding five mins of strength training per day. I'm SO excited to be medically cleared to exercise even a little bit again. 5 minutes may seem like nothing, but it isn't. Only nothing is nothing. Tomorrow I will start at level zero. It's a start!
