I did my first 5K this past Saturday. It was the Kansas City color run and I had a blast. I didn't run the entire thing but enjoyed every minute. My friend and our teenage boys did it together. Still working on that healthy lifestyle but this was a step in the right direction. Tue, 4 Jun 2013 22:34:15 EST Don't bring me down! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5332863 I am generally an optomist. Lately my self talk has been anything but. I think instead of focusing on that I am going to do my best to encourage others and not be the downer in the room. Tue, 23 Apr 2013 11:21:43 EST Snow, Love it and Hate it http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5278919 The past 2 weeks have been busy. We had 2 snow storms in 2 weeks! Love the fact that we got over 1 1/2 feet of snow. We needed the moisture and it's so pretty!

Hate the fact I had to stay the night at work a total of 4 days. ( I have a long commute and the roads were a mess) Couldn't prepare my meals those days but Hospitals do have cafeteria's and I made the best of it.

Loved the fact that we had fresh powder and I took my kids to a local ski area and we all took le... Fri, 8 Mar 2013 13:11:55 EST Loving the intervals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5245617 I've was introduced to interval training 6 months ago and have been using it on the treadmill ever since. When I started I could barely run 1 minute at 6mph. Friday I was able to run 6 two minute intervals at 8mph and recover for 3 minutes walking 4 mph. I probably need to push it a little more as I barely broke a sweat. But I feel great and can't wait to do my first 5K. I plan on running at least the half of it but it would be awesome to run the entire thing! Sun, 10 Feb 2013 21:21:24 EST Fantastic February http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5233328 Well my 6 month membership at a small group personal training gym is complete. Down 20 pounds and 11 inches, 10 pounds shy of my goal but I can't believe the muscles I've developed. Now it's time to continue the transformation on my own. I still struggle with eating healthy consistantly so my goal this month is to keep up my workouts and be sure to log my food every day (being accountable for food choices). Hopefully this will lead to a 6 lb wight loss or better and personal satisfaction. ... Fri, 1 Feb 2013 14:00:57 EST New Year Same Me http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5189182 This year I am looking forward to new challenges. I plan on going back to school, I hope to actually do a 5K, have a daily devotional time and achieve my weight loss goal.

I could look back at last year and see all my achievements and failures. But instead I want to focus on the future. Everyday is an opportunity, a gift from God. How we use it really shows who we are.

My Sunday school has been looking at accountability, especially being accountable to God for the c... Thu, 3 Jan 2013 23:19:31 EST Big changes? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5169204 We all try to change for the better. Break bad habits, eat better, get fit. For me these changes have been great but often intermittant. This past 6 months I have made a real effort to be consistant. I made big changes in diet and excercise and it has payed off. I am feeling the best about myself than I have in a long time. Although the weight loss hasn't been as dramatic as I like. People are noticing and it feels great. Most of all I am proud of my effort. I know I can continue to ... Mon, 17 Dec 2012 14:26:45 EST Survived Thanksgiving! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5149474 I am so happy! After two turkey dinners and lots of temptations at work, my weight stayed the same. Not much to brag about really but it beats the 5 pounds I usually pack on. Making progress. Hopefully I can breeze through the rest of the holidays and and lose a few more unwanted pounds by Christmas!

Happy Holidays to all! Wed, 28 Nov 2012 12:09:18 EST What a difference! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5134028 I am so excited about my fitness. I started lifting weights and doing interval training in Aug. and WOW it has made a difference! Wish I had pictures to share. I've only lost about 20#'s doing this but my shape has really changed. I have more energy and my endurance has really improved, I may finally be able to do a 5k in the spring.

I cheated though, I've been working out in a small group with a personal trainer. I discovered that I do need a little external motivation to keep... Tue, 13 Nov 2012 13:02:45 EST Too tired! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5061957 I'm too tired to cook, too tired to work out" This is often an excuse I use. It often leads to self sabotage.

Earlier this week I had worked a really long day. The next morning I got up early and sent the kids to school and then headed to the gym. I had planned on working out a little lighter as I was really tired. I told this to one of the trainers and he gave me a different perspective. He essentially said why would you cheat yourself on a workout when you made the effort to... Sun, 16 Sep 2012 18:07:13 EST I don't eat that! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5026474 I was listening to the radio on my way into work and they were talking about research where they found that people had more sucess maintaining a healthy weight if they said " I don't eat that" vs " I can't eat that". Now I'm not one to say certian foods should be eliminated but I could see how having this mindset would not leave you feeling deprived but empowered.

The disc jockey's were men and compared it to the question of wearing a dress. He said " I know my reply would be I d... Wed, 22 Aug 2012 13:56:37 EST Workin out http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5025018 Loving the new gym I joined. I think having a personal trainer and a group to work out with will help me reach my goals much faster than working out at home has ever done. So much encouragement and feedback I actually look forward to working out.

Went for annual physical this week and had lost 13#'s since last year. ( with minimal changes to diet and exercise habits) I get to stop taking cholesterol meds. Yeah!!! I plan on topping that number next year.

I am alread... Tue, 21 Aug 2012 14:11:22 EST 4- Wheel adventure http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4922966 Just back from vacation. Went 4 wheeling with friends and family. Could skip the dust! But Arkansas was beautiful! Had a blast after riding as there was a river where we camped and water was low enough to really swim. I swam at least an hour a day! Just about long enough to get all that dust off!

Have been away from sp for about 2 months. This morning weighed 232. New short term goals: 227 or less by July 4th, and enjoy the Summer! Tue, 12 Jun 2012 09:16:27 EST Didn't fall into my old trap! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4797004 Yesterday after "blowing it over the weekend" I felt like giving up. I munched throughout the day not paying attention to what I was eating and feeling really guilty. Then it hit me. If you don't want the same results stop doing the same thing. (I know it's cliche) So I got up and worked out for an hour. I felt great! I got more accomplished in the hour after my workout than I had all day.

I know I will continue to have days when I don't eat the best and don't want to wor... Tue, 20 Mar 2012 14:56:51 EST Friday night fling! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4791239 Was down 10 #'s this morning. Ran out of time after running errands ended up getting pizza. Got too hungry and ended up eating 4 pieces! Glad I did that hour workout this morning. Will have to work on portion control. It was astounding to see that it was almost the whole days calorie alotment.

Worried about this weekend. Working, and celebrating St. Pat's with Reubens and ? Having a buffet at work. Will try to make as healthy of choices as possible and pack some healthy sna... Fri, 16 Mar 2012 20:54:11 EST Week 2 of tame your sweet tooth team http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4782849 I plan on continuing to be honest when tracking food. I have managed to cut out baking over the past few weeks which is usually where I overeat on sweets the most. (Secretly at home when no one knows how many cookies you baked. Only you and your waistline! ) I still have 2 packages of brownie mix but I will find a way to work these into my meal plan and portion control. I will learn to make dessert a treat and not a routine.

I have always viewed dessert as a trigger so as lon... Sun, 11 Mar 2012 23:28:03 EST Wednesday http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4775336 I've been reading success stories which both impress me and also make me ashamed. I Joined spark people in 2010 and have done it on and off. However I gained when left to my own devices. I know the tools work but only if you put in the effort. So this time I decided I would use the Spark pages and community boards as well to keep me motivated.

So far this time I have been diligent in recording my food intake. I started working out again and am 4 weeks into the Slim in 6 cd's wh... Wed, 7 Mar 2012 10:14:06 EST Brownies, cookies and Ice cream, Oh my! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4770324 Friday I joined the Tame Your Sweeet Tooth Spark team. I hope to learn more about curbing the craving for sweets and gain support from others with similar struggles.

Week 1 instructions are to monitor your sugar intake and view patterns.
- I already know I always want sweets in the afternoon and often after lunch or dinner.
-I also know I can avoid the sweets in the breakroom until I have a little then it's all I think about.
-Just read the marinade bottle i use fo... Sun, 4 Mar 2012 16:30:00 EST Sneaky Salt http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4767063 I didn't lose this week and wondered why. I worked out, stayed within calorie range for the most part. So I looked at my daily sodium content. I has been staying below 2000mg but this week averaged closer to 3500 day.

I don't add salt at the table but this week I used a lot more convienence foods. The salt just snuck up on me. I am going to watch it better this week and see what my weight does. ( Hope its just water hanging on with the extra salt and I lose enough for 2 weeek... Fri, 2 Mar 2012 11:28:33 EST Don't let it get you down! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4765001 Ever had one of those days when everything to longer than usual, unexpected hurdles were set in front of you, and you just were not prepared. That was my day yesterday.

I had errands to run that I thought would take about 2 hrs but ended up taking closer to 5.

I knew I would be eating out for lunch but wasn't sure about the menu. I met my mother for lunch at a "Healthy restaurant" and actually did pretty well. Which was an accomplishment since it was a buffet and th... Thu, 1 Mar 2012 10:14:50 EST Keeping the Kids happy. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4751012 I made banana bread yesterday at my daugters request. ( I love to bake) Had an unplanned slice last night and only went over my calorie range by 100. Made it with flax seed but don't tell her.
My daughter is 11 and at a healthy weight but she's going through a junk food phase. I will not by them but she is using her allowance to buy her own. I hope that as we start eating healthier as a family she will not want them as often.
Having a great day today! Hope you all are too. Wed, 22 Feb 2012 09:42:22 EST Have your cake http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4744388 I am so happy! I lost 2 lbs this week and even had german chocolate cake 3 times this past week. (Why sweets for valentines?) It proves that if you work out and try to stay in your calorie range. You can have your cake and eat it too! Off to work. Another 15 hr day ahead but I packed all my food and will hopefully be able to dodge the pitfalls at work. Wishing all the SparkPeople a great weekend. I however am working. It will still be fun though. Sat, 18 Feb 2012 06:51:08 EST Back on Track http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4742164 I've been gone for awhile and regained all the weight I had lost and a little more. I am trying to not diet this time and just work on changing habits. I hope to lose 30 lbs by summer so I can get back into some of my old clothes. I know keeping track of what you eat makes you more accountable. I am looking forward to success little steps at a time. Today was a great day I planned ahead and was even able to go out to eat with my mom at a fast food restauraunt without making bad choices. ... Thu, 16 Feb 2012 16:37:08 EST Back on track http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3871223 I used to find out what my calorie limit should be and eat until I had used them up. I have found that if your eating the right combination of foods it's difficult to reach those limits. My husband and I started the 6 week body makeover diet program this week to help us reach our goals sooner. After 5 days on the program I haven't once craved something sweet (which is a record for me!) Thu, 30 Dec 2010 09:32:32 EST teeter totter http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3790421 Do you ever feel like your just going up and down and not really getting anywhere. That's how it's been for me for the past 4 months. I exercise regularly then stop. I journal my food intake then stop. When the teeter totter is up I lose weight and get positive feedback and when it drops down I become critical of myself. I think it's time to get off the playground equipment and start running down the road! Wed, 17 Nov 2010 15:02:05 EST Fun in the sun http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3463485 I love to swim, always have. Went to the public pool today and really enjoyed the weather and playing with my kids. ( I love racing them across the pool!) I began to wonder how much more fun it would be if I wasn't self conscious about my weight. As a teenager I hid under a t-shirt even though I wasn't that out of shape. My weight has fluctuated my entire adult life and I have wasted useless energy comparing myself to others. Next summer I will not fear the diving board. I will be happy w...
