I've spoken in the past about my mom's endevour to leave South Africa and emigrate to the UK. She had to try and sell her house in a difficult market and still had to have another shoulder replacement operation.
The operation was delayed for months because they had to put stents into her arteries which meant she was on the drug plavix so it wasn't safe to operate. Well after months of pain waiting for the operation they finally operated at the beginning of December. About a month of two prior to that she had finally managed to sell the house for a decent price. It was like everything was suddenly falling into place. She remained in South Africa for 6 weeks to recover from the operation and finally left for the UK for good last weekend.
Yesterday was her birthday and I spoke to her on the phone again to wish her a happy one. She is staying with my brother in Wales at the moment until she is able to buy her own place. She sounded so happy and more upbeat than I have heard in a long time. She had just been out shopping for a winter coat. It's one of the first things us ex-South Africans have to do LOL because none of our clothes are made for really cold weather.
Just one week away and the fact that she finally feels safe again seems to have drained all the stress of the last 18 months from her. I am so pleased she is finally somewhere safe and of course it is so much closer for me to visit than the arduous flights from the USA to South Africa.
Woo hoo way to go mom!
