Love it! Wish he could have done it sooner!

We are terrifically busy and I rarely find time to Spark! We went on a great vacation and visited all our children and saw all the grand kids but one who was not available when we were in his area. With twelve kids and 36 grand kids this was a major project! Also saw most of the great grandkids and there are ten of those.

Now that we are back home, ... Mon, 4 Aug 2014 12:31:10 EST Great Vacation! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5727173 We are enjoying a fun vacation. We are traveling to visit all our kids. They live in several western states. We have stayed with the kid we are visiting and we go site seeing in the area where they live. Between visits to kids we have been camping. The scenery has been beautiful! We went to several National Parks and Monuments. There is a lot to see and enjoy.
It is amazing how much our grandkids have grown since last we saw them! Several are taller than me now, which makes them ... Fri, 27 Jun 2014 14:12:27 EST Retirement is very busy! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5700933 I am amazed how busy we are now that my husband has retired. We are really enjoying our time. I am so busy that I often forget to get on Spark for several days. Sorry about that, but I will try to keep up when I have time.

At first I gained a little weight because we were eating out way more than I was used to. Now I seem to have that under a little better control and today I was actually down half a pound from my last weigh-in (now at 135 1/2). I hope that is not just a one d... Thu, 22 May 2014 17:06:27 EST Found a Tasty New Restaurant http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5675357 It is so much harder eating right now that my husband is retired. He loves to go out for meals and so do I. Today we had to drive to the post office and decided to try the Asian Buffet in the area. It was great and we both loved it. I tried not to over eat, but wanted to try all the new foods. They were very tasty. I limited myself to one plate, but have to admit that it was piled high! I love Asian food and this was a good buffet!
We have found a tasty new restaurant! Is this... Fri, 18 Apr 2014 22:01:34 EST Retirement is Fattening! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5662544 I am really enjoying my husband's retirement. He is home and doing a lot of deferred maintenance around the house.
We also take a nice long walk every morning that we can. We both are enjoying the walks and we notice that the more we walk the better our stamina. We can now walk longer and farther without getting as tired. I know that is good for us and that as we get more stamina we will be able to walk to even more places.
Some of our favorite places to walk are to places we ... Wed, 2 Apr 2014 10:58:21 EST Reporting on my Feral Cats http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5642415 Today marks a landmark in the life of our feral cats! We have been feeding them for about 6 months now and they spend a lot of time in our yard. They are too wild to really be pets, but they are very enjoyable anyway.
For a long time I have been able to hand feet the younger cat which we call Scruffy. She even lets me pet her, but if I make a sudden move or if there is a loud noise, she takes off like a shot. The other cat which we call Mama Cat because she is Scruffy's mother is muc... Fri, 7 Mar 2014 19:45:36 EST I miss the color! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5640426 I have noticed lately that the color of things that we buy is starting to all look alike. We are considering getting a new car (our current one is 22 years old). The choice in car color is very limited. You can get white, black, silver and bronze. Possibly a red or a black or a soft blue or green, but that is rare. What has happened to all the other colors? You look around and see that the most popular color seems to be white.
Next look at the new houses and shopping centers. Ta... Wed, 5 Mar 2014 12:31:27 EST Busy, busy, busy! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5619639 Sorry that I am so busy lately that I have not had the time to enjoy my spark friends and spark activities. We are finding that retirement comes with it's own set of challenges to our health. It is so easy to eat out when you don't have the time constraints and so hard to turn down the opportunities to meet others for a lunch visit.
My husband retired in mid February and we have been busy with last minute paper work and such. (5 visits to the Social Security Office alone!). We have h... Sun, 9 Feb 2014 17:40:02 EST Tomorrow's the Big Day! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5595907 Yes, tomorrow is my husband's last day at work. He is retiring! It will be a big change in our lives and we are a bit scared, but looking forward to it. One of the things that we are looking forward to is being able to visit our family that is spread into four different states. We have only been able to manage short visits so far and this year we will have plenty of time to visit and really enjoy our family.
The scary part is learning to adjust to being home all day for my husband an... Thu, 16 Jan 2014 12:16:38 EST Many changes going into this new year. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5576689 The new year is always like the beginning of a new chapter in the book of my life. I try to look back on it and reflect a bit on the happenings both good and bad. Hopefully I will learn something from the lessons I have learned.
One thing I have learned this year is that when you don't follow through with your diet and exercise plan it doesn't work. Duh! It doesn't magically earn you the reward of a weight loss that actually following the plan does! I am planning to do a better job o... Tue, 31 Dec 2013 12:49:05 EST Strange Exercise! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5548145 Guess you might say I exercised my mind and my finger playing the Google Logo today. It was a fun one. It was a Dr Who Adventure. It took my 69 minutes and 31 seconds to finish the game successfully! I enjoy the Google Logo and check it almost every day to see if there is a fun thing to do or see.

Does anyone else play the Google Logos? Sat, 23 Nov 2013 01:51:16 EST Seeing a Little Progress http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5547728 I am so happy to see a little progress on the weight loss so far this month. Now if I can just remember to keep at it through the coming weeks. Thanksgiving is always a big over eating day and there will be lots of goodies and temptation. But, the luncheon with my high school friends is coming up the first Saturday in December and I really am hoping to weigh no more this year than I did last year at the same event. It would be nice to weigh even less, but I doubt that will happen.
<... Fri, 22 Nov 2013 12:30:58 EST November is a New Month! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5529223 Today was my monthly weigh in and i am not happy with the results. I gained a pound in October. It was not unexpected because we have been to a lot of parties and I have no resistance to eating all the goodies when they are displayed. It was disappointing as I really would like to be down to 130 by Christmas. But wanting and getting are two different things or I would be down to the weight I was as a teenager without the effort that goes with it.

Well, November is a new month a... Fri, 1 Nov 2013 11:58:40 EST Cutting Calories at a Party! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5528363

I really don't have much will power when it comes to snacking at parties especially when there is chocolate in sight! We have been going to several parties as we are square dancers and the many clubs in the area hold Halloween parties to which we are invited. Most of these are costume parties and we like to participate. We have a variety of costumes of the home made type.

Last night we won a prize ... Thu, 31 Oct 2013 12:49:58 EST Something to appreciate http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5524591 We are heading towards Thanksgiving and I have so many things to be thankful for that I can't even list them all. One thing was called to my attention this weekend by it's absence. Friday morning, just as I was starting breakfast, our electricity went out. We rarely give thought to how lucky we are to just flip a switch and have light or power to cook our meals. I was happy that the electricity was working again when I got home that evening. It had been off for 12 hours. So we reset the... Sun, 27 Oct 2013 11:52:44 EST "My" cats http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5515411 I am enjoying my two feral cats. They are now used to eating on our front porch. They come near at meal time when I shake the food jar--kind of like a dinner bell--but won't eat from the dish until I have gone inside. However, one of them will eat from my hand if I am very still and just sit there and the other will eat from the jar lid within about 2 feet of me. It is amazing what they will do when they are hungry. They are very scaredy cats and will leave rapidly at the slightest diffe... Wed, 16 Oct 2013 18:12:09 EST Something I Enjoy http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5508981 I enjoy taking photos and I do it just for the pleasure of it. I take pictures of things I see around the house, like a lizard in the garden, or an interesting cloud formation, or a pretty flower. I especially like taking pictures at family events and getting unposed pictures of people.

Last weekend we went to the 99th birthday party for the mother of one of my best friends. I have known this woman for over 60 years! She was like a second mother to me during my teenage years. ... Wed, 9 Oct 2013 13:03:41 EST My Favorite way to Relax http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5508159 This is a very naughty thing, but I occasionally take a "sick day" when I am not really sick. It is a day off when I am only sick of doing stuff--a day for me! I take a nice soak in the tub, possibly with bubble bath, and then put on fresh jammies, get myself a good book and a cup of hot chocolate, and then climb under the covers for a relaxing day of reading a good book and not doing anything except what I want! Nice to do once in a while--a real treat! Tue, 8 Oct 2013 16:15:52 EST More on the cats http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5495085 I have the two cats eating on my front porch now. They have successfully moved to my house for meals although for now they still relax next door. The new neighbor has not yet moved in, so we will see how that goes when she does. They are still not friendly, but at least they don't run and hide every time they see me. The younger one will eat from my hand when she is hungry enough, but they are feral and very skittish. Tue, 24 Sep 2013 16:38:01 EST I Had A Great Birthday! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5491453 One of the nicest things about having a birthday is receiving all the cards and phone calls from people. This year I even got some good wishes from my Spark Friends. One of my good friends made me a wonderful chocolate cake with chocolate frosting it was made with sour cream instead of oil. She made it from scratch and it was moist and delicious. She brought it to our round dance class and we shared it with the whole class. I had a small piece and enjoyed every mouthful.
I am happy... Fri, 20 Sep 2013 20:03:54 EST Updated My Page http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5489403 This is my birthday, so I took the time to update my page. I had to add a couple of pounds to my weight tracker to catch it up to where I am right now. The tracker shows I gained a couple of pounds, but it also reflects that I have lost nine pounds and kept it off this past year. I now have a mini goal for myself and that is to be down at 130 by Christmas. It is not where I want to be, but reality has shown me that I lose very slowly or not at all. In fact, I am lucky not to gain weight ... Wed, 18 Sep 2013 14:54:10 EST Progress with "my" cats http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5486701 The two feral cats that live next door and need to move to my house are making a little progress in that direction. I have found one of them sunning herself under my front window. They are both coming to the front yard to be fed as long as nobody is in sight. Today i made great progress with Scruffy! I put out food this morning, but not a lot of it, so they were getting pretty hungry by this evening. I went next door with a big handful of food and sat on the front walkway talking to the ... Sun, 15 Sep 2013 22:55:56 EST I think I now own a cat or two. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5480527 Our next door neighbors had to move. They have been feeding two of the homeless cats in the neighborhood as did the people that lived there before them. So, these cats have felt at home for about 9 years. They are strays and not friendly enough to be picked up and moved and the neighbors were afraid that to move them to their new home which is across a busy street might mean that the cats would try to come back here and get hit by a car. The new lady that lives in the house says she is all... Mon, 9 Sep 2013 11:53:30 EST Happy 14th Anniversary http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5471362 Today we celebrated our 14th anniversary. Hard to believe that it has been 14 years already. The time has just flown by and happily, we would both do it all over again! It is a second marriage for both of us and we both feel we are lucky to have found each other.
We always go out to dinner for our anniversary and we go to Costco for a Polish. It started as a joke, but then became a tradition to go there for our "special events". Well, this year we did an upgrade--we went someplace d... Sat, 31 Aug 2013 01:14:11 EST Not on Facebook! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5464078 I am the mother of ten, plus 2 step children and a niece. Grandmother to 35, and great grandmother to 8. It is amazing how busy this keeps us. We are constantly going to weddings and having guests. I make phone calls and we have a family website, all to try to keep in touch. But letter writing and personal phone calls seem to be a thing of the past as far as many of the kids are concerned.

I have noticed now that "Everyone" seems to be on facebook that I don't get cards or let... Fri, 23 Aug 2013 13:08:41 EST Hanging onto the wagon! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5459938 We went to a great BBQ and Potluck yesterday. Nice to get together with so many of our friends. Main activity was chatting with friends and playing a non traditional game of croquet. (The course went around the whole back yard lawn and included many obsticales such as trees and tree roots.) Highlight was watching our friend (who is in his mid 90s and still square dances) make an almost impossible shot uphill around a tree root, after many other people had struggled with the same one.
... I was just so tired of not having anything tasty! Darn!

Today my weight was up a little, but I am back on the right track and not resenting it and feeling like I am being punished. Well, I knew it before, but this just confirms to me that I am stubborn and will finish what I start even if it is not convenient.
I did all the things on the Mojo Challenge even though I had to rearrange my schedule to do it. Sat, 10 Aug 2013 13:57:52 EST Smoothie! Yum! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5448862 This is the recipe I created a long time ago and I am using it now as part of my "Keep the Mojo Going" Challenge. I have one of these every morning for breakfast using frozen zucchini chunks and a small piece of frozen fruit. You can sneak almost any frozen fruit or veggie into the shake just don't put a lot of a strong tasting veggie in it. I prefer the zucchini as it has almost no flavor of it's own. Fruit has more calories so I just put in a little for flavor. (peach, strawberry, bana... The name Lonny is in honor of our daughter in law's father.
It will be months before I get to see my new grandson as they live in another state but I have his picture already. Wed, 10 Jul 2013 14:14:04 EST Back from Vacation and Repenting! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5415865 Really enjoyed our vacation. We took a month long trip in the Med. Three of the weeks were on a cruise ship. It was wonderful. The food was terrific! Thus my little problem. I gained 5 pounds while I was gone in spite of trying very hard to eat sensibly and to exercise. Did I mention the food on the ship was terrific? And, who can resist the tapas in Madrid? Not I!
I did keep up with the exercise. We walked an average of 11,000 steps in the heat every day we were in port which... Tue, 9 Jul 2013 19:03:07 EST Love my Garden! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5378460 I just finished a delicious egg white omelet filled with onion and zucchini from my garden. It is such a treat to just go out to the garden and pick something that is ripe and make that the centerpiece of my dinner.
I am delighted that the garden is doing so well that I have been able to freeze some of the zucchini already as there is more than I can eat. Boo! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5376745 I weigh in at the beginning of every month. Today was the weigh in. I was not happy with the scale this morning. With ten kids of my own plus 2 from my husband's first marriage and a niece that calls me Mom, Mothers Day is a great day for me. Of all the blessings I have had in my life, being a mother is up at the top of the list. I am thankful for each and every one of our children (including the niece). They are all grown up now and are out on their own, and many have children of their own, but it is still a special feeling when I start getting those phone calls on Mother's Da... I am so thankful for the encouragement I have received from all my friends here on Spark.
I try to have a happy outlook on life and most of the time I am successful. I gained weight this month. A pound and a quarter. Grr! I know I really have been trying and tracking and getting plenty of exercise, so I am not happy about this. The part that has me confused is that my waist and hip measurements have both gone down an inch. Yippee!
So, how does one gain weight and lose inches? I am confused, but happy about the loss of inches.

May is a new month and I have asked my husband f... Wed, 1 May 2013 11:38:15 EST I think I found the pound I lost! Darn! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5299519 I will know in a day or two if the "fun" we had this weekend has done damage to my weight loss.
We went out to a party at a restaurant on Saturday and out to our favorite buffet on Sunday. I can't be trusted at buffets! We used the excuse on Sunday that we had been working really hard in the garden and deserved a break. Then we walked over to the buffet and back ( about 4 miles round trip) to work off any extra calories we may have eaten.
This morning I was up a little on the s... Mon, 25 Mar 2013 12:57:53 EST Lost a pound! Hope not to find it again! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5286582 I am back down to where I should have been at the beginning of the month had I not gained before my weigh-in. It has been a little up and a little down all month so far, but that seems to be normal if you weigh in each day which I do. I only record the weight at the beginning of the month and hope to find a loss over the course of the month.
Today I am weighing in at 131 which is a loss of a pound since the beginning of the month, although I had been there before. I have even seen t... Thu, 14 Mar 2013 13:22:01 EST Disappointing Results http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5273282 After all the effort I have put forth in the month of February, I still gained weight and my measurements were up. I am disappointed, but not in myself. I know that I put forth the effort and a one pound gain is not the end of the world. I am just hoping that the next month report is a better one. I know that weight can vary by more than a pound in a single day, but it sure would be nice to get down below the 130 barrier!

Oh, well, this is March. A new month! A new beginning ... Mon, 4 Mar 2013 20:07:26 EST Big Day Today! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5254245 Working at my niece's Bed and Breakfast is fun, but lots of work, too. I enjoy meeting the guests and talking to them. Yesterday I had a full house. The inn has three bedrooms with bathrooms for guests. All rooms were full last night and all guests left this morning.
I was up at seven and breakfast for the guests was served at nine. Breakfast is a nice meal. Today it was a fruit cup, orange juice, a muffin, sausage, and a Brie stuffed croissant fixed like French toast. Cooking is ... Sun, 17 Feb 2013 23:46:25 EST Good For Me! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5249038 I am feeling good about hitting my goals yesterday. 10159 steps for the day!
I went out for dinner at one of the local diners here in Placerville with one of the neighbor ladies. This place has terrific old fashion milkshakes made with real ice cream, poured into a glass and then topped with whipped cream and a cherry. They even leave you with the metal cup it is made in full of the extra shake.
Good news is that I didn't order that! I had a hamburger and cut it in four pieces... Wed, 13 Feb 2013 11:59:05 EST
