My Lung Transplant

Monday, January 21, 2008

Well, I'm going to update you about my Lung Transplant. I am on the waiting list but am on hold because I need to get Medicare Part D to help cover the cost of the drugs I will have to take the rest of my life. These drugs cost about 7,000.00 a month without insurance.
Well, You can only apply between November 15th to Dec 31st. Well, I did sent my application in to an insurances company. they said it would take effect after the first of the year. Well, I never did hear anything from them so I called. The lady said that they had no record of me. Now I am really concerned that if they didn't receive my application that it is out there floating around and my SS# is in there. So Sunday I called the insurance company back and I told the lady why I was concerned. She asked my what plan did you want, so I told her and she said that is not available in your state. Now I would have thought that they would have called me and told me this and offer me another plan. NOPE! They dropped the ball.
So here I am, probably going to have to wait till this Nov and try again. But I did call another insurance company and I explained everything to her and she said you can try to apply but Medicare will probably say No because of being out of the time frame. So I gave her all the info over the phone, she is going to forward it on to Medicare and what all happened with the other company.
She said I will hear one way or the other in about 2 weeks...Well, I emailed my Governor, and our Senator. I just think this is so unfair.
I'm not going to hold my breathe but I am hoping Medicare will go in my favor and let me have the insurance now.
So that is the extent of my weekend..I am very upset and depressed because I am so looking forward to this Lung Transplant.

I will be writing another Blog when I hear what happens.

Thank you all.
Love Cheryl

This is what happens when you don't have a Universal Health Care Plan in place. That is one of my major deciding factors in the upcoming Presidential Elections. This is one of the wealthiest countries in the world and look at how we treat our people. Insurance companies looking to make a buck while lives are depending on them. Cheryl, I hope you get what you need NOW. Not later. My love to you and yours.

Holy cow, that is the last thing someone needs when they are waiting for such important and probably scary surgery. My Mom has emphesyma but luckily is still just using puffers. I can hear her breathing getting worse so don't know how much longer she can hold off before going on oxygen.
You have a great start on your weight loss! It is good that you have a treadmill to use.

I found your page thru a posting you made about quitting due to lack of support from your spouse. I haven't even read that post yet because I wanted to come and check out your page. My husband isn't supportive either! I have finally decided I have to do this one way or the other and can't put it off any longer. It is definitely harder without support at home but I will have to just go it alone. That is why I come here, because of the great support.

Good luck in your ordeal and I hope the gov't or someone wakes up and gives you the medical help you need and pronto!

I am sorry to hear about your difficulties with this. Hang in there. You'll get the right person on the phone who can help to guide you through this, but you may have to go through a lot of people in order to find that one. It is frustrating to hear that this should even be an issue for you. I hope that your senator or governor's office can help. Is there a hospital representative who has been working with you on the transplant, they may have more info. You and your family are in my prayers. Don't give up!
