Workout # 20 was my do-over for the 10 miler that was supposed to have happened last week. I was really pumped about this run because I was going to run in one of my favorite places in the whole state of Texas—Texas A&M University Campus!

I made sure to get up early in order to try to beat the heat so I got up around 6:30 and was out the door around 7. I drove to campus, found a parking spot and headed out on my running tour of campus (it was a little before 7:30 when I started)... Wed, 9 Jul 2014 15:09:47 EST Marathon Training Wk 6...4th of July This past week, I took a break from my marathon training to regroup after the past 5 weeks. I have built in 4 extra weeks into my training plan and after the supposed to be 10 mile run the week before, I felt it would be a good idea to step back and tackle that week again.

Workout #19 ended up being a 5K with my sister in law. She has been working on her running again and I wanted to support her efforts by being with her during the Firecracker 5K on July 4th. We ended up finishing ... Tue, 8 Jul 2014 16:03:47 EST Marathon Training Wk 5...It's not all Rainbows & Butterflies Workout # 18 was supposed to be a 10 mile long run. Because we were at my dad’s house for the weekend, I was already out of my normal running element. I got up Sunday morning around my usual time and helped my dad make breakfast. Once we finished breakfast, I got the kids ready for the day, got myself and my stuff ready for my run and then headed out to do my 10 miles.

I was doing pretty well as I was finishing up miles 1, 2 and 3 even with the hillier terrain. Around mile 4 is w... Thu, 3 Jul 2014 17:46:34 EST Marathon Training Wk 5...My FASTEST run EVER! Workout # 17 was a 35 minute tempo run. Due to us going out of town for the weekend, I had to run this workout early Friday morning. I decided to do my usual 3 mile route at the park by my house with a little extra tacked onto the end to make up the last few minutes. My fastest 5K time is 32:14 (10:23 min/mile pace) but more recesntly I have been running around 34 minute 5Ks.

I started my run off by slowly increasing my pace through the first half mile or so until I was running a... Tue, 1 Jul 2014 10:29:41 EST Marathon Training Wk 5...A Fast 5 Miler Usually I post weekly updates with all of my workouts combined into one nice, neat little post but this week I really felt like each workout deserved its own entry.

Workout # 16 was a 5 mile run. Because of thunderstorms last week, I had to reschedule this run for Wednesday evening. Because of the rain, the temperatures were a little cooler (think mid 80s instead of 90s!) and either I was feeling well rested or a little feisty because I was able to finish my 5 miles in 58:14 (10:... Mon, 30 Jun 2014 17:04:49 EST Marathon Training Week 4...Running in the Rain (PICS!) 171 days until the Dallas Marathon which also means that I just finished Week 5 of my training! Here’s how it went:

Workout #14: 5.27 Mile Run – I ended up doing this run in the evening at a park by my house. When I headed out, I really thought that this run was not only going to be a wet one but I was wondering if I was going to make it back to my truck before the sun completely set. It ended up only sprinkling on me at the very beginning of my run and I made it back to the truck ... Wed, 25 Jun 2014 12:41:21 EST Marathon Training Week 4 Recap (PICS) This past week on my training plan was what is called a "stepback" week. These weeks are used as a little break in your training in order to gather strength to continue on.

Workout #11: 3.31 Mile Run. I decided to head out to a local park and run my 3 with AMC in the jogging stroller and my husband by my side. Because we went earlier in the evening than I would normally go so that we would not have AMC out too late, I was not able to wait as long as I normally would after I eat di... Wed, 18 Jun 2014 15:20:14 EST Marathon Training Week 2 Recap (PICS) This past week was Week 2 of marathon training. I am really enjoying the focused runs and then having days on my bike. Most of my runs are around my neighborhood which is quite hilly. While sometimes I just want to run on a flat service, I know that these hills will only make me stronger. After only 2 weeks, I am already feeling a difference and am looking forward to what the next several weeks will hold.

Workout #6: 4.06 Mile Run. I have chosen to follow Hal Higdon's Marathon 3 plan because it is 24 weeks long (instead of the usual 18) and it only has 3 days of running. So far I like the program but I am only a week into it!

Workout #1: 3.2 Mile Easy Run (This is after the run)

Workout #2: 45 m... Wed, 4 Jun 2014 17:14:37 EST I'm Taking the Plunge... In 197 days I will be toeing the line of the Dallas Marathon on my way to finishing my first full marathon. This is something I have been dreaming of doing for several years now and I am finally going for it. This decision has come after a lot of prayer and pep talks from my sweet husband. Even though I have this huge dream of running the Boston Marathon, actually running a single marathon has always scared the mess out of me. Running a marathon has always seemed like something that a hard ... Fri, 30 May 2014 16:30:01 EST Finishline...More Than a Line on the Pavement While watching coverage of the Boston Marathon on Monday and seeing Meb cross the finishline as the first American man to win the race since 1983, it brought tears to my eyes. For this to happen at the 2014 Boston after the tragedy that happened last year, this finish was huge! It represented healing and perseverance and it reinforced a revelation I had a few years back. While the line on the pavement may seem like just a finishline to some, to most runners and myself it represents so much mo... This year my schedule finally allowed it and it did not disappoint!

We got to the race site at about 2 ½ hours early for packet pick up. Thu, 3 Apr 2014 12:03:23 EST The Past Month The past month has been a whirlwind of craziness that all started when our landlord gave us 30 days notice on March 1. Moving anytime is stressful but trying to do so in such a short amount of time is just ridiculous. Luckily we found something and were all moved in time but we are still working navigating our way in and around boxes. The kids seem to be settling into their new schools and we are quickly finding a routine again. Now, that things are settling and my knee is feeling better (it ... Tue, 11 Feb 2014 16:20:03 EST New Orleans R&R Here I come! Sunday was my last long run before the New Orleans Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon. I ended with 8.2 miles in 1:35. I made myself run at my slow comfortable pace so I am happy with my time. The run was beautiful because I was able to go to White Rock Lake (my favorite place in Dallas) and then meet up with my kiddos and husband afterwards. After the cold temperatures we had during the previous week, Sunday was BEAUTIFUL.

<img src=" Wed, 29 Jan 2014 16:30:02 EST 2013 in Review I know we are already over a week into 2014 but I was finally able to sit down and get some statistics from 2013 and I thought I would share:

Jan 11, 2013: 187 pounds
Jan 8, 2014: 157 pounds

Running Stats:
I ran 401.27 miles total (I set a goal to run 312)
I ran the most miles in September (54.67)
I ran the fewest miles in June (19.64)
I ran 5 half marathons (and PRed at my December half with a time of 2:35:22)
My fastest run was a 4 mile ru... Wed, 8 Jan 2014 11:45:24 EST A PR in Aggieland! (PICS!) This past weekend started out a little rocky. The Dallas area was blanketed with ice last Thursday night which caused school closures, business closures and even the cancellation of the Dallas Marathon. Lucky for me I was not registered to do the Dallas half marathon but I was registered to run the BCS (Bryan-College Station) half marathon on Sunday.

After spending the day at home on Friday with the kids and Scott, we decided that we would try to drive to College Station Saturday a... Tue, 10 Dec 2013 17:27:14 EST Rt 66 Half Marathon Race Report (A PR & Pics!!) Yesterday was the Route 66 Half Marathon. This race may have been my 16th half marathon but it was my first race out of state and the first race that I have been very focused in my training. I knew going into the race that I had a VERY good shot at setting a new PR (my fastest was 2:45:13) and possibly even come close to finishing in 2:30. So needless to say, I was very excited about this race.

As soon as we were 10 days out, I started checking the weather to see what was in store... Mon, 25 Nov 2013 17:26:38 EST Day 45 Rt 66 Challenge: Changes in Attire Due to the predicted weather in Tulsa, I have had to make a few adjustments to my choice of race day apparel. Last week when I looked at the weather it said that there would be a low of 32 and a high of 42 with no chance of precipitation. I called my sister in law and asked her if she could mail me one of her Under Armour Cold Gear shirts (she used to live and run in Michigan) so that I could use that as my base layer for the half marathon. She of course did and they arrived yesterday!
... Thu, 21 Nov 2013 15:36:19 EST Day 44 Rt 66 Challenge: The Nerves &Anxiousness Have Begun I am officially 3 days out from the Route 66 Half Marathon and the nerves and anxiousness have already started setting in.

Because this race is out of state for me, I have already started my packing list. I have planned out my race clothes, set up my playlist on my phone (I usually just listen to the radio on my long runs but there were some specific songs that I have come to love listening to while running and wanted to make sure I heard them during the race) and figured out what... Wed, 20 Nov 2013 16:31:44 EST A Day of Remembrance While this blog may not have anything to do with my running, it does however involve something else that very dear to me…my husband.

14 years ago at around 6 in the morning, I was awakened in my dorm room at Stephen F. Austin University by a phone call from my mom. Listening to the phone ring, I was really annoyed because it was so early and I could not believe she would call me that early to discuss what I thought would be my transcripts (I was in the process of applying to trans... Mon, 18 Nov 2013 13:18:41 EST Day 37 Rt 66 Challenge: Why Didn't I Think of That!? This morning after checking my email, I noticed that one of my Sparkfriends commented on my last blog. Over the last few blogs, I have talked about the shin pain that I have been having and how it has kept me from running. This person gave me the suggestion to use a foam roller on my calf muscle since a tight calf could be the cause of my pain. OMG! Why had I not thought of that! I immediately pulled out my foam roller and went to town on my calf muscle. OH WOW it hurt! Not the hurt of an inj... Wed, 13 Nov 2013 15:58:05 EST Day 36 Rt 66 Challenge: An Easy Going 6 Miles Yesterday afternoon I decided to see how I felt after a longer run since I have had problems with my shin 2 weeks ago. I picked a 6 mile out and back course on a trail that follows along a nearby lake because it would be easier on my leg than running on pavement or concrete. The added bonus was that my husband could take AMC and ARC to the playground while I ran. I was a little nervous so I chose to go out at my comfortable pace just to work on getting the miles in and get a feel for the run.... Mon, 11 Nov 2013 18:04:33 EST Day 33 Rt 66 Challenge: A Week off Presents a Surprise After a routine 4 mile run about a week and a half ago, I started having pain in my right shin. I stretched, iced and rested it for the last week and a half until I was able to go a couple days pain free. That was probably a little long but I wanted to make sure it was better before I ran on it again.

After reviewing my running log, I realized that my shoes had over 300 miles on them so I was pretty positive that they were the cause. So Wednesday evening when I decided that I woul... This first picture is from my honeymoon in 2004. I am between 210 and 225 pounds. I actually do not know excactly because I avoided scales. This was before I found running. In fact, it is several years before I started working on developing a healthy lifestyle and found running. I look at this picture and it makes me sad because I know that g... Thu, 7 Nov 2013 17:34:08 EST Day 15 Rt 66 Challenge: I AM an ATHLETE! This past Saturday, I went for my schedule 10 mile training run. Throughout last week, I kept having doubts that I could even run the full 10 miles much less do it in less than 2 hours (the goal I set to keep me on track to run a 2:30 Route 66 Half Marathon).

Did I run all 10? YES!
Did I run all 10 in under 2 hours? YES, I did it in 1:49!

At that pace, I would not have just PRed, I would have done so by 20 minutes and therefore smashing through my goal of 2:30! WOW!... Mon, 21 Oct 2013 16:42:23 EST Day 11 Rt 66 Challenge: Bring on Fall! I have been watching the weather religiously the last couple days. Not only have I been watching the rain come through but the colder temperatures that have decided to follow. I have been lucky so far in that I have missed any major rain while on my runs (I will run in the rain if I have to but it is not my favorite thing to do!).

This morning there was no rain forcasted but there were temperatures in the 40s! I must have been more excited about this than I realized because I woke... Today though, it is officially official...I am a registered runner of the Route 66! This just makes me even more excited! Things are starting to happen and I cannot wait to toe that starting line and let myself shine. Over the last few months of training for the Route 66 Half Marathon I have had some glorious moments both on the scale and with my running. I have discovered that the more my running improves, the better I feel and the more excited I am to get out the door at 5:30 am to go for a run. Don't get me wrong, seeing the numbers... If you do not know anything about this race it is a 10 mile race with 20 bands along the course. When I heard about this race, I knew it was a race I wanted to do. I talked it over with my friend and we decided to make it a girl's weekend getaway.

We drove to Austin on Sunday, picked up our packets, checked into our hotel, found a yummy place for pasta and visited with some friends before turning in for the night. Tue, 16 Apr 2013 11:00:35 EST Feb Reflections (GREAT month!) and What's to Come in March Let me just start by saying that this morning I got up and weighed myself just like any other Friday but to my amazement, I had not only hit my 20 pound loss mark but I surpassed it by 1 whole pound! The last time I weighed what I do right now was when I was 25 weeks pregnant with AMC bringing me to 13 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight!! This being said, I have officially earned my first weight loss reward of new running socks and a pedicure!!

So Pretty & Pink!
<img sr... Fri, 1 Mar 2013 18:11:46 EST Cowtown Half Marathon: My 14th! (PICS!!) On Sunday, I participated in my 7th Cowtown Half Marathon and my 14th overall. I was really excited about this race because it was the fifth in a five year medal series. Back in 2009 (their 30th Anniversary), the Cowtown designed a large medal that was made up of five different pieces (each piece being finishers' medals through their 35th Anniversary in 2013) that when assembled together they would form a star. I have earned the other four pieces and would be running for the 5th and final pi... Tue, 26 Feb 2013 17:01:16 EST Hot Chocolate 5K: A disappointing morning turned AMAZING! (PICS!) On Saturday, I participated in the Hot Chocolate 5K. The morning started early like any other race morning. We got up, got ready and were out the door over an hour before we were supposed to be at the race location for a 7:30 start (this drive would normally take us 30 to 45 minutes). As we were getting closer to Fair Park (about 7 to 8 miles away), we ran into HEAVY traffic. At first, I was not too worried because we still had 45 minutes to get to the race but my anxiety level started to ris... Wed, 13 Feb 2013 14:40:36 EST Running Through the Pain Two nights ago I went for my scheduled 3 mile run (well, it is 3.33 but whose counting right :-P). The run was going pretty well and I was feeling pretty good until I got to the 2 mile mark. At this point, I started feeling the oh so familiar stinging sensation of a blister on my right heel. I had a couple of options; I could 1) Stop my run, pull up my sock and walk the rest of the way, 2) Stop and call S to come and get me, or 3) Suck it up and continue on my way. I chose to just continue go... Thu, 31 Jan 2013 11:32:28 EST The Jogging Stroller's FIRST race w/a BIG Surprise (PICS!) Yesterday, I ran in the Jog'r Egg Nog'r 5K. This race will be remembered for a long time because it is the first race I have ever done with my little running buddy and his jogging stroller. I was a little apprehensive before the race began because I am used to being at races with my husband and he was unable to be there so it was just AMC and I (ARC had stayed the night with her friend).

When we got to the race, I made sure AMC was bundled up and had his snacks and water cup. We wa... Sun, 16 Dec 2012 09:02:11 EST New Journal Update & My 13th Half Marathon! (Pics!) It has been 16 days since I started my new journal. When I started the journal, I weighed 198 pounds and both my engagement ring and Aggie ring were too tight and therefore I had to leave them off and put them aside. I have not been that heavy since I was 37 weeks pregnant with my now 14 month old and before that it was about 4 years ago. Since starting the journal, I have lost 8 pounds (my official weigh in is tomorrow morning though...please note that I started my journal the Monday after T... Thu, 13 Dec 2012 15:03:24 EST A Good But Annoying Little Problem Plus Some Currently, I the jeans that I wear do NOT fit anymore. They literally fall off while I am walking and especially if I have to jog or run (think chasing after 14 month old). If I do not pull them up all the time or wear a belt, they WILL go down! This is a good problem I know but the annoying part is that I STILL cannot fit into my smaller size jeans (ok, I can get them zipped but they are NOT cute AT ALL!). Guess this just means that it is belts, workout shorts and pants or my scrub pants unt... Tue, 4 Dec 2012 11:27:27 EST Great Start & its only 7:45! This morning has already started off great and it is only 7:45! I actually pulled myself out of bed this morning and went for my 2 mile run. I was able to leave the stroller at home and get a sense of how my running is coming along after the last few weeks. I discovered this morning that when I run without the stroller (and the 21 pound baby!) I can run 1 FULL mile at a time whereas with the stroller I have only been able to do a 1/2 mile! Go me! I also came to the conclusion that while it wa... Sat, 3 Nov 2012 08:52:11 EST Halloween, Workout & Life Update Yesterday, I started the day off with my scheduled 2 mile run. The run went fairly well except for the fact I was unable to run as much as I did on Monday. My guess as to the reason is because of my cold. I am not too worried about it and am proud to of just gotten out to complete it (especially since then, I have been a busy lady!). Tomorrow, my plan calls for another 2 miler and I am hoping to get out the door without the stroller so I can get an idea of my running progress.

View... Thu, 1 Nov 2012 23:08:34 EST Resting & Measurements Today was a rest day as far as workouts are concerned. However, I am battling a little cold and have been congested and sneezing. Lucky for me, those are the only symptoms I am having and am finding relief with an occasional dose of Advil.

My husband bought us the Beach Body 10 Minute Trainer and we are going to be starting it tomorrow so we took our before photos and measurements this evening. I am really looking forward to this because while I have 3 runs scheduled per week, I wa... Tue, 30 Oct 2012 21:44:57 EST 3 Mile Run & a Small Revelation Today starts Week 2 of my Cowtown Half Training. If you have kept with me you know that I am registered for the Dallas Half on December 9. I signed up for this race back in June and was working towards being able to walk it but as I stated in a previous blog, craziness took over my life for 6 weeks and knocked me off my course. Because of this, I have decided to start my training over and focus on the Cowtown with the hopes of RUNNING all 13.1 miles. I still planning on doing the Dallas Half ... While I LOVE being here and spending time with my family, it does not bode well to healthy eating or working out. However, today I did something I have NEVER done before...I actually USED my running shoes that I brought!

My parents' live out in the country and the roads by their house are not necessarily the safest to go for a walk or jog because of the traffic and... Sat, 27 Oct 2012 20:34:14 EST 2.12 Mile Run this Morning A cold front came in this morning but it did not stop AMC and I going for our run. I bundled him up in the stroller, packed his water and some animal crackers and we went to the Kati Trail.

The run went well. I finished in 31:21 (that is an average of 14:24 per mile). I am happy with that, especially since I was pushing an almost 22 pound baby in a jogging stroller and there were a couple stops to hand him some of his animal crackers!

Here are a few pictures of AMC pla... Fri, 26 Oct 2012 15:10:03 EST Lost My Way but Finding My Way Back I won't even go into what has gone on the last 6 weeks but it has been a whirlwind of crazyness that has caused bad food choices and my workouts not to happen. I even did not do the LIveSTRONG Challenge even though I was registered for it. But that is in the past and the only thing to do now is to pick myself up and start moving forward again.

My sister in law is getting married next September and I have decided that her wedding is a good goal date. I have counted it out and I ha... Thu, 25 Oct 2012 14:36:19 EST Half Marathon Training I registered for the Dallas Half Marathon (formerly White Rock) on December 9. This race will be my 12th Half Marathon overall and 2nd post partum. I have been working on getting back into the swing of training but it definately is a lot different this time around. Most of the miles I have logged and will log will be with my little running buddy riding along in his stroller. While I love the company and the extra calorie burn, I do miss running solo and not having to worry about AMC getting ... Mon, 10 Sep 2012 18:08:21 EST
