One long one of 11 minutes, and the rest in the 4 minute range. But overall about half run and half walk. It takes longer to get it back every time I think. I'm just going for healthy and improved fitness... But I told myself I could do better than that, and changed I think I can like the little engine that could...and my next intervals were 10 and 12, so all things considered not so bad, but I did have to keep up a steady stream of pep talk to myself. I focused on just sustaining not necessarily going fast, but rather just being able to keep going. My average pace was 4.4. I managed a 10 minute interval, a 4 minute interval, and a 13 minute interval at the end, so more running than walking, hooray! Last week I managed 4 days in a row of exercise. I was hoping for 5 but Friday morning I was just wiped. Perhaps going from no exercise in months to 5 days in a row was a bit ambitious for week one, LOL. <em>521</em... Mon, 22 Feb 2016 12:07:59 EST Run #256 The screw it run... Woke up at 5:30 this morning as the wind was howling, and it howled for two hours, then it stopped. I was secretly hoping it would rain by 7:300 because I didn't really want to go for a run, but told myself I shouldn't blow it this soon trying to get back on it. So I got up and went. It wasn't great, but it was ok. It just felt like a lot of work. My average speed was about 4.1 and I went out for about 30 minutes. Go figure my mp3 player battery died 9 minutes in, so it was just me and the pavement and my breath, and that made it a little harder. I've been hovering around 160-162 for months. This morning I weighed in at 166.2. And I got 4 days of exercise this week, having decided to start up again. And I actually ate mostly well. Fri, 2 Oct 2015 20:48:41 EST Run 249 & 250 Workin' hard Well, the exercise went to heck again after August 3, and I finally got out for two runs this week, Wednesday and Friday. The time off sure didn't do me any favors. They were hard, but it was good to get back out and exercise, and I know I will improve again. I sure can't run 3 miles right now though. Actually I can't even run a full one. But I kept my speed up and averaged 4.2 on Wednesday and 4.4 on Friday. I think Friday I did more walking that running so not sure how that worked out, but... I amused myself by doing circles in the park, which has several paths that essentially make a small, medium, and large loop. So I did the loops clockwise and then counterclockwise. Today I averaged 4.5 mph for my run again, so I am acclimating again and enjoying it. It is nice to be outside and not at the gym. I am seriously thinking of dropping the gym now and putting the money back in my pocket now that I am not injured and the weather is nicer. Had to yell at myself to go work out this morning. Could not face the gym...but outside was nice. I zig zagged through town going up one block and across the next, and so forth, til I'd been about a mile and a half, then came mostly straight back for a total of just over 3 miles. Fri, 22 May 2015 15:42:53 EST Run #241 Feeling hella good Skipped the gym yesterday and just got up and went for a run. 50 minutes at about 4.5 average. Haven't been for a run that long in a while. I've been faster, but I haven't been running that much lately. It felt great. No soreness yesterday or today for that matter. Sure did wear me out yesterday, but in a good way and it improved my mood greatly, which got me through a pretty crap work day. Yay! Thu, 21 May 2015 23:46:27 EST Runs 238-239-40 Outside inside outside Three more runs. Two outside and one inside. There really is a big difference between the treadmill and the road. Outside the scenery is much nicer and the air is fresher. On the treadmill it is easier to hold your pace, as the machine helps you. On the road it was harder because my muscles were trying to cramp a little. Also I discovered I have a definite groove when running outside, and it is very hard to go slower no matter what my legs say. But I expected to hurt afterward, and was pleasa... Wed, 13 May 2015 18:57:27 EST Run #237 Yet more treadmill Yesterday I did beginner speed work out 3 again. I modified it again to fit me. The difference between workout 2 and 3 is amazing. They really need a workout 2A or something. Workout two tops out at like 4 mph, and workout 3 goes to 6.2. Seriously?! So Friday I topped out at 5mph on workout 3, and Monday (yesterday) I was able to do 5.2. My blood pressure is borderline high and my weight is up 10lbs I don't want, so it is time for the crack down. I just topped 160 again this week....the weight I said I never wanted to go over again (still less than what I started at. It's my new "max" weight). I kept my top speed a 6.0, which felt quite challenging enough. I kept the incline settings the same as the machine wanted, I just slowed it down once it started going over 6mph. It was still a great and challenging workout, without the worry of getting dizzy, or flying off the machine. I topped out at 6.2, LOL. It was tough, but I did most of it, except for having to slow the machine down some and reduce the incline some on the second interval of 6.5. The trouble is, I'd rather run but if I don't go to the gym I don't get my physical therapy exercises in the keep my neck in shape and not painful. Right now I haven't done my exercises in about 3 weeks and I can feel myself starting to pay for that. Also, running sure is hard on the body. Recovery from a row or a bike is nearly painless. So I'm off to physical therapy, with my first appointment for evaluation on the 23rd. Meantime I went to aikido last night and although my shoulder felt a bit fragile I trained with no issues. Today I cranked the rowing machine back up and had a good row. Since nothing I do seems to change the way my shoulder feels I decided to stop babying it. I don't get the sense I am hurting it any. I've done something to my shoulder (dr. appt today) so I only spent 15 minutes on the rowing machine at a lowered resistance because I didn't want to stress anything. I couldn't face the recumbent after that so I decided to try a run on the treadmill, which I've never done. I made it 25 minutes, which was longer than I expected to be able to run. I'd like to be between 145 and 150, ideally around 145 but my body seems to really like 147-148 and I think I can live with that.
