Figured there was little chance of sleeping, what with being keyed up after the Michigan Ohio State game (freakin' zebras), but they said to turn off the cell phone, so I did, and then the lights went out and so did I. Actually, I fell asleep before they started the study, since when I got there, their technicians were still busy with other patients. Wed, 16 Nov 2016 11:56:47 EST Climbed a staircase while chatting with a United States Senator http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6249663 Went to a election campaign event Monday night, held at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI, featuring a trio of US Senators, Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters of Michigan, and Cory Booker of New Jersey, along with Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, and an actress from the Walking Dead, Danai Gurira, who plays Michonne. Not having ever watched that show, I didn't know who she was. I did recognize Congresswoman Dingell, who very briefly chatted with the guy in line in front of me as we waite... Tue, 11 Oct 2016 00:16:11 EST 210.2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6245390 Been a few weeks since I've thrown a weight on here. I've actually seesawed a bit the last three weeks. The first of those weeks, starting a new job, ran into a bit of a buzzsaw that made things very stressful right off the bat, and the weight dipped as low as 208-something for a moment. But then things evened out and I saw a 214 again. Not really sure that stress is an adequate reason for that swing, but it happened. Seems like the number has leveled off, just a bit lower than my previous re... Sun, 2 Oct 2016 22:45:24 EST I hate paying the fat tax http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6244690 You know, the one where you go to a fantastic concert, and you're thinking you'd like to buy a t-shirt, something you don't do too often at shows, but this band, they're that incredibly amazing, that you want to buy a shirt, and then you look at the prices, and it's 20 bucks for small, medium, large, and extra large, but 25 for XXL and above?

I'm not ragging on the band I went to see last night in particular, I see it often, and it makes a certain economic sense as the bands are p... Let's see if this positive trajectory survives the next few weeks. I'll be heading down to Atlanta just after Labor Day for the ProgPower festival, the concert fest I've gone down for the last few years. Right now, my sleep schedule is pretty much perfect for that fest, going to sleep way too late and sleeping in late, too.

However, was contacted on wednesday about a possible job thing, a local-ish gig, that if it comes to fruition could last up to 9 mon... Sat, 20 Aug 2016 16:01:38 EST 214.6 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6215882 Been a couple weeks, and there's a persistent first step loss. That's cool, I guess. Get to go back to the doctor's office tomorrow, a annual physical, but it seems like the visit to discuss the BP and A1C and diet stuff with the nurse a couple of weeks ago took care of most of the questions I would have had for my PCP. Trying to scribble up a list of questions, and coming up relatively dry. Figure I have 10 hours to dream up something useful, minus the 8 or so I'll be asleep.

<BR... I mean, me. The one in my bathroom, I mean. Funny thing, the scale this morning showed a number 5 and a half pounds less than the one reflected in the previous blog post title, which makes me want to think that either that one was wrong, or this one today was. Surely, two visits to the didn't make that much difference? Or maybe ... This is after the month in nebraska, and after a week traipsing around the Upper Peninsula of Michigan chasing waterfalls, and visiting friends in Wisconsin. I only came back from the latter because I had an appointment at the doctor's office to discuss the blood tests, etc, mentioned in a prior blog. Come to think of it, I only went on that latter trip after said appointment was delayed a week because of staff sho... Wed, 27 Jul 2016 19:42:55 EST haven't been here in a month http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6202200 previous times I didn't scribble a blog for a month, I'd visited in between times, sometimes even doing so often. But this time....I seriously haven't logged into sp in the past month, probably since I did that going to the world series blog. A big part of that is because I barely used my computer in that time, as I've been on the road, and largely just used my phone, or occasionally my kindle to interact with the digital world. Mon, 11 Apr 2016 01:10:08 EST relapse http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6127415 so the last time I posted, I reported getting over whatever had been ailing me for two weeks at that time. And then I went on a little Ohio adventure, catching Michigan playing in the NCAA tournament in Dayton, and then scooting over to Columbus to see the Detroit Red Wings, and having a puck fall out of the sky at my feet. Fun trip. But then I got home (last Friday) and my throat was kinda scratchy, and then I've been coughing all week. Sick and tired of being sick and tired. Thinking I'm goi... Actually, I'm wondering if it isn't just an injury situation now, from clearing my throat so often over the last couple of weeks. And really, it isn't just the sore throat, it's the fact that the throat bone is connected to the ear bone, and it hurts my ear to swallow, making things like eating a little, or more than a little annoying.

Yeah, I went to the doctor, and they (med student and the d... Now, you blow your nose a little too hard, and get momentarily dizzy, and you wonder. Or you get spun around while playing pickleball and the court whirls a bit, and you wonder. This crap is no joke. None of these moments, of which there have been three in the past week, and sporadic moments therebefore, have really felt like how it did in December. But you can't help but wonder. Really annoyi... Tue, 16 Feb 2016 11:47:37 EST made it to the gym yesterday! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6091830 And man am I ever sore today! Oh well, beats sitting around like a lump. Ended up going to see a hockey game yesterday, since after having lumped around the previous couple of weeks, actually feeling like going out and doing something was such a welcome feeling, I went and overdid it. So there I was at the Joe Louis Arena, nodding off a bit as the Red Wings skated past the Florida Panthers. Anyway.

A couple of friends ended up on the contract opportunity I passed up for not knowing... Tue, 9 Feb 2016 12:23:53 EST Same stuff, different week http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6089857 That cold was dying two Mondays ago, but it didn't get the memo, and its remnant lingers on, still. Worst is how my ears are all clicky, and that old trick to clear the ears of pressure (hold your nose and blow) is occasionally useful, and occasionally making it feel like the ear passages get closed off, and I can only wait until the pressure subsides, which occurs with a whistling noise. Never experienced that before, it's very weird. But not painful, uncomfortable as it might be.

... Sun, 7 Feb 2016 08:29:08 EST out, darned snot http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6083944 Ok, so that title isn't exactly Shakespeare. I could have got a little closer if it wasn't for the swear filter. But there you have it. As has been the case for the last few days, I'm 90% over that cold, but that last little bit of phlegm stuck in the throat won't go away. Still haven't made it to the gym, although that snot monster is kind of an excuse by this point. So did my dad. Mine mostly went away, though I am still hacking. Dad's got worse, so it's his turn to the ER. Ain't it fun? The Doc kinda hinted that my dad could possibly go home, and Dad just coughed in his face. Not deliberately, mind you, he'd much rather go home, of course, but that kind of put an end to that thoug... Rather, I was given an opportunity to take a short contract, and I was the one doing the denying, because it involves a part of the software that I have no experience with. Namely, the project had to do with helping out docs and nurses who are starting to use the surgery and anesthesia module. Been a weird week, since Monday night, I heard about two people I know falling victim to one or the other. The death was a thoroughly unexpected one, I mean the guy was 34, prime of his life and all that, just recently engaged, etc. I'd only met him in person once, but back in the day, communicated near daily with him, and others via a message board. Even if it's been a few years, the news of his passing hit me hard.

That's Nick on the right in this video. He was a t... Also known as the Detroit Auto Show, the biggest in the country, as far as I know. I went last year as well and this time it wasn't quite as good. Maybe that's because there were fewer concept cars, or vintage cars, as compared to the previous edition. Not sure. In any case, got a good few steps in, even if pace was comparable to a snail.

Unlike last year, I went with people. Also unlike last year, I didn't have any pulled muscle... I did see those animals coming onto the road ahead of me, and was able to stop with plenty of room to spare. Nice of them to cross at a well lit area, really. And 6 of them did just that, with another following a few seconds later, and just when I thought it was safe to start moving, there's one more standing on the sidewalk, looking around and eventually looking my way. I flicked my lights, and he kind of nodded (I'm not even kidding), and crossed the road at that... Thu, 14 Jan 2016 22:55:38 EST More ugly weather http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6067492 Days like these, I'm temporarily ok that there's nowhere I have to be in the morning. 4 inches of snow overnight, and people have apparently forgotten how to drive in the stuff. If we were in Huntsville, Alabama, to pick a random southern town, I might understand. But in Southeastern Michigan? The former happened, and without X Rays, since apparently that did happen during my prior visit, without my remembering that it happened, and so it was a very easy visit, with a quick scrape by the hygienist, ending with a "you got good teeth, dude" from the dentist himself. Yeah, he's kinda informal like that.

Steppin... Fri, 8 Jan 2016 17:26:24 EST well, that wasn't much of a streak http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6063521 I did make it to the gym on Wednesday, albeit at 8 PM rather than earlier, as I'd intended. Today, the plan was to wander over there late afternoon, to play pickleball. But I fell asleep instead. Not the usual light nap that I get when I doze off in the afternoon. Instead, I was completely out of it. Even after I was awake, I couldn't get up for a while, not in a "I'm sick" way, just more of a "this is the deep sleep that I wonder if I'm getting at night" kind of way.

Of course, t... Wed, 6 Jan 2016 02:15:59 EST Wait...where did Monday go? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6061359 So I was going to attempt scribbling something on a daily basis, but Monday did a Monday thing and slip slided away before I managed to scribble anything, so that effort didn't last long. Well, at least there's no pressure now, right?

Apparently, I've discovered a limit to what I'm willing to scribble about in this space, in the realm of politics. And since it's an election year, I'm going to have to determine exactly how rigid that limit is, since that would restrict quite a lot o... Of course not. Too many things on my mind, too many grave conjectures....of who am I kidding, I was watching a couple of episodes of Bones. Nothing like a little murder and mayhem and will they or won't they fictional sexual tension to start off a new annum, right? Not playing steadily, due both to resting, and to a really good turnout today, had to take turns. But got in a hour and a half-ish of play. Too bad the quality of play I was displaying had all the grace of a giraffe with a sprained neck. Wed, 23 Dec 2015 17:50:22 EST play on, play off http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6051442 Went to play pickleball today, since I wasn't too badly sore, and felt pretty decent otherwise. It was one of those days where I played a game, and sat out the next, partly from being tired, partly from feeling a little off. At least, unlike a couple of weeks ago, I wasn't seeing double, especially when I was hitting from the baseline. However, I was having issues seeing the ball when I was up close to the net. Darn thing was coming in too fast.

Somewhere between that, and just be... Tue, 22 Dec 2015 23:34:24 EST box box box the night away http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6050998 Never made it to the gym Monday. Heck, I never made it out into the dreary day at all. But all was not laziness.

Resurrected an old toy, for, as far as I can recall, the first time in three years, or to put it another way, the first time since I moved back to Michigan - pulled my Wii out of the box it's been sitting in. I thought about it last Wednesday, when I went to my brother's house. He's got one, that probably hasn't been used in about that same time, that I was thinking that... Tue, 22 Dec 2015 00:50:18 EST decent week http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6050423 Ventured out a few times last week, so that's good. Had fewer dizzy spells, that's good too. Watched Star Wars, that was excellent. Have done no exercise worth mentioning in quite a long time, so that's not so good. Had knockoff fruit loops for dinner, so adult of me, I know. Just realized that I didn't put the laundry into the dryer, so I'll be right back. I'm back now, so I might as well continue. The Red Wings won, and it wasn't even a one goal game, so that's different. I'm thinking of go... Sun, 20 Dec 2015 22:16:38 EST Guess I'm not cut out to be a pirate http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6046433 While I'm not quite on an even keel yet, it's feeling better than yesterday, which wasn't worse than the day before. Got my eyes checked, and at least there isn't a separate eye/optic nerve issue beyond the vertigo. Kind of want to go out and enjoy the 63 degree temps, but not sure I want to drive anywhere yet. But it's a better spot than a couple of days ago, when there was no way I was driving to the eye doc's office, because things were whirly.

A bit scared to exercise though, ... Sat, 12 Dec 2015 14:38:09 EST hello hello http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6045859
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98W9Q
uMq-2k

So U2 did a song called Vertigo a while ago (2004) that's apparently about being in some crappy nightclub and wishing to be elsewhere, but it includes a line in the chorus saying,
"I'm at a place called vertigo, it's everything I wish I didn't know", and y'know, I totally identify with that line these past couple weeks, because vertigo is awful (the malady, not the song, which I kinda like).

I'm a litt... Fri, 11 Dec 2015 10:27:34 EST back to being a bum http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6037377 last time I posted a weight on SP was in early september, right after being sick for over a week, and it was a nice 197. Well, relatively nice, anyway. Today, I posted a now current weight, and it's a not nice in any sense 210. Well, I suppose there is one sense - I actually thought it was going to be a 215. Besides, when I went to see the doctor on Saturday (thumb tendonitis...painful!!), i clocked in at 220 on their scale (with shoes and jeans and sweatshirt, granted, but, geez, 220...), so... Tue, 24 Nov 2015 20:27:55 EST so the weekend plans just went out the window http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6023436 Got a text this afternoon, telling me about how the band Battlecross was playing a couple of shows in Michigan, opening for a big name band. And I looked at it, and thought, too bad, I've never seen that band, and I wouldn't mind catching the battlecross boys again, as it's been a while. If you've been reading along for a while, you might recognize that name as the guys from whom I won a guitar last year.

Out of curiosity, I looked up where else the big name band was playing, and l...
