I've been neglecting you for quite awhile. Thank you sparkpeople for keeping my page and history active. I can use this to gain perspective for the journey forward.

Today I am thinking about sugar, and how much is too much. I found a reference that says women should consume no more than 6 teaspoons of sugar per day. That translates to about 25 grams. One teaspoon has 16 calories. So this will apply to sugar from any source, fruit , etc. Fir... I salute you. So far this year, I've focused on creating balance and health while managing the changes of my new job, and all the changes that brings - schedule, skills, people. I'm doing well sometimes, but struggling to keep up with things at home, and getting the rest I need to stay healthy. The past few weeks have been challenging with not feeling well physically, working on some financial challenges left over from being laid o... Fri, 10 May 2013 11:49:25 EST Catching up with the team... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5274251 I'm glad to be part of the Starfish team, and working at contributing as we go along. I've been making it quick though, as the last month has involved starting a new job after being laid off a full year. I'm focusing on getting in a good rhythm with a different schedule, and working 6 days some weeks. I've mapped out a walking route at a park near work where I can get a 20 minute walk on my lunch break most days, and climb 2 sets of stairs 2-3 times each workday also. It is a sedentary jo... Tue, 5 Mar 2013 11:48:40 EST Fall 2012 5% Challenge #1 pre-challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5082253 Why do I want to lose weight?

For me, this is about healthy lifestyle and quality of life as it affects my ability to do everything.
At 52, I am dealing with a combination of chronic health concerns that are often challenging to me, and I want to do all I can to prevent other conditions from occurring. Weight plays a role in all of these concerns.

Having read and researched each of my conditions, along with nutrition and exercise information through Sparkpeople,... Fri, 16 Mar 2012 15:55:57 EST Good walk today! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4040091 Well, I did not make it to take my walking shoes to work today as planned. I got up late, and was running late, and didn't have time to think about it. I didn't get to take a lunch break anyway, and worked late too. Even so, when I got home, I just really wanted to go out and walk, so I threw all my stuff on the bed, put on my walking shoes and ipod, and went out for my two mile walk, racing the sunset. I completed the route I was doing last Spring and Summer while unemployed. It felt re... Tue, 22 Feb 2011 23:32:41 EST Learning to use Challenge Teams to motivate myself http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4033131 Week one of the Winter-1 5% Challenge team combines exercise and blog participation for challenges. This is my second attempt at the 5% challenge and I am sticking with the Starfish team. I'm not a very competitive person, but need the motivation boost of working on the team challenges. I like the idea of doing my part toward team success, and want to see my own improvements in lifestyle and health as well. I had moderate success with the first challenge I joined, but need to work at mai... Sun, 20 Feb 2011 18:38:33 EST Do it! Don't wait! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3159571 Only a month in, and I'm "getting back on track". I did not track my food for several days, and did no exercise to track either. Monday, I awoke with a strong migraine that wiped me out all day, meds and all. Tuesday, I had a morning follow up doctor appointment, and liquid diet prep day for my first colonoscopy on Wednesday. Procedure on Wednesday went well, followed by another migraine! So Friday was a bit better, but I'm finding it difficult to get back to my walking routine. The wea... Sun, 25 Apr 2010 18:41:23 EST Slow down! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3100416 So yesterday on my walk, I started off with one of my favorite songs on my ipod, a Seal song called The Right Life, a little faster paced than some. The trail starts off with an incline, not steep, but definitely an incline. So keeping pace with the music, my right shin started hurting, enough to completely distract me! I kept going, thinking - "Is this going to work itself out or not? Should I keep going or cut it short today?" The weather was so nice, I really didn't want to miss the wal... Fri, 9 Apr 2010 16:29:43 EST Pedometer is my friend today! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3021902 I exercised four days in a row! Today I am tired. I have it planned to take today off from exercise, but still need to burn 192 more calories through exercise. I am going to a workshop today, so I will wear my pedometer and see if that will give me enough points from just walking around on breaks. Sat, 20 Mar 2010 10:32:37 EST
