Throughout my 'millwork past I have tended to start slow and build to fast, sometimes crescendo finish. Recently I read (was it one of SUNLUVIN's great posts at the All Health Professionals SparkTeam?) how one gets more cardio burn for the buck when you pour on the steam early in your workout...gets the heart revved up for a longer period of time.
Figures, I would have it reversed...lol!
This morning the first song that chanced on my playlist happened to be The Who: Live At Leeds version of My Generation. Well! This is my opportunity to rock out first thing on my treadmill! I kick it right up to a 4.5 mph jog, which has been the fastest I've gone jogging for a sustained time. After a while in the song I figure it must be near the end...what the heck, let's kick it up to 5.0...I can handle that for a few minutes!
Turns out, this version of My Generation happens to be 15 minutes long...waaaay longer than I had thought, and I was only half-way through the song!
Challenge of the day taken! I probably ended up doing 5.0 for 5 to 7 minutes...! My mp3 player then took pity on this poor, sweat-soaked soul and served up a slower bossa nova by Antonio Carlos Jobim next...whew! I kept the pace for the remainder of my time to 4.0 with a nod to my old habits at the end picked it back up to 5.0 for the last couple of minutes.
Feels great starting my day with a bang!
