My mother had orthopedic surgery on her ankle, foot and knee last week so I'm in Indiana taking care of her. It took a lot of scrambling to get ready to be away from work for 10 days, which is why I haven't been around SP much. But I'm glad I could be here. Mon, 16 Dec 2013 19:51:14 EST 50 pounds I'll never get back:) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5514444 Sometimes I read blogs about people's progress or discoveries they make as they improve their lifestyles. Tue, 15 Oct 2013 16:38:28 EST Accountability check http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5511574 At the beginning of the month, I blogged about my stress relief and calorie deficit goals, so here's my accountability check:
Despite doing well at practicing stress relief tactics, I haven't achieved my 300 calorie deficit goals.
Maybe if I change my goal to the opposite of what I'm going for and make it a calorie surplus of 1000 calories every day, whatever rebellious part of me seems to be winning will defy my own goals and I'll end up with a 300 calorie deficit every day. <BR... My stress level has been higher the past couple weeks, which causes me to eat terribly.
So for October, my goal is to track my foods every day in October. For the first week, my goal is to eat no more than 2000 calories 3 days of the week. I'll add more days as the month goes on.
To accomplish my goal, I'll practice a stress relieving tactic twice a day, which I re... I looked back over my tracker from before I eliminated sugar and found that as long as I eliminated wheat and focused on keeping my calories down, I was only giving myself little wheat-free treats 3 days a week and was getting good results. I wasn't looking for a different job, but this place told me about the opening and asked me to apply. My bosses think FEMA (or whatever it's called now) is splitting hairs because I don't have a college degree and I only have 24 years of experience instead of the required 25. Yikes! Gulp! Guffaw! I must admit my self doubt. It's been hard enough to stay below 2000 calories a day. However, I've done it for 14 of the past 17 days. It would be a super breakthrough if I could keep rolling like that! Especially since I went just over 2000 the past 2 days in a row. Before I let myself slide into a carele... The biggest plus is that it's beautiful and spacious inside and out. The biggest downer is that my commute takes me 3 hours every day and requires me to walk 2 miles each way to get public transportation (I hate car ownership and driving). Sure, I love that it forces me to get that exercise, but walking is the most painful thing for my arthritic feet, so the more I do it, the sooner I'll have to ha... Sun, 21 Oct 2012 16:56:02 EST I went sea kayaking today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5090581 Some of the background scenery may look familiar since I've posted photos of it before, but I thought you'd like pretty pictures anyway.

<img src="http://photos-ak.sparkpeople.com/nw/9/0/l900662254.j... Sun, 7 Oct 2012 22:18:20 EST Here I am http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5087725 Thanks to all of you who have visited and checked up on me despite me not being around much. It's been very comforting. I'm overwhelmed, mostly by work but it's makng everything else seem overwhelming. I have a big community organizing project that's weighing heavy on my mind but can't get to it because I keep having to compromise with my accounting department and remind them that people's crises are a priority over their paperwork non-crises. Right?! Good grief!
My high impact i... Fri, 5 Oct 2012 10:34:39 EST HIIT and food http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5074549 This morning was the first class of an 8 week High Impact Interval Training (jump and speed training). I've been training myself for the past 3 years to get to this point, but I have to admit I was terrified, especially when I got there. There were 5 guys and 1 woman who do CrossFit and are on semi-pro sports teams, plus chubby little me, at least that's how I felt since I was the only person under 6'2". I don't think any of them had an ounce of fat on them.
I was telling the teache... Tue, 25 Sep 2012 14:39:13 EST This week's experiment http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5072175 My goal this week is to eat a mostly plant based diet. I had the idea that eating a vegan diet would be too extreme for me, but I looked over my food logs and realized it might be easier than I think. I love cheese, but I've only been eating it once a week. I'm not ready to give up plain yogurt yet, but I'm ok with that for my first attempt at this.
Fish and the occasional cheeseburger are the only meats I eat. The fish is just because I need protein and don't like chicken and the ch... Sun, 23 Sep 2012 22:45:14 EST Elliptical training review & Sept. goal http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5055279 A couple weeks ago, I got Motion Traxx's Elliptical Coach with Stephanie Vitorino. It guides you through interval training. I hadn't tried it because I chickened out, but a Sparkfriend mentioned that she's been doing it and she loves/hates it. I'm grateful for the inspiration, and I'm hoping that if you're chickening out on something, you'll be inspired to do it anyway. Isn't that all so Sparky!
I tried it today and I can see how one would love/hate it. I love exercising and pushing... Tue, 11 Sep 2012 23:15:41 EST Hi again! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5051005 My sister and her boyfriend invited me to go on their road trip to northern CA and up the Oregon coast. I have so many photos I think you'll love, I'll get right to it.
Here's Glass Beach in Fort Bragg, CA:

We went through some of the Redwoods.

We talked about... Sun, 9 Sep 2012 12:51:27 EST Prepping for the unexpected http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5040133 First, SP has a p.o.'d frog on their hands because I haven't gotten my trophies for 2,000 or 3,000 fitness minutes in August! Yes, the exercise and its benefits are their own reward, and I'm not usually so enthused about extra attention, but I was expecting them, so I wanted them! I've been blowing up the administrator's emails but no response yet. However, I do have to admit that getting the goodies and attention from my rock star Sparkfriends is way more rewarding anyway. Thank you all... Sat, 1 Sep 2012 14:52:51 EST Wheat free progress http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5034846 I've been wheat free for more than 2 weeks. The things I love about it most:
-It's been unexpectedly easy. I feel very comfortable without wheat.
-It keeps me from binges. Bread products and crackers are major binge triggers for me.
-It's kept me from adding another 500 or so calories each day for several days over the past week or so.
-When I ate bread products, I craved sugar and salt, but the few times I've had things with sugar in the past couple weeks, I haven't cr...
