Let's hope he stays that way. He'll be 1 year old on June 16th.

Arlene Mon, 7 May 2012 16:49:55 EST Zach is back! The photo below shows that Zach is completely back to his adorable self. His Mom says that he knows what the camera is, now, and likes to 'ham' it up when she tries to take a picture. That adorable little smile certainly makes my day!

Arlene Sat, 21 Apr 2012 13:38:42 EST Zach's Latest Photo Op

This photo says it all. I got this from Zach's Mom's Facebook page this morning. It is so great to have the technology to share photos. I don't feel so far away from my sweet little great grandson. Again, there's that smile that lights up my life!
Thank you, God that Zachary is now feeling better!

Wed, 18 Apr 2012 10:46:05 EST The Giving Doll Yesterday afternoon my DH and I worked on several dolls at the Giving Doll meeting at our church. We meet every 2 weeks for about 3 hours to work on making dolls for sick or at risk children. Each doll gets clothing, a blanket, a tote bag to carry it in, gets a card that tells it's name and where it came from, and a little prayer card tucked in it's pocket. Our group is currently working on an "order" for 60 dolls for a summer camp for children dealing with grief. The Giving Doll is a nati... Sat, 14 Apr 2012 12:25:21 EST Thank God for Answered Prayers I spoke with our grandson on the phone this morning, and he said that the doctor examined Zachary yesterday, and said that the pneumonia was getting better. The antibiotic that he had given Zach, however contained penicillin, and Zach is apparently allergic to penicillin (just like my DH). So, he switched the antibiotic, and prescribed Benadryl for the rash. The doctor said that Zach was ok to go back to daycare today, which made him really happy. He is the star at daycare. He is he wel... Fri, 13 Apr 2012 11:13:01 EST Back from Massachusetts We visited our grandson and his wife and our very special dear great grandson, Zachary over Easter weekend. We had our Easter dinner on Saturday, so that our grandson's wife's parents and brother could drive home early on Sunday. What a feast! Our grand daughter-in-law got to give her new double oven quite a workout. She is an excellent cook. See, even Zachary was applauding her efforts.
Here's a picture of Zachary w... Thu, 12 Apr 2012 16:22:57 EST WooHoo!!!!!!!! I had a doctor's appointment this morning. For the first time in longer than I can remember, I am now at a normal BMI of 24! My doctor said that I don't need to lose any more weight, but I have a different number in mind. The best I've ever felt was when I was at 140, so that is a little over 25 more pounds. I know that with the Lord's help, I can achieve this. When I started with Spark last July, I weighed 240. But that was not actually my heaviest. I checked with the doctor, and he l... Tue, 3 Apr 2012 13:55:26 EST Buried With Christ I cannot convey how very happy and proud I am. Last night, our dear grandson, Steven (the handsome one who just had his junior prom on Friday night) was baptized at his church.
My husband and I were privileged to attend the service. Hearing all that was said about our grandson made me so very proud. He is a good and Godly person.
Colossians 2:12-15 was one of the parts of Scripture that was read by the youth minister.

"For you were buried with Christ when you were b... Mon, 2 Apr 2012 09:00:44 EST What He Suffered I received this in an email from a friend yesterday, and just wanted to share it with my Spark friends. It is something to think about as we prepare to celebrate Easter...what it cost Jesus!

THE (SCIENTIFIC) DEATH OF JESUS

At the age of 33,
Jesus was condemned to the death penalty.

At the time crucifixion was the "worst" death. Only the worst criminals condemned to be crucified. Yet it was
Even more dreadful for Jesus, for unlike other crim... Sat, 31 Mar 2012 06:33:15 EST Last Night Last night, my DH and I went over to see our DGS #2 pick up his date for his junior prom.
I may be prejudiced (slightly-LOL!), but I think he's handsome, and tall, and has gorgeous blue eyes, and is really smart, and wants to become a doctor, and even more important, he loves the Lord. We are so blessed!
I just wonder where all of the boys this tall were when I went to high school?????

A very proud M... Sat, 31 Mar 2012 06:21:41 EST "Let it be with me according to your word." Yesterday was the day of the feast of the Annunciation. My husband's nephew, who lives in California, emailed him about a painting that he read something about that was being exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. The painting is by an American artist named Henry Ossawa Tanner, and is simply called The Annunciation. You can find a picture of the painting if you google it. It is truly moving.
Michelangelo's work, the Pieta sits in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, behind a bu... Tue, 27 Mar 2012 10:37:57 EST It Is Well With My Soul! I went for another walk today. No camera this time, just me and God. I spent the beginning of my walk enjoying the beautiful day, and all of my surroundings. That led to praise and thanking God for the glories of His creation, for my health, my senses, my ability to walk and move, living in a safe and pleasant neighborhood, my DH and family, and so many, many more things. A tremendous feeling of peace descended over me, and I began humming the
following old hymn to myself. I could ... Mon, 19 Mar 2012 22:37:53 EST God Works in Mysterious Ways Today, Deb (aka DEADDY) sent me a gold star team goodie from Christians Walking in Faith. It startled me at first, because the first time I visited my Dr. after I had lost a good deal of weight, I asked him if he was going to give me a gold star for being a model patient. He laughed, and told me that he was all out of gold stars, but he shook my hand. Since I have another appointment next month, I was wondering if he had gotten any gold stars yet. Low and behold, there on my Spark page tod... Sun, 18 Mar 2012 15:05:55 EST Have a Happy St. Patrick's Day! When I saw this photo of my dear great-grandson, Zachary this morning, I couldn't help but smile. He is my little ray of sunshine, and the cutest little Italian leprechaun ever! I thought I'd share some of that sunshine with you.

137

220 247 458 Fri, 16 Mar 2012 12:26:26 EST Delightful Details As I was reading MJRVIC2000's blog posting this morning, as I do every day(I highly recommend it!), I was struck by a reference to a particular Scripture:
" The steps of the godly are directed by the Lord. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will not fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand."
Ps. 37:23,24

I was powerfully struck by four points:
1. Our steps are guided by the Lord. Gently guided, not forced.
2. He delights in ... Thu, 15 Mar 2012 06:59:24 EST My Soul Doth Magnify the Lord! Pardon my borrowing the title from the Magnificat, but that was the way I felt today. The weather today was so wonderful that I just had to get out and take a walk. I decided to take my camera with me. It slowed me down a bit, but I was so uplifted by the magnificence of God's creation. This time of year always makes me feel like I am being reborn. And I am. I can feel God's Spirit working in me, changing me, and helping me to grow. One of the first things I saw along my path was <img... Mon, 12 Mar 2012 16:08:37 EST Footprints Revisited

This new version of the "footprints" story really caught me off guard at the end...What a blessing.. IT'S AWESOME!!!

Imagine you and the Lord Jesus are walking down the road together. For much of the way, the Lord's footprints go along steadily, consistently, rarely varying the pace.

But your footprints are a disorganized stream of zigzags, starts, stops, turnarounds, circles, departures, and returns. For much of the way, it seems to go like this, but g... Sat, 10 Mar 2012 11:19:01 EST Numbering our Days
" So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." Psalm 90:12
"Teach us to make the most of our time, so that we may grow in wisdom." Life Application Study Bible

The note for Vs 12 in my Life Application Study Bible reads: "Realizing that life is short helps us to use the little time we have more wisely and for eternal good. Take time to number your days by asking, 'What do I want to see happen in my life before I die? What small step could... Thu, 8 Mar 2012 15:25:31 EST How Healing Comes I just joined a new team that I found called "God's Family". Their team message said that they had daily devotional verses. The message from yesterday was the following:

"After Jesus left the synagogue with James and John, they went to Simon and Andrew's home. Now Simon's mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever. They told Jesus about her right away. So he went to her bedside, took her by the hand, and helped her sit up. Then the fever left her, and she prepared a meal for... Wed, 29 Feb 2012 06:40:15 EST He does Listen! I am almost embarrassed to write this, but here goes... I was sitting and thinking about how I really should go for a walk today. After all, I did write something about intending to on our Jesus Girls Made to Crave fitness stream. After having an internal debate for about half an hour, I gave in and got dressed. After all, it was 60 degrees in February! Once I got outside, I was happy that I'd decided to walk. Not too windy, beautiful sunshine. A day like this in February is truly a gi... Thu, 23 Feb 2012 15:21:19 EST " Are my words kind, necessary, and true? " This sentence was on Lysa Terkeurst's blog this morning: " Are my words kind, necessary, and true? " Wow! If everyone (especially me!) could put this filter into place between their brain and their lips, this old world would be a so much better place. If the filter cut off all unkind, unnecessary or untruthful words, imagine all of the lovely silence. In that silence, we could listen to God and what He would have us say. Our words should be blessings, and never curses. Our words should bu... Thu, 23 Feb 2012 10:54:41 EST A Work in Progress I came across the following quote by Barbara Carwthorne Crafton in my devotional reading this morning:
"So never write yourself off, or your child, no matter what. Never take any disappointment as the final word. We're not done until we're done. And we may not even be done then - who is to say what God has in store for us when we graduate from here?"

I am happy to think of myself as a work in progress. A work of God's creating. I pray that He will guide me in the path tha... Mon, 20 Feb 2012 09:26:20 EST I love this time of day (night?) It is so very quiet and peaceful. The welcome candles in the windows are the kind that automatically go out when the sun comes up. The one here in my prayer closet casts a lovely glow. I already prepped a roast for supper tonight with veggies, and got it going in the crock pot on low. Checked out my emails, huddled with my Spark teams, and now I am getting ready to settle down in my chair with my Bible. I have about an hour before I have to get dressed for church. I love this precious t... Sun, 19 Feb 2012 06:05:31 EST A Paid Non-Political Announcement My team leader, Bittygirl51 has asked that I cut and paste the following on my page. So here it goes.... I called this a paid announcement because the rewards of being a part of this team are out of this world! I am blessed daily by knowing each member of this team, and their insights on "Made to Crave". So, please read the message that follows:

If you are already a member of the Jesus Girls Made to Crave Team, then I would encourage you to cut and paste the following as a... Thu, 16 Feb 2012 18:17:49 EST "Say Goodbye" At first hand, that sounds like an unusual title for a blog entry on Valentine's Day. But when I read JMERLAU's entry today in the Daily Spark, I wanted to look up the lyrics to the song he quoted. It is called "Say Goodbye" by Mandisa. If you Google it you can go to UTube and hear the entire song at

_g,
or pull up the entire lyrics at

odbye-lyrics/
Here are just a few of the... Tue, 14 Feb 2012 09:34:34 EST Give yourself to me in thanksgiving, not as payment In reading my Life Application Study Bible this morning, I came across the following notes about Rachel:

"Jacob's love for Rachel was both patient and practical. Jacob had the patience to wait seven years for her, but he kept busy in the meantime. His commitment to Rachel kindled a strong loyalty within her. In fact, her loyalty to Jacob got out of hand and became self- destructive. She was frustrated by her barrenness, and desperate to compete with her sister for Jacob's atten... Mon, 13 Feb 2012 15:21:11 EST God comes with us on our journey In reading Psalm 119 this morning, I came across the following note in my Life Application Study Bible for vs 27,28:
"Our lives are cluttered with rule books, but the authors never come with us to help us follow the rules. But God does. That is the uniqueness of our Bible. God not only provides the rules and guidelines but comes with us personally each day to strengthen us so that we can live according to those rules. All we must do is invite Him and respond to His direction."
... Thu, 9 Feb 2012 07:28:36 EST Refining As part of my daily Bible reading yesterday, I read Malachi 3:1-4. In my Life Application Study Bible, I was really struck by the following note:

"In the process of refining metals, the raw metal is heated with fire until it melts. The impurities separate from it and rise to the surface. They are skimmed off, leaving the pure metal. Without this heating and melting, there could be no purifying. As the impurities are skimmed off the top, the reflection of the worker appears in ... Fri, 3 Feb 2012 09:10:02 EST A New Beginning Well, it's the beginning of a new month. A clean slate. I was so happy to see a loss of 2 pounds when I got on the scale this morning. Weight loss had really slowed down lately, so this was very encouraging. Thank you, Lord!
Here is a photo of my humble prayer corner.

Actually, it is just a corner of our den. The chair is so comfortable. It's one of those rocker-gliders, and it also has a glider ottoman... Wed, 1 Feb 2012 19:08:12 EST A healthy body is a guest-chamber for the soul What a wonderful Lord's Day! It's always a blessing to start out the day in church with my dear husband. My co-teacher had charge of our Sunday School class today (we alternate Sundays), so DH and I enjoyed breakfast at a nice local diner. I stayed on track, so that felt good. Even better, the scale greeted me with a 1.2 pound loss this morning.
Yesterday I downloaded "Made to Crave" and the Devotions to my Nook from Barnes and Noble. The kids had given me a gift card for Christm... Sun, 29 Jan 2012 14:50:25 EST Productive Day I managed to cut out 25 fleece blankets today to go with the Giving Dolls that we make at church. Got the second afghan square knitted for our church group, and added another 6 inches to the scarf I am knitting to be donated to the Seaman's Church Institute. This is the third scarf I've started since January 1. This in addition to doing laundry and other chores. It's been a fairly productive day. God is truly good to give me the energy and resources to be able to do these things. He's b... Thu, 19 Jan 2012 03:13:29 EST Whooppeeee!!!!!!!! Yesterday was my annual physical. My Dr. congratulated me on my weight loss (55 pounds since July 4, 2011). And...........he told me I can cut out the last half pill of my blood pressure medication. That's down from 2 BP and 1 cholesterol med, to zero, nada, zilch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was my biggest goal. I am only 18 pounds away from having a "normal" BMI. Wonder if I can reach that by my next appointment on April 3? Also, I wore a new top that the kids gave me for Christmas tu... Sun, 2 Oct 2011 17:40:20 EST BP Progress I spoke with my Dr today, and he said I could completely discontinue the one
pill (which he had previously cut in half). No cholesterol med, and only one BP pill.
Hopefully, soon I'll be able to get off the pills altogether.
Life is good!
248 Fri, 30 Sep 2011 17:21:19 EST New short term goal I want to lose 12 lbs by the end of the year. That is just 1 lb per week. To reward myself, I will buy some new clothes. I can and will do this!!!!
306 Wed, 28 Sep 2011 06:02:42 EST Sept. 22, 2011 Just opened a letter from my Dr. with the results of my recent bloodwork. My cholesterol levels are now all within normal range and I can stop taking that darned Fenofibrate. That's $70+ not going out of my pocket each time I fill the prescription, and hopefully, a healthier me! The Dr. also cut one of my BP meds in half. I hope to get off them as well. It's so good to get good news from a doctor. It's been hard work, but well worth it. I just need to keep my Spark going!
248... Thu, 22 Sep 2011 16:07:44 EST Wednesday, September 14, 2011 Well, the scale showed 212.4 this morning! That's 27.6 lbs lost! I have a doctor's appointment on Friday and that will be the real test. It includes fasting blood work.
Will be very curious to see how my cholesterol is doing, and what he gets for a BP reading. Will also get my flu shot. Another positive thing is that we will get to see our dear great grandson Zachary on Saturday. His parents are coming down from Massachusetts for a short visit. He'll be 3 months old by the time we... Wed, 14 Sep 2011 08:44:49 EST Tomorrow is 9/11 It's hard to believe that tomorrow marks the 10th anniversary of 9/11. The horrific events of that day are so fresh in my mind. Most news reports still bring a tear to my eye and I get all choked up. I'll never forget going up to New York with a group from church to volunteer at St. Paul's Chapel, where they had set up a respite center for the workers at Ground Zero. The dedication of those people was amazing.
<img s... Sat, 10 Sep 2011 07:26:19 EST September 1, 2011 Well, I am down to 221. Weight loss seems to be slowing down a bit, but I am following the program. 40 minutes a day on my stationary bike. Trying to keep sodium intake to 1500mg per day. Calories to under 1500. I do feel the difference. Just need to be patient with the weight loss. Trip to Dr on September 16 will show what difference there is in BP and cholesterol readings. September 10, I will also re-measure myself. Curious to see what changes have been made. Fall schedule pickin... Thu, 1 Sep 2011 12:37:08 EST Lost 15 lbs in a little over 1 month Between July 4 and August 10. I have gone from 240 to 225.4. I am very pleased. It hasn't been easy, but so satisfying. My body feels different. I've also lost several inches all over. A great day! I would love to lose 10 lbs between now and September 16th when I will see my primary care doctor. He'll be taking blood, so I will be interested in seeing what changes have taken place in my cholesterol levels.

9 Wed, 10 Aug 2011 10:18:21 EST Friday, August 5, 2011

Zach is 7 weeks old! Waiter was not "friendly". Asked for 1% milk for my coffee (which is listed on the menu), but they didn't have any. Asked for Garden Vegetable Omlette with no cheese, with egg substitute. No egg substitute (had to settle for egg whites). It came with cheese, which I did my best to scrape off. Asked for dry whole wheat toast (it came with a little butter on it). My decision - never to go to Friendly's for breakfast again if I can help it.
We are... Sun, 31 Jul 2011 16:18:48 EST Saturday, July 30, 2011 Well, I finally lost 8/10ths of a pound since yesterday! At least that's something, and I'm not going in the other direction. Doing well today with my food choices, water consumption, and just have to do 10 more minutes of cardio to complete the day. I wish restaurants would have more low sodium choices. Also, I need to do something about getting more potassium and magnesium. Something to work on. Watched a pilates video this morning. Looked interesting. I found my old exercise mat in ... Sat, 30 Jul 2011 19:11:12 EST Friday Night, July 29, 2011 Well, I've drunk my 8 cups of water, done my cardio exercise, kept to my 1200 calorie target, and still have 8 ounces of Silk Light and a Fiber One Brownie to look forward to. I am hoping to break free from this point on the scale (see a number lower than the one I've been looking at all week). I'm thinking about increasing my caloric intake slightly for the weekend to see if that helps. I am feeling positive. A little tired from not sleeping well last night. Hopefully, I will rectify th... Fri, 29 Jul 2011 20:46:07 EST Friday, July 29, 2011 Got off to a slow start this morning. The men who installed, then fixed our air conditioner/heater,then put a foot through our living room ceiling while up in the attic, were back this morning to repair the hole. They replaced the dry wall, then taped and spackled. They come back Tuesday to sand, re spackle, and finish the repair. Then they have to come back to repaint the ceiling.
I am trying not to stress out over this. Also, I have not lost any weight at all this week! That is v... Fri, 29 Jul 2011 12:04:45 EST Thursday, July 28, 2011 Went grocery shopping this morning. Combined walking, with paying a lot more attention to the ingredients and nutritional information of what I was buying. Made many good choices. Plus, lugging the heavy bags up 2 flights of stairs was good cardio. Need to do my stationary bike workout, and drink some more water. I am still at the same weight today, but feel good. Hopefully I will see some results on the scale tomorrow.
324 311 Thu, 28 Jul 2011 13:43:25 EST Wednesday, July 27, 2011 Seems like I'm stuck at this weight. I'm trying not to get discouraged, and keep with the program. Went to church this morning. That was uplifting. Going to have a late lunch. Hopefully, that will help me not be so hungry at dinner. Got in 11 minutes on the stationary bike, and need to do another 10 at least before the day is over. All in all, I feel good.
324 Wed, 27 Jul 2011 15:25:05 EST Tuesday, July 26, 2011 Well, another challenge today. DH wants to go to Penney's to look at a new chair, then go to Boston Market for lunch. I think I'll try a small side salad, small fruit cup, and a small carrot and raisin salad. That's only 280 calories and 185 mg sodium. I'll take balsamic vinegar and a bottle of water with me.
Then I need to figure out what to have for dinner. It's tough, because DH is on a low fiber diet for a week per his Dr.
This is what makes life interesting!
19... Tue, 26 Jul 2011 11:37:26 EST Monday, July 25, 2011 Well, I hit a small milestone today. I have now lost just over 10 lbs! It felt so good to see the number on the scale go below 230 for the first time. My birthday is just 3 months from today, and I would like to see 215 by then. That would be the best gift I could give myself. If I can do that, I will have to reward myself. Need to get back to the exercise bike. The heat has set me back a few days on that. But I am not discouraged. Need to focus on 8 cups of water a day also. I am ps... Mon, 25 Jul 2011 07:14:40 EST
