AMANDA_C's SparkPeople Blog AMANDA_C's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Migraine, migraine please stay away! So I started the week with a killer migraine, and it lasted for seriously 3 days! It finally went away & I was lazy for the next day or two - trying to savor the fact I didn't want to kill myself or others! So needless to say I did NOTHING all week - probably a good break since I also had no chest tightening anxiety in that time! Hopefully I can get back to doing stuff this week - starting with a walk tomorrow morning! Sun, 12 Aug 2012 23:37:42 EST What's new? So for the past couple of months I've been having AWFUL headaches about every 10 to 14 days....and chest tightness. Unfortunately this has lead to almost completely stopping exercising and has definitely lead to some poor eating. Thankfully through it all I only gained 3 pounds - 3 pounds that have now disappeared!

I finally decided to go to the doctor to see if there was anything that could be done about the headaches and chest tightness - knowing full well that there may not ... Tue, 7 Aug 2012 19:42:27 EST July already July is here already......

My June goals were primarily not met....but I tried & I feel good about that. Unfortunately not as good as I would have liked...

I'm not sure if I'll set July goals or not....but I do want to start a tracking (nutrition) streak. Tracking even if I completely go over my calories. Mon, 2 Jul 2012 07:57:02 EST Spinach for breakfast and dinner?? I found a new recipe in a Fitness magazine (a gift subscription from someone....but I have NO idea who...) that I wanted to try so I tried it this morning. Skillet Hash with Spinach....I had to make a few tweaks since I didn't have the exact correct ingredients. Basically though it was red skin potatoes with spinach, peppers, onions, and some spices topped with cheese. To be honest, other than in salads on occasion, I've never really tried spinach, so the fact that I even thought this soun... Sun, 24 Jun 2012 20:10:48 EST More strength training than cardio....REALLY?? I have ALWAYS done more cardio than ST. I have just never enjoyed or wanted to do ST. I have only ever enjoyed (even if only mildly) cardio. Walking primarily but I was in Marching Band in High School and I LOVED that cardio. I used to enjoy riding my bike (need a helmet to start again - at least if my kids see me) and I used to mildly enjoy playing around in the pool (hated the water in my eyes/over my head). I have NEVER wanted anything to do with ST, ever. No weights, no bodyweight t... Wed, 20 Jun 2012 21:59:25 EST Resetting.... I stepped on the scale at my mom's the past (roughly) 6 weeks I have GAINED 3 pounds. While I'm not thrilled about this gain, and I have changed my official (for tracking purposes) weight loss goal, I am not terribly upset by this gain, because I am still losing inches and it took 6 weeks to gain 3 least it was only 3 pounds.

So tomorrow I will be resetting my body and routine. I will be "exercising" while getting groceries. I plan to walk up and down ea... Sun, 17 Jun 2012 21:01:15 EST just checking in.... Not much to report today - totally binged tonight but I did awesome all day today so I only ended up about 200 or so over my calorie range. Still not awesome but for a binge I'm not too upset.

Start again tomorrow right???

Each day we have to option to restart & learn from yesterday. Thu, 14 Jun 2012 21:16:47 EST What do you mean you don't carry clothes small enough for me??? ***Warning: Guys might not want to read this....but girls will totally understand!***

Last night I went to Lane Bryant for new bras and undies. I knew I needed a smaller bra so I asked to be fitted because I had NO idea where to start anymore. Prior to this weight loss/healthy life style journey I was wearing a 40B/42B, but I was currently wearing those on the tightest hook possible and kept having to adjust it all day long. When the sales person was done measuring me I was SHOC... Wed, 13 Jun 2012 10:42:44 EST I'm so glad tomorrow is a new day.... So far my June goals have been a big fail....mostly. Blogging has been good and adductions/abductions have been good but nutrition has been AWFUL! Unfortunately it's "that time of the month" & I've noticed that since I changed medications (birth control) all I do is EAT! Luckily my tastes have changed & I'm eating more fruits or protein/cliff bars or a small handful of nuts/trailmix, but seriously I don't think I've stopped eating ALL DAY! Anything & everything I can find! I totally blew m... Thu, 7 Jun 2012 21:39:32 EST Need to get back to running.... In March & April I was doing very well with running, and I rather enjoyed it. Then I got bronchitis in early May and had to stop running while I recovered....breathing while standing up was hard enough, much less breathing while running.

I want to re-start running (again), but I just can't seem to get the energy to do so....walking has been no problem, working out my wii has been no problem, strength training has gotten alot better than it was before, but running has eluded me....... Wed, 6 Jun 2012 10:44:28 EST June goals I decided on my June goals yesterday but didn't blog them.....evidently I was a bit tired - went to bed about 7pm.

Drink six 8 ounce glasses of water each day (I had been trying to hit 8, but fell short often)
Do 3 sets of 15 adductions & abductions 3 days per week (increase as able)
Do coach Nicole's seated core workout OR coach Nicole's seated resistance band workout 3 days per week
Do cardio 4 days per week
Post blog entry 3 days per week
Stay within my ... Mon, 4 Jun 2012 14:06:41 EST Thinking about June goals I don't generally set monthly goals, but I think I'm going to start & I think I'm going to track them with sparkstreaks.....but I'm trying to think of realistic & attainable goals. Something I need to work at, but can succeed if I work at it....

I'm thinking about:
6 glasses (8oz) of water daily
3 blogs a week
3 days of adductions & abductions per week (3 sets of 15 reps to start)
3 days of Coach Nicoles 20 min resistance band OR seated core workout per week <B... Fri, 1 Jun 2012 23:31:37 EST Horrible three's make a mama cry... Yesterday I literally came home from work & fell asleep watching tv with my hubby - so no blog for me! But it was a great day. My oldest went in for his 3 year checkup, then off to school (daycare). After dropping him off my little guy & I went for a nice long walk - he loved waving & blowing kisses to everyone! I kept telling him I liked going for walks with him & he'd say "dada"....evidently he likes walking with dada too. Seriously, my 3 year old is killing me! This morning he had 2 ta... Thu, 31 May 2012 12:38:35 EST Tuesday 5/29/12 Not a whole lot to report today - but I need to make bloging more of a daily (or every other day) activity to keep myself accountable.

My poor little guy has hand-foot-and-mouth (blisters on his feet - thankfully not in his mouth), which makes me feel bad for him, but he was SO happy to see me when I got home from work (hubby stayed home with him). Seeing how excited my boys are to see me is just the most amazing feeling ever! Maybe deep down inside they are a part of my reason ... Tue, 29 May 2012 21:50:15 EST Memorial Day 5K Today my family & I walked or ran or rode in a 5K in my husband's hometown. My 3 year old was so excited to run with mama today, unfortunately since I took about 10 days to 2 weeks off of running I wasn't overly excited about running with him - we had signed up to walk, but he insisted on "running with mama". Even more sadly, he took a tumble on the asphalt very early in the race so he ended up riding in the double stroller with our 19 month old. My husband then decided to run with the guy... Mon, 28 May 2012 21:54:26 EST I'm back....I hope After bronchitis, a sinus infection and a mild ear infection, a wonderful Mother's Day dinner, and my son's birthday party I finally got back on track....I hope! Sunday, Monday and today my husband and I went for a nice long walk - not quite to my 5K training schedule I had been following, but still moving again! Today was the first day in a while that I've tracked what I've eaten and stayed within my ranges - I had been doing pretty well at tracking, but poorly at staying in range.
... Tue, 22 May 2012 20:05:29 EST My first 5K!!

My first 5K run/walk was this morning. The 5th/3rd Riverbank Run in Grand Rapids, Michigan (where I live). My goal was to run/walk it in 50 minutes or there about. Since I had to take a week off of training I wanted to make sure I had a realistic goal, and I didn't want to put too much pressure on myself to go all out and then have a coughing fit and have to drop out (still getting over bronchitis). I did it in... Sat, 12 May 2012 20:51:00 EST Am I better yet???? I'm so sick of being sick! I've been out of comission for a week now. The doctor said I have bronchitis - she gave me meds, but unfortunately they take time to work..... Now I understand meds pretty well and I know that I have to be patient for them to cure me, but I'm sick and tired of being sick & tired!! Seems like all I do is cough & sleep. My hubby & I agree with the doctor, that I shouldn't try to do too much too soon, but I hate feeling so "lazy". I know that I'm not being lazy, I... Mon, 7 May 2012 20:49:29 EST best NSV yet! Today I saw my best NSV yet - I went to put on my size 20 pants that I've been wearing for a LONG while now - atleast 18 months (since my little guy was born) and they were so big that they almost fell right off without being unzipped! My hips kept them from falling all the way off, but how cool is that NSV???? Of course I still wore them today - just cinched the belt a bit tighter! This is obviously also my thankful-ness post for the day! Fri, 27 Apr 2012 22:08:46 EST Being Thankful.... Today I am thankful for many things....for my family (again & always), for my coworkers, for my mom, and for my ability to choose how/what/when to eat - even if they aren't always the correct choice, I can choose. Wed, 25 Apr 2012 22:29:57 EST I WILL do it! So I've had a rough couple of weeks....just bad eating, lack of "progress" with the scale, etc. However I am proud to say that I haven't gained any weight in those couple of weeks - probably due to continuing to workout decently. The workouts probably weren't as good as they should have been - ok definitely weren't as good as they should have been, but I am SO excited that I didn't just quit.

Yesterday my family and I went to my in-laws for dinner and to visit with a sister-in-l... Mon, 23 Apr 2012 21:05:53 EST A day without tracking So since it was Easter & "that time of the month" - almost, I decided to see how well/poorly I could do without tracking my that doesn't mean that I didn't still do fitness or count my glasses of water, but tried to make healthier decisions at dinner without counting the calories. I think I did decent....more green beans and carrots than mac n'cheese. Angel food cake instead of chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. I still think I ended up WAY over on the calories & I definit... Sun, 8 Apr 2012 18:43:17 EST Hello April! I can't believe April is here already!

Yesterday my brother and mom came over and helped us build a new swingset "playground" for our two little guys. They LOVE it! I'm so excited for warmer spring and summer weather to be aroudn regularly and spend time out there with my guys.

Tomorrow starts week 4 of my 5K training program and I'm a bit nervous. I know that I will continue to do the best I can, but my right knee, just below the knee cap but not down into my cal... Sun, 1 Apr 2012 18:44:53 EST Progress.... So I did W2D1 of my training on Monday and it was kind of pathetic - couldn't even finish the running portion....I still walked for a good 45 minutes, but I was disappointed that I couldn't finish the running. Then I played on the wii, just because I was bored and saw that I had only lost 1 pound in 2 weeks! Kind of disappointed again....

sister-in-law posted this picture of my kids on facebook Monday night and I thought "wow - look at those legs!" when I saw it. (FYI: t... Wed, 21 Mar 2012 20:52:31 EST what a beautiful day! Today was BEAUTIFUL!! I can't believe that it was basically 80 degrees on St Patricks day in Michigan!

I got my W1D3 rookie running training in today & LOVED it. Well mostly. It was still a bit painful (ok so sore is a better word) during the running portion & I had some technology problems with my music, but being outside, enjoying the beautiful morning before our festivities started. The running was easier than prior days & I look forward to it continuing to get easier. <... Sat, 17 Mar 2012 21:20:58 EST 5K Your Way Rookie Running Training Today was Week 1 Day 2 of my training. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical at first, but I really wanted to try something new and I had been playing around with little jogs on the treadmill every so often, just to see where I was at. But I really have enjoyed the 2 days of wogging (walk/jogging) that I've been doing. Plus, it seriously burns WAY more calories than just walking! But also since it's been so nice out, I've been walking to the park that's about a 3.5 to 4 minute walk away f... Thu, 15 Mar 2012 09:24:43 EST Monday... So today was the day I planned to start the rookie running program....however we decided to make a last minute trip out of town. And it rained in Kalamazoo so I couldn't run outside & mom doesn't have a treadmill. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't do any workout today...but had a blast with my family, mom , & brother.

Sometimes the company we keep is just as important as the workouts we get in - my mom is wonderful for my self esteem & self confidence - she is so proud of ... Mon, 12 Mar 2012 23:00:13 EST 16 pounds down!!! I can't believe that I've lost 16 pounds! I was in a bit of shock yesterday when I found out. I thought after my rough week last week I'd have not lost, or possibly gained a bit, but no - I lost more!

I'm so excited. I can now wear pants that had been hanging in my closet just waiting for me. I can now wear my wedding rings again! (my husband loves that). I am less weight now than I was before I got pregnant with either of my children (my oldest will be 3 in May).

... Thu, 8 Mar 2012 20:50:02 EST Mild falling off the wagon I'm so glad my little guy is feeling better!!! Unfortunately while he was feeling poorly I was so exhausted that simply taking care of him, the older brother, my hubby and working wore me out big time. Thankfully my hubby is awesome and helps with a ton of the house stuff. Now that little guy is feeling better and I got a good night's sleep last night and a good rest this morning due to my incredibly sore back I am going to get back on the wagon!

I'm so glad that he is feeling... Mon, 5 Mar 2012 13:59:21 EST Some encouragement needed... So my kitchen is a mess, my laundry room is a mess, my livingroom is a fitness goals are a mess, my eating habits are all over this week...what is going on here?!?

I suppose it might be related to my little guy (16months) being sick - again. He is now on ear infection #4 of 2012....yes you read that correctly #4 of 2012. He just got tubes in his ears LAST week and we already have ANOTHER ear infection! I know I shouldn't blame my little man for everything being a mess ... Thu, 1 Mar 2012 22:35:46 EST Jogging/running help needed! So tonight during my treadmill time I finally got up the nerve to attempt running. Ok so it was really just jogging, but I finally tried! I took some advice & tried just doing 30 seconds to a minute intervals (Thanks Jen!) And it went pretty decent. I think I made it 3 intervals of 45 seconds - I know not great compared to all you runners out there, but a start just the same. However my shins hurt while jogging...anyone have ideas how to help them? After the jog interval they calmed down ... Tue, 28 Feb 2012 22:24:34 EST Thursday SUCKED! But then it ended. So Thursday morning started off just fine....until I got out of bed.

First the kids (ages 1 and 2) decided to wake us up at 545am. They hadn't done that in a couple of months so that was a bit surprising. I always have so much fun with them in the morning - probably in part becuase I miss them so much at night when I'm working. But for some reason my 1 year old was not in a great mood, he got mad about something - who knows what?!?! - and head-butted me in the nose. Now serio... Fri, 24 Feb 2012 18:49:19 EST 12 pounds down... Having a scale that is "broken" (see earlier blog - I refuse to be chained to a scale and won't buy new batteries for it), I saw today my weight for the first time in about a week - on my wii fit. Of course I could have taken the body test on the wii fit earlier, but again, I refuse to be chained to the scale. I'm down 12 pounds from when I started, and I admit that I'm a bit bummed about that. Now I know that 12 pounds is great and I'm really happy with it, but just as I get into a good "... Fri, 17 Feb 2012 21:46:13 EST Man do I have energy to burn!!! I'm sure everyone that reads this will say one of two things at the end: "duh, I could have told you that" or "yeah right". I admit I was in the second category prior to this past weekend. I've belonged to SP for less that a month (barely), and I have been slow to get fully "on-board" because it can be slightly overwhelming...All the recipes, the food changes, the fitness changes/additions to everyday life, the articles to read, the message boards, the teams, etc, etc, etc....

Bu... Mon, 6 Feb 2012 20:14:43 EST Wii fit for a workout?? Whoever thought up the Wii fit is a genius! Tonight to change up my workout attempts (I'm still learning to enjoy working out) I decided to try our Wii fit. Although I didn't score many points or beat any of my husband's scores I feel sore all over! I'm not even sure how that happened. I LOVED the step aerobics and the run (which is saying alot since I hate running!). The balance games are so fun, yet man do my legs hurt from trying to squat enough for the ski junps! I will for sure add ... Sat, 4 Feb 2012 23:09:34 EST Time to set some mini-goals & rewards.... So I've been thinking about my ultimate weight loss goal & I'm confident that I will be able to meet it (or the backup goal), but to help me along the way I want to come up with some mini-goals & of course rewards for meeting them...but I'm not sure what they should be.

I really like the idea of using money as a reward, because there are a couple things I want - like the Spark cookbook. But I don't want to set so many mini-goals that I'm meeting one every day. Any ideas here would... Mon, 30 Jan 2012 03:20:13 EST
