ALLIBEAR77's SparkPeople Blog ALLIBEAR77's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community What a difference a day makes Yesterday I was feeling really "blah" after weighing in at my highest weight in over a year. But with just one day of renewing my good habits, I lost three pounds! Now, I know I didn't really "lose three pounds" in one day, and I know the number on the scale is only one small part of our health. But I'm reminded of how much better my body feels when I eat light and healthy and drink lots of water. I even had dessert, but it was two small cookies, not six, LOL My late-night snack was the veggi... Tue, 18 Mar 2014 09:35:12 EST Another Monday... ...another day of saying "this is the week I get back on track!". My weight is continuing to creep up; 8 pounds in the three months since I hit my lowest weight. Never did reach my goal weight yet. Mom gave me a new blender, and I'm enjoying my fresh strawberry smoothie for lunch. Here's hoping for a good re-boot week! Mon, 17 Mar 2014 13:02:55 EST Big running day My "good deeds" today...went for a 15 mile run this morning, and...wait, do I really need to do more after that? OK, I also drank my 8 glasses of water (I keep a 2L jug in the fridge to keep track). I almost never drink enough.

Three weeks until my 30km (around 18 miles) race. I am feeling ready, despite the cold and snow holding me back from training to my full potential. Sat, 8 Mar 2014 21:52:16 EST One year of weight maintenance The month of March brings me to one full year of maintaining my weight at under 140 pounds, and being right in the middle of my healthy BMI range. I have yet to reach my goal of getting under 130 pounds, and I am starting to accept that I might never get there. I feel like I'm already leading a very healthy lifestyle, and I'm not interested in any magic pills or wraps or whatever else my facebook friends are trying to sell me, that might work temporarily but then the weight comes right back a... Thu, 6 Mar 2014 02:13:32 EST Today's good deeds 1. Had a healthy breakfast (homemade muffin, an orange, black coffee)
2. Ran 3 miles
3. Surpassed FitBit goals
4. Did not eat pancakes (heck, I'm not even a Christian! I just love an excuse to eat pancakes!) Tue, 4 Mar 2014 21:17:53 EST Health journal: Day One I feel like I'm right on the edge of gaining back the weight, so I've decided to start focusing more on my healthy choices, to keep myself thinking positive. Day One!

1. Instead of a sweet latte and a piece of cake, I chose regular coffee and a scone.
2. I'm re-starting my goal of drinking lots of water. A 2-liter jug will be in the fridge, filled every morning, and I aim to drink it all by the end of the day. Sun, 2 Mar 2014 17:36:03 EST So out of shape! I have been running like crazy, thinking that was keeping me in shape, but of course, I was wrong. My cross-training/weight-training has been non-existent for a few months. This weekend I started a new program (training for the Tough Mudder race), and I could not believe how out-of-shape I felt. Today was better than yesterday, but I definitely have a lot of work to do. I haven't signed up yet, but I'm thinking about doing a Tough Mudder race this summer. By the way, the training program they... Sun, 26 Jan 2014 13:05:35 EST One year on SparkPeople! One year has flown by already! I did not quite meet my weight-loss goal, but overall I've been eating healthy and keeping active. I got injured just a few weeks short of my half-marathon, which taught me to never take my mobility for granted. I still ran the race (much slower than I planned, but I finished!), and I've been working on getting my speed back. I've kept running, even through this horrible winter weather. My new goal is to lose 10 pounds over the next six months, which seems compl... Sun, 5 Jan 2014 13:14:14 EST So close! Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with the progress I've made. But every time I get close to my final goal-weight, it creeps back up. I don't consider it a "yo-yo"; my weight is only varying within around a 5-pound range, which I know is very normal. But it never gets down quite where I want it. I do see a pattern; as soon as I get within three or four pounds of my goal, I start to slack off a bit. Losing a couple of pounds seems like no problem, but then the weight creeps up and all of a su... Mon, 18 Nov 2013 13:00:58 EST The "new" SP calorie tracker I have noticed a huge increase in calories allowed since switching to the "new" system on Spark People. Around 500 extra calories per day! I am very hesitant to eat that much more food. On the other hand, yesterday was a huge "cheat" day for me, but I still was in my new range. It's amazing how my idea of a "cheat" day has changed in the past year. I now consider it to be a day of overeating if I go above 2000 calories. I used to exercise like crazy and not make any progress. Now I see how al... Thu, 1 Aug 2013 15:15:06 EST FitBit day one My FitBit arrived today! Even though I only had it half a day so far, I actually reached my goals for steps and miles pretty easily. I also synced it to my SP fitness tracker and changed to the "new" calorie-tracking system. I was surprised by how many more calories are now recommended for me...I don't know if I want to increase my calorie intake that much (about 500 extra calories per day. That's crazy!) My old range was 1200-1500, which I thought was reasonably challenging but attainable fo... Wed, 31 Jul 2013 22:11:00 EST Finally ended a bad streak Five days in a row I just obliterated my recommended calorie range. Finally, I am heading to bed tonight on a positive note, having eaten right in the middle of my range. On the negative side, I am heading to bed at 2am :( Changing my sleep habits is my next goal. Tue, 30 Jul 2013 01:59:12 EST Ordered my fitbit! I can't wait for it to come! I have definitely hit a wall, and I'm hoping this gadget will help me get motivated again. I plan to sync it to my SP account and try the "new" SP calorie-tracking system. Anyone who has advice/opinions about the fitbit and/or the new tracking system, I'd love to hear from you. Mon, 29 Jul 2013 15:13:32 EST Feeling better because of the reports I know my mood should not be dependent on my weight, but it is so...moving on...
It has now been over a month since I've lost any weight, even though I've been taking care of myself really well. I was getting very frustrated. But a quick look at my weight-loss history in the SP "reports" section, and I'm feeling back on track. I saw that the last time I lost weight, it took TWO months to lose just over a pound.

I've been on my weight-loss journey for over a year now, and the p... Thu, 25 Jul 2013 08:14:08 EST Summer going well so far Man, this is hard work! So far, I have managed to keep my weight in range (sometimes my weight varies by, like, five pounds in one day, so I don't fret about the exact number). Exercise is easy, because I'm very active in the summer and I love the heat.

My summer diet? That continues to be the hard part. But I see how my lifestyle has changed for the better, and I'm pretty proud of myself. Last year, I would drink, eat ice cream, etc. pretty much every day. Now, it's once or twice ... Sun, 21 Jul 2013 09:11:32 EST Milestone weight This weekend I hit a milestone in my weight loss journey. I am now back at my lowest weight in memory. I have now lost 43 pounds. It took around five years to gain that weight, and only one year to lose it, so I guess that's not so bad.

The summer is when I get really active, but also when I tend to eat and drink too much junk. I love baking tarts and cookies for bbqs, and drinking iced coffee drinks. I'm still trying to stick to my goal of drinking only water, and managed to do t... Mon, 24 Jun 2013 09:47:26 EST How did I do last week? Drank only water 4/7 days. Did my ab workout 6/7 days. Feeling better than the week before. I looked back at the numbers and saw why. For the first time since I started at SP, I consumed more calories than I worked off. I was definitely feeling blah. I bought new running shoes on the weekend to encourage me to get out more. Mon, 17 Jun 2013 09:10:27 EST Clothes shopping is becoming my new addiction! Now that I like the way I look in new clothes, I fear I will become a shopaholic. Thank goodness for the clearance rack. The highlight of my shopping day: I tried on a skirt in my (new) usual size 10 and it was too big. No size 8 on the rack but...the size 6 fits! It really fits! Not as in it can zip up if I suck in my gut enough. No gut-sucking, no muffin top. I was feeling pretty damn good :D I guess I have a NEW new usual size. Thu, 13 Jun 2013 23:44:39 EST Bad week How bad was my week last week? Well, today is only Monday, and I've already racked up more fitness calories burned than I did all of last week, lol. Last week I also started tracking my days of drinking only water, and I only managed to last four out of seven days. June was supposed to be the month I boosted up my health and fitness regime, but it started out with a thud. Oh, well...this week is starting off right so far. Let's hope I can stay on track better. Mon, 10 Jun 2013 22:52:50 EST Goal Day Today was the day I was hoping to be at my goal of 130lbs. I am still holding steady at 135lbs for a couple of months now. However, I am happy with how I look and feel, and that matters more than the scale. I probably need to just accept that this is where my body wants to be. I seem to be able to maintain this weight comfortably; I'm not starving myself, but I'm not eating mindlessly like I did when I was heavier. 40lbs gone is not too shabby! I have reset my SP goal to lose 5 more pounds by... Fri, 7 Jun 2013 13:30:47 EST It's June! Time to step things up! I am now one week away from my long-term goal, and It looks like I will come up a bit short. As of my latest weigh-in, I still have six pounds to lose. However, I have lost about 40 pounds in the past 14 months, so I'm not complaining.

I have decided to step up my fitness regimen for the next month with a few new goals. First, I will try the "30 Day Ab Challenge" that you may have seen around online lately. Second, I will increase my running routine. Most importantly, I will aim to... Sat, 1 Jun 2013 00:18:00 EST A vacation without cheating? This weekend my husband and I went on a wonderful romantic getaway to celebrate our anniversary (11 years!). I've really been unmotivated lately, and could have easily used this as an excuse to not track my food, but I fought the urge to be lazy and I logged everything. I'm glad I did, because I was pleasantly surprised. Despite alcohol and IHOP (not together, lol) I averaged just over 2000 calories each day of our trip. I also went to the gym at the hotel and did plenty of walking. I can't b... Sun, 26 May 2013 21:09:03 EST Reducing waste while reducing my waist Such a bad pun, lol. Anyways...
Over the past few months, I have been focusing on increasing the amount of REAL food I feed myself and my family. I cook nearly every night, and it's usually fresh, unprocessed food. I started doing this to take care of our health, but as an added benefit, I've noticed the amount of waste our household is creating has been dramatically reduced. Even with a one-year-old in diapers, we barely fill one garbage bag per week and we put out our recycling bins on... Thu, 16 May 2013 12:48:57 EST Still stuck Ugh, I have been at this plateau for over a month now. I tell myself it doesn't matter if I lose any more weight; I am in the healthy zone for bmi, I'm pretty happy with how I look and feel. But still, I'm stuck on the scale. Today I'm going for a run (been saying that every day for about 2 weeks, lol). I'm hoping that will be the boost I need to reach my goal weight. Sat, 11 May 2013 08:27:42 EST Exercise shake-up I am still dealing with a month-long plateau, and figured it's time to change my exercise routine. I work out with my dad and husband, in my dad's home gym. He has weights, an exercise bike and a treadmill. Usually we just do the weights, and I get my cardio by doing videos or being active outside. Last night I suggested we do a circuit. We each did 20 minutes at a station, then switched, with very little rest in between. Man, that kicked my butt! Even though I try to stay active between sets... Mon, 29 Apr 2013 17:00:39 EST "Calorie Differential Over Time" feature I just checked out this feature and I think it's really great. I'm feeling like I have hit a wall with my weight, and I've had a few slip-ups and lazy days, but when I look at this graph, I see that I am still doing all the right things over the long term. I am maintaining my weight, and I have confidence I can lose the last few pounds. It's nice to have an extra tool to measure my "lifestyle" and not just my weight. Wed, 24 Apr 2013 11:36:09 EST Happy birthday! I forgot to mention it was my beautiful baby boy's 1st birthday recently. He and his brother are two big reasons why I am on a path to fitness. I want to teach them to enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Mon, 22 Apr 2013 12:29:31 EST In Defense of Kim Kardashian A weird topic for a blog, I know. But if you've flipped past an entertainment show, or walked by a magazine rack lately, I'm sure you've seen her, um, extra-curvy pregnant body. And on top of the usual comments about being fat, there are also close-up photos of her clothes bunching around her butt, and of food being shoved in her mouth apparently non-stop. To me, this is a new low for entertainment "news". The woman is pregnant! Even for us "normal" women, being pregnant usually gives permiss... Sat, 13 Apr 2013 10:43:48 EST I can't believe what I did today! I bought a new bathing suit. No, wait, that's not all. A bikini! Holy crap, I bought a bikini! Does this mean I'll actually wear it? I hope so. But so far it is hiding at the bottom of my drawer. Since I live in Canada, I have a couple more months to wait before bathing suit weather anyway.

As you can probably guess from my tone, this is the first time I have ever even considered a two-piece bathing suit. It's always been one-piece, usually black, usually that scrunched-up style in... Fri, 5 Apr 2013 23:38:08 EST Broke through my latest plateau Finally lost that half-pound that's been hanging around for over two weeks. I am happy to report that I have now lost 10 pounds since joining SP, and I'm 25 pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight. My new little guy will be 1 in a few weeks. I feel I'm in a good place, weight-wise and health-wise. The progress has been slow, but I keep reminding myself that a slower weight loss is easier to maintain. Tue, 2 Apr 2013 12:54:55 EST Vacation...from eating healthy I just got back from an amazing family vacation in San Francisco. I tried my best to stay healthy. I definitely did plenty of walking. However, I did not get to the hotel gym one single time. I ate OK most of the time, but had a big-time indulgence on our last night. A big burger, fries, and a beer float. Not a "root" beer float. A "real" beer float. A big glass of Guiness, with two huge scoops of ice cream. OMG! Amazing! Som... Sun, 31 Mar 2013 21:50:19 EST Liquid calories I am not happy with my lack of will-power these days when it comes to avoiding high-calorie drinks. Just today I had two huge hot chocolates (over 600 calories there) and I had a drink with dinner (mojito, yum!). So, more than half my calories were unhealthy drinks today. Time to strengthen my resolve! My goal is to have just water for the rest of the week (to drink. Plenty of healthy food, too, obviously, lol) Sun, 17 Mar 2013 23:13:03 EST Another new month Two months at SP and I'm still very happy with my progress. I have only missed one day of calorie tracking and only missed my fitness goal one week. So far, I have lost 9 pounds in these two months, which is exactly where I want to be. Fri, 1 Mar 2013 10:09:43 EST Surprisingly easy... It has been surprisingly easy to lose weight for me. I don't mean easy as in I'm doing nothing and the pounds are just falling off. What I mean is, I typed in my weight, I typed in my goal, I was given a calorie range, and I've been following it, and slowly but surely, the weight has come off. I know I sound like one of those commercials, but I really am still eating food I like, and I'm not exercising like a crazy person. I'm just being healthy. I've hit a few plateaus, but when I look back ... Wed, 27 Feb 2013 09:34:20 EST Half-way there! Today I reached(actually, passed) half way to my current weight loss goal. Eight pounds lost since I signed up with Spark People. Doing a little happy dance :) I have only six more pounds to go, and my initial goal was to get there by June. Tue, 26 Feb 2013 14:22:54 EST Food as a reward I was raised to enjoy food. My parents weren't the type to serve themselves a juicy steak while the kids had Kraft dinner (mac & cheese, for you non-Canadians, lol). Food was always something to be enjoyed, especially for special occasions and treats. I still view food as something special, rather than just energy for my body, and I'm not sure how to stop, or even if I should stop. For example, today my mom gave me a "day off" and babysat so I could do some shopping and get my hair cut. I had... Thu, 7 Feb 2013 16:18:32 EST Notes to self Just taking notes of my weight at various times, to keep track of my journey:
July 2011: pregnant! 158 lbs
April 18 2012: day before delivery 195 lbs
April 20 2012: day after delivery 176 lbs (10 lb baby boy!)
August 1 2012: back to pre-pregnancy weight 158 lbs
September 1 2012: Dad's heart attack (He's OK now). Wake-up call to get healthier. 160 lbs
Goal: Lose 30 lbs
December 5 2012: Half-way there! 145 lbs
January 1 2013: Holidays have me stuck at 145... Sun, 3 Feb 2013 13:51:06 EST One month Spark-iversary! Today marks one month since I've joined Spark People! I have actually managed to track all my food and exercise every day, and made my goals the vast majority of the time. The results? Over five pounds lost this month! My goal is now only 10 pounds away! I was doing well on my own, but this site has really helped get me get through a plateau and into the home stretch of my weight loss. Fri, 1 Feb 2013 11:35:13 EST Stopping when I'm full I am now actually feeling full sooner. I don't know if it's a mental thing (becoming more aware of my body) or a physical thing (needing fewer calories), but even my family has noticed that I'm eating less and saying I'm full sooner. I also am working hard at letting food stay on my plate. I've always been one who hates to "waste" food, but if I eat a bunch of food that I don't want or need, that's wasteful, too. Thu, 31 Jan 2013 16:20:59 EST Impossible to eat out One thing I've learned by tracking my calories more closely is that it's pretty much impossible to keep the calorie count low when eating out. I have not had a meal under about 600 calories. Mainly it's because the food I enjoy when eating out is high in carbs, such as pasta or sandwiches. Sure, there are some token "healthy" options on most menus, but even if they are actually healthy and low-cal, they're not what I want to eat. I figure, if I'm paying good money for this food, I should get ... Mon, 28 Jan 2013 12:46:59 EST Surviving the buffet Today there was a family dinner at The Mandarin, which has a huge and delicious buffet. Even though I tried really hard to be "good", I estimate my calorie intake was at least 1500! I ate nothing battered or creamy. I ate no meat; only fish and shrimp, and some vegetables. I admit, I did have quite a few desserts, but very small portions of each. I also had only water to drink. I left feeling full and satisfied, but not overly-stuffed. I can only imagine how many calories I used to have when... Sun, 27 Jan 2013 18:21:47 EST muffins=muffin top One lesson I've learned through recording my calorie intake is how many calories are in seemingly healthy choices. I am a muffin addict, but most of the muffins I was previously eating were close to 400 calories! The whole-grain, fruity options may give you some nutrients, but if you choose chocolate chip or something, you may as well be eating cake for breakfast. Walmart offers a butter-tart muffin. Thanks a bunch for that temptation, LOL.

I am managing my addiction in a couple of... Sat, 26 Jan 2013 19:26:27 EST Slow and steady! I need to remember that this weight didn't get put on overnight, and it will take time to come off. I'm still on track at losing about a pound per week. Sometimes, when I hit a plateau, even if it's only for a few days, I feel like giving up. I figure, my stricter eating isn't working anyway, so why bother? But so far, I've been able to resist a big blow-out. Fri, 25 Jan 2013 07:28:43 EST
