Mon, 8 Jul 2013 09:57:13 EST Week 1: Starting Another Round Things got a little crazy around here and my blogging has slipped. I have still been working on getting in my exercise and eating healthier but it’s time to refocus once again. Setting goals and working on them in 6-week segments seems to work well for me so here’s the start of another 6-week set. My goals haven’t changed too much from my previous rounds. It is nice though, to be able to look back and see how much I actually have improved – especially in the area of exercise. Now I need ... Sun, 7 Jul 2013 10:39:06 EST Week 12: Day 2 - Never Give Up - EVER! This is a reminder to myself to never give up - EVER! Three months ago I got fed up with where I was at and never seeming to get anywhere and decided to make a change. I have started eating healthier and exercising more but the weight loss has been painfully slow and discouraging.

Today was one of those days when despite the best laid plans things got derailed so I had to focus on getting done just those most important things. This normally would have created a huge amount of ... Wed, 29 May 2013 08:01:59 EST Week 12: Day 1 - I'm Still Here I just realized that I have been working on healthier living for 12 weeks now and I'm still here! I've had ups and I have definitely had downs but I haven't given up or quit and I am still motivated to keep going! For me, I think this is definitely a record. I did good with my goals for today.

Every Day:-
~Track Food 48
~Stay within recommended calorie range 48
~Drink 8+ glasses of water 48

Monday
~Bike: ... Tue, 28 May 2013 07:55:04 EST Week 11: Day 7 I have been negligent about keeping up with my blogging. It's just been one of those weeks when you feel super busy and yet feel like you got nothing accomplished. But, the week is behind me and it's time to focus on what I am going to do this week.

Every Day:-
~Track Food
~Stay within recommended calorie range
~Drink 8+ glasses of water

Monday
~Bike: 30 minutes
~Evening Exercise
~ST DVD
~NEAT: 120 minutes

Tu... Mon, 20 May 2013 09:53:13 EST Week 10: Day 2 – Fridges & Food This morning on my Spark Coach video Chef Meg said, “where you spend time cooking and exercising has a profound effect on your ability to stick to your goals.” Today’s challenge is to organize the fridge, freezer, pantry and exercise area. I am already happy with my exercise space but I know my fridge/freezer is in need of some help. Now that I buy so much more veggies the drawers are full and overflowing into the rest of the fridge, especially after shopping day. So, I need to find a way t... Wed, 15 May 2013 06:46:53 EST Week 10: Day 1 – Quit Sitting & Get NEATing I ordered the Spark Solution and will be working through it for the next two weeks. I probably won’t be using too many of their recommended meals though because a lot of them won’t work for my daughter. However, I will aim for substitutions and see how close I come to meeting the goals set out for each day.

For Day 1 the goals are:-

Calories: 1,457
~My Calories: 1690
Sodium: 2,071 mg
~My Sodium: 1361 mg
Fiber: 26 g
~My Fiber: 26 g
Fat: ... Tue, 14 May 2013 06:50:04 EST Week 9: Day 7 - A Great Day I had a great Mother's Day. It started off with breakfast in bed compliments of my daughter - waffles, fresh strawberries and yogurt with a beautiful rose and a clue! Yup, my family got together and sent me on a scavenger hunt. The first two clues led me to a park we used to frequent regularly when the kids were little and waiting there was a delicious lunch compliments of my son - BBQ'd pork chops, salads, fresh veggies, watermelon and of course some dessert! It was delicious. Then we h... Mon, 13 May 2013 08:59:19 EST Week 9: Day 4 - Not Much To Say Nothing too much to say about today other than it was a long day. I did my morning bike ride 332 and walked, walked and walked some more while working at the store this morning. Afterwards I went and did some shopping and found some cute skirts for summer. A lot I tried on were too big so that was a nice feeling. 9 Then, I stocked up on groceries for the week although I am not sure I should say groceries anymore since it's mainly fruits & veggies, meat, milk & yogurt.... Fri, 10 May 2013 06:57:44 EST Week 9: Day 3 – No Quick Fix I shaved another minute off of my biking time this morning! And, I biked the hill in the middle of my route that makes me work in a gear higher than I have been! And, what a reward when I got to the top, some new horses were enjoying a morning gallop in the sunrise with their foal. That’s why I love outdoor biking so much!

I accompanied my daughter to her specialist appointment today. She has been having stomach problems for over a year and our family doctor suspected it was ... Thu, 9 May 2013 06:51:46 EST Week 9: Day 2 – Tired Day I was tired all day today but I still got a few things done. I did go for my morning bike ride 332 and I did my daily chores around the house. I also dug up some daylilies and then took them over to my parents who are creating a new flowerbed. 375 Of course, when I drop something off at my parents a quick 15 minutes turns into longer! I had a nice visit but it kind of threw the rest of my day out of whack. I didn’t get everything done that I wanted but then, family... Wed, 8 May 2013 07:42:36 EST Week 9: Day 1 – Gardening What a beautiful day we had here. I spent part of the morning and a good part of the afternoon working outside. I cleaned out two flowerbeds, cleaned up our firepit area and cleaned out my herb pots. 376 My chives are growing beautifully and my tarragon and thyme are coming up as well and it also looks like my marjoram is beginning to peek out. I got some empty pots out and I can’t wait to start planting. It will probably be a few weeks yet before our evening temps stay above... Tue, 7 May 2013 06:42:37 EST Week 8: Day 7 - It's Funny How the Mind Works It's funny how the mind works. Now that I have told myself I am not going to start the walk/jog program quite yet but just focus on getting out for an evening walk I have had no problems with going out after dinner. In fact, I hurry through dinner clean up because I can't wait to get outside for my evening walk. But, if I think about doing a walk/jog all of a sudden my mind has a million and one excuses why I can't go out. 198 So, for now I am focusing on walking each evening ... Mon, 6 May 2013 08:16:14 EST Week 8: Day 6 – Cloverleafs & Stopwatches I received my invite and have joined the Cloverleafs for the Spring 5% challenge. I am hoping it will be a fun and motivational challenge for the next eight weeks that will help boost my weight loss.

I set my stopwatch for my bike ride this morning. I did my regular route in just under 34 minutes and that was with stopping for a couple of quick chats. Gotta love small towns for that. I noticed that with my stopwatch ticking away in my backpack I was definitely more motivated ... Sun, 5 May 2013 18:51:57 EST Week 8: Day 5 – Well,At Least It Wasn’t Snow I went biking in the rain this morning. I would love to say that it was pleasant with the fresh misting of moisture in the air and the wonderful smell of ozone. Unfortunately, it was just cold and wet but I did it anyways! I noticed that some of the trees are beginning to get their leaves! Yay! And, I saw some daffodils blooming as well.

I spent most of the morning and afternoon doing my weekly housecleaning. I like doing it on Friday because it helps me to relax and enjoy ... Sat, 4 May 2013 08:43:00 EST Week 8: Day 4 – What A Crazy Morning Talk about a crazy start to the day. It started off with not getting paid for the work I did in the first half of April. Why is that? Well, because I took a week off mid-April that somehow messes up their computer system and doesn’t show the work done prior to coming back from time off. Well, at least that’s the excuse they used. Then, while biking the chain slipped off. 24 Thankfully it was a quick and easy fix but getting my bike a tune up is definitely high on my priorit... Fri, 3 May 2013 06:59:10 EST Week 8: Day 3 It was a chilly morning with the temps well below freezing but I didn’t let that stop me from heading out for my morning bike ride. It was cold at first but so beautiful. Everything was covered in a white frosty veil and diamonds of frozen water droplets sparkled from the tree branches while the bright blue sky reflected clearly off the ice in the frozen water puddles. As I got my heart pumping from the exercise the cold became decidedly refreshing and by the time it was over I was definit... Thu, 2 May 2013 07:04:28 EST Week 8: Day 2 - Shifting Schedules I didn't get my bike ride in this morning due to the snow from the night before but I am still on track to get in my five bike rides this week. The change in the working hours for the other members of the household has changed our evening routine. I don't know if I should move my evening workout to the afternoon or try to keep it in the evening. I am going to play it by ear I guess and see how it will all work out. I think as long as I am making it a priority to get it done it will happen... Wed, 1 May 2013 07:14:46 EST Week 8: Day 1 - Seriously? I had every intention of doing a post-dinner workout. However, despite my best laid plans it was not to be. The snow began to fall mid-afternoon. Shortly after I had put dinner in the oven the power began to flicker and then went out - and stayed out. It was out for 3.5 hours. Plus, I ended up having to go pick up hubby from work as we are currently juggling two cars between 3 people - two of those people working different shift schedules. By the time we got home at almost 9 pm the powe... Tue, 30 Apr 2013 07:36:15 EST Week 7: Day 7 - Recap & Weekly Plan Week 7 is finished. I did awesome with my morning biking. I just don't have too much of a problem getting out in the morning. Plus, the weather has been beautiful first thing so that really helps. On the other hand, I didn't do even one evening workout. I knew they would be a challenge but really, not even one. That definately needs to change this week. My eating was good for the most part. I still have to make sure that I am aware every single day of what I am eating or little things... Mon, 29 Apr 2013 09:53:04 EST Week 7: Day 5 – Time? On my Spark Coach Video today Coach Nicole compared losing weight to taking a college level course. I liked that. 149 She talked about how there is research to do, papers to keep, things to write down and track and how it all takes time and how a person may have to cut back on some other activities or get help doing other things in order to have the time needed to devote to weight loss. This is so true. I don’t think most people realize the time commitment when they decide the... Sat, 27 Apr 2013 09:34:04 EST Week 7: Day 4 – “Even The Dog Has Healthy Treats” My daughter makes me laugh. We were sitting down in the evening and I asked if she could give our dog his evening chew treat. 200 I told her he had a granola chew in the cupboard. So, she wandered over to the cupboard, opened it up and said, “Oh my word - even the dog has healthy treats now!” I didn’t even realize that our eating had changed that much but she has been away for eight months and when she was home for visits I just made her favorites. Now that she is home for t... Fri, 26 Apr 2013 08:01:37 EST Week 7: Day 3 - Just Another Day It was another beautiful morning. I think spring is finally here. I went out biking again this morning and definitely felt the workout. Honestly, I think all our roads go uphill 246

The weather in the evening turned yucky so I ended up not going for a walk/jog. I am thinking I may just start the program next week as my legs have been feeling the biking and I don’t want to end up pulling something and then being further behind.

Eating has been on track.... Thu, 25 Apr 2013 08:07:19 EST Week 7: Day 2 – Restart
I headed out for a morning bike ride. At first I thought it would be too cold but once I was out it was beautiful and definitely not too cold! I can tell it has been more than a few months since I last biked and it made me feel so out of shape but also invigorated. I can’t wait to go out and do it again tomorrow morning! 332

It was a quieter day at home as I just puttered around and caught up on a few things and did some office work. It was nice after the cra... Wed, 24 Apr 2013 07:58:24 EST Week 7: Day 1 – Tripping On The Start Line All I can say about today is that it was a fail. It started last night as I ended up staying up much later than I normally do as I was waiting or my son to come home. He had been having trouble with the car and I wanted to make sure that he didn’t have any issues getting home. Thankfully he didn’t but by the time he was home and we chatted it was late. This morning started very early and it was a long day. I drove my daughter to her job interview 45 minutes away. Then we had to go into t... Tue, 23 Apr 2013 07:52:06 EST Weeks 7-12 Plan of Action: Week 7 It is so nice to see some sunshine today and the forecast is for the weather to finally warm up this week! 224 This week I start my walk/jog program and with the weather warming up I am also planning on pulling out my bike again. So, without further ado, here is my plan for the week.

Daily:-
~Track food
~Stay within 1600 calorie range
~Eat at least 5 veggies
~Drink 8 glasses of water
~Stay away from processed foods

Monday
~Walk/... Mon, 22 Apr 2013 09:37:39 EST Weeks 7-12 Plan of Action It is good to be home. We spent most of the past week on the road as we went to pick up our daughter from college. Two days of driving there, one day there and two days of driving home. It's amazing how tired a body gets from just sitting. I packed healthy snacks and lunches which helped limit how much we ate out but I am pretty sure I will have a gain this week. I think the biggest culprit will be the teas & cafe mochas I like to sip while I am driving. I tried to limit them but the l... Sun, 21 Apr 2013 17:49:16 EST Week 6: Day 7 - Six Week Recap My biggest accomplishment for this past six weeks is that I stuck with it. I tend to start strong and then fade on out. I think having it broken down into a six week section really helped when I felt like giving up because I knew there was an end in sight. I kept on thinking of running a race and how, no matter how tired you are, you give it all you got at the end to cross that finish line running. That's kind of how I felt about this past six weeks. Started strong, faded some in the mid... Mon, 15 Apr 2013 09:51:13 EST Week 6: Day 6 - Not Too Bad It was not too bad of a day. The weather this morning was beautiful and hubby and I went out for a nice little walk. Good thing we didn't put it off until later since the snow blew in verociously by the afternoon. The power was flickering off and on all afternoon but thankfully we didn't lose it. The rest of the day I just puttered around the house, doing a few odds and ends and trying to get myself ready for our upcoming trip. I want to pack all our lunches and snacks so we don't have t... Sun, 14 Apr 2013 10:26:59 EST Week 6: Day 5 - A Day of Didn'ts I didn't exercise. I didn't track what I ate. I didn't even watch what I ate. I didn't meet any of my goals for today. I just kind of threw it all out the window for the day 225 I can't undo my didn'ts but I can make sure that it doesn't become a pattern.

WEEK 1 248
~Down 2.4 lbs.

WEEK 2 248
~Down 2 lbs. / 4.4 lbs. total

WEEK 3 248
~Down 1.4 lbs. / 5.8 lbs. total

WEEK 4
~Up 0.2 lbs.... Sat, 13 Apr 2013 10:30:57 EST Week 6: Day 4 - This & That It was a busy day today. I worked at the store in the morning and it was definately one of the busier days there. I worked with a new gal and she was awesome. Then I ran a bunch of errands in the afternoon and got some groceries. I didn't have time to work out in the morning and by the time I got home I didn't really feel like working out but I did anyways.

WEEK 1 248
~Down 2.4 lbs.
WEEK 2 248
~Down 2 lbs. / 4.4 lbs. total

WEEK 3 ... Fri, 12 Apr 2013 08:07:18 EST Week 6: Day 3 - Planning Ahead I am half way through my last week of my six week plan. I am then taking a week off as we will be travelling. When I get back it will be a whole new ball game. The first week hubby will be away at a training session and when he gets back he will be starting shifts for the next 6-8 weeks. That always makes things a challenge. As well, my daughter will be home for the summer. I am so looking forward to having her home. However, she hasn't been well so I know there will be doctors appoint... Thu, 11 Apr 2013 08:00:53 EST Week 6: Day 2 - Weekend in the Week Today went a little differently than planned. We attended a memorial for our neighbor who passed away earlier in the year. Then, since hubby was home and son had taken some time off work we spent the afternoon playing board games and then went out for supper and a movie in the evening. It felt like a weekend instead of a weeday.

WEEK 1 248
~Down 2.4 lbs.
WEEK 2 248
~Down 2 lbs. / 4.4 lbs. total

WEEK 3 248
~Down 1.... Mon, 8 Apr 2013 07:40:18 EST Week 5: Day 6 - I'd Rather Be Doing Something Else I am struggling with my exercise. It's not that I don't want to exercise, it's just that when I am exercising I am thinking of all the other things I could be doing with that time. Seriously, washing walls, scrubbing baseboards, working in the yard - the list goes on and on. And no, I am not a compulsive cleaner - lol. It's just that there are so many things that need doing and there's only so much time and I only have so much energy. They say that when you lose weight and exercise you ... Sun, 7 Apr 2013 09:37:21 EST Week 5: Day 5 – Just Plugging Along No great insights today. No “aha” moments. Just plugged along making good choices and kept busy all day. Sat, 6 Apr 2013 08:43:45 EST Week 5: Day 4 – Off Day I spent a good part of the day in the city doing some shopping. I didn’t track my food today. I don't have a good excuse other than the fact it was due to pure laziness on my part. I didn’t get any exercise in other than walking around the stores and then lugging everything into the house from the vehicle and putting it all away. Back on track today.

WEEK 1 248
~Down 2.4 lbs.

WEEK 2 248
~Down 2 lbs. / 4.4 lbs. total

WEEK 3 ... Fri, 5 Apr 2013 07:50:50 EST Week 5: Day 3 – Fitting It All In I find it frustrating. If I am getting in all the exercise then other things I want to do aren’t getting done. If I am getting other things done I am not getting in all the exercise I want. I know I can have it all – I just have to figure out how to make it all work within a day. So, I once again have been tweaking my daily schedule and hopefully this time I have the magic formula that makes it all work.

WEEK 1 248
~Down 2.4 lbs.

WEEK 2 248 ... It obviously didn’t even cross my mind last week that this weekend would include not one, but two holidays and that hubby would be off for 5 days. Should have thought it through as I would have adjusted my goals a bit to accommodate. Sat, 30 Mar 2013 09:39:19 EST Week 4: Day 4 – Changing It Up I am going to try changing things up a bit. Normally I have a light amount to eat shortly after I get up before I exercise. I am wondering if I need more food in my body before I exercise. The other day I came in and was literally shaking until I sat down and had some breakfast. So, I am moving my exercise to later in the morning, after I have had a full breakfast and then will have the light snack after my workout.
