ALLABOUTLOVE's SparkPeople Blog ALLABOUTLOVE's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community The Good, the Bad, and the Lazy! I had a refreshing Christmas break with some ups and downs. Here is the condensed version:

The Good - I didn't gain any weight with the holiday season!

The Bad - My house looks like a tornado went through it, thanks to putting up the decorations and keeping bunnies inside (32 degrees at night).

The Lazy - I got off the exercise wagon! I jumped off actually!!!

I bought a new water bottle that holds 32 oz. and fits in the car cup holder. I ... Thu, 17 Jan 2013 06:32:00 EST HTCI update I am really glad that I started on the book. I have been so busy with life that I can't seem to get to the Disasterous Dining room! But, the flip side the rest of my house looks good. It has been easy to keep it in good condition. Now I am not saying perfect. We all know that perfect well is attainable only by the wealthy who can afford live in maids. And even then, perfect is dependent on the live in made!

I am the live in maid so my level of perfection is at an 8 out of 10 ... Wed, 31 Oct 2012 07:51:07 EST HTCI report 2b Wow, I really wanted to conquer the Disasterous Dining Room. It is looking like we need to stay where we are right now. I am seeing that the kids are starting to slide back into some old habits and my hubby is starting to slide back on his commitment to help it stay that way when I can't do it. That is fine. It takes time to relearn new habits, and the book did say it could take 6 months to get there. We are getting so close to the holidays and I will have some extra people in the house ... Wed, 24 Oct 2012 06:50:53 EST HTCI report number 2! I am getting excited here! My family has been very good about maintaining the kitchen and upstairs family room. We have now added the downstairs Living room to the routine. I am going to show you before and after pictures - so here we go!
This is my fireplace/ Ian's Lego center.
This is how it looks after using my HTCI to get it clean and organized ... Fri, 19 Oct 2012 07:32:03 EST The House That Cleans Itself (HTCI) report OK, I have conquered my home base area, the upstairs family room and my bedroom (minus the office corner). I want to conquer the front entry and living room areas next. My goal is to make the previous areas easy to keep conquered through family contributions and adaptions to the way the house is set up so that it is easy to follow through.

My husband did agree to help me by making sure things are enforced when I can't be there to enforce them!

I have been working ou... Wed, 10 Oct 2012 05:51:06 EST There's cleaning house and Then There's cleaning HOUSE! Today seems to be a day of epiphanies! Yesterday, I bought a new soap dispenser that was pumpkin shaped because it would add a cute yet functional decoration to my kitchen fall look. I couldn't get it to release the pump so that it would work. I am getting frustrated because I am turning and turning the pump to release it and it isn't releasing! I put it down thinking that I would return it to the store tomorrow.

Well, this morning, I picked it back up to look at it. I tried... Fri, 5 Oct 2012 10:19:54 EST Didn't even know! I have been going through this whole week feeling tired. I was exercising and running kids around to summer swim league practices and doing my best to keep up the house.

Today, I got to sleep in and read and sleep and read and sleep. I finally figured it out that I was sick. I should have done this back on Monday. The chills were what confirmed it for me. That and now I can breathe through my nose and I have stopped sneezing.

Moms get caught in this vicious cyc... Sat, 5 May 2012 18:35:21 EST MS 150

Yes! This is me doing the MS 150 from Houston to Austin. I was wiped out from the event. I made it to La Grange and that was it. My son, Stephen also did the ride with me. He had stomach cramps on Sunday and we decided to call it quits.

I am glad I did this ride, and I want to do it again next year! I learned a few thing... Mon, 30 Apr 2012 15:39:16 EST A little Spa day with friends I found a website that shows you how to make facial masks and lip gloss and other things with stuff in your kitchen.

My brownie co-leader and I decided to try it with our girls and include the moms. We had so much fun! We took pictures of each other in our silly painted faces, we painted our nails in outrageous colors (thanks to my teenage daughter's supply),and we made Kool-Aid flavored lip gloss . Everyone brought some food and we had a blast. The girls ran around the house c... Sat, 14 Apr 2012 07:59:40 EST I am just a little bit frustrated I can't seem to put my finger on it. I am frustrated but I can't attribute it to any one thing. It is a bunch of little things that creep up on me and get me into this rut. I just want a nice, normal, slow week where I don't have to think about 10 different things at the same time. I get frustrated with other people's procrastination. I get frustrated with my husband ( who is working from home right now), I get frustrated with kids who don't want to do house chores when they are being t... Tue, 10 Apr 2012 09:59:15 EST The great Spring Break Adventure! For the first time ever, I decided to take my kids on a little trip, without my husband. He is working in Spain. I just didn't feel like moping around the house wondering how to entertain my kids during an incredibly long week!

We decided that we would camp at Goose Island State Park - $10/night.
We went to the beach (only 6.5 miles away) every day.
We went into the Rockport Aquarium - free. They even let me bring our dogs inside.
We went to the Rockport Art Galle... Fri, 16 Mar 2012 17:59:13 EST The big ride is getting closer! Well, there are only46 days to the BPMS 150! I am going to do a 26 mile ride on Friday to see where I am as far as endurance goes. This will be interesting. My goal is to be in good enough shape that I don't feel like a train wreck. That may be an unattainable goal. This is my first time and I have never done such a long distance. Tue, 6 Mar 2012 08:14:30 EST Lice again! But turned into a spa day. I found out that we had the lice monster again! More laundry than I ever wanted for the next two weeks. I decided to make this fun by turning it into a spa day. Baby Oil is a natural remedy for head lice. We used nice smelling baby oil gels and rubbed that throughout our heads. Then the girls followed it up with a chocolate mask! We closed our eyes while we let the mask dry and actually felt relaxed! I am surprised to see the little wrinkles on my forehead diminish! My skin feels so s... Sun, 26 Feb 2012 15:57:04 EST My short but sweet daily, weekly, monthly goals I read Queridaana blog about her goals and I have decided to make my own list of goals as well. I can't keep a long list so I have decided to keep the daily list to two goals, my weekly list to three goals and my monthly or long term list to 4 goals. I hope that by keeping my lists short, that I will actually do them this time!

Daily goals: exercise for at least 30 minutes. If I am biking, it has to be for an hour.
Eat more vegetable/fruit servin... Sat, 25 Feb 2012 07:55:49 EST Well I am well now and I see the mountain of housework ahead of me! What is it about mom being sick that gives all other members the freedom to royally mess up the house and leave it for mom when she gets well again? It is completely unfair! I am rebelling and I am going to let my kids spend their Friday cleaning the house that they made look like a whirlwind of chaos! In real adult life that is what happens. You make the mess, you clean it up! I am a little bit jealous of my friends who tell me that they don't clean the house. I think that I would lov... Fri, 17 Feb 2012 09:16:41 EST Lice and the Flu! We had to do another treatment on my 10 year old daughter for the lice. She had it the worst, so, it didn't surprise me. We just keep cleaning the bedding, towels, and clothes in hot water.

Now we also have to deal with the flu! My 15 year old daughter has had it for a week now. I thought that we would get by without it spreading to other members - I was sadly mistaken!

My 10 year old was awake when I got up at 5am. She told me that she didn't sleep at all last nig... Fri, 10 Feb 2012 11:41:10 EST Who knew that such a little bug could cause so much problems! I got the dreaded email yesterday from my son's school. Someone was diagnosed with lice! I checked out my son. I suspected that it was lice and took him to get a professional opinion. Yep! it was lice. The good news, it wasn't bad - only one egg and mechanical (use a fine toothed lice comb) removal was advised.

I decided to check my other kids. The teenager had nothing. Now for the bad news - the little guys were infested with oodles of little critters that were crawling ... Fri, 27 Jan 2012 07:40:18 EST Easier now that kids are in school We I have a new normal with the kids back in school. My 11 yr. old goes to a private school that operates on the university model. He goes to school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 2pm. He didn't test into their math and he isn't taking an elective or PE since we are doing the MS 150. That means I teach math on T,Th. and I have to come up with a set of work for M, W, F. I also have to help supervise his work on M, W, F. So, I don't have complete control of my days when he is at ... Tue, 17 Jan 2012 09:52:14 EST Out of the routine! I am trying to get back into my routine. With kids at home, it is hard to stick to my program. The good news - I am not gaining. The bad news - I am not losing. The kids go back in 6 days and I will be on a roll again! This is short and sweet. Have a great day! Thu, 29 Dec 2011 08:12:39 EST Seeing improvement! My son and I did our usual 4.6 mile ride. We usually do it in 30 minutes or so. It went real fast on Friday. We didn't officially time it, but, my husband swears that we were only gone for 20 minutes.

The real test will be to time it. The ride did feel like an under 30 minute ride. So today, we will actually time it! I am even going to put air in my tires so that I don't feel like I am riding uphill the whole time - What a concept!

If we actually do the 4.6 mil... Sun, 6 Nov 2011 06:43:26 EST Big goal! I hope it doesn't kill me!! My son's boy scout troop is participating in the Houston MS 150. Since he is under 13, he has to ride a tandem bike, according to the race rules. Guess what? that means I have to ride with him! We are starting out slow. We did a 5 mile ride that left us pleasantly exhausted. Of course, we didn't go very fast either. We agreed that our goal was to finish and nothing else! Being 44 makes it hard to train for a big race like this, so I hope it doesn't kill me in the process. If you h... Tue, 1 Nov 2011 07:36:32 EST Week one of Dr. Oz's waist whittling diet We I am finishing week one of Dr. Oz's waist whittling diet. I have found some of the recipes to be so good that I will continue to use them. The black bean soup astounds my 7 yr. old. He ate 4 man-sized bowls in one sitting! I also the hearts of palm salad was very good. I also like the Harvest Garden soup.
I have been having a soup at lunch every day and I think that I will stick to that idea! I am going to make huge batches of 5 different soups to divide into one-serving con... Sat, 6 Aug 2011 09:42:36 EST Days one and two of the Dr. Oz waist whittling diet Well, I have completed 2 days of Dr. Oz's waist whittling diet. If you go to you can find the diet as well. The food is great! I can't eat all of it and I have lost 2 pounds in two days. The diet is heavy in the fruit and veggie area. I had 10 servings on day one and 7 on day two and, looking at day 3, I will get 9 servings from the fruit and veggie category. I haven't craved junk or sweets. I usually want bread and tortilla chips galore! Go to the website and try this if ... Wed, 3 Aug 2011 11:58:38 EST Back into the grind! Today I am trying to get back into the grind of daily life. It isn't easy when you just had an amazingly relaxing vacation! I managed to get back down to 152 pounds and that makes me happy. I am pretty sure it was all water weight. I drank on the beach, but, my guess is that it is hard to keep up the appropriate water requirements for a place like the beach. I stayed in the shade of my umbrella a lot. I drank my 52 oz Bubba jug of water every morning while sitting under said umbrella. ... Tue, 26 Jul 2011 09:59:18 EST Sorry I was gone! Hi guys,

I was on a terrific vacation this week! I was completely relaxed, at the beach, and no worries! I love the beach so much that I want to live there when I retire. I will have to lose my last 10 (now my last 14) pounds to that! Being at the beach makes me hungry! I can keep my dinner portions good and healthy. It is the snacking that ruins me! I eat probably 3 extra times and it is usually junk. I justify it with "Oh I am walking so much more" and forget that being ... Sun, 24 Jul 2011 08:07:34 EST Any suggestions? I would love to get my 4 kids (aged 14, 11, 9, and 7) to contribute to keeping the house clean, without nagging. I am contemplating an idea that might work without too much complaining and grumbling. I would tell my kids that they can pick a chore, any chore, and write it down on the dry erase chore chart. Then they do it. I would check the items on the chore chart to see if they are done and award points based on whether it was done, and how well. Once a week, if everyone has done one c... Sat, 25 Jun 2011 09:16:49 EST The last day of day camp! Today is the last day of day camp! We got a spirit award again because North Star District, Pack 148 is so much fun! We are attempting to do a marching song that is catchy and I am hoping that I can figure out how to send the pictures for the slide show so that our boys can see themselves on the big screen. I can't wait to resume my exercise schedule next week! This day camp, combined with 8am swim team practice is hard on all of us. If we didn't have a meet on Saturday, I would just ski... Fri, 17 Jun 2011 08:16:05 EST Day Two of the disorganized Day Camp OK, it was a little better today. At least we had the gist of the rotation. Our boys got a spirit award for entertaining the whole crowd during a mandatory down time. One of my boys got a special award for exhibiting a cub scout core value - He went with his friend to the RR when they were waiting to shoot bb guns. Most of the boys that the "friend in need" asked wouldn't go because they were afraid to miss shooting bb guns. I am so proud of my guy Christian. He is so awesome! I still... Thu, 16 Jun 2011 07:37:59 EST Am I an organization freak? I don't get it sometimes. I think most people who put together big events don't have great organizational skills. Instead of talking to groups as they come in, the lady is yelling at us over a speaker system. The kids are talking, yelling, screaming and running around. Adults are talking, putting things in place, yelling at kids and definitely not setting a good example. It is painfully obvious that some den walkers did not bring something to keep the boys occupied! People weren't read... Wed, 15 Jun 2011 08:19:46 EST Revisiting the motivation factor! I have to take a long hard look at why I am losing fat and gaining health. It seems, lately, that I am inundated with stressful situations and work ( volunteer and domestic)! I tend to not exercise when that happens. I have been doing a good job at maintaining but I am ready to start losing the fat again. It will definitely help with the stressful situations! I just wish that I could take a vacation from everything and everyone right now. I feel the need to take care of no one but mysel... Tue, 7 Jun 2011 09:07:52 EST What is it about this week?! I don't know what it is about this week. I got the results of my saliva test only to confirm what I already know. My hormones are out of balance. I have been suffering with the hot flashes and night sweats for years only for doctors to tell me that I am fine. They tell me I am too young for the change, etc. Despite the fact that early menopause runs in my family. I finally found a doctor that told me the blood test isn't as accurate as the saliva test.

But for some weird r... Tue, 26 Apr 2011 10:45:44 EST After the Fast I am back on track. I don't crave the junky stuff after fasting for 2 days. It is easier to stay on track and I am well rested as I didn't do any exercise. My 5K workout was great today. I don't feel to tired afterwards! I think my muscles needed the extra break. I may have been fatigued. I am eating well again and I am finally under 150 pounds. The last time I was at this weight was after my first child was born. I was actually underweight when I got pregnant with her - A LOT! I th... Thu, 7 Apr 2011 14:47:38 EST Fasting for 2 days I am fasting today and tomorrow because my intestines are not happy with me. My doctor told me to give them a rest by not making them work to digest. That means no exercise today or tomorrow. This will be a challenge now that I am back into running. My muscles will be screaming "why aren't you out there working us out?!" I don't know how to just sit around all day! This will be good as I also use this time to engage in my 40 days of prayer that our church is doing while we are looking f... Tue, 5 Apr 2011 08:45:22 EST A rotten way to lose a pound! Last night I think I was hit by the food poisoning bug. I didn't feel bad but I did lose the contents wholly and completely last night over a 2 hour period. Today is supposed to be my 5k day. I am not sure what to do with that. I feel fine right now. I could definitely walk it. I really want to jog it though. I am going to see how it goes with eating breakfast and take it from there. I don't want to overtax my body. But, my excitement sometimes gets in the way of better judgement. H... Fri, 25 Mar 2011 09:29:56 EST Spring Break overview I can definitely say that I had fun during our Spring Break. I can even say that I got some things done. We replaced plants that we lost in the freeze and mulched the yard. Nutritionally, I was up and down. The good news, I didn't gain any weight. The bad news, I didn't lose any either. I seemed to have plateaued and I am trying to work through it. Any suggestions as to how I do this? I haven't had to do this before. I would really like to get to 140 pounds by the Summer. I plan on ... Mon, 21 Mar 2011 07:25:11 EST Going to Georgetown (near Austin) I have been surviving Spring Beak without gaining weight. I would like to lose a little just so that I know that it can be done. So, after getting through a movie and 6 hours at Schlitterbahn, I can say that an Austin trip can be done without gaining. I am going to do a Turbo Fire cardio kickboxing video before I go. I hope that you are doing as well during your Spring Break. Sat, 19 Mar 2011 09:10:13 EST I am so close to my goal weight I am so close to my goal of 140 pounds. I keep hearing that the last 10 pounds are the hardest to lose. So, I got the beach body workout dvds to avert that problem. This will change up my workout routine so that I have to burn more calories! I will let you know if it works. The workouts look fun and they don't require a lot of space to do them. So, I should be doing my first session in the next few days. It looks like cardio kickboxing with some silly moves added in. I also get to do ... Sun, 27 Feb 2011 08:06:54 EST I'm getting close! I am so excited as I weigh in this morning. I am now only 155 pounds. That means that I have lost 20 pounds and I have only 20 pounds to go! I am determined, more then ever to stay motivated to reach my goal by summer! I want to wear a bikini when we go on vacation to Destin, Florida this year. I can't wait to start trying them on! Tue, 22 Feb 2011 07:54:46 EST Below the 160 mark! I finally did it! I got below 160 pounds. I am very determined now to keep the downward trend. I am so close to my goal of 135 pounds, that I can smell it! It helps me to think of mini weight goals in the meantime. My next mini goal is to make it to 150 pounds. When I think of my weight loss in mini chunks, it makes the process very doable. I don't get overwhelmed with the idea of trying to lose a huge amount. So, here go the next 10 pounds! Sat, 12 Feb 2011 09:16:43 EST My husband is sabatoging my efforts! What to do? I am working very hard to get healthier and get to a healthier weight. My husband is constantly nagging me about what I am eating. He doesn't think that I should be so concerned about my weight. At least not enough to leave me alone so that I can do what is working for me. I am doing a very basic diet right now since I found out that what I am eating could be affecting my sleep by inflaming my gut. I found out from my doctor that while I may not be allergic to some foods, I ... Mon, 31 Jan 2011 07:44:30 EST Back on Track I started a doctor supervised weight loss program last week. I am back on track to losing weight. My doctor is also regulating my thyroid and hormones so that I can lose the weight and keep it off! I am looking forward to wearing a two piece bathing suit with pride this summer! I will post a picture when I get closer to my goal. Wed, 26 Jan 2011 17:03:33 EST I just became a free woman! I have had a difficult time sticking with the program as I was putting together Career Day for my daughter's middle school. It was all over on the 14th. Talk about relief. I am back on the wagon and looking toward to bikini shape by summer! Tue, 18 Jan 2011 09:38:06 EST It was benign The title says it all. Now I move on and try to lose some fat! Sun, 31 Oct 2010 07:34:04 EST Ups and downs I am having a hard time sticking to the plan. I am going to get back into it because I have a new reason to get healthy. I may have breast cancer. I am going to have a cyst aspiration and possible biopsy on Thursday. I have been eating the 80% healthy diet but I haven't been exercising. So, today is a new day! I need to do this if I am going to beat the odds. I am not upset and I don't want to cry over something that I can't control. I am praying that God will see me through, whicheve... Mon, 18 Oct 2010 07:00:11 EST Inconsistent! I have been inconsistent lately. I am trying to get back on track. I am not gaining, but, I am not losing either. I need to get back to eating well again. I may even need to go totally organic and clean eating. I am getting a spot checked out on my breast. I am sure that the clean eating will help. I refuse to let this get me down! I see it as reminder to keep on doing what is best for my body so that I can have the best chance for success! So if there is anyone who can be my encoura... Mon, 27 Sep 2010 07:06:57 EST A rainy Labor Day! Here in Sugar Land , we are under a flash flood watch until Tuesday evening. That means having an indoor Labor Day. I want to plan some activities around the house that will help us be active and have fun. We plan on playing in the rain, then cleaning up, then have a scavenger hunt around the house. You can make it a fun way to clean the house at the same time. have the kids take pictures (digital) of everything they pick up and put up. You get one point per item and 10 points if no on... Mon, 6 Sep 2010 08:51:25 EST Labor Day - not so laborious I am having to celebrate Labor Day with my husband in another state. That means that the kids and I have to find a way to celebrate without him. we were going to have a glorious day at the water park, but, it is too expensive. So, we are opting to go to the movies today and hopefully go to the big park to have dinner and hopefully have an OK day on Monday as it is supposed to rain tremendously all day long. We may play in the rain and get soppin' wet and then relish hot baths to warm up a... Sat, 4 Sep 2010 12:29:28 EST Having a great day! I am having a great day simply because it's my birthday! I have gotten so many birthday wishes that it made me cry. I don't believe in counting calories on my big day so here goes on day down the tube! I don't think that one day will kill my overall plan to lose weight. I will still get my 3 mile walk in so that I can minimize the impact though! I am having a big party. I invited everyone I know to come and swim and eat some tacos. I am having my tacos on whole wheat tortillas. I love... Fri, 20 Aug 2010 08:05:00 EST I can lift weights again, Yeah! I had surgery 2 months ago on my left shoulder to repair a torn capsule. I have been very restricted in my exercise options and doing painful rehab. I had lost 16 pounds from January to June. I gained 5 back with the loss of exercise. I had gotten a little depressed over this inevitable fallback. But now, I have been cleared to do bicep curls and tricep extensions with 3- 5 pound weights! I have gotten back into my walking routine. It used to hurt to walk long distances as it jostled ... Fri, 13 Aug 2010 09:57:34 EST Swim team finals are over! Well the madness is over! We had finals yesterday. Two of my four kids made to the meet. My 13 year old got 7th in her freestyle. That may not so impressive to you, but, you have to understand that she didn't start out in May like everyone else. She also took a week off to go to camp. We weren't even expecting her to swim at finals! She also swam a highly impressive time and still only got 7th place!
My youngest got 3rd place for his freestyle relay. It was exciting to see becaus... Sun, 18 Jul 2010 06:20:56 EST
