EAT! COME ON EVERYONE IS DOING IT!

Friday, February 01, 2008

EAT! EAT! EAT! Is that all we do here at work? Today is the employee of the quarter celebration, there is yellow cake with whipped cream icing and piping hot pizza of several varieties. Today was also our Human Resources Directors birthday, she always buys each of us a cake on our birthday so I bought her one this morning. I knew she wasn't exactly crazy about chocolate but the only other cakes they had were carrot cake with wonder, sinful, delicious cream cheese icing, I could not buy that, after refusing cheesecake yesterday, carrot cake today would have been my undoing! So I bought the chocolate one and just didn't go to the morning meeting where it was consumed. And, as if that was not bad enough, there is a new Doctor visiting our facility so we set up a meet and greet for him in the conference room with sandwiches, chips, more cake and drinks! Thatís it! Iím filing a discrimination suit against this company! They are trying to keep me fat! But no fear, Iím staying strong, sitting in my office eating weight smart oatmeal. YummyÖÖ.NOT WHEN COMPARED TO WHAT'S OUT THERE BEYOND MY OFFICE DOOR!

I can completely relate. All of our "employee appreciation" activities somehow center around food....chocolate fountains, bagel breakfasts, pizza lunches, potlucks, etc. I try not to participate, but then I get looks like I've got twelve heads or I'm not a team player. I work for a health insurance company so one would think we would try to live by our mission statement - to PREVENT disease whenever possible. I always try to advocate for more non food related activities whenever possible (walk a thons, volunteer activities, bringing in flowers for a new employee instead of baked goods, etc) and surprisingly things are beginning to turn around. I've just had to shout a little louder than the donuts sitting in the breakroom. :) Congrats on your success so far. ~Vickie

Wow! I admire your willpower!! Good job! I have the same problem at work, a colleague of mine sells junk food (chips, pops, desserts) for the Social Committee, and I pass in front it like 10 times a day... Stay strong! Good luck on your journey!
