Wed, 25 Dec 2013 08:28:00 EST Free 5Ks http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5503302 We are very fortunate to be a part of Parkruns, an organization that provides timing and reporting for the members. The runs are held early Saturday morning when we don't have a charity race on the same trail, and we are e-mailed our results that evening. Then we go for coffee and breakfast. I can even go on the weekends I work - run and done!

311 312 186 364 Thu, 3 Oct 2013 09:20:04 EST Speaking of racing http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5445508 Last Saturday I got the awesome opportunity to speak to a running group and members of the general public about races and how to earn bling! We checked into the Sheraton downtown where the event was held, then went to have lunch at Gladys Knight's restaurant. We returned to pick up our race packets and conference packets. This was my third type of aqua class I've done there: aqua track I do most but since running class starts tonight on the same days and times, I'll be missing that, aqua zumba is fun and I plan to go this weekend, and the one I did this morning is water works: an invigorating class held in the shallow water which teaches us how to increase range of motion and balance through changes in resistance, intensity and speed. It was so hot by then here in Central Florida that I stopped doing any races. When I started back training in August, I made a goal to finish the Disney Princess Half Marathon in my 55th year. I did not make that goal. I did, however, complete the Women's Half Marathon in November, the St Pete Rock n Roll Half in February, the Orange Blossom Half in March and the Florida Beach Halfathon in March. As I prepared for the event, I could hear it storming outside. I looked at the clock, still two hours before start time. I dressed light on the top with running tights so my legs wouldn't get wet and because I just think the compression holds everything together (my own opinion). I was so glad to see DH get up and get dressed so I didn't have to drive. My running buddy drove up and off we we... I have another half marathon coming up soon and my training is so far behind. Finally, my runner training group starts back up this evening. Getting out there doing it by myself is a challenge to me. I've run every week at least twice but have not gone further than a 10K in the last few weeks. I have no choice but to do a long run and I mean within the next few days.

My running group buddy has agreed to run her first hal... So happy and pleased with my time of a little over 3:08 hours. I started in the last runner's corral and went past so many people. I projected my race at 3:30 but now I have a new time to beat! Actually I never went anywhere, except for Halloween when I started a five day cruise. Just wanted to give a quick update of where I am.

I've lost a few pounds over the last couple months due to changes in my nutrition and exercise. I mean I did not stop to walk at any time. Of course, I believe in the run/walk method and have always used it but today there was just no stopping me. When I got to mile 1, I was so excited, I thought my running coach would be so proud. Then I thought, I can go to 1-1/2 miles.

I keep on going. I think of the weather. It is so nice out. This is giving me energy. As I ran, I thought of the heat and the sun usually draining my energy... I told my dance aerobics instructor about it this morning and he said in the hour we exercised we probably did twice that amount. I went home and did the squats anyway, 25 at a time. My legs should really be strong enough to really succeed in running this season.

My good news: I just paid off my November cruise! It is a 5 day to the Western Carribean and I'm so excited! Tue, 23 Aug 2011 12:38:46 EST So glad to be back running http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4432635 I had my first run in about a month this morning. I had took a running from vacation after some naggiong soreness in one leg but more because of the sun and heat when our running group meets at 6 p.m. I've been taking a fat burning dance aerobics at 7:30 in a pavillion at our waterfront park. Enjoying it so much I go one hour in the evening and add another hour in the mornings when I'm off work.

So I signed up for a 5k race on September 10 and started back training this morning. ... Wed, 17 Aug 2011 12:33:03 EST Back to exercising on purpose http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4387216 Today, I returned to exercise on purpose. Sure I had been doing lots of activities like moving boxes, moving furniture, ripping up carpet, digging holes and planting flowers and trees, a quick walk around the block every now and then. I've also done ten-minute bursts of strength training with bands, weights and lots of leg stretches. I even found a jump rope while moving boxes and plan to use it soon. But, because of an intense pain in the back of one of my thighs I skipped running group and... Tue, 26 Jul 2011 11:30:29 EST Another 5K missed because of a storm yesterday http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4345994 I had an evening 5K scheduled at the gym my running training group meets at. The 5ks are held once a month and this year are separate from the running group. I get there and it's already lightening. A storm is coming. My coach says he's letting us go inside the gym to run on the treadmill, elliptical or some other cardio. He doesn't let us run when it is lightening. But the 5K runners are going to run. Knowing it was going to storm, I elected to go with my running group. Apparently no one e... I actually got up at 5:15 and went out about an hour later to beat the heat. They are not actually scheduled to leave until 7.

This has been a great week for me. I got up early and out the door to work on my cardio by tackling a steep hill. This was about my fourth try and it is getting easier every time.

This afternoon the rain poured down just as I was getting ready for group running. This started at 7:00 a.m. but I started out even earlier since I forgot my sunblock. It was just a 5K practice run with my running group. I did run/walk intervals with a running buddy. It was a nice run, hot of course, and first time I drank everything out my fuel bottles.

Now to enjoy the weekend.... We did a couple of these last fall too. Instead of doing our run that day, we just did the 5K with the registered runners. Tue, 17 May 2011 22:41:40 EST Planned fun weekend turned into ER visit! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4234452 On my Friday blog, I mentioned I had a fun weekend planned watching a triathalon/duathalon/5k race and then hit up a couple health fairs in town this weekend. Well instead, we went out of town to help SIL move. When I got there I thought "wow, three flights of outside stairs and no elevators!" Now, I'm not used to stairs, in my daily life I do not encounter a single stair. Not that I don't want to but I live in a ranch style one story house and I also work at home. Sun, 15 May 2011 17:45:07 EST Runner training group and fun weekend ahead http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4230854 This ends my second week of runner training. This group is so friendly. Yesterday I had some pain in my leg and the coach showed me some stretching exercises to alleviate the pain. I think if I didn't have a coach I would just stop running for a couple weeks. It's been hot, in the 90s every day since Sunday, but I just put on my sunblock and grab my ice water and enjoy the run. We'll pick it up 7 a.m. Sunday morning for our long run.

The bootcamp I considered doing on my days of... It was a charity run for Sarah's Daughter's, a faith-based organization dedicated to the restoration and preservation of marriages, "In it to WIN IT 5K".

Now I've ran a couple 5k races with my training group last year and a virtual 5k through SP "5K your Way" but this was the first official one. I guess I was anxious because the training does not start until next week.

Today I went to sign up for a 5K in my area. I went to both designated places to sign up. I had tried to register online like the advertisement in the paper and postcard said but that only directed me to different fast food places to sign up. Wed, 27 Apr 2011 12:28:31 EST My running training program starts again next week. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4185572 Next week I start a 5K/10K runner training program at my local wellness center. I'm excited to be starting again training with a group of runners. I took this training last year in the fall but dropped out at about 13/16 weeks because the time changed and a couple times I was out there around 7 p.m. in the dark by myself. Later I ran into another slower runner from the group and she said she dropped out for the same reason. That won't be a problem this summer. We'll only have heat
<e... This is to make sure I have no excuse to miss the tax deadline. Of course, it's 4 p.m. on the 12th and I still haven't started taxes yet (LOL).

I got up my usual early time with intent of getting dressed and out walking just as it got light outside. This would give me plenty of time to get in an hour walk/run and maybe meet the exercise group at the beachfront. Instead I moved slower than I planned but did get coffee and a bite to eat. ... Mon, 21 Mar 2011 17:31:32 EST Beat my step and mileage records http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4058149 Today is my day off. I woke up determined to beat my recorded step record of 15,498. It's been the same since October 31 when I was with my running group. Of course, working at home doesn't help because, other than the weekend or my almost daily 30 minute treadmill runs, I don't get a lot of mileage in.

As soon as I got dressed and a bit of fuel for energy, I realized it was about to rain. Hard rain. I had breakfast and coffee and managed to get out three hours later. No sun yet... Tue, 1 Mar 2011 16:48:16 EST Have I lost my music? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4046741 I just love those little pockets on athletic bottoms that have space for your MP3 players or keys or iPods.

So I mostly use my iPod as a pedometer to track my steps. Some days I leave it in my pocket all day. Occasionally I will use it, along with the pod in my Nike+ shoes, to track my runs.

I just pulled my clothes out of the dryer and found my iPod, still hot, inside my little pocket!

So I hit the button, nothing. Would you plug it up when it cools down? Fri, 25 Feb 2011 10:57:49 EST Blueberries, where have you been all my life? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4040767 Along with several other fruits, I have found a love for blueberries this year. I'm eating them right now in my whole grain cereal. They are a little soft, I'm thinking that's because I froze them? I'm still learning, but I think I read somewhere you don't freeze blueberries. If you know, let me know.

I was in the home improvement store yesterday and looked at the blueberry plant/bush/tree --- what do you call it? My first thought - it won't live in my yard. As I'm savoriing thes... It worked but it was so stiff I would get a huffing puffing workout in a couple minutes.
198

I figured this was a result of letting it sit for a couple years outside on a screened room.

Then I had stopped using it after I joined the running group. Sun, 30 Jan 2011 17:17:19 EST No hard feeling towards mom's negativity. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3913812 I was recently having a conversation with my mom who lives next door to me. I mentioned I would be retiring eventually and was considering studying fitness and nutrition, particularly group fitness training. Getting healthy is a very tricky subject to discuss with some people, my mom is one. She quickly replied "Maybe you are too old!". I was not surprised by this negative response as I have come to expect that from her. Mom is very strong and have worked her garden for hours some days, a... Tue, 11 Jan 2011 12:02:48 EST
