ADRIENALINE's SparkPeople Blog ADRIENALINE's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community I know why I want to be fit and healthy I just started Stage 3 on the Spark Coach program and the they want to blog about why I want to maintain my weight.

The answer is simple for me. I have three of the most lovable adorable grandsons on the planet. They are 8 1/2, 5 and 3 1/2. I'm 64 1/2 and I can run, jump, climb and keep up with all three of them and I know that is because of my consistent brisk walking habit and my strength program.

I recently blogged about gaining two lbs and how worried I am about it.... Fri, 2 Sep 2016 14:50:39 EST Why we love SparkPeople Today someone joined my Spark Trivia Fanatics team named SEABEACHRAT. As is my practice I visited her page and gave her a Sparkgoodie Welcome Mat. While I was there I read a note that BARBIEE52 wrote her that really resonated with me. It goes like this:

Imagine there is a bank account that credits your account each morning with $86,400.
It carries over no balance from day to day.
Every evening the bank deletes whatever part of the balance
you failed to use during ... Thu, 1 Sep 2016 16:38:10 EST I know I shouldn't care about the scale Way back before I joined Spark I thought the end all and be all of weight loss was the number on the scale. I have belonged to Weight Watchers for a long time. When I reached my goal, they made me a lifetime member which means I can use the tools online and go to as many meetings as I want for free. I have to stay within 2 pounds of my goal weight to remain a lifetime member. I wanted something that would help me keep my weight inline so I decided that when I retire from my job as an enginee... Wed, 24 Aug 2016 18:16:11 EST Going back to the start I have started to let things lapse a little. 24 I've been grabbing cookies 495 and candy 493 way too much lately and my weight has crept up a little 225 . Just a couple of pounds but more importantly my jeans feel a little tight and I'm uncomfortable.

I have adopted some good activity habits including getting a strength coach 362 and trying to get 250 steps or more in as many hours as I can as well as keeping up my daily b... Fri, 19 Aug 2016 14:51:00 EST Mindful Today we had a nutritionist from Kaiser talk to us about mindful eating. Not much new information but it was presented in an interesting manner. She used a ton of audience participation which made the topic much more interesting. At the end she gave each of us a tangerine. We had to right down how it looked and how it smelled. Then we got to peel it 474 and take out one section and have a small bite, and describe how it tasted. Then a bigger bite and describe how the taste changed... Thu, 14 Jul 2016 17:32:47 EST This week at W.O.W (Women on Weights) Last week we learned some body weight exercises and some machine stuff. This week we did a circuit that really mixed cardio and strength. We did one minute at each station than went on to the next. The stations were Plie Squats, Jumping Jacks, Plank, modified Sit-ups, modified push ups, Jumping rope, curls and flys. Many of these we learned last week. We did one minutes then Alyssa, our trainer, blew a whistle and we moved on to the next. Oh my aching body. Then we went into the weight room a... Wed, 29 Jun 2016 15:27:29 EST Going where I never went before Today I started a new class at my work Fitness Center. It is called W.O.W. Women on weights. All of my previous mistarts into strength training have been too challenging. This one sounds like it could work out. The trainer is a really high energy person named Alyssa. Today was just an informational session. We got a presentation that talked about a lot of things that Spark has taught me already like
Myth: Women who strength train build huge bulky muscles
Myth: Lifting lighter weight... Mon, 13 Jun 2016 19:29:35 EST Great weekend once again Friday I got the best news! I had a bone density test and the results were normal. All of that yogurt is paying off I guess. On Saturday we started the day by joining my walking and fitness group. We walk along the Guadalupe river and are led by two fitness coaches who lead us in stresses and a little strength exercise. Then we rushed over to where my two older grandsons Knox and Tate were playing baseball and T-Ball. My younger son came to watch too with my adorable youngest grandson, Enery.... Mon, 14 Mar 2016 17:38:06 EST What a whirlwind weekend This weekend we had almost too much to do but the weekend flew by and brought me 3 days closer to my retirement next year. On Friday we went to a house concert of one of our local singer-songwriters Michael McNiven who sings folk music with a really humorous twist. Our friends open their home about 6 times a year to showcase singers in a small 50 person venue. It's a great chance to really get to know musicians and hear great music inexpensively. Michael's website is
www.michaelmcnevi... Mon, 29 Feb 2016 15:24:19 EST I'm so thrilled to be a 5% Challenger I have taken part in the 5% challenges for about 3-4 years now. They come up every season and my team is the Teddy Bears. The challenge encourages us to lose 5% of our weight (or maintain if you are in maintenance) and we compete against several other teams to see if we can get more fitness minutes and points for doing healthy things.

The Teddy Bears are the most supportive team on the planet and I always feel encouraged to do as many fitness activity minutes as a I can so I don't... Tue, 19 Jan 2016 18:49:21 EST I love to walk but it's a jungle out there! Yesterday I was pulling my little ice chest on wheels back from the super market. I was crossing the last street and in the middle of the street I heard a bang and I went down like a shot. Some driver wasn't paying attention and while turning into the street I was crossing, hit my ice chest. A guy in another car helped me up and called the cops to the scene. Three policemen showed up and opened a case file.

Thankfully I feel pretty good today despite my crushed yogurts etc. I came... Sat, 19 Dec 2015 17:47:19 EST I did it! I did it! I did it! Way back in January of 2014 I blogged about my step goals.

urnal_individual.asp?blog_id=5588220

Being a hockey puck when I started wearing a pedometer back 2011, I spent a whole first year creating a tremendous challenge for myself. When you start with a yearly average of around 4000 it is really hard to get to a goal of 10,000 steps a day, but yesterday I did it! I finally raised my Lifetime Pedometer Average to 10,000 steps... Fri, 11 Dec 2015 15:18:34 EST December is not a good month to stay Healthy Yesterday my team at work had a bake sale to benefit 2nd Harvest Food Bank and Toys for Tots. I started out as a good girl donating a check before the cakes were put out with the intention of not buying anything but after watching some very callous folks walk by with no intention of any contribution and the fact that someone brought in Peanut butter Oreo Brownies I just had to buy one. On top of that after teasing one of my team mates about stealing the Godiva chocolate basket Raffle prize fr... Thu, 10 Dec 2015 15:10:21 EST What a beautiful way to answer a challenge I love the challenges on SparkPeople. Both the ones that Spark creates like the "Walk this way challenge" and the ones that brilliant Spark friends create like the "5% challenges" that are responsible for me getting to my goal weight and staying there.

Well the Walk this Way challenge for yesterday encouraged us to increase the incline we walk on so My DH and I headed off to Hidden Villa in Los Altos California. We chose a loop that combined three trails. We both like to walk paths... Mon, 23 Nov 2015 13:57:34 EST Maybe I'll get away from the Chocolate Temptress tomorrow I'm still struggling some but tomorrow I'll be changing offices and getting away from the chocolate temptress. I'm really hoping that will save me from myself and get me on the right track!! Today my breakfast was a very healthy Cheerios (original) with frozen blueberries and skim milk. Since then it's been pretzels,a fiber bar, Peanut M & Ms and Trader Joes simply cashews, almonds and cranberries. I'm afraid to put it all in the tracker.

Tonight I'm going to my speaker series Mich... Wed, 18 Nov 2015 20:05:48 EST Tuesday's are a better day for a new beginning I ended up having a fiberone bar for lunch yesterday and a good dinner of Salmon (grilled with no oil) Brown and Wild rice and a huge salad with two kinds of green leafys, carrots, celery, a beet and some grapes. I stayed well in my calorie range and burned a few too. But I still don't feel right

So far this morning. Cheerios with frozen blueberries and skim milk and coffee with nonfat creamer: 234 calories.

I have a half of a tuna sandwich with hummus and pita chips and... Tue, 17 Nov 2015 14:03:54 EST Mondays are good for beginnings! I am not doing so well. This time of the year has historically been very difficult for my pursuit of a healthy lifestyle. My admin not only has a big bowl of assorted enticing candies ( like Hershey, mars and nestle miniatures) She also has a huge apothecary jar filled with peanut M & Ms and she sits right outside my office. In the last two weekends we've had dinners with friends and families and holiday parties all held by people who don't care what temptations they offer. This past weekend ... Mon, 16 Nov 2015 17:23:54 EST I love SparkPeople I play Spark Trivia every day. Today I got one question about nutrition, One about Fitness and One about Motivation. Yesterday there was a question about how to keep food safe, One about health and One about Pilates. The day before there was one about what makes eggs yolks get a dark ring around them. It got me thinking about what a great site this is for maintaining a healthy life style. Every necessary component of health and well being is here and it's all for free!

It has also ... Fri, 13 Nov 2015 13:39:50 EST What do you think? Added sugars bring calories to foods without any nutritional value.
Right now, it’s hard to know how much added sugar is in the foods you buy, but the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is trying to change that. A new labeling rule would add the percent daily value for added sugars to the Nutrition Facts label of packaged foods. The rule isn’t a sure thing yet, but it’s open for public comment and could change food labels in the future.
<img src="http://photosaws.sparkpeop... Mon, 21 Sep 2015 17:35:21 EST I just can't believe it! On Thursday the fitness center at work ran a 5K. Proceeds go to Second Harvest Food Bank so I signed up and planned to walk as fast as I could, just for fun. Well as I got into it I started trying to pass every walker ahead of me and was quite successful. I know that I can walk pretty fast because I track my walks with run keeper and I usually get into the 13 or 14 minute mile range.

Then I came upon a group who was running a little then walking a little. I caught up to them when ... Sun, 20 Sep 2015 21:20:46 EST Is there a bad luck imp on my shoulder? I feel like this is just a start of a run of bad luck. We went up to our place in the Sierras. We lost cell phone recption so I couldn't log my last fitness and LTGL points but that wasn't the problem. We were driving up and were about 50 miles from our place on the darkest, windiest part of the road when both of my headlights went out at the same time. I felt lucky to make it there alive. It seems to be an intermittent problem since we went out to a concert on Saturday night and we had headl... Mon, 24 Aug 2015 14:07:46 EST Spark people is mostly right but sometimes wrong I typically go to the websearch everyday while I'm doing Spark trivia. I always like to research the questions that I get wrong. The search page always has a quote of the day and today they have "There are no shortcuts to any place worth going" which is a very applicable and useful quote. They attribute it to Unknown.

I didn't get anything wrong today to research so I decided to research the quote and I found out that this is a very famous quote from Beverly Sills I found a very co... Fri, 21 Aug 2015 17:43:04 EST Wow Mammoth! Back in 2005 a guy was walking along one of my favorite walking trails and saw a bone sticking up. The bone was immense so he told the Park Managers. The people who manage the park immediately asked the Paleontology department at Berkeley to come down and have a look. The guy who is named Roger Castillo had found the most complete Columbian mammoth ever found in our area. The bones are on display at the Children's Discovery Museum close by and the park immediately after the excavation was com... Fri, 31 Jul 2015 00:57:27 EST My Goals for this Challenge! Stay at my goal range between 124 and 127 for the whole challenge
Eat Fish once a week
Eat white carbs no more than twice a week
Eat 5 or more Freggies every day!
Do at least 60 minutes of fitness every day
Perform the Four Fitness Tests every Saturday

_articles.asp?id=1112
Thu, 25 Jun 2015 18:22:25 EST What a great Dad's Day! We have a great family tradition to have the whole family join us at our place in the Sierras for Father's Day. We have a lovely home at about 4500 ft and it's just about a 2 1/2 hour drive from our real home in the flat lands of the South SF Bay. I We went on a great hike, had an awesome dinner of delicious spareribs, yummy potato salad, not fatty, not creamy cole slaw and baked beans. My daughter in law made a delicious red velvet birthday cake for my brother in law Roger. On Sunday AM we ... Mon, 22 Jun 2015 20:06:05 EST Wow another great challenge is starting! Are you looking for a way to get fit, lose weight, and have fun along the way? Check out the Summer 5% Challenge! It is great fun and really helps you focus on doing healthy things and keeping up your fitness activities. I have been on maintenance for the last 10 challenges but I still love the camaraderie and extra opportunities to increase my focus on my health and my team doesn't mind that I'm not still trying to lose weight.

Team members will work towards losing 5% of their sta... Fri, 19 Jun 2015 14:34:04 EST I am so lucky I walk about 3-4 miles every day. I'm so lucky since my work has two different access points to the trail along San Francisco Bay. I also like to walk around our industrial park since a lot of the businesses has added little parks and beautiful landscaping to their buildings.

On Tuesday when I took this industrial walk I found out that a little Farmer's Market has opened up in the parking lot of one of the Amazon buildings. I was able to get the most delicious peaches, strawberries... Thu, 4 Jun 2015 14:03:00 EST I joined the SparkPeople 21 day challenge on Facebook I haven't been on Facebook for years and it was really kind of fun. If we all did that we'd have a new way to connect and become better friends. What do you think?

st=21_days_to_your_healthiest_summer_ever
Fri, 29 May 2015 19:21:15 EST The key is to get right back up! As you guys probably know I love to speed walk. I usually take about 5-14 to 15 minute mile walks a week and almost always walk over 12,000 steps a day. What you may not know is that I fall a lot (like every 6-9 months or so). Fortunately, thanks to strong bones, I've never broken anything but falling is a very jarring event. It can and usually does tear your clothes and it certainly tears your skin. I keep trying to find more effective core exercises but some how I keep falling. I used to ju... Wed, 6 May 2015 14:46:30 EST Stairs are the answer to gaining weight on a cruise We just returned from a great 10 day cruise on the Star Princess. It was a round trip from San Francisco cruise so we didn't have worry about # of bags, walking in a dirty terminal with no shoes, separating liquids or getting to an airport 2 hours in advance. In other words no flying 535 but we still got to go to Cabo San Lucas, Loreto, La Paz, and Puerto Vallarta in Mexico with their beautiful beaches 298 , interesting history 203 and gorgeous weather ... Thu, 30 Apr 2015 18:26:35 EST Wow I did it! I have been writing about my walking goals for some time. I am addicted to my pedometer and I just won't leave home without it. Back in 2011, the first year I really started thinking about weight loss, my daily step average was 4,310 steps. There were days when the only time I left my chair was to go to the bathroom a few steps away. Now I'm a self avowed walking freak who won't go to bed unless I have at least 12,000 steps under my belt.

I track every day's step total on a massi... Mon, 13 Apr 2015 15:42:40 EST Great Motivator

This is one of the views from the hike we took this weekend near our vacation house in the Sierras. The hike was very challenging, a black diamond trail, but who can miss with a motivation like this. Thu, 26 Mar 2015 14:12:18 EST Don't exercise because you think a little doesn't help? I just saw this article today and it makes me want to exercise more!

Realistic Targets May Boost Exercise Rates, Experts Say

WEDNESDAY, Jan. 21, 2015 -- People who are sedentary should focus on small increases in their activity level and not dwell on public health recommendations on exercise, according to new research.

Current targets call for 150 minutes of weekly exercise -- or 30 minutes of physical activity at least five days a week -- to reduce the risk ... Mon, 9 Mar 2015 16:18:50 EST Sleepy, sleepy sleep app I recently got an app for my phone called Sleep as Android. It’s supposed to track the quality of my sleep, record all sounds while I’m sleeping and wake me at the best time within my sleep cycle but near to the time I’ve set for my alarm. In the last few years, I’ve struggled to get a quality amount of sleep. I have implemented all of the suggestions that SparkPeople recommends such as no caffeine after 4:00, no TV, cell phone or computers in the bedroom and keep a close schedule of “to bed”... Thu, 12 Feb 2015 19:49:54 EST I'm so sorry Teddy bear spotlight folks What a idiot I am! It is week 5 in our 5% challenge and I hadn't noticed that I haven't gotten a single Sparkmail from our Teddy Bear team. I have been driving poor Jentress crazy since I haven't been getting any spotlight emails. So guess what. For some reason my settings for getting team sparkmails was unchecked. I think I have it fixed now but I have missed sending spotlight wishes to everyone.

I feel so bad I want to give everyone I missed a big bear hug but I don't know who yo... Sat, 7 Feb 2015 18:50:49 EST My motivation is a little black disk Back in 2011, my company got into to the good health business by letting everybody have a little black pedometer and started tracking our steps on our computers. The first year my daily step average was 4,310 steps. There were days when the only time I left my chair was to go to the bathroom a few steps away. But even with this pitiful average they gave me $100 towards my health insurance deductible. I had finally accumulated enough steps for that on 12/30/2011 after my deductible had been us... Mon, 10 Nov 2014 19:17:07 EST Worrying does not empty tomorrow of its Trouble it empties today of its Strength! I should have that saying tattooed on my forehead. Yesterday I had a punctoplasty. It is a 10 minute out-patient thing where the surgeon dilates the opening in your eye that leads to your tear duct and snips a little bit to allow the opening to stretch. The worst part about it was that the local anesthetic, lidocaine, stings when it gets into your eye. It didn't even hurt when the local wore off.

But the anxiety that the anticipation caused me had me stressing so much.I couldn't sl... Tue, 7 Oct 2014 13:05:08 EST Here is today's score This Vocabulary score thing is really interesting. They chose the words you get so you may not get the highest score even if you get them all right. Since you get points for speed you can get hit the wrong answer just because you are rushing which is what happened today. Sometimes you're sure you know the answer but the choices don't seem to fit. This time I got 3335

Correct Answers

Pompous: Self-important (Easier)
Gist: Essence (Harder)
Garrulous: ... Thu, 2 Oct 2014 11:51:55 EST A little NSV for me Today I really feel old. I had two 70+ birthday parties to go to this weekend and for some reason that has really gotten to me. I have a goal to see my my three grandchildren (ages 6 1/2, 3 and 16 months) thru college. I don't just want to be there at their graduations. I want to be a fit, thin and with it grandma also. 209

Besides my healthy diet efforts and my increased fitness I'm trying to embrace, I know I need to keep working to make sure my mind stays sharp. To ... Tue, 30 Sep 2014 14:49:35 EST 5K today sweaty but super happy Today was the 17th annual fall classic fun run at my company. 363 This is the 4th one I have participated in. My sport is typically brisk walking. I don't like running because it's too much impact on my knees and hips so I walk as fast as I can. Most days I do about 14 minute miles and I'm proud I can walk so fast.

Today, I'm super thrilled. I was able to keep up a super rate and I managed to finish in 40:31 at a rate of 13 minutes 7 seconds per mile. This is the faste... Thu, 18 Sep 2014 16:56:43 EST Chocolate is my Fall 5% Challenge trigger I am a Chocoholic, plain & simple. Give me a nibble of chocolate 475 and there is no stopping me until the whole tray of brownies is gone.

Why oh why are there Hershey's chocolate almond bars 493 in our vending machine down the hall ?!?

Why is that school, my colleague's kid goes to, selling World's Finest chocolate bars as a fundraiser?

Why does the guy whose office is next door have to have a jar of Hershey miniatures on his desk?! ... Thu, 4 Sep 2014 16:13:40 EST Don't mean to complain For the first time in almost two years, my weight seems to be tipping up. Not much, but I ended the the Summer 5% challenge weighing more than I started with. I have to concentrate on the fact that my clothes still fit and I still feel great. But I also have to admit that the scale seems to mean more to me than it should. I have to concentrate on the fact that I am walking briskly more than I ever have before in my life and I've been able to get some running in too. I continue to go to Vinyas... Mon, 18 Aug 2014 14:15:53 EST Wow my spotlight day! I can't believe that Susan chose this day to make my Spotlight day. It happens to coincide with my 42nd wedding anniversary. My husband and I decided we can't celebrate until Thursday because we are both really busy but being in the spotlight is like a special anniversary present today for me. I love all of the people who come to visit my Sparkpage and being in the Spotlight brings the whole team here.

Woohoo. I'm a happy Teddy bear! Tue, 5 Aug 2014 15:28:25 EST I feel so secure! Today was my Weight Watcher meeting. My regular leader has been on vacation and the substitute is awesome! I have heard so many great ideas from her. The one I got today I just have to pass on!

She suggested that you choose some computer thing that you have to log into with username and password every day and set your password to a thought you have to remember. We all went around the room and suggested new passwords like:

Iamsk!nny - I am skinny
NoSw33ts - No sweets... Thu, 3 Jul 2014 17:29:44 EST Sabotage, over and over again The next 5% challenge starts this weekend so why did I do it?!? Last night was my yoga class' monthly eat dinner out evening. We went to the Rok Bistro in downtown Sunnyvale. This is NOT a place for a diet

My husband who is way more active than I am and has a huge appetite came with us this time and while the rest of my yoga buddies ordered just an entree my husband insisted on the Rok n Pot "A Three-Course option with your Entrée includes, Salad... Wed, 18 Jun 2014 14:56:32 EST Who knew we were trying to be healthy? Over 15 years ago we remodeled our kitchen. It really needed it (old appliances, avocado colored boomerang Formica and very dark cheap cabinetry). Why am I telling you about this now? Well 15 years ago I had no idea, I’d be eating a mostly, super healthy diet, being active every day and maintaining a healthy weight, but we knew we wanted to move my kitchen sink under the beautiful sunlit corner of my kitchen. The problem with that desire was that it left a huge pie-shaped area that was pretty... Mon, 9 Jun 2014 13:42:08 EST One more good bye for Dad Last night our synagogue engraved my Dad's name on our memorial wall in their beautiful memorial garden. It feels really great to have his name there since he wanted to be cremated, it's nice to have a place to go to see his name next to my Mom and sister. It was nice to have my whole family there too. I felt really supported. The only minorly bad issue is that my kids wanted to go to an old favorite Mexican restaurant and I ate way too much fattening stuff but since it was their favorite, it... Thu, 5 Jun 2014 19:02:51 EST I refuse to let the scale own me. I have been really bummed out for the last three weeks and I know why even though I'm having trouble admitting it. After over two years of maintaining a one pound range around my goal weight for some reason the scale has started to move in the wrong direction. In the last three weeks I've gained 3 pounds.

I know that doesn't sound like the end of the world but I am a person who really respects trends and I am trending upwards.

Logically, I know that this small increase ... Thu, 29 May 2014 19:26:25 EST I am what I am I've loved being a member of the the SP At Goal and maintaining group for a couple of years. They are a great resource for people who are maintaining. TinaJane76, one of the leaders periodically sends us a sparkmail to highlight somebody's blog as motivational. Today we were asked to have a look at a blog that Tanya602 wrote. She took the quiz that identifies your workout personality. It was fun.

ow.asp?show=72
and turned out to be a li... Thu, 15 May 2014 13:58:54 EST Another spark of Joy As I've blogged before, I'm fortunate to work at a company that supports our good health. They offer cash incentives to use a pedometer and walk, walk, walk among other things. Today I went out for my usual Monday power walk-45 minutes of 15 minute miles and when I hooked my pedometer up to my work computer to log my steps I found that I topped 10 million steps and I reached level 4 which gets me the top cash incentive that my company offers. <img src=" Mon, 12 May 2014 17:26:14 EST
